Anne Hathaway is officially heading back to Genovia! The 41-year-old actress shared her excitement on Instagram on Friday after news broke that The Princess Diaries 3 is happening. Director Adele Lim confirmed to Variety that the third movie is in the works.

Hathaway posted a fun video on Instagram, where she held up one finger and said, “One,” followed by a clip from the first movie of her character, Mia Thermopolis, finding out she’s the Princess of Genovia and saying, “Shut up!” She then raised two fingers and showed a scene of Julie Andrews, who played Mia’s grandmother, also saying, “Shut up!” Finally, Hathaway held up three fingers, said “Three,” and the video ended with the song “Miracles Happen (When You Believe)” from the first film.

Hathaway captioned the video, “Miracles happen. Back to Genovia with @adeleblim @disney @somewherepictures. The fairy tale continues.”

Fans and celebrities quickly showed their excitement in the comments. Kelly Clarkson, who had a song on the second movie’s soundtrack, wrote, “Already seated queen.” Another fan commented, “THE QUEEN OF GENOVIA HAS CONFIRMED SHE WILL RETURN,” and a third added, “I’m seated. Quite frankly, I’ve never been more seated!!!”

Director Adele Lim, who worked on Crazy Rich Asians, said she’s excited to direct the new movie. “As a big fan of the original Princess Diaries, I’m so happy to help bring the third movie to life,” Lim told Variety.

The first two movies, released in 2001 and 2004, were directed by Garry Marshall, who passed away in 2016.

In March, Julie Andrews, who played Queen Clarisse, told TODAY.com that she isn’t sure if she’ll return, but she’d be happy if another movie happens.

"It’s been a long time since the first two movies, and sometimes it’s best to leave a good thing alone. But I’d love to do it," she said.

Hathaway previously told PEOPLE in January 2023 that she was thrilled to see how excited fans were for a third movie but reminded everyone that making movies takes time.
