Canadian director David Cronenberg, the master of stomach-churning body-horror classics, was to be honoured at San Sebastian film festival Wednesday for a lifetime of work examining the dark side of the soul.

The sci-fi shockmeister, whose films include 'The Fly', 'Dead Ringers' and 'Crash', was to receive the honorary Donostia award at a gala in the northern Spanish city.

Earlier on Wednesday, the 79-year-old -- whose latest film 'Crimes of the Future' is a dystopian tale about a future where people undergo surgical alterations for the sake of art and sexual pleasure -- said his work was not about seeking to push spectators to the limits but to push himself.

"It's like I go on a creative journey exploring myself, my relationship with the world. I invent things and see how it feels... do they reveal some truth, something interesting, something entertaining," he told reporters at the festival.

When the film, starring Kristen Stewart, Lea Seydoux and Viggo Mortensen, premiered at Cannes in May, it divided the audience, sending many queasy viewers running for the exits but also winning a seven-minute standing ovation.

In June this year, Colombian singer Shakira and footballer Gerard Pique announced their separation after many reports about Gerand cheating on the 'Waka -Waka' singer came out. Now, after months of silence, Shakira is finally opening up about her split and how her music and children have helped her to get through the 'darkest' hours of her life.

During her exclusive interview with Elle magazine, when asked about how she's doing after her shocking split, the 'Addicted to you' singer said, ''This is really hard to talk about personally.''

''I feel like in this moment of my life, which is probably one of the most difficult, darkest hours of my life, music has brought light,'' the mommy of two added.

''Um, and yeah, it’s hard to talk about it, especially because I’m still going through it, and because I’m in the public eye and because our separation is not like a regular separation. And so it’s been tough not only for me, but also for my kids.''

Further, sharing how paparazzi have troubled her life ever since her breakup was officially announced, Shakira told the magazine, ''I have paparazzi camping outside, in front of my house, 24/7. And there’s not a place where I can hide from them with my kids, except for my own house. You know, we can’t take a walk in the park like a regular family or go have an ice cream or do any activity without the paparazzi following us. So it’s hard.''

In the decade-long relationship, Sharika and Gerard welcomed two sons — Milan Piqué Mebarak, 9, and Sasha Piqué Mebarak, 7. Talking further, the pop star opened up about how her kids are dealing with all this.

''I’ve tried to conceal the situation in front of my kids. I try to do it and protect them because that’s my number one mission in life. But then they hear things in school from their friends or they come across some disagreeable, unpleasant news online, and it just affects them, you know?''

Calling himself the godfather of Shah Rukh and Gauri's three kids, Karan asked Gauri about how tough it was for her as a mother and her family to deal with a situation where her son was falsely arrested in a drug case.
Reacting to this, Gauri said, ''I think nothing can be worse than what we've just been through, obviously, as a mother, as a parent. Aryan created headlines after he was arrested last year on October 3 by NCB during a raid at a party on a luxury cruise off the coast of Mumbai. He was charged for consumption and trafficking of illegal substances. Aryan had to spend a month in jail and was eventually released on bail. After months of investigation, earlier this year, he was given a clean chit by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).

Tiffany Haddish has been facing a lot of backlash ever since the child sexual abuse lawsuit was filed against her and comedian Aries Spears. Weeks later, the sister-brother duo has now dropped the lawsuit. But the shocking allegations made in the lawsuit have somewhere impacted Haddish and her career.

TMZ spotted Haddish in Los Angeles International Airport where they asked her about Jane Doe dropping the case. Reacting to which, she said, "I lost everything, all my gigs, going, everything, gone.''

Haddish, 42, added, ''I don't know I don't have a job, bro.''

A complaint was filed in September in the Superior Court of California by the siblings - Jane Doe, 22, and John Doe, 14, who accused both Tiffany and Spears of hiring them when they were minors and making them perform inappropriate acts on camera, via Daily Beast.

Reacting to which, she said, "I lost everything, all my gigs, going, everything, gone.'' Haddish, 42, added, ''I don't know I don't have a job, bro.'' A complaint was filed in September in the Superior Court of California by the siblings - Jane Doe, 22, and John Doe, 14, who accused both Tiffany and Spears of hiring them when they were minors and making them perform inappropriate acts on camera, via Daily Beast. James Cameron challenges you to guess 'Avatar The Way of Water' plot: 'Guarantee you won’t be able to predict' They also accused Spears and Tiffany of molesting John Doe, the younger brother of Jane, while they were filming some Nickelodeon sizzle reel, which was later published on different online platforms with the title, 'Through a Pedophile’s Eyes.'
Which books were banned?

As per Pen America's report titled "Banned in the USA: The Growing Movement to Censor Books in Schools", 5,049 schools and a whopping four million students were affected by these bans.

The 1,648 banned books include:
- 674 that had LGBTQ+ themes, 659 had people of colour as protagonists,
- 338 dealt with the issue of racism,
- 357 contained sexual content; like stories of teen pregnancy, sexual assault, abortions, sex, relationships and even "informational books about puberty"
- 161 had themes of rights and activism
- Also banned were 141 memoirs, biographies, autobiographies
- And 64 had religious minority characters.

Of these, around 75 per cent were fiction, 24 per cent non-fiction and the remaining 1 per cent poetry. Even picture books catering to the young audience weren't spared.

Who's behind these bans?

According to PEN America, at least 40 per cent of the 1,109 restrictions mentioned in the Index "are connected to either proposed or enacted legislation, or to political pressure exerted by state officials or elected lawmakers to restrict the teaching or presence of certain books or concepts."

The report blames 50 groups (300 if you count the local, and regional chapters) across the country for these bans. It also points out that 73 per cent or 262 of these groups have been formed since 2021.

However, parents and community groups also played a role.

"This movement to ban books is deeply undemocratic, in that it often seeks to impose restrictions on all students and families based on the preferences of those calling for the bans and notwithstanding polls that consistently show that Americans of all political persuasions oppose book bans," remarks the report.

It further points out that this movement has a variety of negative impacts: on students who are no longer represented, on teachers whose teachings are now dictated and on authors who have all but lost their right to tell stories their own way.

"We should heed this warning," the report states, noting that attempts to undermine civil liberties and undermine democratic norms continue, and that "the dynamics surrounding school book bans are a canary in the coal mine for the future of American democracy, public education, and free expression".

"The number of animals in the shelters that are just desperate to get out. The number of calls, emails, texts that we get here of people wanting to surrender their animals and it's just never-ending... It's heartbreaking," she added.

"I think quite a few people just wanted companionship so they went and got a pet, they got a companion, but they didn't quite understand what it takes to keep a pet," he remarked.

In Australia, caring for a pet is getting harder and more expensive. Compared to human food items, prices of pet products saw a 12 per cent rise in the first half of this year. Additionally, pet-friendly housing is also harder to come by.

Scientists suggest a stop-gap solution for 'refreezing' melting ice; will cost whopping $11 billion yearly

Recently, a Canadian family went viral as it was on a world tour to create memories before three of their four children would eventually lose their eyesight.

Canadian parents Edith Lemay and Sebastian Pelletier first noticed that their eldest daughter Mia had vision issues when she was three years old. Mia was later diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa, a rare genetic disorder that results in a loss of eyesight over time.

After a few years in 2019, the couple observed similar symptoms in their two boys, Laurent, 5, and Colin, 7. However, their second son cleared all the tests.

The mother said that since there is no cure for the illness or to halt the spread of the disorder, they cannot do anything for it. The parents predict that children will completely lose their visions by the time they reach midlife.

Lemay said that they could do just one thing for Mia and the other kids for them to create "visual memories," as the specialist recommended. The mother further said that instead of showing her an elephant in a book, they would take the children to actually see a real elephant.

She and her husband quickly started planning to spend a year touring the world with their children. The couple travelled frequently before becoming parents. Lemay says that there are good things to do at home, but nothing beats travelling.

The six-person family had a detailed trip, including visiting China and travelling to Russia by land, which was repeatedly postponed due to Covid travel restrictions. They left for Montreal in March 2022 without any plan. They started their journey in Namibia, where they were able to see elephants, zebras, and giraffes.

By 2033, Elon Musk's Tesla and its AI will be smarter than humans: Study

Lady Gaga has issued a tearful apology to all her fans after she was forced to cut short her Miami concert due to bad weather and thunderstorm.

The 'Miami' stop was the final concert of her Chromatica Ball world tour, which began on July 17.

Acknowledging her fans later via an emotional video message, Gaga broke down as she apologised to the concertgoers and explained the reason behind the abrupt ending.

In a video message posted on her Instagram handle, the 'Rain on me' singer said, “We really tried to finish the show tonight in Miami, but we couldn’t, because even when the rains sort of stopped there was lightning that was striking right down to the ground so close to us.'' via NYP.

Taking further, Gaga added that she always wanted to be 'hardcore bad b–ch' but her fan's safety will always be her first priority and it was a ''healthy decision'' to take at that moment.

Gaga said, “I know that for a really long time I’ve always wanted to be that hardcore bad b–ch, but what I really want is to also be responsible and loving, and I don’t know what I would do if anything happened to anybody in the audience, or to any member of my crew or my band or my dancers.”

Gaga said, “I know that for a really long time I’ve always wanted to be that hardcore bad b–ch, but what I really want is to also be responsible and loving, and I don’t know what I would do if anything happened to anybody in the audience, or to any member of my crew or my band or my dancers.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lady Gaga (@ladygaga) × In the separate apology shared on her IG account, Gaga wrote how badly she wanted to sing her superhit song 'Rain on me' in the rain. ''I’m sorry I couldn’t finish the show it was too dangerous the lightning was being unpredictable and changing moment by moment, I love you. Look, for years some of you have called me “mother monster,” in my heart I knew it was better to keep you safe, '' ''This was the greatest tour of my life and I will cherish this moment forever—it took a long time for me to heal, but I did. Sure, OF COURSE, I wanted to sing rain on me for you in the rain. “I’d rather be dry, but at least I’m alive”—I guess somehow I knew this moment would happen and I am so grateful to you, my dancers, my band the whole crew everyone my family and friends. Safety first. Love you. Thank you for the flowers and the cheers and for understanding. Life matters, '' she wrote in the caption of her post. The conversations keep bubbling on Hotstar Specials 'Koffee With Karan' Season 7’s twelfth episode as a brand-new trio graces the couch. This time, the show’s iconic host Karan Johar welcomes Gauri Khan, who returns to the couch after 17 years. She is joined by close friends Maheep Kapoor and Bhavana Pandey, as they mark their debut on the show. Ringing in all the elements of candid, humour and wit, the three women spill the beans on airport looks and Bollywood parties. Shah Rukh Khan has always been a gentleman, not just on screen, but off-screen too. Karan Johar shares, in the latest episode, how during parties at home, as a gracious host, he always walks a guest to their car. Gauri Khan reveals how this ‘precious’ habit sometimes annoys her.
Prince Charles has visited India many times in his life. But, this visit is also very memorable because of Padmini Kolhapure, who greeted His Royal Highness with a kiss, yes!

Charles, who was Britain's most eligible bachelor back in the '80s, visited the set of 'Ahista Ahista' and was greeted with a warm welcome from the entire team. Later, when he was interacting with the team, Padmini, who was only 16 years old, got so excited that she quickly hugged and kissed Prince on his cheeks.
