2nd T20I: Former India batter hails Ruturaj Gaikwad after impressive 58 vs Ireland.

Former India cricketer Subramaniam Badrinath is not happy with Ruturaj Gaikwad's snub from the upcoming white-ball tour of Sri Lanka. Badrinath also called out Rinku Singh's omission from the ODI squad of the tour as well.

“You need a bad guy image when the likes of Rinku Singh, Ruturaj Gaikwad and others are not picked. You need to be in a relationship with a Bollywood actresses, have a good manager and tattoos,” Badrinath said in a chat with Cric Debate.

It is to be noted that Gaikwad, who was part of India's T20I tour of Zimbabwe, which concluded with a 4-1 win for India, scored 133 runs in three innings of four matches he played. He scored those runs at an average of 66 and a strike rate of 158.

While Gaikwad has been dropped, Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag were able to retain their place in the squad from Zimbabwe tour. With Suryakumar Yadav coming back and as skipper, it's a first full-strength new-look India squad after the T20 World Cup 2024 glory.

Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja announced retirement after the T20 World Cup, prompting the selectors to make some changes.

Rinku, on the other hand, has retained his place in the shortest format but wasn't able to make the cut in ODI squad. Both Rohit and Virat will be playing the ODI leg as India gear up for the Champions Trophy 2025.

India's tour of Sri Lanka will also be new head coach Gautam Gambhir's first assignment after he took over from Rahul Dravid post T20 World Cup.

India will play three ODI and T20Is on the tour which starts from July 27 with a T20I. After the 20-ver games get over on July 30, the three ODIs will be played on August 2, 4 and 7.
