ZIM vs IND, 3rd T20I: Shubman Gill, Washington Sundar star as India take 2-1 lead in five-match series

Shubman Gill starred with the bat as India beat Zimbabwe by 23 runs in the third T20I on Wednesday (Jul 10) to take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. Gill top scored with 66 off 49 while Ruturaj Gaikwad hit 49 off 28 as India finished at 182/4 in 20 overs.

Chasing 183, Zimbabwe had a poor start, losing three wickets for 37 runs in the powerplay. Washington Sundar then took two wickets in the seventh over to bring the hosts to their knees at 5/39.

Dion Myers (65 not out) and Clive Madande (37) then added 77 runs for the sixth wicket but it was too little too late. Sundar broke the partnership and finished with the figures of 3/15 in four overs and won the Player of the Match award.

"Was a crucial match for us and the way we started with batting and bowling, it was remarkable," said skipper Gill after the match.

Upon being asked if it was disappointing to not score 200, Gill said: "Did look like that, but the wicket was a bit double paced, the odd ball was gripping and it was not easy to hit the length ball. We just wanted to keep hitting the length with the ball as well."

Zimbabwe skipper Sikandar Raza said: "We gave away 20 runs extra. We still have problems at the top, but we are backing the boys. I know they are trying and once they do, we will come good again. We have tried 15 different [opening] partners in a year and a half. There is a lot of cricket going in the country. We are trying to do everything. It is time we players including me take the responsibility."

The fourth match of the series will be played on Saturday, July 13.
