Bollywood is gearing up to release two big-budget films- Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Maidaan- this Eid. The films- headlined by A-list Bollywood stars- were set to clash at the box office on April 10. However, the makers of both films have pushed the release date by a day.
Now, both Bade Miyan and Chote Miyan and Maidaan will be released on April 11 and Maidaan will have paid previews available on April 10 from 6 pm onwards.
Maidaan features Ajay Devgn and is a period drama by Amit Sharma, while Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff team up for the first time for Ali Abbas Zafar's action-comedy Bade Miyan Chote Miyan.
On Monday, the lead actors of the two films took to Instagram to announce the change in release date.
First Devgn shared a new poster of Maidaan on Instagram and wrote, "Mark your calendars! #Maidaan release across cinemas in India on 10th April, with special previews starting 6 pm onwards. Full-scale release to follow on the Eid holiday on 11th April. Reserve your seats now! (Link in bio)."
At the time of Devgn's post, many speculated that the move was to avoid a box office clash of the two films.
Hours later, Akshay Kumar took to his Instagram page and shared a video of him and Tiger Shroff announcing the change in the release date of their film. "Bade aur Chote aur poori Bade Miyan Chote Miyan ki team ki taraf se aap sab ko advance mein Eid Mubarak. Dekhiye #BadeMiyanChoteMiyan on Eid with your entire family, now releasing on 11th April only in cinemas.”
The date change was announced as Eid will be celebrated in India on April 11 - which is typically an off day for most people across the country.
Not just a theatrical release, but Bollywood also has Imtiaz Ali's next Chamkila releasing this weekend on OTT. The film which stars Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra in the lead is set to release on Netflix on April 12.
