Ramayana Part 1 is gearing up to become one of the biggest releases of 2026. Starring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead, the film is directed by Nitesh Tiwari, who, during a special screening and interaction in New York City, revealed why the actor was his only choice to play Lord Ram.

Why Tiwari chose Kapoor

Appearing at the event alongside Kapoor and producer Namit Malhotra, the filmmaker described Lord Ram as a deeply nuanced character who required inner strength, and physical presence. "Lord Ram was a man of few words. His love was unbound. His pain could not be seen but it could be felt. His courage needed a lot of physicality," he said, adding that "this role was really demanding and so we felt that there was nobody better than Ranbir Kapoor to portray all these things and manage the expectations of a billion people."

Also Read: Ramayana teaser runtime revealed; Ranbir Kapoor unveil Rama glimpse at LA event

Not modernising Ramayana

The director, when asked about whether the film attempts to modernise the ancient epic, clarified, saying, "I would not say that we made a conscious effort to make it into a modern tale or something."

He emphasised that the story’s core values are timeless. Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana has been creating a buzz since its announcement. The director has recently opened up about why he chose Ranbir Kapoor to play Lord Ram. Read on to know more.

Why Tiwari chose Kapoor Appearing at the event alongside Kapoor and producer Namit Malhotra, the filmmaker described Lord Ram as a deeply nuanced character who required inner strength, and physical presence. "Lord Ram was a man of few words. His love was unbound. His pain could not be seen but it could be felt. His courage needed a lot of physicality," he said, adding that "this role was really demanding and so we felt that there was nobody better than Ranbir Kapoor to portray all these things and manage the expectations of a billion people." He emphasised that the story’s core values are timeless. "The essence of Ramayana lies in the values which it holds. Those values are universal and timeless. I do not need to modernise it anyway. What has happened is the world has forgotten those values; it's time we remind them and maybe a film like this will make the world a better place," he added. Meghna Gulzar’s Raazi, featuring Alia Bhatt, is one of the best spy thriller movies made in India. Based on Harinder Sikka’s best-selling book, ‘’Calling Sehmat,'' the movie, released in 2018, not only impressed viewers but also critics. The cast also features Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukerji, Arshad Warsi, and Raghav Juyal in key roles.

The film was announced on November 2 last year and is said to revolve around a seasoned assassin who mentors a young protégé.

King is expected to hit theatres on December 24, 2026.

King, starring Shah Rukh Khan, has recently seen a major change in the shooting schedule as a Dubai sequence has reportedly been scrapped amid the ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia.

Shah Rukh Khan's much-anticipated project King has hit a major roadblock as the action drama's international shooting schedule in Dubai has reportedly been scrapped amid the ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia. Helmed by Siddharth Anand, the makers had planned to shoot a desert action sequence in Dubai starting April 9. However, now, the team is prioritizing safety. "The team had procured the necessary permissions to shoot in the emirate. It was supposed to be a week-long schedule from April 9," a source said, as quoted by Mid-day. "But given the dynamic situation in the region, the makers decided not to take any risk with the cast and crew’s safety." "They’ve gone all out to match the scale that Siddharth envisioned for the set-piece. In fact, this gives them more control over action beats and lighting. The sequence begins with a chase, resulting in an intense combat," the source further added. According to reports, the scene will now be shot in Vile Parle, Mumbai, and the makers are recreating the elaborate desert landscape within a studio setup. The sequence is said to include a chase that will transition into a combat scene. Also Read: Shah Rukh Khan's King to feature large-scale action sequence; 10 Russian fighters join shoot
