Anushka Sharma on marrying Virat Kohli at 29: Did it because I was in love

Till a few years back, actresses marrying at the peak of their careers was considered suicidal. But with a new crop of stars like Anushka Sharma, Deepika Padukone, Sonam Kapoor tying the knot at the peak of their career, the myth seems to have been broken. 

In an interview with a film magazine, Anushka questioned why women need to worry about their careers while getting married while men never do. The actress opened up about getting married at 29 to cricketer Virat Kohli and said, "Our audience is way more evolved than our industry is. Audiences are just interested in seeing actors on screen. They don’t care about your personal lives, whether you’re married or whether you’re a mother. We need to get out of this headspace. I got married at 29, supposedly young for an actress. But I did it because I was in love. And I am in love. Marriage was a natural progression,” she said. 

The actress tied the knot with the cricketer in November 2017 in a secret ceremony in Italy.  

Anushka added that Virat's honesty drew her closer to him. "His honesty is something I deeply value. I’m an honest person and have suffered on account of that. He’s brutally honest too. I’m so happy that I met someone like him because we both lead our lives with complete honesty. It’s so transparent and clean. I have a life partner with whom nothing is pretentious. Everything is real. Also, the fact that we both support each other. He’s someone, who’s constantly trying to get better professionally and as an individual. I’m also like that. We don’t take ourselves so seriously. We’re similar as people. That’s why we get along," the actress revealed. 

Ever since their wedding, the couple has been quite active on social media in terms of sharing photos of each other. 

On the work front, Anushka has not announced any new film since her last release 'Zero' in December 2018. The actress though will be producing few series on two prominent OTT platforms.
