In a previous corruption scandal involving army supplies, senior Ukrainian officials were sacked from their positions in January after it was revealed in the media that a contract which was signed by the ministry for purchasing food products for soldiers had mentioned similarly overstated amounts.<br />

At that time, Reznikov had accepted that the anti-corruption services of his ministry had "failed in their task". <p>At least two people were killed and one other was injured after Russian shelling hit a cafe,&nbsp;said the officials in Kupiansk which is about six kilometres from the frontline. This comes after Ukrainian officials in the region had urged vulnerable residents living near the town to evacuate earlier this month amid reports of Russia ramping up attacks in a bid to recapture the territory in the region.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“According to the preliminary information of the medical staff, two people died in Podoly village as a result of the shelling, another one was wounded,” said Kharkiv governor Oleg Synegubov, on social media. He added, “The enemy hit a civilian target – a cafe, where local residents were spending the day.”&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Six injured in Russia after Ukrainian shelling</strong>&nbsp;</h2>

<p>In the Belgorod region bordering Ukraine, governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said that at least six people were injured after the attack in the village, Urazovo and accused Kyiv of firing “cluster munitions”. According to the Russian official, some residential buildings had been damaged.</p>

<p>“As a result of the cluster munition strike, 6 civilians sustained shrapnel wounds,” said Gladkov, in an update after initially reporting four people had been injured. He added, “One victim is in extremely serious condition.”&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Russia claims to have downed two drones</strong></h2>

<p>Russia said that its air defences shot down one drone approaching the capital and another drone near the village of Kupino, in the Belgorod region. Meanwhile, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that the drone was downed by the air defence systems over the Istra district which is some 50 kilometres west from the Kremlin.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Tonight, air defence forces destroyed a drone on approach to Moscow in the Istrinskii district,” said Sobyanin. He added, “Preliminarily, there were no casualties or damage. Emergency services are working on the site.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>The reported attack forced the suspension of flights in three major airports – Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo and Vnukovo – in Moscow, reported TASS.&nbsp;</p>

The training provided by the US will involve "several" pilots and "dozens" of personnel for maintaining the aircraft, stated Pentagon spokesman Pat Ryder.<br />

"These pilots will be conducting English language training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas in September prior to attending F-16 flying training in Arizona" the following month, he stated.</p>

<p>He added that the Arizona training will be held at Morris Air National Guard Base. The White House stated that United States President Joe Biden and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky talked about the training programme on Thursday.<br />

"President Biden reiterated the US commitment to support Ukraine's defence against Russian aggression for as long as it takes, and to hold Russia accountable for its actions," read a White House statement.<br />
<br />
The US programme will be expanding plans that their European allies have already announced for training Ukrainian personnel to fly the US-made F-16.<br />
<br />
Last week, Denmark and the Netherlands were informed by the United States that they could transfer their F-16s to Ukraine when the pilots of the country have been trained to use them.</p>

<p>Russia on Friday (August 25) said that Ukraine used 42 drones overnight to attack Russia-annexed Crimea, however, all its attempts were thwarted by Moscow's forces.<br />

"Nine UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) were destroyed... over the territory of the Republic of Crimea. 33 UAVs were suppressed by electronic warfare and crashed without reaching the target," wrote Russia's defence ministry on Telegram.<br />
<br />
The ministry did not specify whether they suffered any damage or had any casualties.</p>

<h2><strong>Missile attack in Kaluga</strong></h2>

<p>Earlier, Russia claimed that a missile attack carried out by Ukraine in the Kaluga region, which is southwest of Moscow, was thwarted by its air defences and many drones were also destroyed near Crimea, as no damage or casualties were reported.</p>

<p>A missile sent by Kyiv "was detected and destroyed by air defence systems over the territory of Kaluga region," said Moscow's defence ministry, in a statement.<br />

Kaluga is near Moscow which has been facing drone attacks almost on a daily basis, as per the Russian authorities.<br />

On Friday (August 25), the TASS news agency said that the authorities had closed the airspace above Moscow's Vnukovo and Domodedovo airports, citing aviation services and without specifically explaining why.<br />
<br />
"Several UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) were destroyed over the sea in the area of Cape Khersones" in Crimea, wrote Mikhail Razvozhayev, the Moscow-installed governor of Sevastopol on Telegram.<br />
<br />
The Cape is towards the southwest of the Crimea peninsula, close to Sevastopol, where the Black Sea fleet of Russia is present.</p>

<p>Russia and Ukraine continue to be involved in ceaseless drone attacks. Kremlin on Wednesday (August 23) said it had thwarted a Ukrainian drone attack in the capital city of Moscow but three people were killed in another strike in Russia near the Ukrainian&nbsp;border.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Belgorod&nbsp;Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov took to social media to inform about the drone strike.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Three civilians have been killed.&nbsp;The Ukrainian forces launched an explosive device through a drone when people were on the street," said&nbsp;Gladkov, who added the drone hit a&nbsp;sanatorium in a village.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the defence ministry claimed that its air defence forces had gunned down two drones hovering over Mozhaisky and Khimki districts in Moscow. A third appeared to be jammed and out of control as it smashed into a&nbsp;&nbsp;high-rise building under construction in a Moscow business district. The same district was hit on two occasions in three days, at the beginning of the month.</p>

<p>Experts say that the cancellation of the Black Sea grain deal by Moscow may have added more bitterness to both sides. Since the cancellation, Moscow has been hitting Ukrainian port cities while Kyiv targets Moscow and border areas using drones.</p>
