The asteroid will be passing by the Earth at a distance of about 64,000 kilometres from the Earth -- less than one-fifth the distance of Earth to the Moon.

Experts estimate 2018 CB to be larger than the asteroid that entered the atmosphere over Chelyabinsk, Russia in 2013.

Such asteroids do not usually come this close to our planet.

2018 CB was discovered recently on February 4 at the NASA-funded Catalina Sky Survey (CSS) in Arizona. Another asteroid discovered the same day as 2018 CB passed by the Earth on Tuesday.
