China launches family subsidy plan
China has launched its first federal childcare subsidy programme in a major bid to address its deepening demographic crisis. The country’s birth rate is in steady decline and the total fertility rate has fallen. To combat the effect, Beijing is now offering families 3,600 yuan or $501 annually for each child under the age of three.
