iMac turns 20 today, take a look at its first-ever launch in 1998

Exactly 20 years ago today Steve Jobs launched the original Bondi Blue iMac and from thereon out Apple has only escalated.

On May 6, 1998, Apple's first-generation iMac computer paved way for advanced computing technologies as we know today. It featured a 15-inch CRT screen, a meager 4GB hard drive.

Featuring the all-in-one design with a translucent blue shell, it came with a number of key features, such as being the first computer to rely solely upon USB ports and come without a floppy disk drive.

The company's first two home computers, the Apple II and the Mac, were falling out of favor, and Apple was losing serious ground to its competitors.

But then, in 1997, co-founder Steve Jobs returned to the company as CEO. Less than a year later, he introducediMac.

Also,iMac was the first product that was introduced with letter 'i' which has now become its signature with the ipad's and iPhone's.

In celebration of iMac's 20th anniversary, Tim Cook posted the video of the desktop's launch from 1998.

The iMac was shipped in August 1998 and eventually came up with more colours because of its huge success.

Despite the entry-level specifications, as compared to the computers today, the iMac was responsible for bringing Apple back into the business after years of business blunders, Engadget has reported.
