Bade Miyan Chote Miyan Review: Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff's film is a no-brainer actioner

The most brief description of Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff's Bade Miyan Chote Miyan is that it's just a copy, paste, and edit of all the typical Bollywood action movies that we have seen in the recent past. So, it's a no-brainer movie with the ample Rohit Shetty's type of action. Ali Abbas Zafar's Bade Miyan Chote Miyan only takes thename of the 1998 movie starring Amitabh Bachchan and Govinda but keeps its David Dhawanesque humour behind, sadly.
After watching Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, I had one question:How on earth did this movie geta green light? Coming from a big production house, and starring Bollywood A-listers, the movie has all the obvious things that one can imagine. In the name of mass entertainer, Zafar has again served an old movie with the costliest garnishing ever.
What's the story? NOTHING
India is facing the biggest threat, we are told, from amasked psycho (Prithviraj), whohas stolen the most important package and is threatening Indian army officers of dire consequences. It's astate pf emergency, and the two senior Indian army officers Captain Rajiv (Tiger Shroff) and Captain Firoz (Akshay Kumar), who together make the best team, are called back to duty in order tosave their country. Previously, both Rajiv and Firoz had been exempted from the army for not following their boss's orders. However, they are back to save the package- akey to Karan Kavach, the transparent safety wall that protects the country from an enemyattack. The two heroes with their sidekicks: Captain Misha (Manushi Chillar), and tech-savvy Pam (Alaya F), get on a mission to save the country from starting a war with Pakistan and China and save India.

Written by Suraj Gianani and Ali Abbas Zafar, BMCM is an action snoozefest. With no proper story in place, the makers have put their entire focus on the action. After the first 20 minutes of silence, there is only action, bombarding, and car chasing on the screen. Nothing else.
To match it up with the current trend, the makers have incorporated Artificial intelligence (AI) in the movie. And, how it could be a dangerous weapon.While writing the makers may have thought that AImayaddthe wow factor, but at the execution level it did not land well. By telling the stories in flashbacks, and adding as many twists and turns, the movie plot fails to grab your attention.
Over-the-top
The biggest drawback of this movie is how exaggeratedly everything is presented. From the character presentation to even the set setting, everything felt staged and fake.
Malayalam star Prithviraj plays agenius turned psychopath out to take revenge. With a half-burned face, mask, long black coat, red eyes and long hair, makers have tried to make his character appear as the devil. But, in the entire movie, his character is so poorly written that itfailed to create thatfear.
The first half of the movie was fine with decent, action and humour. But, in the second half, the movie kind of gets slow with the addition of unnecessary elements, and an exaggerated plot that didn't sit well with the overall vibe of the movie.
What works?
Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff are the only good things about the movie.I was genuinely curious to know what made the two actors sign this movie? The characters they play is cringe but despite terribly written parts they play it earnestly. Their joyous chemistry on the screen was enjoyable in some parts, as theytryto fill up the loopholes withhumour wherever possible. Akshay's acting and action is on time and Tiger surprisingly complements Akshay's comic timing well.
Cinematographer Marcin Laskawiec deserves all the kudos for making this jingoism-filled movie visually grand.The action sequences and the beautiful landscapes of Scotland, London, and Jordan are captured well.
How are the ladies in the movie?
The film's leading ladies Manushi Chillar and Alaya F have got decent screen presence. But, they are just the aid to theheroes only adding the glamour quotient to the actioner.
Final verdict
With no story in place, the makers have tried to put all their focus on the action, where every second frame is either a gun firing or a helicopter crashing. After one point, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan will surely bore you and give you a headache.
