A passenger train derailed on Monday in southern Russia
As many as 140 people were injured after a passenger train derailed in Russia's Volgograd region on Monday (Jul 28),the country’s state-owned railway company said.
According toreports, the train, travelling at 65 kmph, collided with a truck that drove into a railroad crossing at 12:35 local time. Nine passenger cars were derailed as authorities attempted to get a clear picture of the impact of the accident.
The train was travelling from Kazan inTatarstan to Adler on the Black Sea when the accident took place near theKotelnikovo station about 1,200 km (750 miles) south of Moscow.
The emergency ministry had already pressed paramedics on the scene, adding that as many as 342 emergency workers were involved.

"About 140 people received cuts and bruises," Russian Railways said, adding that 15 people, including three children, had been taken to hospital for treatment.
The driver of the truck was reportedly thrown about 15 metres (50 feet) by the impact. He was in grave condition, according to the Mash Telegram channel, which published a video showing the battered remains of the cabin of the truck and a man who it said was the driver with blood on his face.
