Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) star batter Nitish Reddy landed in trouble after a clip of his went viral, where many criticised him for taking a dig at legendary Indian cricketer MS Dhoni's technique. In a recent interaction, Reddy spoke about Dhoni and stated that while Dhoni has talent, he lacks 'technique'. This wasn't well received by Dhoni's ardent fans and many Chennai Super Kings (CSK) supporters also slammed Reddy for pointing fingers at the former Indian captain-keeper. Nonetheless, Reddy has now issued a clarification and schooled one and all to not 'spread negativity' without knowing what he exactly said.
In a viral video, Reddy said, "Dhoni has talent, in the sense that.... talent is there but the technique is not there. Dhoni doesn't have Virat Kohli's range of techniques." Now, the talented SRH batter -- who made heads turn in IPL 2024 with 303 runs and 13 wickets for runners-up SRH -- has defended his statement, saying the question was about skill or mindset and he chose Dhoni for his mindset, not technique.
Reddy wrote on his Instagram story, "I've always been a huge admirer of Mahi bhai. The question was about skill or mindset, which is the most important factor. I chose mindset, taking Dhoni bhai's example. I believe mindset is the most crucial factor in determining success."
The 21-year-old, who won the Emerging Player of the Year in IPL 2024, added, "What I said in my previous interview was taken out of context, with few people cropping out the video. Let's not spread negativity without hearing the full story. Only Love, NKR."
Reddy even added a video of his conversation with Telugu actor Kartikeya Gummakonda, wherein he praised Dhoni's strength and gameplay. SRH batter had stated, "MS Dhoni's batting techniques is not at par with Virat Kohli, but he is a legend because he knows his strengths and game play. That's why he became a champion."
From Reddy's above statement, it is clear that the youngster was lauding Dhoni for knowing his game strengths and succeeding, despite not having a compact technique like Virat Kohli, etc. During Dhoni's illustrious career, many former cricketers and experts pointed out that he has an unorthodox technique, however, often praised the keeper-batter for backing his strengths and finding ways to succeed at the highest level. Notably, he ended his international career with over 17,000 runs.
