Voters in the United States headed to primariesand some local elections on Tuesday (May 21) in Oregon, Georgia, Kentucky and Idaho.A number of closely watched House contests ended on expected lines with Democratic Party's Joe Biden and Republican Donald Trump sailing to victory in the respective party primaries in Kentucky and Oregon.
In California, Republican Vince Fong was elected to replace Speaker Kevin McCarthy for the remainder of this term.

Fani Willis, the lead prosecutor in Donald Trump's Georgia election interference case, has won the state's Democratic primary election in her bid for a second term.
Fulton Country District Attorney Fani Willis defeated challenger Christian Wise during Tuesday's primary and will now face Republican Courtney Kramer in November's general election.
Judge Scott McAfee, also a key figure in Georgia election interference case,won a nonpartisan judicial race and was elected directly to the seat by Atlanta-area voters.
Nikki Haley, despite exiting from the White House race in March 2024, pulled in roughly 6 per cent of Kentucky primary vote. Another 4 per cent voted uncommitted.
Despite Haley's enduring popularity among committed Republicans, Donald Trump has indicated he is not considering his former Republican rival for vice president.
Senators Tim Scott and J.D. Vance as well as New York congresswoman Elise Stefanik have been named as the most likely candidates.
"Nikki Haley is not under consideration for the V.P. slot, but I wish her well!" Trump previously wrote on his Truth Social platform.
In Kentucky, Republican Thomas Massie fended off primary challengers for his seat in the state’s 4th Congressional District.

Over in Georgia, Lucy McBath (Democratic Party) knocked out two primary competitors for her seat in the Peach State’s 6th Congressional District.
Georgia Supreme Court Justice Andrew Pinson won reelection as well, fending off a challenge from former Democratic John Barrow.
