The assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump shocked the world last week. New information and clips from Pennsylvania are being shared as the investigation into the matter progresses.
The video allegedly shows Thomas Matthew Crooks, the perpetrator behind the shooting walking around suspiciously before firing shots at a Republican Presidential candidate.
This video comes after a new report revealed that Crooks was seen using a rangefinder shortly before the shooting, according to a local law enforcement officer who spoke to CBS News.
A sniper from a local tactical team, deployed to support the Secret Service at the Pennsylvania rally, saw Crooks through their scope. The sniper was stationed inside the building from the roof of which Crooks later fired shots, alongside two other snipers.
The Secret Service is facing severe criticism for its failure to protect Donald Trump, prompting calls for Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle to step down. Cheatle defended the agency, citing that guards weren't stationed on the slanted roof. Crooks was shot by Secret Service snipers after injuring Trump, and two others, and fatally shooting firefighter Corey Comperatore.
Reacting to the video, one user wrote, “He should have been detained just for having a rangefinder in close proximity to the President and been questioned. Why would anyone have a device like that? How did he even get it inside the area?”
“At some point, when multiple massive unprecedented security failures after security failures occur back to back - people get understandably suspicious. The complete inability for a reasonable explanation from the Secret Service fans the flames of suspicion even more,” wrote another.
“It is a miracle Donald Trump is alive today,” a third said.
“How do you not see a weird shady dude walking around the buildings, scoping out where to place that ladder, while looking for the perfect rooftop and all in your view? If this doesn’t stink to high heavens of the people who want Trump gone, then you’re far too gone to be saved,” wrote a fourth.
“The incompetence of this entire operation has surpassed epic proportions and the Director has not been fired. This leads to so many more questions,”commented another user.
