However, the duo looked far from their best. While Rohit was struggling to middle the ball properly, Kohli did play a few dazzling strokes but was rode on luck on a few occasions.

While it was a half-hearted stroke, many felt there was no need for Kohli to go for a big shot immediately after Rohit's dismissal. Gavaskar said both Rohit and Kohli got out to forgettable shots and should have tried to stay longer on the crease and play big knocks as the required rate was not much.

"Today, he had a lot of luck, drop catches, a lot of inside edges, which went so close to the stumps, he had the luck. But he did capitalise on it and played some very fine shots," Gavaskar was quoted as saying by India Today.

"But one had expected that with the kind of start that he had, he should have got around 60-70. He got out immediately after Rohit got out. Both of them got out to forgettable shots. At that stage, those shots were not necessary as the asking rate wasn't 19 or 20 for them to attempt sixes at that stage.

"It was required for them to get going, get to 70-80 and then maybe go for the big shots. That should be learning from this game," he added.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the pick of the bowlers for India with a four-wicket haul&nbsp;while Hardik scalped three as Pakistan were skittled out for a paltry 147 in 20 overs.

It was expected to be a tough chase for the Men in Blue, considering the bounce on offer for the pacers and it did turn out to be a tricky one at the end. India once again got off to a shaky start as Naseem Shah sent opener KL Rahul packing on a duck in the very first over before Rohit&nbsp;and Virat Kohli&nbsp;added 50 runs for the 2nd wicket.

The duo steadied the ship for the team but were dismissed in quick succession. While Rohit struggled for his 12 off 18 balls, Kohli played some fine strokes&nbsp;en route to 35 off 34 balls but once again failed to convert his start&nbsp;into a big score.

After the duo's departure, Ravindra Jadeja, who surprisingly came out to bat at no.4, added 36 runs for the fourth wicket with Surykaumar Yadav. Suryakumar was cleaned up by&nbsp;Shah after a run-a-ball 18 paving the way for Hardik's arrival as the all-rounder joined&nbsp;forces with Jadeja in the middle and took India closer to the finishing line.

With 21 runs required off the final 12 deliveries in India's&nbsp;148-run chase, Hardik slammed three boundaries off four balls in the penultimate over from fast bowler Haris Rauf to bring the equation in India's favour before finishing things off in style in the final over.

Jadeja was dismissed on the very first delivery of the final over leaving India in a tricky spot despite just 7 runs needed as Dinesh Karthik arrived in the middle. However, Hardik looked unfazed by Jadeja's untimely dismissal and showed no signs of pressure even after playing a dot ball on the third delivery to leave six&nbsp;runs to get off the last three balls.

The star all-rounder smacked a huge six in a nonchalant manner&nbsp;on the 4th delivery to take India home without breaking a sweat. India vs Pakistan, Asia Cup 2022 HIGHLIGHTS: Hardik, Jadeja propel India to thrilling 5-wicket win

Team India superstar Virat Kohli won the hearts of many with his brilliant gesture for Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf after the blockbuster clash between the two sides in Asia Cup 2022 on Sunday (August 28). Kohli gifted a signed jersey to Rauf following India's five-wicket victory against Babar Azam &amp; Co. at the Dubai International Stadium.

It was an intense clash between the two arch-rivals as the game went down the wire with India pulling off a thrilling win courtesy of Hardik Pandya's brilliant knock. After bundling out Pakistan for 147 runs, India were in a tricky spot in their run-chase as they found themselves reeling on 89/4 in the 15th over.

However, Pandya joined forces with Ravindra Jadeja in the middle and took India home comfortably. The duo added 49 runs for the fifth wicket before Jadeja was dismissed on the first ball of the 20th over. Pandya then finished off the proceedings in style with a six to hand India their first win of the tournament.

Kohli and Rohit added 49 runs for the second wicket after Rahul's early departure before the duo got out in a similar fashion, getting caught by Iftikhar Ahmed off the bowling of Mohammad Nawaz. Gambhir said Kohli would have been disappointed by the way he got out and should have played more sensibly after witnessing Rohit depart on the other end.

"He (Kohli) will be extremely disappointed because Rohit Sharma's wicket had just fallen and after that if you play a shot like that, it is good a youngster did not play that shot. There would have been a lot of criticism if a youngster had played that kind of shot," Gambhir said on&nbsp;Star Sports.

"I am sure the number of runs he has scored in international cricket. When he sees this shot he will tell himself that the shot was not required. You played 34 balls and scored 35 runs, your captain had just gotten out, if you had built your innings a little more, things might have become easier," he added.

Virat Kohli on Sunday (August 28) became the first-ever Indian cricketer to complete 100 matches in each format of the game. Kohli added another feat to his list of achievements as he reached the triple-figure mark in T20Is after taking the field against Pakistan in India's Asia Cup 2022 opener on Sunday (August 28).

While Kohli is the first Indian to play a hundred or more matches in Tests, ODIs and T20Is, he is the second player in world cricket after New Zealand legend Ross Taylor to complete the rare milestone. Taylor, who retired from international cricket earlier this year, played 112 Tests, 236 ODIs and 102 T20Is in his international career.

Being the only member of the elite club, Taylor welcomed Kohli to it with a heartfelt wish on social media. Interestingly, Taylor had shared the dressing room with Kohli at the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Hardik was praised by many, including his teammate and former captain Kohli, who took to his Instagram story to hail him as a champion.

After bagging the Man of the Match award for his impressive outing, Pandya recalled India's clash against Pakistan in Asia Cup 2018 where he had to be stretchered&nbsp;off after an injury and expressed gratitude over&nbsp;his redemption.

"I was recalling everything. I was taken out on a stretcher. The same dressing room. You know, you feel a sense of achievement because the things that have happened and after that getting an opportunity like this... so the journey is very beautiful," Pandya told Jadeja in a video shared by BCCI.

Rishabh Pant, on the other hand, wasn't part of the Pakistan clash -- with India choosing to go ahead with Dinesh Karthik over the swashbuckling left-hander -- and will hope to get a look-in before the Super Four round. Shoaib Akhtar, former Pakistan pacer, had plenty to say about the Indo-Pak clash. He slammed Mohammad Rizwan for playing an unimpressive 42-ball 43-run-knock and slammed both captains for 'bad selections'.

&nbsp;"If Rizwan will play run-a-ball then obviously what will happen? 19 dot balls in the first 6 overs. If you play so many dot balls, then you will face problems," Akhtar said on his&nbsp;YouTube&nbsp;channel.

Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli recently managed to etch his name in cricket folklore as he became the first Indian cricketer to make appearances in 100 matches in every single format of the sport, ODI, Test and T20.&nbsp;

In addition to reaching the top of the food chain in the national cricketing circuit, Kohli also managed to equal New Zealand's&nbsp;cricketing legend Ross Taylor's record for the same, effectively becoming the second cricketer of all time to achieve the feat.

Up until now there have only been a handful of players, 13, who can boast of owning the distinction of having competed in 100 or more T20I matches in the world. However, Taylor, and now Kohli,&nbsp;are now the only players who have the achieved the feat across all platforms.

"I'm a person who wakes up and feels okay, let's see what the day has for me and be part of everything that I'm doing through the day with absolute presence and involvement and happiness. That's how it has always been," Kohli said in a video shared by BCCI.

Kohli's struggle with the bat has been well documented as the former India captain has failed to deliver consistently for the Men in Blue across three formats over the last couple of years. His flop show on the England tour had even led to calls for his axing from the T20I squad, however, Kohli retained the faith of captain Rohit Sharma and the team management. 
 
Ahead of his much-awaited comeback in the blockbuster India-Pakistan clash on Sunday (August 28), Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan was asked if Kohli "doesn't instil fear in the minds of bowlers anymore". Shadab responded saying that teams are still a 'bit scared' when Kohli comes out to bat. 
 
"They (the former cricketers) don't play anymore, that's why they think that he doesn't instil fear. He is a legend of the game, he has performed quite a lot. Whenever he comes, you are a bit scared because he is a big player. We don't want him to play a long innings against us,” the Pakistan all-rounder told reporters.
