Mohammad Reza Shajarian, who revived Iranian classical music and became a symbol for the opposition after a wave of unrest in 2009, has died in a Tehran hospital at the age of 80, state television said on Thursday.

Fans gathered outside the hospital in the capital Tehran where Shajarian died following a long battle with cancer. Videos on social media later showed the gathering turn into street protests as police moved in to disperse the crowd.

A classical Iranian composer and singer, Shajarian tried to stay out of politics even though he initially sang in support of the movement that toppled the country`s last monarch in 1979 and ushered in the Islamic Republic.

But in 2009, when the government cracked down violently on protests against the disputed election that gave a second term to hardline president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Shajarian demanded that state media refrain from playing his music.

Shajarian called on authorities to lay down their guns and talk and listen to the protesters. The clerical leadership retaliated by banning him from holding concerts and releasing albums.

But this appeared to only increase his appeal. Fans gathered at night outside his hospital this week to sing one of his most popular songs.

Late on Thursday, videos on social media showed police using batons against fans after they chanted slogans against state media, which had boycotted Shajarian in the past decade, and clerical leaders. "Let him go, you have no honour," chanted fans in one video, protesting arrests by police forces. The authenticity of the videos could not be verified by Reuters.

Arts and literature hold a special place in Iran, where poetry is read at family gatherings and guests break out in the songs of their favourite composers whose music often derives from medieval and mystic poetry.

Traditional Persian music dating to the 7th century was overtaken by pop music from the 1960s. But after the 1979 Islamic Revolution pop tunes were banned with only Persian and Western classical music allowed.

"Shajarian was a member of a cadre of young musicians who in the late 1970s revolutionised Persian classical music by transforming it into an art that spoke directly to the socio-political issues of the time," said Nahid Siamdoust, author of 'Soundtrack of the Revolution: The Politics of Music in Iran'.

"These musicians ... created some of the most memorable songs of the revolution," she added. But the revolution was not kind to most music. "Even musicians like Shajarian found their artistic freedom curtailed," said Siamdoust. Shajarian is survived by his wife, Katayoun, as well as three daughters and two sons.

With shooting for television series resuming in British Columbia after COVID-19 induced hiatus, productions for CW`s `Riverdale` and `Batwoman` series have also resumed in Vancouver.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. TV is also back to shooting the dramedy `Maid` for Netflix in Victoria, B.C. WBTV's 'The Flash', 'Supergirl' and 'DC's Legends of Tomorrow' were supposed to begin filming last week in Vancouver, but are still on pause for now.

The company's 'Superman and Lois' and 'Kung Fu' aim to begin filming next week, and are still on track to do so - but because of the questions about how much volume the testing system can take, they might not.

Tests are performed three times a week, and sources told Variety that the production shutdowns could happen again if the testing glut causes a show to not get results for the cast and crew back in time. The studios have lost millions of dollars by keeping these shows idle -- losses that insurance does not cover.

In British Columbia, coronavirus has been contained ably, which is why the province opened up for shooting in June.

With that success in mind, one Vancouver producer expressed frustration to Variety about U.S.-based studios ignoring what has worked well in the province: "The government here said don`t do asymptomatic testing.

They came and did it anyway. It predictably didn`t work, because our government, who has been successful in fighting the virus, is prioritizing the testing they deem medically necessary."The studios, meanwhile, have been trying to work with the lab -- and are possibly seeking back-up labs -- to avoid future backlogs.

They were then guided to the New York Street area of the lot, where they were given swag bags of SNL-branded merchandise and taken to a drive-thru red carpet for a photo opportunity under a 'Live from New York... it's Saturday night!' sign.
It translates to: "He told me ''Amit ji you are ignoring me' !", "He is a friend, I thought I should answer - so I said: Brother, after working 12 - 15 hours, only get snoring time, not ignoring" !!!! (along with laughing with teary eyes emoji). View this post on Instagram उन्होंने मुझसे कहा ' अमित जी you are ignoring me ' ! मित्र हैं मेरे , सोचा उत्तर दे दूँ - तो कहा मैंने : "भैया , 12 - 15 घंटे काम करने के बाद , केवल snoring का समय मिलता है , ignoring का नहीं " !!!! 🤣 A post shared by Amitabh Bachchan (@amitabhbachchan) on Oct 4, 2020 at 12:22am PDT × Alongside the post, the 'Sholay' star shared a collage of 2 pictures- one that featured the star sticking his tongue on his upper lip, as he posed for the camera, on the other hand, the second one is a smiling picture.
Even 007 can't save a dismal year for Hollywood. The new James Bond movie, 'No Time To Die', on Friday became the latest blockbuster to be pushed into next year as the movie industry struggles to get back to business amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Bond`s exit leaves 'Wonder Woman 1984', currently set to debut in December on Christmas Day, as one of the few big movies still on the 2020 slate. Other big-budget flicks, including Marvel`s 'Black Widow' and a 'Top Gun' sequel, also have been delayed until next year.

'No Time to Die', from MGM and Comcast Corp`s Universal Pictures, originally was set to hit the big screen in April 2020 before being delayed until November. The new date is April 2, 2021. A 'Fast & Furious' sequel scheduled for that date was moved to May 28.

The movie studios and producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said the Bond film was delayed "in order to be seen by a worldwide theatrical audience."

"We understand the delay will be disappointing to our fans but we now look forward to sharing 'No Time To Die' next year," they said on the official James Bond Twitter account. The decision follows disappointing efforts to get Americans back into multiplexes after the pandemic shuttered cinemas worldwide in March. While AMC Entertainment, Cineworld Plc and others have reopened many locations, crowds have been thin, and theaters in the major markets of New York and Los Angeles remain shut.

"Studios are having to continually confront the hard facts of a very challenging marketplace," said Comscore senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian. But he added that the Bond delay showed that producers believe theaters were the 'preferred destination' for the film. Some movies have skipped theaters and headed straight to streaming services.

The Bond franchise is one of the movie world`s most lucrative, with 2015's 'Spectre' raking in $880 million at the box office worldwide, while 'Skyfall' in 2012 grossed more than $1 billion globally. 'No Time to Die', which cost an estimated $200 million to produce, marks actor Daniel Craig's last outing as agent 007.

Camila Cabello shuts down Shawn Mendes breakup rumours

American reality TV star Kristen Jenner and Kourtney Kardashian may have some legal drama to keep up with. According to a news agency, Jenner's former security guard Marc McWilliams has sued them for alleged sexual harassment, fostering a hostile work environment, racial and gender discrimination, wrongful termination, and retaliation.

David Shield Security, Armor Protection Services Inc. are also listed as a defendant in the lawsuit, seeking damages. Jenner's attorney Marty Singer told the news agency in a statement that Jenner (64) and Kardashian (41) strictly deny the "completely false claims made by former security guard Marc McWilliams".

McWilliams, who is believed to have worked for them in 2017, claimed in court documents obtained by an agency on Wednesday (local time) that starting May that year, he "became subject to a pattern of unwanted and unwelcome sexual advances and otherwise harassing misconduct" from Jenner.

He alleged that nothing happened after he registered his uncomfort with Jenner and his supervisors at Shield Security. He claimed that he had complained to human resources between May 2017 and September 2018, but he was "suspended" from working alongside Jenner in that same month.

He, however, continued to provide security to Kardashian, before he said he was "terminated" from Jenner's protection team. Marty Singer, Jenner's attorney, told the news agency that his "absurd allegations are clearly fabricated and are contrary to easily confirmed facts".

"Kris never acted inappropriately towards him". Singer further claimed: "The security company stopped assigning McWilliams to work there after the guard was repeatedly caught sleeping in his car on the job. Significantly, McWilliams never made any complaints to his employer about Kris until contriving this ludicrous claim a year later."

"Although Kourtney is named in the suit, she is not accused of doing anything improper, nor did she do so. When Kris and Kourtney defeat this frivolous lawsuit, they intend to immediately sue McWilliams and his attorneys for malicious prosecution," he said.
