Australia's Matildas have released a video statement calling out gender disparity in World Cup prize money and voicing support for women players denied "the basic right" of collective bargaining in pay negotiations. The video, supported by Australia's professional players union, features every member of the co-hosts' Women's World Cup squad and comes amid pay disputes at multiple teams at the tournament starting on Thursday.

The Matildas went on strike in 2015 to demand better pay and have received the same minimum percentage of prize money for tournaments as the Australia national men's team, the Socceroos, since a 2019 collective bargaining agreement. However, they will compete for a fraction of the $440 million total prize pool offered to the men's teams at last year's World Cup in Qatar.

"Seven hundred and thirty-six&nbsp;footballers have the honour of representing their countries on the biggest stage this tournament, yet many are still denied the basic right to organise and collectively bargain,” the players say in the video.

"Collective bargaining has allowed us to ensure we now get the same conditions as the Socceroos, with one exception – FIFA will still only offer women one quarter as much prize money as men for the same achievement.

"We call on those who run the game to work to provide opportunities for girls and women in&nbsp;football, whether that be players, coaches, administrators or officials."

Global governing body FIFA did not provide immediate comment. The total prize pool for the Women's World Cup is $110 million, roughly 300% higher than what FIFA offered for the 2019 tournament in France. FIFA is aiming for prize money parity by the time of the next men's and women's World Cups in 2026 and 2027, respectively. Players from Women's World Cup teams England, Canada and Nigeria have been in dispute with their federations over pay in the leadup to the tournament in Australia and New Zealand. The Matildas' message suggested gender equity in sport would again be a major point of discussion during the tournament, as it was in 2019 when the United States' pay dispute with their federation took the spotlight.

New Zealand midfielder Olivia Chance told Reuters it was natural for women to "push for equal".

"We are pushing for better standards of the game and I think it's only natural when you see an organisation that maybe are giving more - because they always have - then you're going to push for equal," she said.

"In a workplace, if you see someone getting more, you're going to push," she added, noting that she had not yet seen the video message. "That's just natural as a human being."

The Matildas' statement is reminiscent of the video released by the Socceroos ahead of the 2022 World Cup which spoke out against Qatar's record on human rights and same-sex relationships.

Football: Australian women's team voice their opinion on 2023 World Cup pay disparity

Indian women's cricket team have made rapid strides in recent years. It all began in 2017 when the Mithali Raj-led Indian eves had a stunning run in the ICC ODI World Cup, in England and Wales. Before that, the popularity of the women's team wasn't at its peak but everything changed following the Women in Blue's inspiring run in the marquee event where they finished&nbsp;second.

Mithali &amp; Co. beat Australia in the semi-finals to enter the final, where they met Heather Knight-led England and&nbsp;lost by nine runs at Lord's. Recently, India great Jhulan Goswami -- who ended her international career last year with most ODI wickets by a woman (255) -- recalled the heartbreaking loss while interacting with Anjum Chopra.

In Jhulan's last international game, Harmanpreet Kaur-led India created history as they whitewashed England in a three-match ODI series, in England. It was India's first-ever ODI series triumph in the country. Thus, Anjum asked Jhulan whether&nbsp;there could have been a better script&nbsp;as she ended&nbsp;with a victory at the same venue and against the same opponent who defeated India in the CWC'17 final.&nbsp;

<h2>'2017 was a great opportunity for us'</h2>

To this, Jhulan said, "No, it couldn't have been better. Remember 2001, we had gone to England to watch a match. I never thought I am going to play at that Lord's ground. Both of us played at Lord's for the first time in 2006. 2017 was a great opportunity for us. That was a great platform, we played well as a team in that World Cup, but unfortunately in the final at the last moment we couldn't take the last step and that was a very sad moment."

<h2>'In&nbsp;2017, there was a lot of passion&nbsp;to win&nbsp;because women's cricket was getting stagnant'</h2>

Jhulan further stated, "2005 (ODI WC -- where India ended second as well), because there were quality players, and sharing the dressing room with them was a great learning experience. 2017 was different, the quality was less but there was a lot of passion, that we have to win this tournament for women's cricket because we were getting stagnant."

She added, "No one was believing that we could reach the top four. A doubt had come there because we didn't play well in the 2013 World Cup at home, then we had back-to-back bad two or three T20 World Cups. So this World Cup was like proving ourselves that we are in the top four in the world."

In 2017, India beat the likes of England -- in the tournament-opener -- West Indies, Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, etc. but came second by a whisker in chase of 229 in the finale at Lord's. Jhulan ended the tournament as the third-highest wicket-taker (10).

'That was a very sad moment': Jhulan Goswami recalls Mithali Raj-led India's CWC'17 final loss

Former FIFA Council member Moya Dodd has criticised Gianni Infantino's threat of a Women's World Cup broadcast blackout in Europe this year and said the governing body is responsible for the tournament being historically undervalued. FIFA is selling TV rights to the women's tournament separately from the men's for the first time and President Infantino said Europe's "Big 5" nations face a blackout unless broadcasters improve on their "unacceptable" offers.

Broadcasters from Britain, Spain, France, Germany and Italy had offered only $1 million-$10 million for the rights, compared to $100 million-$200 million for the men's World Cup, he added. Dodd, an ex-Australia international, said the broadcast industry had undervalued the women's tournament as FIFA had sold the rights together with the men's. "Now that FIFA has decided to sell the rights separately, it's no surprise that the buyers don't want to pay the same big numbers twice," Dodd told the Sydney Morning Herald.

"Effectively, the industry was trained to pay big money for the men's World Cup and treat the women's equivalent as worthless. At the same time, the women were told they didn't deserve prize money or equal pay because they didn't bring the revenues. It's actually quite outrageous for FIFA to now say that all women's revenues will go straight into women's&nbsp;football since it overlooks the fact that the value of women's rights has until now been used to inflate the value of men's&nbsp;football."

Dodd said that instead of threatening broadcasters, FIFA should review all of its bundled deals and attribute a fair proportion to the women's game. "If in fact, the Women's World Cup gets 50-60 per cent&nbsp;of the viewers of the men's, as FIFA says, that should amount to a sum in the billions," she added.

FIFA did not comment on Dodd's remarks but Infantino earlier said that "100 per cent&nbsp;of any rights fees paid would go straight into women's&nbsp;football, in our (FIFA's) move to promote actions towards equal conditions and pay". In March, FIFA announced that a total package of $152 million would be on offer at this year's tournament – three times more than at the 2019 edition in France and over 10 times more than the amount offered at the 2015 tournament in Canada.

The Women's World Cup will be held from July 20-Aug 20 in Australia and New Zealand.

FIFA responsible for undervaluing Women's World Cup, says former FIFA Council member Moya Dodd

Europe's top soccer nations face a broadcast blackout for this year's Women's World Cup unless media can improve on their "disappointing" offers for the rights, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said.

Offers from "Big 5" European countries were not acceptable to football's world governing body and a "slap in the face" of the players and "all women worldwide", Infantino said.

The 'Big 5' nations are Britain, Spain, Italy, Germany and France.

"To be very clear, it is our moral and legal obligation not to undersell the FIFA Women’s World Cup," Infantino said at a World Trade Organization meeting in Geneva.

"Therefore, should the offers continue not to be fair, we will be forced not to broadcast the FIFA Women's World Cup into the 'Big 5' European countries."

The World Cup, being co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand, starts on July 20.

Infantino said broadcasters had offered only $1 million-$10 million for the rights, compared to $100 million-$200 million for rights to the men's World Cup.

Due to the time-zone difference, Women's World Cup matches will be held outside prime-time viewing hours for European markets but Infantino said that was no excuse.

"Maybe ... it’s not played on prime-time in Europe, but still, it is played at 9 a.m. or 10 a.m., so it is quite a reasonable time," he said.

Some 1.12 billion viewers tuned into the 2019 Women's World Cup in France across all platforms, according to a FIFA audit of the tournament.

Italy lock Sara Tounesi has been suspended for 12 matches for biting a player from Japan at the women's&nbsp;Rugby&nbsp;World Cup, meaning she miss Saturday's quarter-final against France. Tounesi was cited for biting an unnamed opponent during Italy's 21-8 win on Sunday.

The tournament's judicial committee upheld the citing complaint, World&nbsp;Rugby&nbsp;said in a statement on Tuesday. "The committee concluded that the player bit a Japanese player which ... merited a red card," said the statement. Tounesi has two days to appeal the decision. FIFA president Gianni Infantino on Saturday criticised television broadcasters who have offered "100 times less" to screen the Women's World Cup compared to the men's.

Infantino was speaking in Auckland hours before the draw for next year's Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, and with women's football breaking new ground.

The World Cup in July-August will have 32 teams for the first time and global interest is anticipated to be at an all-time high.

But without naming specific broadcasters, Infantino said offers submitted for the television rights were far too low.

"Broadcasters offer us 100 times less than what they offer us for the men's World Cup," Infantino told reporters.

He accused television companies of "pushing us to do more for equality and at the same time we are not going to accept these offers".

Infantino said that FIFA had invested one billion dollars into women's football in recent years.

The 2015 and 2019 Women's World Cups made a financial loss, but Infantino said: "The next World Cup will cost us around $400 million and we hope to break even."

For the first time, FIFA plans to sell the commercial rights separate from the men's tournament.

"We are trying to commercialise the Women's World Cup for the first time on its own," he said.

The FIFA boss also doubled down on assurances that gay fans who travel to Qatar for the men's World Cup next month will be safe, despite homosexuality being a criminal offence there.

"I have said it (before), I repeat it -- whatever nationality, background, gender, sexual orientation, everyone is welcome in Qatar," Infantino said.

Infantino also confirmed that the FIFA Clearing House, aimed at regulating the extra payments around transfer fees, will come into force on November 16.

"This will finally bring some transparency and accountability into the whole transfer market," said Infantino.

"Payments to strange places or strange bank accounts will not be tolerated any more."

He said the transfer market currently generates about six to seven billion dollars every year and predicts the figure will rise.

"We want to control that and make sure the money goes where it is supposed to."

The game looked poised for a close finish at the break, but China faded quickly in the third quarter, going 21 points behind as Jewell Loyd and Kelsey Plum scored a combined 15 points.

The United States weathered a late surge from China in the final quarter to secure their fourth straight World Cup title in front of close to 16,000 fans at the Sydney Superdome. JACKSON BOWS OUT WITH BRONZE

Earlier on Saturday, Jackson capped off her career in spectacular fashion, leading the scoring with 30 points as hosts Australia posted a 95-65 victory over Canada to take bronze. The 41-year-old, who announced her retirement on social media before the match, also equalled the record for most appearances at the Women's World Cup with her 43rd game in the competition. "They're the best group of the girls, I've had the best time, and it's the best journey I've had in the sport," said Jackson, who returned to the Australia squad in August following a lengthy absence after first retiring in 2016.

Kia Nurse scored 19 points to keep Canada within touching distance of Australia for the first half of the game, but Jackson's 12-point rampage in the third quarter gave the hosts a 17-point lead heading into the final 10 minutes. Jackson was then substituted off to a standing ovation with 2:22 remaining, as Australia closed out the win.

USA clinch record-extending 11th Women's World Cup title, beat China 83-61

Seattle forward Breanna Stewart drilled a game-high 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds as clinical reigning champions the United States crushed Canada 83-43 to sweep into the women's basketball World Cup final on Friday.

They opened with 15 unanswered points and never relented, extending their amazing World Cup win streak to 29 games to set up a gold-medal showdown in Sydney against Australia or China, who play later. Ever-dangerous Las Vegas Aces' star A'ja Wilson added 15 points and 12 rebounds for the US as they zero in on a fourth straight title and 11th overall. Laeticia Amihere scored eight points to lead a deflated Canada.

The USA were always overwhelming favourites in their 10th consecutive World Cup semi-final, having never failed to reach the last four since the knockout stage was introduced in 1986. In contrast, world number four Canada had got this far just once before, in 1986, when they also crashed to the USA.

The Americans' depth, defense and scoring talent was on full display once again. They have killed it inside all tournament, sinking 55 points a game in the paint ahead of the semi-final, while punishing errors.

It was a similar scenario against Canada, who have taken big strides under coach Victor Lapena but struggled against the speed of their opponents. The USA's 15 straight points at the start gave them an immediate stranglehold and Canada never recovered, needing five minutes to get off the mark.

While the US shot 79 percent, Canada could only manage 11 percent as they fell 27-7 behind after the first quarter. The margin only grew in the second frame to 45-21, with Stewart at the forefront. They put on another 22 points in the third quarter to build a huge 38-point buffer going into the final stretch before cruising home for an emphatic win.

Queen of women's cricket: Top 6 records held by Mithali Raj

Former captain Anjum Chopra believes India were never among the title contenders at the just concluded Women's World Cup and going forward, she wants the team to "emerge from a legacy of poor decision-making" to turn the corner.

India's underwhelming show at the ICC showpiece in New Zealand ended with a heartbreaking loss to South Africa in the group stage.

"It is time women's cricket emerges from legacy of poor decision making and be honest about what they want to do and how they want to do going forward. Otherwise, we will remain a near about team, we will never get there," Chopra told PTI in an exclusive interview.

Expectations were high after the runners-up finish in the previous World Cup five years ago but Chopra, who watched the action from the sidelines as a commentator, feels that the Mithali Raj-led squad never looked winning the trophy in the lead up to the mega event.

India were the only team to get a bilateral series against hosts New Zealand ahead of the World Cup but they could still not get fully used to the conditions and zero in on a settled combination.

"I won't say India played poorly. They played a few ordinary matches where they could have performed better. "I would say the kind of preparation and kind of skill the players showed prior to the World cup (against NZ) to getting into the World Cup, it was surprising to see the approach against Pakistan, the way they batted (though they won).

"It was surprising decision making (opting to bowl) against New Zealand . Coming to a particular country well in advance, paying six games and if you are still unaware of the conditions, it would be unfair to say that India played poorly, I would say they were not in the contest," Chopra said.

India failed to beat any of the SENA teams including England, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, ending with wins only against Pakistan, West Indies and debutants Bangladesh. Seeing India's campaign unfold they way it did, Chopra was left dispirited after the team failed to even reach the semifinals.

"It is not just players who need to take responsibility, it is everyone including support staff who should take the responsibility. It is not about crucifying one person. You will always have bad days but India were simply not consistent enough.

"As a player and broadcaster, from 1997 to 2022, I have seen every final and every semifinal. I never thought they could win the Cup but expected them to make the semis," said the left-handed batter.

"It is quite an imbalanced situation with the men's team performing consistently across formats but the women are not even able to reach the last four," she said.

Chopra feels India will remain a "near about" side if it doesn't focus on basics like fielding and running between the wickets. She feels that the players are not "unfit" but they are not "fit enough" compared to Australia and England.

"This (running between wickets) has been an issue for a long time. Either things have moved or they have not moved fast enough. If the bar has been raised, progression has to happen.

"It is a good sign that team has started scoring 270 regularly, it has progressed there in the last 15 months with no cricket the year before. If it can progress this much on that front, it can certainly improve in other areas." So what is the way forward for this team?

'Harmanpreet should captain across formats'

Though Mithali has not announced retirement yet, it is certain that she won't be around when the next World Cup happens. Vice-captain Harmanpreet Kaur is the front-runner for the job with star opener Smriti Mandhana being the other contender. Smriti is also eight years younger than Harmanpreet who is 33. The change of guard needs to happen now and Chopra says no better than T20 skipper Harmanpreet Kaur to lead India across formats.

"Harman has been an identified leader for a long time. She has been leading the T20 side for a long time. How can you brush aside an identified leader and get an absolute new person for the job? "Who was the best player of the tournament for India? It was Harman. You can't assign captaincy on hope. You did not make Virat Kohli captain on hope, you did not give Rohit captaincy on hope," she had her counter ready.

Former captain Anjum Chopra believes India were never among the title contenders at the just concluded Women's World Cup and going forward, she wants the team to "emerge from a legacy of poor decision-making" to turn the corner.

Also read | 'Lord of all lords': Ex-India cricketer lauds Livingstone after all-round show India were the only team to get a bilateral series against hosts New Zealand ahead of the World Cup but they could still not get fully used to the conditions and zero in on a settled combination. Anjum Chopra has her say on India's performance in Women's World Cup 2022

Australia's star all-rounder Ellyse Perry on Sunday said seeing wicketkeeper-batter Alyssa Healy go about her brilliant knock of 170 was just amazing to watch.

Healy smashed 170 off 138 balls, including 26 fours against England in the final at Hagley Oval to set up Australia's 71-run win and clinch their seventh World Cup trophy.

"They are unique (the other WC wins) but today was just wonderful. For Midge (Healy) to do what she did was amazing to watch. We had a wonderful crowd in and it has been a fantastic tournament for the game. The teams that have played have competed so hard, there have been some amazing contests and for Australia to finish the way we did was just awesome," said Perry after the match.

Perry was a huge doubt for the title clash as she sat out of Australia's last two matches against Bangladesh and semi-final against West Indies due to back spasms. But Perry was fit in time to replace fellow all-rounder Annabel Sutherland in the playing eleven for the final. Perry was quick in expressing her gratitude to the medical professionals with the team to get her fit in time for the final.

"It was pretty close in the end (on making the final). Huge amount of gratitude to our medical staff over the last 10 days to help me get there. Equally a hard one as someone had to miss out and Annabel is a great mate of mine and disappointed that she was the one. From a personal perspective, it was wonderful to be involved."

Though Perry hit some boundaries in the end to take Australia past the 350-mark, she didn't get to bowl due to managing her return from the back spasms. She didn't mind it but signed off by saying that the shift in mental attitude from the 2017 ODI World Cup semi-final exit changed Australia for the good.

"I did mark my run-up when we got to the ground but I definitely wasn't needed. I guess just the shift in the attitude to take the game on all the time and to deal with pressure along the way. Just that mentality is the huge shift from the 2017 World Cup has been impressive."

The Indian Junior Women's Hockey team made a winning start to their campaign at the FIH Hockey Women's Junior World Cup here on Saturday as they beat Wales 5-1 in their first pool D match.

Goals were scored by Lalremsiami (4'), Lalrindiki (32', 57'), Mumtaz Khan (41') and Deepika (58') while Millie Holme (26') was the lone goal scorer for Wales.

The Indian team, led by Salima Tete, got off the blocks with a swift attack in the first quarter, creating a penalty corner within a few seconds of the start of the match.

But the Wales goalkeeper Ffion Horrell was quick to respond with a good save. However, the Indian players were determined to make a strong start and scored in the fourth minute through Lalremsiami's deflection that beat the Wales goalie.

While Wales too won a PC in the first quarter, Indian goalkeeper Bichu Devi was brilliant at the post to make valuable saves.

India continued to remain resolute in their pursuit as they built on their performance in the second quarter, but the Indian forwards, who created potential goal-scoring opportunities, could not quite put the ball past Wales'&nbsp;defence led by Horrell who was astute at the goal post.

Though Wales put one past India in the 26th minute through Millie Holme, India made amends for their slow second quarter by bouncing back stronger in the third and the fourth quarters.

While Wales began the third quarter by earning a PC, Indian goalie Bichu Devi ensured they did not score from this opportunity. Only two minutes later, India pumped a goal into Wales'&nbsp;post when Lalrindiki got a perfect deflection off Salima Tete's assist.

Later, Mumtaz Khan took India's scoreline to 3-1 when she converted a brilliant field goal in the 41st minute. Meanwhile, Lalrindiki, a quick-thinking forward, was again at the centre of all the action when she fetched India another PC with just three minutes left for the third quarter to end.

But the chance could not be converted with Horrell coming up with yet another fine save. Though India made another PC in the dying minutes of the third quarter, Salima's shot on goal went wide.

In the final quarter, India put up an improvised attack that saw them convert the chances with aplomb.

Even though their first opportunity came in the 52nd minute when they won another PC, Horrell yet again blocked away from the shot. But with just a little less than four minutes left for the final hooter, Deepika helped win another PC.

Even though Horrell saved the shot, Ajmina Kujur took another shot from the rebound, which was saved again by Horrell.

Lalrindiki was quick to respond as she picked up the rebound and found the gap in India's third attempt. This helped extend India's lead to 4-1 while another PC in the 48th minute which was converted by Deepika, helped fetch India their first win with a formidable 5-1 scoreline.

Following the big win, Captain Salima Tete expressed, "I am very proud of the way we played today. We got off to a good start but gave away chances in the second quarter. I am particularly happy about how we came back into the game in the third and fourth quarters, finishing it off really well. We play Germany tomorrow, a strong team but today's win will give the team good confidence." Indian Junior Women's Team will now take on Germany on Sunday.

Women's FIH Junior World Cup: India thrash Wales 5-1 to start campaign on winning note

As Australia and England prepare to clash in the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup final at the Hagley Oval on Sunday, it's indeed an irony that despite having won 10 of the previous 11 World Cups between them, the two sides will face off in the title round for the first time in 34 years.

Australia have won six World Cups, while England have bagged four, and the two teams have a lot at stake, given that the Meg Lanning-led side would be in search of a record-extending seventh title, while England will look to defend their crown they won in 2017 at Lord's, defeating India.

Australia have lost only one World Cup final. Back in 2000, at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln, hosts New Zealand defeated Australia by just four runs in one of the closest final encounters the tournament has ever seen.

That year, England recorded their worst-ever World Cup finish of fifth before fighting back to take the trophy from Australia in 2009. That same year, England also claimed their first, and only, T20 World Cup as well as an Ashes victory.

It is something that Australia are hoping to match 13 years later, as they already hold the T20 trophy having secured that on home soil in 2020 before the Ashes were sealed with two games to spare in February, but the one-day World Cup evades them.

Australian vice-captain Rachael Haynes already has a winner's medal from 2013, and she is well on her way to a competition record -- the opening batter sits on 429 runs for the tournament, 27 behind Debbie Hockley of New Zealand`s all-time best set in 1997.

That is not the only record that could be broken in the final. England cricketer Sophie Ecclestone has the chance to surpass Australian Lyn Fullston, whose haul of 23 wickets in 1982 remains the mark to beat.

Ecclestone sits on 20 wickets having taken her maiden international five-wicket haul in the semifinal against South Africa ending on 6/36, the best figures by an England bowler in a World Cup.

The left-arm spinner is emblematic of England`s journey in the World Cup, where she and her team didn't quite make an impact at the start but have peaked at exactly the right time. The 22-year-old started with her worst-ever figures in ODIs with none for 77 against Australia in the group stage, while England were on the verge of elimination after losing three games.

Defeats to Australia, West Indies and South Africa saw England down and out, leaving the defending champions reeling, but wins against India, New Zealand, Pakistan and Bangladesh helped them book their place in the knockouts and set up a rematch of the 2017 semifinal with South Africa.

England saw off the Proteas with ease to keep their hopes of a fifth title alive, and Ecclestone praised captain Heather Knight's leadership as she guided her side back from the brink.

"Obviously we didn't start off great, I think the three from three losses wasn't great but to come back the way we have. I think Heather's a big part of this group and what we've achieved, so hopefully we can go out there on Sunday and do it for Heather," said Ecclestone.

Knight has the chance to make history as the first England captain to guide her side to back-to-back titles, that day at Lord's in 2017 is still fresh in their minds. However, Australia's memories of five years ago are morale shattering.

Meg Lanning's side was knocked out of the semifinal by the batting brilliance from India's Harmanpreet Kaur. And for fast bowler Megan Schutt, that result has led Australia to make a massive overhaul in terms of tactics.

"That was a very long time ago. We're a very different team and when I see photos from the 11 that were on that field, it's almost a 180 flip. What that brought was a form of professionalism and accountability that we didn't have back then and now we have plans A through to F and that was the kick up the butt that we needed. As much as we can talk about that being a failure and whatnot, that actually created a really good dynasty for us and it`s nice five years later to finally be in a final," said Schutt.

Women's WC Final: England look for title defence as undefeated Australia gears up for seventh championship

Danni Wyatt scored her second one-day international century and Sophie Ecclestone took six wickets as champions England crushed South Africa by 137 runs on Thursday to set up a mouthwatering Women's World Cup final against heavyweights Australia.

Wyatt, dropped five times, punished South Africa with 129 off 125 balls to help England build an imposing 293 for eight at Christchurch's Hagley Oval.
South Africa had won the toss and elected to field.

Ecclestone, the world's top-ranked spinner, celebrated a personal best 6-36 as South Africa collapsed to be all out for 156.

"Really pleased, that was a really complete performance from the girls today, something we’ve been searching for," England captain Heather Knight said.

"I think we’ll go in as underdogs (against Australia) for sure but we’re all equal at the start of the game."

Having started the tournament with three straight defeats, England have rebounded with five wins.

Thursday's victory was their most complete performance of the tournament, with Sophia Dunkley chipping in 60 in a 116-run partnership with Wyatt for the fifth wicket.

The English may need to lift their game again, however, to beat undefeated Australia at the same venue on Sunday.

Meg Lanning's side thrashed West Indies in the other semi-final and have a chip on their shoulder after being knocked out of the 2017 semi-finals.

Australia are unlikely to reproduce South Africa's ragged fielding display, which saw Wyatt dropped on 22, 36, 77, 116 and 117 before she was finally caught by a scrambling Lizelle Lee after hitting Masabata Klaas to short third man.

By that time, England were well on the way to setting South Africa a would-be world record chase.

Seamer Anya Shrubsole, the hero of the 2017 World Cup final, quickly put South Africa on the back foot with a fine spell of swing bowling to remove Lee for two and the dangerous Laura Wolvaardt for a caught-and-bowled duck.

Kate Cross and Charlie Dean took a wicket each to leave South Africa teetering at 67 for four before Ecclestone grabbed the remaining wickets to wrap up the match early.

Australia and England have won all of the 50-over World Cups barring New Zealand's sole triumph in 2000 on home soil.

Three-times semi-finalists South Africa missed out on a maiden final again but captain Sune Luus said her team had a "great World Cup".

"Don't think we had our best fielding performance (today)," she said.

"I just think we needed to be clinical today and we weren’t."

"I think we’ll go in as underdogs (against Australia) for sure but we’re all equal at the start of the game." Having started the tournament with three straight defeats, England have rebounded with five wins.

Women's World Cup: England thrash South Africa by 137 runs to set up summit clash against Australia

Australia skipper Meg Lanning on Tuesday announced that all-rounder Ellyse Perry has been ruled out of the upcoming semi-final clash of the ongoing ICC Women's ODI World Cup against West Indies.

Perry was forced from the field during Australia's match against South Africa last Tuesday due to back spasms.

"We'll go in without her tomorrow and we'll keep assessing her if we are to progress in the tournament. So, unfortunate for her and the team, obviously, a big blow but we feel like we've got some good depth to be able to cover it and we're going to have to do that tomorrow," said Lanning as reported by ESPNcricinfo.

Australia were hopeful about Perry's recovery on time but they were focused on putting their best foot forward in the semi-final with the personnel available at their disposal.

"Look, she hasn't done a lot [of training] over the past week, to be fair. She batted a little bit in the nets yesterday and felt okay, but she certainly just wasn't in a position, unfortunately, to be able to perform at the level needed tomorrow. So, that was why we`ve made the call on that today," said Lanning.

"But, to be honest, we haven't looked too far ahead. We will keep assessing her as we go if we are to progress but the team and the squad is very focused on tomorrow and making sure that we're putting out our best game because everything else is irrelevant, to be honest," she added.

This is the second World Cup semi-final on the trot Perry will miss, having sat out the 2020 T20 World Cup semi-final and the final on home soil through a hamstring injury sustained in eventual champions Australia's last league fixture.
