Johnny Depp's 'wife beater' libel case can go ahead, UK judge rules

Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, felt 'unprotected' by the British royal family while she was pregnant with her son Archie, according to London High Court documents filed as part of her legal action against a tabloid newspaper.

Meghan, the wife of Queen Elizabeth's grandson Prince Harry, is suing publisher Associated Newspapers over articles its Mail on Sunday newspaper printed last year which included parts of a handwritten letter she had sent to her estranged father, Thomas Markle, in August 2018.

Markle and his daughter have not spoken since he pulled out of appearing at her wedding to Harry three months earlier after undergoing heart surgery and following news he had staged photos with a paparazzi photographer.

The new agency justified publishing the letter by saying five unnamed friends of Meghan, who gave birth to Archie in May 2019, had put her version of events in interviews with the U.S. magazine People.

"The Claimant had become the subject of a large number of false and damaging articles by the UK tabloid media, specifically by the Defendant, which caused tremendous emotional distress and damage to her mental health," her lawyers said in a submission to the High Court.

"As her friends had never seen her in this state before, they were rightly concerned for her welfare, specifically as she was pregnant, unprotected by the Institution, and prohibited from defending herself."

Indian-Michelin star chef Vikas Khanna is currently working day and night to feed needy people amid COVID-19 lockdown. Khanna's work has spread far and wide and the chef was recently interviewed by the BBC about his initiative. And while the chef has been lauded for his good work these past months, it's one of his answers to the BBC anchor that won the internet.

During the interview, the anchor referred to India's poor and asked, ''You've cooked for the Obamas, you've been on a TV show with Gordon Ramsay. But it wasn’t always that way, was it? You're not from a rich family. So, I dare say, you understand how precarious it can be in India?"
To which, the chef replied in the kindest way possible, "I understand, but my sense of hunger didn't come from India so much, because I was born and raised in Amritsar, and we have a huge community kitchen where everyone gets fed. But my sense of hunger came from New York when I was struggling at the very bottom, and it was not easy for a brown kid who came to America with the dream of winning a Michelin star.".

He added, "My sense of hunger came from New York, when I used to be at Grand Central, sleeping around. This is also posted 9/11, so it was not easy for us to get jobs".

The live-action movie was earlier slated to hit big screens on July 24, as per the reports, the movie will now hit theatres on August 21. ''While the pandemic has changed our release plans for 'Mulan' and we will continue to be flexible as conditions require, it has not changed our belief in the power of this film and its message of hope and perseverance,” said Disney’s co-chairman and chief creative officer Alan Horn and co-chairman Alan Bergman. This change comes after Warner Bros decided to postpone the release of the Christopher Nolan sci-fic `Tenet` for the second time, from July 31st to August 12th. $ 200 million worth film 'Mulan' revolves around the story of a Chinese protagonist portrayed by Liu Yifei, and is directed by Niki Caro. The increased number of cases of Coronavirus in the USA, may lead theatres to stay closed.

Disney's 'Mulan’ release date postponed again, will now hit theatres in August

''Our endeavour is to create something which leaves behind a lasting impact and 'Sufiyum Sujatayum' is a film made exactly on those lines. The theme of the movie is one that hasn’t been explored very often. The story is nuanced and complex, yet underlines one simple, universal truth – that love knows no rationality or bounds'', Vijay Babu said.

"The film is an innocent love story, where love is unburdened by prejudices and discrimination. The movie is a drama and narrated with a lot of sensitivity and honesty. I had a great time working on the movie, it was challenging to work with some very brilliant colleagues and crew members. I'm really looking forward to the audience's response. I hope they get immersed in the world of Sufi and Sujata like I did and I hope everyone makes their own special connection to the characters and the story.''

With the movie releasing on Amazon Prime Video we are glad that the film will reach a global audience allowing them to revel in Malayalam cinema''. ''The upcoming movie is a special film for me.
Residents of the Pakistani city of Lahore have erected statues to commemorate a medieval Turkish leader, a sign of the growing popularity, and cultural impact, of a television series imported from Turkey depicting the origins of the Ottoman Empire.

The series, Ertugrul Gazi, which ran in Turkey until 2019, is loosely based on the story of a 13th century nomadic Turkic tribal leader who confronted Mongols, Crusaders and Byzantine rulers in what is now Syria and Turkey.

Two statues of Ertugrul have been put up in a residential area of the city. Muhammad Shahzad Cheema, the head of a private housing society, commissioned a likeness of Ertugrul, sword in hand on a rearing horse.
"The statue is a reminder of our love for the Ottoman Sultanate, and the jihad which Ertugrul waged which brought us (Muslims) respect in the whole world," Cheema said.

Pakistani broadcaster PTV began airing Urdu-dubbed episodes of the show during Ramadan a few weeks ago, and it has since become the most-watched programme ever aired by the outlet.

No television show has been able to stir Pakistan the way Ertugrul Gazi has, PTV Managing Director Aamer Manzoor told Reuters. "People feel that it is the Turkish play of Game of Thrones."

More than 58 million people viewed the first episode on PTV's YouTube channel in two months, and the entire show has had more than 250 million views, Manzoor said. Turkish state television waived royalties for the show.

Cheema told Reuters people were coming “from far and wide” to take selfies with his statue, installed in a square locals plan to rename after Ertugrul.

The show also got a ringing endorsement from Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, who said it would help combat 'vulgarity' from Hollywood and Bollywood and promote family culture.

Kristen Bell will no longer lend her voice for the character 'Molly' in the animated series 'Central Park'.

On Wednesday, Bell took to her Instagram to announce she will no longer voice Molly in Apple TV+’s animated musical comedy series.

"This is a time to acknowledge our acts of complicity," Bell wrote. "Here is one of mine. Playing the character of Molly on Central Park shows a lack of awareness of my pervasive privilege. Casting a mixed-race character with a white actress undermines the specificity of the mixed-race and Black American experience. It was wrong and we, on the Central Park team, are pledging to make it right. I am happy to relinquish this role to someone who can give a much more accurate portrayal and I will commit to learning, growing and doing my part for equality and inclusion."
