It was a game of fine margins as a crucial no-ball call in the final over meant that India were eliminated from the 2022 Women’s World Cup after losing to South Africa. With 3 runs need from 2 balls, Deepti Sharma dismissed Mignon du Preez as Harmanpreet Kaur took the catch at long-off.

However, the celebration was short lived as the third umpire confirmed that it was a no-ball and du Preez scored a boundary off the very next ball to end India’s dreams of reaching the knockout stage.

Women's World Cup: Defending champions England book semis spot with comfortable 100 run win against Bangladesh

Mithali Raj on Sunday became the oldest Indian cricketer to score a half-century in the ICC Women's World Cup.

Mithali achieved this feat in the ongoing ICC Women's ODI World Cup clash against South Africa here in Christchurch on Sunday.

Interestingly, the current Women in Blue skipper was also the youngest Indian cricketer to score a half-century in the Women's World Cup back in 2000 against South Africa.

Their destiny in their own hands, India will go all out to brush off an inconsistent run and seal a semifinal berth in the Women's World Cup when they play South Africa in a do-or-die match here on Sunday.

So far in the tournament, the 2017 runners-up haven't fired in the manner they would have like to.

With three wins and as many losses India, who are in the fifth spot with six points in the overall standings, find themselves in a must-win situation heading into their final league match.

Their semifinal chances were dented when West Indies, who are also vying to advance to the knockout stage, and South Africa's match was washed out with the former moving up to seven points earlier this week.

A win on Sunday will see India advance to the last four, and a point from the game will also work for the Mithali Raj-led side, as they have a superior NRR (+0.768) than West Indies (-0.890).

In case India lose to South Africa, their only hope of advancing to the semifinals will be if England, who have a better NRR (+0.778), also lose their last league stage match to Bangladesh and finish on a lower NRR. That seems unlikely, though.

But the 'Women in Blue' would want to hold all the cards and also get a two-match winning momentum going into the semifinals.

India's inconsistent batting came to the fore yet again in an otherwise 110-run win against Bangladesh, and skipper Raj would be keen to improve on that aspect against a challenging South African bowling attack.

"Tomorrow is a crucial game and everyone knows that. They are all ready to give their 100 percent. Whoever goes out to bat goes out thinking we have to get partnerships and back each other," Shafali Verma said at the pre-match press conference.

"We want good partnerships in tomorrow's match as a batting unit. The bowling and fielding has become quite good. We have improved as a team," she added.

Raj herself has been struggling with the willow. She has four single-digit scores in the tournament.

Potentially playing her last game for India should they not make the semis, the 39-year-old veteran would be eager to get some runs under her belt, and ensure that her team makes the cut.

Smriti Mandhana, barring the century against West Indies, has also looked scratchy. Shafali got some much-needed runs against Bangladesh while Yastika Bhatia has slotted herself perfectly at No. 3.

Vice-captain Harmanpreet Kaur has been India's most consistent performer with the bat while all-rounders Pooja Vastrakar and Sneh Rana have shown they can be counted on to score quick runs down the order.

The batters will need to fire as a group to get the better of South Africa who have only lost one match in the tournament.

The bowling department, which has looked lacklustre at times, put up a much-improved show against Bangladesh. The move to bring in spinner Poonam

Yadav in place of pacer Meghna Singh paid off for India.

However, it remains to be seen if India persist with two pacers, three spinners strategy at the Hagley Oval, which has a balanced track where the bowlers will have to be disciplined with their line and lengths.

South Africa, on the other hand, have already qualified for the semifinals. They sit second in the overall standings, behind Australia.

However, batting remains a concern for the Proteas. Laura Wolvaardt has been South Africa's stand-out batter. Skipper Sune Luus has three half-centuries while Marizanne Kapp has played a few cameos.

The teams (from):

India: Mithali Raj (c), Harmanpreet Kaur (vc), Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Yastika Bhatia, Deepti Sharma, Richa Ghosh (wk), Sneh Rana, Jhulan Goswami, Pooja Vastrakar, Meghna Singh, Renuka Singh Thakur, Taniya Bhatia (wk), Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Poonam Yadav.

Women's World Cup: South Africa book semi-final berth after washout against West Indies

After facing defeat by Australia on Saturday in the ongoing ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2022, India captain Mithali Raj said her side needs to do well in every department as the next two matches are must-win for them.

Fighting knocks from Mithali Raj, Yastika Bhatia accompanied by Harmanpreet Kaur's late flourish helped India to reach the score of 277/7 in 50 overs.

"When you lose you always feel that you are 10-15 runs short. Maybe the way the Australians started, they were ahead and the fielders did not back the bowlers when it was needed. It was one of those days when the bowling unit didn't do well but they have been for the last four-five games," said Mithali Raj in the post-match presentation.

"It has do with the girls playing in the leagues in Australia and with that comes a lot of exposure playing with the best players. Experience helps. The bowling did take a hit. The next two games becomes very important and we would look to do well in all departments," the 39-year-old continued.

Indian skipper Mithali Raj played a gritty inning of 68 while Yastika Bhatia scored 59 at Eden Park.

Harmanpreet Kaur's 57* and Pooja Vastrakar's 34 aided the Women in Blue to finish on high but their efforts went in vain as Australia chased down the target in the last over of the match. Now India will face Bangladesh and South Africa in their next must-win games.

"We got ourselves in that position but the next two games is a must-win for us. Thank all the people, the Indians who have come and supported us today. The experience she gets us over the years. Incredible achievement for a fast bowler to play over 200 games. It takes a lot of discipline, she is definitely a role model for many young girls back in India," she finished.

Women's WC: Next two games must-win for us, will look to do well in all departments, says Mithali Raj

Mithali Raj-led India have their task cut out as they lock horns with one of the two unbeatable teams, i.e. Australia, in the ongoing ICC Women's World Cup on Saturday (March 19). With two wins and an equal number of losses, India are in a tricky position as far as semi-finals qualifications are concerned. Thus, they cannot afford any further slip-up as it will further complicate their task of finishing in the top-four.

Talking about India's run so far, the two-time runners-up thrashed Pakistan in their opening game before losing to New Zealand by a convincing margin. They then returned back to winning ways with a big win over then-unbeaten side West Indies, in their third game, before going down to England, who was winless before the India face-off. Will India end another team's unbeaten run in the eight-team tournament? Without a doubt, Australia will be a totally different challenge as the Women in Yellow have four wins from as many encounters.

Match prediction for India vs Australia CWC 2022 face-off: Meg Lanning-led Aussies have been on a roll. So far, they edged past England before demolishing the likes of Pakistan, New Zealand and West Indies. Both teams have not played at the iconic Eden Park, Auckland, hence, that might test the two camps. Nonetheless, the Aussies are much more balanced, in a red-hot form to adapt and continue their winning run. For India, they need to click as the tournament is progressing towards the business end and the race for the semi-finals spot is heating up.

Given Australia and South Africa are very much likely to end as the top-two ranked sides, India are wary of the challenges with New Zealand, West Indies and England (who can still turn it around despite a solitary win from four games) battling it out for the remaining two slots.

At present, it seems Australia will continue their winning run unless India bring out their A-game.

Jhulan Goswami has made it a habit of scripting new feats or milestones during every Indian women's game. In Mithali Raj-led India's fourth encounter of their ongoing campaign in the ICC Women's World Cup, Jhulan made heads turn once again by becoming the first-ever woman to enter the 250-wicket club when she removed Tammy Beaumont for 1.

After India failed miserably with the bat to be dismissed for a paltry 134 in 36.2 overs, the onus was on the bowlers to build pressure with some quick wickets. After Meghna Singh accounted for Danielle Wyatt's wicket, pacer Jhulan struck in her second over itself and dismissed Beaumont to script history by becoming the first woman to enter the elusive 250-wicket club. Interestingly, the first player to take 250 scalps in men's ODIs was also an Indian; i.e. Kapil Dev.

Among women cricketers, Jhulan continues to lead the list of most ODI wickets:

Jhulan Goswami - 250* wickets

Cathryn Lorraine Fitzpatrick - 180 wickets

Anisa Mohammed - 180 wickets

Shabnim Ismail - 168 scalps

Katherine Helen Brunt - 164

Among Indian players overall, Jhulan also joined an elite list of bowlers.

Indians with 250+ ODI wickets:

Anil Kumble
Javagal Srinath
Ajit Agarkar
Zaheer Khan
Harbhajan Singh
Kapil Dev
Jhulan Goswami

In India's previous clash, Jhulan had become the highest wicket-taker in Women's World Cup history (40).

For the unversed, a total of 4 wins are deemed enough to qualify for the knockouts. Thus, India need two more wins -- from three games -- to enter the semis. With India to play Australia, Bangladesh and South Africa, respectively, they are still very much in chance to enter the next round even if they lose to the invincibles and so far unbeaten team Australia. As long as the Women in Blue do not lose by a huge margin versus the Aussies, wins against the other two opponents should be just enough to enter the semi-finals. Nonetheless, the face-offs versus the Bangla Tigers and South Africa won't be a cakewalk by any means whatsoever.

Talking about Bangladesh and South Africa, the former has only one win -- having beaten Pakistan -- whereas the Proteas are unbeaten, so far, after three outings. Thus, India have their task cut out to win at least two and not lose any game by a big margin.

Above all, they need to address their inconsistency and pull up their socks to progress ahead and become serious contenders.

When you lose you always think you are short on runs. Getting 200 could have had the match go either way. Every game we've done well as a fielding unit. It is a department where we have improved. Women's World Cup: Clinical Australia outclass arch-rivals New Zealand by 141 runs

India women's head coach Ramesh Powar said that the batting performance of the team in the first 20 overs against New Zealand surprised him.

At the same time, Powar was confident that his side will bounce back after New Zealand trashed India by 62 runs in the ICC Women's ODI World Cup on Thursday.

"It was one of those days when things didn't go our way. Honestly, I was also surprised by the way we batted in the first 20 overs. If you look back at the last six games which we played against New Zealand, we were executing our plans well. I think it is the pressure of the World Cup but I don't want to give any excuses," said Ramesh Powar in the pre-match virtual press conference.

Powar explained how India's batting has been improved since the last three tours and now the team have been scoring more than 280 runs.

"Nothing different. It's been a process for a while. If you have watched us in the last six months or last three tours, we've been improving as a batting unit, we used to struggle to get to 220 and have been scoring 270-280. It is up to the individuals now. As I always say, it is the players who go out there and face that pressure and come out of it with their own skills and character," added Power.

Powar believes that the match against West Indies is a great opportunity for the team India to get back to winning ways.

"This is the right time to put your hand up and put up performances as we have been training for the last six months. We've been to England, Australia and came to NZ early, we got every practice opportunity which was needed. So, it is time as a group to stand up and deliver," he pointed.

He further added that the Mithali Raj-led side is well aware of how to perform well against the variation of bowling attacks in the World Cup.

After a spirited 107-run win in their tournament-opener, Mithali Raj-led India lost their second encounter in the ongoing ICC Women's World Cup on Thursday (March 09). Facing home side New Zealand, Indian eves faltered with the bat to lose by 62 runs and now they will have to regroup ahead of their clash versus the Stafanie Taylor-led Windies line-up (who are unbeaten so far after two games).

Coming to India's run so far, they have fared well with the ball, spearheaded by Jhulan Goswami. While India managed to dismiss an average Pakistani batting line-up for a paltry 137. On the other hand, India claimed an early wicket versus the White Ferns, but couldn't get rid of the top and middle-order before staging a mini-comeback towards the end of the innings to restrict the New Zealanders for 260/9. At one stage, it seemed the hosts would've surpassed the 280-run mark.

With the bat, India need to buckle up. In their opening game, they were 114-6 before Sneh Rana-Pooja Vastrakar bailed them out. In the game versus the Kiwis, India were never in the hunt in pursuit of 261 as their timid approach with the bat was heavily criticised and remains a big concern going forward. The likes of Smriti Mandhana, Mithali, Shefali Verman, Yastika Bhatia, Deepti Sharma, etc. need to up the ante to not add pressure towards the end of the innings.

Indian skipper Mithali Raj on Sunday said that her side might have won the match against Pakistan but there is a lot of work that needs to be done.

The top-order has to score runs in a big tournament like this. When you have allrounders like Sneh, Deepti and Pooja, we extend our batting line up," Mithali said after the game ended.

IND vs PAK, Women's World Cup live streaming: When and where to watch India vs Pakistan match?

Despite millions of fans watching on from either side of the border, both India and Pakistan captains are treating their match-up in the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2022 as just another game.

For India's Mithali Raj, the match is the chance to build momentum as India go for a first World Cup title.

"I think as a team we are excited to get into the World Cup and starting our campaign tomorrow. It's the first game, we are not looking at it as it's Pakistan we are playing against, we're looking at a team which has come prepared and we are equally prepared to put our best foot forward and we want to set a momentum going into the tournament, so that's how we look at our first game," said Mithali, as reported by ICC.

"Every time we play a World Cup, every game is very different - different locations, different conditions, different opponent. We've tried to give everybody a go in the warm-up game, so that everybody gets into the rhythm, they form the core players - and for tomorrow's game I think all of them have been watching the first opening game and everybody has their set plans," she added.

As Raj embarks on her sixth World Cup, a record for the women's event, she shared a message for the Women in Blue.

"I think as a team, we need to get in with a clean slate, confident unit. And believe that we can always turn things around and play according to the situation. It's very important when you have a longer tournament - important to be present. Be aware on the ground and play according to the situation," said Raj.

Pakistan and India will meet in an ODI for the first time since the 2017 ICC Women's Cricket World Cup, but for Pakistan skipper Bismah Maroof it will be nothing out of the ordinary.

The ruling could not have been more clear.

One of soccer’s six regional bodies had engaged in discriminatory behavior against a female official by hindering her chances of getting a seat on its board and a leadership position with the sport’s global governing body, FIFA.

The official, Mariyam Mohamed, also convinced judges at sports’ top court that an influential Kuwaiti sheikh had actively interfered in elections held by the Asian Football Confederation in 2019 to achieve his desired outcome.

The full ruling, which has not been published, was obtained by The New York Times. In it, a panel at the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland concluded that the inaction by Asian soccer officials over several months amounted to a “denial of justice” for Mohamed. Yet two months since the decision was announced, the effect of what appears to be a powerful denunciation of ethics breaches and a disregard for women’s rights has had all the effect of a snowball hitting a tank.

Nothing has happened.

The tainted elections will not be rerun. The men who offered Mohamed inducements to drop out have not been punished. And soccer’s leaders have taken no action.

FIFA said in an email it had no comment, even though it previously insisted it would follow up on the court’s findings with soccer officials in Asia. Asian soccer’s governing body also declined to comment, saying its leaders had nothing to add to a January statement in which they had pledged the organization would review the findings.

For Mohamed, the silence has been maddening.

“It’s just a game for them, justice denial, the same process that I was in,” she said in a phone interview. “They’re waiting for time to pass by, and hoping I get fed up. Now the verdict has come, and it’s just very sad. I don’t know where else to go now.”

Mohamed, who filed her complaints to the Asian federation’s disciplinary department in May 2019, says she initially celebrated the ruling, but came to realize it may amount to a Pyrrhic victory.

She has not been contacted by officials from the AFC, she said. Nor has she heard from ethics investigators from FIFA, even though the organization’s rules state that gender discrimination is “strictly prohibited and punishable by suspension or expulsion.”

The case and its aftermath have highlighted how power works in global sports. It shows how a tainted Gulf royal linked to other cases of corruption has been able to exert significant control over one of soccer’s largest governing bodies even though he has no official role in its affairs. And it shows how a strategy of delay can be its own kind of injustice.

Mohamed’s case had roots in FIFA’s response to its own problems with discrimination: To address a lack of women on its governing board, the organization since 2013 set aside specific seats for women, starting with one voting member in 2013 and now a minimum of one from each of FIFA’s six regional confederations.

Mohamed, a former soccer player and coach from the Maldives, an archipelago in the Indian Ocean, had hoped to win the AFC’s spot in a vote in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in April 2019. It did not take her long to realize that the power brokers of Asian soccer had already decided the election’s outcome.

She filed her first complaints about the election to the Asian confederation’s disciplinary department a month later. Emails show the organization responded to her inquiries by insisting it had begun an investigation, although it appears little was done. The AFC, citing confidentiality, refused to supply any evidence of its investigation to the court.

At a hearing at the Court of Arbitration for Sport last July, the AFC hardly put up a defense. Its lawyers offered no witnesses to challenge Mohamed’s testimony that a top confederation official and the head of the soccer federation of Qatar had been present in a luxury hotel suite when the Kuwaiti sheikh, Ahmad al-Fahad al-Sabah, told Mohamed he had decided that his preferred candidate, Mahfuza Akhter Kiron of Bangladesh, would be elected as the AFC’s female representative to the FIFA Council.

Mohamed was told she should drop her candidacy, and do so within 24 hours. She later claimed, in testimony that went unchallenged by the AFC, that Sheikh Ahmad attempted to mollify her by saying he had so much sway in international soccer circles that he could obtain for her “any other position of her choosing at the AFC or FIFA” in exchange for her withdrawal.

By this point, Sheikh Ahmad had no official role in soccer, having resigned his position on the FIFA Council in 2017 after allegations emerged in a U.S. federal court that he had bribed Asian officials. But Mohamed’s decision to take her case to court provided a rare public glimpse into his continuing stature as a power broker in global sports through his role as the president of the Olympic Council of Asia, an organization created by his father in 1982.

At a 2013 International Olympic Committee meeting, for example, Sheikh Ahmad’s support helped Thomas Bach secure the IOC presidency and also deliver the 2020 Olympics to Tokyo. Since he was indicted in a forgery case unrelated to sports in 2018, he has “self-suspended” from two prominent Olympic roles. But his opinion still carries weight.

Before the AFC’s 2019 elections, his legal troubles did not seem to be an issue. A list of his favored candidates was distributed to AFC voters on the eve of the elections and, aware of the talks with Mohamed and of Sheikh Ahmad’s preference for a different candidate, the leaders of several federations pressured Mohamed to drop out, she said. She declined to withdraw, and lost the vote, 31-15. Every candidate on Sheikh Ahmad’s list, however, was elected to seats on the AFC’s executive board or, as in Kiron’s case, as a confederation representative to FIFA.

After reviewing the evidence presented by Mohamed and her lawyers, the CAS panel made clear in the summary of its decision that it agreed with her version of the events. The panel confirmed that the 2019 elections had breached FIFA and AFC rules on gender discrimination. It concluded that Sheikh Ahmad had tried to influence the outcome, and that the AFC had denied Mohamed justice by not making a ruling on her complaint. It did, however, also say that by not bowing out of the elections, Mohamed ensured the sheikh’s efforts to influence the election in her case were not effective.

But the court said it was powerless to order that the flawed elections be annulled, or to punish any of the individuals accused of interfering with them. Any decision on further action was for FIFA, and the AFC, to decide, the court said.

Because of the rules governing the court, the panel’s full findings have been cloaked in secrecy since the verdict was announced on Jan. 25.

“If nothing happens it is a disgrace for FIFA, the AFC, and undermines the authority of CAS indirectly,” said Miguel Maduro, the former FIFA governance head who gave evidence in Mohamed’s case. “This award and what follows tells us at once that CAS has exposed corruption at the highest level of elections in football and at the same time tells us they cannot do anything about it.”

Maduro added that at the very least, FIFA should have initiated an ethics inquiry after the ruling. To date, it has not.

Such a move, though, would be extremely sensitive for soccer’s global leadership. The FIFA official responsible for overseeing the 2019 election, Eduardo Ache, told the CAS panel that soccer’s guidelines to improve female representation were mere recommendations. The panel said Ache’s evidence suggested he was “prepared to accept any discrimination provided at least one woman was elected to FIFA.”

But pressing for discipline in the case also could be uncomfortable for FIFA’s president, Gianni Infantino, who relies on the support of national and regional soccer leaders to push his agenda. He recently spent two weeks touring Africa, for example, to ensure that his favored candidate, a South African billionaire with no high-level experience in soccer administration, was elected president of the continent’s regional confederation. And he is unlikely to press for discipline against the leader of Qatar’s soccer federation — reportedly present when Mohamed was offered inducements to step aside — or any other Asian leader a year before Qatar hosts the 2022 World Cup.

The longer the full ruling in Mohamed’s case goes unpublished, though, the more it will give the appearance soccer’s leaders are trying to brush a problematic situation under the carpet, said Johan Lindholm, a professor of law at Umea University in Sweden who has published a book on CAS.

“Whether it’s because of bad PR or there are other things going on, then you would probably want to keep it as secret as possible,” Lindholm said.

“This award and what follows tells us at once that CAS has exposed corruption at the highest level of elections in football and at the same time tells us they cannot do anything about it.” Maduro added that at the very least, FIFA should have initiated an ethics inquiry after the ruling. To date, it has not. Such a move, though, would be extremely sensitive for soccer’s global leadership. The FIFA official responsible for overseeing the 2019 election, Eduardo Ache, told the CAS panel that soccer’s guidelines to improve female representation were mere recommendations. The panel said Ache’s evidence suggested he was “prepared to accept any discrimination provided at least one woman was elected to FIFA.” But pressing for discipline in the case also could be uncomfortable for FIFA’s president, Gianni Infantino, who relies on the support of national and regional soccer leaders to push his agenda.

A soccer official proved her discrimination case. No one was punished.

A decade ago Australia spent millions of taxpayer dollars on a disastrous quest to host the 2022 men's World Cup, but its football boss is quietly confident that crushing defeat will not be repeated this week.

Australia and New Zealand's joint bid to host the 2023 women's World Cup, using the slogan "As One", is up against Colombia, with the decision due on June 25 after the field was whittled down from 10.

Japan, whose 'Nadeshiko' women's team won the 2011 World Cup, withdrew on Monday, a move seen as taking Australia and New Zealand's biggest rival out of the race.

Thursday's announcement by the FIFA Council comes with women's football, and women's sport in general, on an upward trajectory. The last women's World Cup in France was a big success, watched by 1.12 billion people globally.

The next edition will have 32 teams for the first time, up from 24, with pressure on to take it to another level.

Australia and New Zealand both have experience in hosting major events and their bid was regarded as the frontrunner after scoring strongly in FIFA's evaluation report.

"When you look at our bid, we think it ticks a lot of the boxes," Football Federation Australia chairman Chris Nikou told AFP.

"Whether that's infrastructure, or the facilities, whether it's the legacy or the commercial outcomes for FIFA.

"Or just our genuine engagement with women's sport and women's issues... and Australia and New Zealand are great places to visit too, so as a package we hope it's a compelling proposition."

There was also optimism in 2010 when billionaire Frank Lowy, then FFA chairman, vigorously pursued hosting rights for the 2022 men's World Cup, only to win just a single vote as the event controversially went to Qatar.

It was a humiliating outcome for Australia, and was followed by bloodletting at FIFA as allegations unfolded of corruption at the world body's highest levels.

Nikou said it was a different ball game now, with FIFA having a new president in Gianni Infantino and a new constitution, while each vote will be public as opposed to the previous secrecy.

"Comparing the two eras, the previous bid to this one, I think it's like comparing apples to oranges," he said. "FIFA have been very adamant about a transparent process, a fair and open process, and it's been very comprehensive."

If Australia and New Zealand win, it will be the biggest sports event to be held by either country since the Sydney Olympics 20 years ago.

Their bid has already won public support from the ASEAN bloc, with initiatives to not just promote football in the host nations but also Southeast Asia, where it is hoped increased female participation can act as a driver for social change.

"A joint World Cup would also send a clear message to the Pacific islands about the rise of women's sport and certainly give them role models, and give us something to work with them to advance women's issues generally," said Nikou.

Australia and New Zealand's prime ministers, Scott Morrison and Jacinda Ardern, promised the World Cup would "embody our passion for women's football" and attract record crowds.

"Football is the game that connects us all," they wrote in a joint letter to the FIFA Council.

"We sincerely hope that an Australia-New Zealand FIFA Women's World Cup will bring us all together again in 2023, when we can all celebrate humanity, community and unity through football."

Australia and New Zealand have been ahead of the curve in promoting equal pay and gender equality in sport, which should sit well with FIFA's vision of having 60 million women and girls playing football by 2026.

Nikou said he hoped the achievements would not go unnoticed.

"Those who delve into those details will genuinely see two countries committed to women's sport," he said. "When you look at it, we are living the values that are part of FIFA's broader game plan for sport."

The two countries plan to share the tournament between 12 cities.

Stadiums -- a combination of boutique and large -- already exist, with the opener in Auckland and the final in Sydney. Tickets will cost as little as US$5 with officials confident up to 1.5 million spectators will attend.

Nikou pointed to Australia and New Zealand's previous success in hosting top events, including cricket and rugby World Cups and Commonwealth Games, as well as the Olympics.

"We've got a strong track record of putting on world-class events so I'm very comfortable that we would produce the best ever women's World Cup," he said.
