"It was sudden. I thought it was an earthquake, so I threw myself to the ground and covered my head," Enrique Paulino, Perez's manager, told reporters.
"One of our saxophonists is dead, we tried to get to the area where Rubby was but there was too much debris there," he said.
Perez's daughter Zulinka told reporters she had managed to escape after the roof collapsed, but he did not.
After many desperate hours without news, Zulinka later said she had confirmation that her father was "alive," though injured and still trapped in the debris.
Local media said there were between 500 and 1,000 people in the club when disaster struck.
Among the dead was the governor of the Monte Cristi municipality, Nelsy Cruz, who succumbed to her injuries in hospital, according to President Luis Abinader.
"Forty-four dead according to preliminary data so far. We continue to work," Juan Manuel Mendez, director of the Emergency Operations Center (COE), told journalists several hours into the operation.
He said the number of injured exceeded 100.
"As long as there is hope for life, all authorities will be working to recover or rescue these people," said Mendez.

Iris Pena, a woman who had attended the show, told SIN television how she escaped with her son.
"At one point, dirt started falling like dust into the drink on the table. I asked the security officers... whether the ground had shaken," she said.
"A stone fell and cracked the table where we were, and we got out," Pena recounted. "The impact was so strong, as if it had been a tsunami or an earthquake."
Dozens of family members flocked to hospitals for news.&nbsp;
"We are desperate," Regina del Rosa, whose sister was at the concert, told the Dominican channel SIN. "They are not giving us news, they are not telling us anything."
At the scene, meanwhile, helicopter images revealed a large hole where the club's roof once was. A construction crane was helping lift some of the heavier rubble as men in hard hats dug through the debris.
The authorities have issued a call for Dominicans to donate blood.&nbsp;
"We are rescuing all the people we can save alive and recovering those bodies we find along the way. But we have focused on people we can rescue alive because we hear them asking for help," Mendez said.

Zelensky said he had instructed Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha to urgently contact Chinese officials for an explanation. &ldquo;I have instructed the foreign minister of Ukraine to immediately contact Beijing and find out how China is going to respond to this,&rdquo; he said.

According to Zelensky, there is evidence that the involvement of Chinese nationals is not limited to the two men captured. "We have information suggesting that there are many more Chinese citizens in the occupier's units than just these two. We are currently verifying all the facts&mdash;intelligence, the Security Service of Ukraine, and the relevant units of the Armed Forces are working on it," he said.
"Russia's involvement of China, along with other countries, whether directly or indirectly, in this war in Europe is a clear signal that Putin intends to do anything but end the war. He is looking for ways to continue fighting. This definitely requires a response," he added.

"We are fighting on issues faced by the middle class, who have been demanding better infrastructure and sports facilities, affordable housing and work opportunities for all," he said.&nbsp;
"The country needs immigrants, but there must be a balance. We hope to restore it with the right policies. We have a voice now."

The company is rolling out the same system of teen accounts that was introduced on Instagram last year to Facebook and Messenger. These teen accounts automatically apply stricter safety settings for under-18 users. Parents can set daily time limits, restrict usage at certain hours, and view who their child is messaging.
In the new update, users under 16 will need parental consent to make any changes to these default settings. Those aged 16 and 17 will also have the features turned on by default but will be allowed to adjust them on their own.
The updated features will first be introduced in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia.
Meta said that more than 90% of 13- to 15-year-olds using Instagram have kept the restrictions on, and around 54 million teens worldwide are currently using the teen account system.

Poseidon, reportedly in production by Rubin Design Bureau, is also known by its NATO designation Kanyon and previously known by the Russian codename Status-6 (Russian: Статус-6). <h2>What happened in 2015?&nbsp;</h2>
On 10 November 2015, the Kremlin admitted that Russian television accidentally showed secret plans for a nuclear torpedo system on air.&nbsp;
Two Kremlin-controlled channels, NTV and Channel One, showed a military official looking at a confidential document containing drawings and details of a weapons system called Status-6. But the West believes that it was intentional.&nbsp;
The document, which was clearly visible in the footage, showed that the nuclear torpedoes, to be fired by submarines, would create "zones of extensive radioactive contamination making them unsuitable for military or economic activity for a long period".&nbsp;

 Other countries where executions increased were Egypt (from eight in 2023 to 13 last year); Singapore (from five to nine); and Yemen, where the count more than doubled from 15 to 38. Yemen was also among the top five countries responsible for executions. "We were prepared for the eruption. The families within the 4 to 6 kilometres were already evacuated during the previous eruption last December," John De Asis, a rescue official in Negros Occidental province's La Castellana municipality, told AFP.&nbsp;
"Right now we are just monitoring which villages will be affected by the ashfall," De Asis said, further adding that they were recommending "the cancellation of classes and work in the municipality".&nbsp;

PHIVOLCS shared a stunning timelapse video of the volcano. It also released thermal camera footage which showed pyroclastic density currents, which are fast-moving flows of hot gas and volcanic material. The volcanic materials were moving down the southern slopes of the volcano.&nbsp;
