Zohran has taken a non-traditional approach to his political campaigns as he has been seen talking about the topics that are more aligned with the newest generation. Zohran, having origins in India, will be New York's first Muslim and Indian-American mayor, if elected. Recently, Zohran received a standing ovation during a housing rally for his speech. “There is no ideological majority in New York City,” Zohran told the Associated Press. “If you speak to the people directly about issues they care about, such as the sky-high cost of living, you can successfully build a coalition," he added.

<p>Mamdani then hits the nail on the head, saying that it is now about "what he'll become", but about "what he'll do" for every New Yorker.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><h2><strong>Will make "roti, kapda aur makaan" affordable, says Mamdani</strong></h2><p>&nbsp;</p><p>He lists the problems New Yorkers are facing, saying they are barely able to afford "roti, kapda aur makaan" (food, clothes and house), another famous Bollywood film.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>"I am fighting to change all this," he says, "through rent freeze, free buses, universal childcare and cheap groceries."</p><p>&nbsp;</p><h2><strong>Mamdani channels Rishi Kapoor from Karz</strong></h2><p>&nbsp;</p><p>"But I want to ask you one question? He says, before breaking into another famous Bollywood song from the movie Karz. "Hey, tumne kabhi kisi ko vote kiya?" He basically tried to simplify things for the people who are not fully familiar with the process.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>He asks people to rank him, Zohran Mamdani, as their first choice on the ballot to help him win. He also lists the other three candidates they can choose, and strictly requests them not to vote for Andrew Cuomo because "his campaign is being run using funds from Trump's donors", and a win will "give them control over New York along with DC."</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>He ends the video with another Hindi film song.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>According to the latest data for the Progress Survey of likely Democratic primary voters. Mamdani is only seven points behind Cuomo in the first round of New York City's ranked-choice voting system.</p>

He decided to join politics in October 2019 after a friend and fellow member of the local unit of Democratic Socialists of America suggested him to. He even defeated the incumbent Aravella Simotas by 346 votes in the Democratic primary. Owing to his area of work, Immigration and its laws are high on Zohran's list of 'issues' he would first like to tackle as an elected representative.<br />

He notes that despite New York being a city that has a large number of immigrants and several diverse neighbourhoods, Trump administration's 'deportation machinery' works in the city as well. And so, his aim would be to ensure that the United States Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) stays away from all New York courtrooms and hospitals. He also wants free health care for the low income group in the city.<br />

Considering his mother is such an illustrious filmmaker, it is rather surprising that he has never been too keen about the world of cinema. A fact that Mira Nair herself admitted to in a 2013 interview to Hindustan Times, "...I don’t see it in him to make movies. He is very involved with current affairs, politics, and political issues. I think he can be engaged in the world in some way to make a difference. He is very very interested in that, " Nair had said at that time.<br />

Zohran though has dabbled in rapping which has been a childhood hobby. He also has featuring in one of the videos titled 'Nani' which features 85-year-old veteran actress Madhur Jaffery along with Zohran as Mr Cardimom.<br />

"Oftentimes, people think of music and politics are separate endeavours, but I think they’re tied together...In both, you’re trying to tell a story. As Mr Cardamom, I was trying to tell a story about my grandmother made a little fantastical.
