In the streets of the Italian town of Bolzano exists a peculiar menace which has now forced the authorities to take drastic measures. The unwelcome smell of dog poo has prompted the authorities to mandate DNA tests for all canines, requiring owners of an estimated 45,000 dogs to get them registered in a database managed by authorities. In the so-called ‘poo crackdown,’ police will refer to the database to nab the offenders who shy away from cleaning their pet’s poo, with also imposing fines close to $1,000.

The law required the residents of the mountainous Trentino-Alto Adige region to undertake a DNA test for their pets by the end of December 2023. However, only 5,000 owners have complied. Now, the authorities have strictly asked for compliance in the matter by the end of March. Owners who fail to register will have to face hefty fines, according to Paolo Zambotto, director of Bolzano’s veterinary department.

Dog owners voice anger

The law has been met with concerns by dog owners, especially from those who sincerely clean up their pet poo but will have to pay a €65 fee for the test. Some doubt the efficiency of the initiative regarding its cost and management and whether it will take into account the menace coming from stray dogs and dogs owned by tourists.

Apart from dog owners, animal rights groups have also opposed the idea, calling it an ‘unjust law.’ Earlier, they had filed a petition to scrap the law before December 31. “The most interesting thing is that many people who don’t have dogs signed the petition,” Filippo Maturi, president of Assopets, an association for the protection of animal owners, was quoted as saying by a local news outlet.

In a major decision, the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) of India on Tuesday (Jan 16) removed Aadhaar card from the list of documents acceptable as date of birth proof (DoB).
Karan Johar ended season 8 of Koffee with Karan on the most exciting note! For the final episode of the season, Karan invited the internet's most loved person, Orry.

Karan and Orry's episode was full of laughs, fun discussions, and many unexpected things that no one saw coming.

Orry, whose real name is Orhan Awatramani, recently took some time out of his busy schedule to sit with the very famous director Karan Johar on the 'infamous' couch. While he went on to speak about his very famous public life, his doppelgangers, and multiple affairs on the show, Orry also revealed the name of the person responsible for all his fame. And guess who the person is? Boney Kapoor.

Saying that Boney Kapoor was the first person who introduced him to the paparazzi, Orry told Johar, “If you want to blame someone, blame Boney Kapoor. Blame him. Because the first time I got the limelight, it was his fault. I was attending his daughter’s birthday, and when I entered the gate, the media was like, click, click, click… And Boney uncle, being the gentleman that he is, had come down to receive me.”

''I was so shy, I was shaking. I told him, ‘Boney uncle, they were calling my name’. And he was like, ‘Did you pose?’ And I said I didn’t. He grabbed me by the wrist and flung me in front of the media, and said, ‘Yeh Orry hai, iska photo lo, yeh mera bachcha hai (This is Orry, he’s like my son, take his picture)’. The match was always there, and so was the gunpowder, and Boney just lit it. And now I’m on Koffee, so I should write him a cheque," he further said.

Orry also went on to reveal to the host that he's currently dating five people.

I just want to get married at some point to someone really, really rich and be comfortable and cushy’. The video, shared by Instagram page Billionaire's Life Style, has amassed over four million views. The video begins with a tiger chasing a man inside a swanky UAE home.
Postponed by four months because of Hollywood strikes, the Emmy Awards will finally celebrate television's best and brightest on Monday, with the last season of HBO's Succession tipped to scoop the night's top prizes.

Emmys 2023 predictions: Succession set to dominate this year's award night

An Arctic blast is poised to bring frigid nights to Britain next week, potentially colder than Iceland. A northerly wind is expected to bring in cold Arctic air across the UK, prompting the UK Health Security Agency to issue cold health warnings. The Met Office has also implemented yellow severe weather warnings.

While initial snow and ice accumulation will be concentrated in Scotland and Northern Ireland, with up to 10 centimetres in low-lying areas, the rest of the UK will also face freezing conditions and later, snow. Temperatures may drop significantly, potentially falling below those in Iceland.

The Met Office forecasts temperatures around -7ºC in Reykjavik on Wednesday (Jan 17), while WX Charts predict parts of northern Scotland could plummet as low as -12ºC.

So, I remember going to Dinoo (filmmaker Dinesh Vijan) sir’s office and asked him if he had any work and he said that he’ll keep in touch. I was not expecting anything,'' Agastya said. Adding further, he said: “Two days later I got a call from him and he asked me to come to his office. I was very excited and asked him what it is for and he said, ‘I can’t tell you’, I asked who is it with? And he said, ‘I can’t tell you’. When I arrived, I was sitting at the office really nervous because it was just me fresh into this industry. I was sitting alone in the conference hall… 20-30 minutes pass and then Sriram Raghavan walks in. Then I figured out what the story was and it was with him.''
A UK woman was sentenced to 12 years in jail after she was found guilty of poisoning her own child, necessitating a liver transplant. The Birmingham Crown Court ruled that the mom poisoned her child with paracetamol and codeine at home as well as at two different hospitals.

What happened?

It was on September 9, 2016, when the woman took her child to a walk-in centre complaining of high temperature and difficulty breathing. However, the health of the child further deteriorated and had to be taken to two different hospitals for treatment.

After showing improvement initially, the child fell so ill that an urgent liver transplant had to be carried out. Doctors described this situation as "acute, unexpected and unusual," as quoted by The Mirror.

How did the mom get caught?

The anomaly in the child’s health behaviour led to suspicion among doctors, after which an investigation was launched. Shockingly, it was revealed that the mum had been administering paracetamol and codeine to her child in both hospitals, hiding it from doctors, causing them to need the urgent liver transplant.

According to hospital records, the child was given the maximum recommended doses of paracetamol there was "no plausible reason for codeine being present in their system".

If you're having trouble falling asleep because your mind is too busy, there's a simple trick called the 'cognitive shuffle' that might help. Sleep is really important for your body and mind to rest, and not getting enough sleep can be bad for your health. Many people need around seven to nine hours of sleep each night, but most of us can only manage to get six hours of sleep, which can lead to several cognitive problems.

There are different reasons why people might not sleep well, like being sick, having a baby, or just having too many thoughts in their head about work, relationships, money, or other life issues.

What is cognitive shuffle method?

If you find it hard to relax when you go to bed because your mind keeps racing, you can try the 'cognitive shuffle.' It's a quick and simple way to trick your brain and stop it from thinking about all your worries.

Also read: Man falls into crack in Earth, prompting search and rescue operation

Here's how you can do it: Before bed, spend about five minutes thinking about random things that are easy to picture in your mind.

These things should be unrelated, like potatoes, a bus, or a violin. This should make your brain tired and help you stop thinking about the things that are keeping you awake, so you can hopefully fall asleep easily.

Other factors to consider

There are also other things you can do to sleep better. One tip is to make good habits during the day, like getting some light right after you wake up. Open your curtains or turn on a light if it's still dark. This tells your brain to stop making the sleep hormone melatonin, so you feel less drowsy.

Also read: Man falls into crack in Earth, prompting search and rescue operation Here's how you can do it: Before bed, spend about five minutes thinking about random things that are easy to picture in your mind. These things should be unrelated, like potatoes, a bus, or a violin. This should make your brain tired and help you stop thinking about the things that are keeping you awake, so you can hopefully fall asleep easily. Other factors to consider There are also other things you can do to sleep better. One tip is to make good habits during the day, like getting some light right after you wake up. Open your curtains or turn on a light if it's still dark. This tells your brain to stop making the sleep hormone melatonin, so you feel less drowsy.
