India went down to Temba Bavuma-led South Africa by four wickets to lose the second T20I after conceding the series opener, on June 09. On Sunday evening (June 12), the Rishabh Pant-led hosts locked horns with the Proteas for the second encounter, of the five-match series, with an aim to level the scoreline 1-1.

However, Pant & Co. were no match to the visiting side who continued their winning run versus India across formats in the calendar year. Being asked to bat first, India rode on Ishan Kishan's 34, Shreyas Iyer's 40 and Dinesh Karthik's unbeaten 30 to post 148-6. In reply, SA was 29-3 before Heinrich Klaasen's 46-ball 81 propelled them to a four-wicket win, with 10 balls to spare.

After the clash, former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer opined on Pant's captaincy. Jaffer took note of Pant's IPL captaincy, where he leads the Delhi Capitals (DC), and stated that the 24-year-old panics easily when the situation gets intense in the middle.

In an ESPNCricinfo show, the ex-Indian opener and Punjab Kings (PBKS) batting coach was asked whether Pant changes his plans and strategies too easily. To this, he agreed and pointed out, "Yes, we saw something similar in the IPL as well. I feel the more he captains, the better he'll get. But, yes, at this stage, I think when the match gets tight, he panics a bit."

Pant was criticised for not using Yuzvendra Chahal's full quota of overs in the series opener loss, in New Delhi, India, and in the second T20I, he was lashed out for over-relying on Chahal. Even in IPL 2022, the young wicketkeeper made several errors in judgments as a skipper, including poor usage of DRS and rotation of bowlers (along with dropping some crucial catches), as DC didn't qualify for the playoffs.

At the post-match presentation, Pant said, "We were 10-15 runs short. Bhuvi and the fast bowlers bowled well in the first 7-8 overs. But after that we weren't up to the mark. In the second half we needed wickets, but we couldn't get those wickets. They (Klaasen and Bavuma) actually batted really well. We could have bowled better, hope we improve in the next game. We need to win all the remaining three games now."

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) had a good IPL 2022 edition. Being one of the two debutants, the KL Rahul-led side qualified for the playoffs before bowing out in the Eliminator, losing to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), but saw many players raise their hands to ensure Lucknow's good start in their maiden IPL season.

Among their many top-performers, Mohsin Khan made a mark for Rahul & Co. The pacer played only nine games, however, he returned with 14 wickets at an economy rate of 5.96. In fact, among all bowlers who have bowled more than 30 overs in the 15th season, the 23-year-old Mohsin's economy was only second to Kolkata Knight Riders' Sunil Narine (5.57).

Recently, Mohsin's coach Badruddin Siddiqui, who was also worked with Mohammed Shami earlier, recalled the latter's words on the LSG pacer. "When the auction was going on, I was sitting with Shami in his farmhouse. He was picked, and so was Mohsin. And then, we were having a conversation about him. Shami told me, 'If you just give me four months with him, I'll make him India's best all-rounder'. He is a very good batsman. And even KL Rahul said earlier that he has a good understanding of the game,” Siddiqui revealed during a conversation on Sports Yaari.

I'll make him India's best all-rounder: LSG star's coach recalls Mohammed Shami's words

Hardik Pandya's captaincy stocks have risen ever since he impressed one and all with his leadership qualities in the IPL 2022 edition. In what was the star all-rounder's first-ever season as captain, the 28-year-old made a huge mark by leading the debutants Gujarat Titans (GT) to their maiden title, beating Rajasthan Royasl (RR) with ease in the final.

Hardik's calm and composed nature on the field, leading the charge in all departments despite additional responsibility and some tactical decisions stood out as many former cricketers and experts of the game are impressed with his game-reading abilities as captain. Ahead of the India-South Africa T20Is, where Hardik has been promoted as the vice-captain after Rishabh Pant replaced an injured KL Rahul to become the new stand-in skipper, former off-spinner Harbhajan Singh made a huge claim on Hardik.

His intent and positive captaincy are signs that he can lead Team India in the future," Harbhajan told PTI in an interview.

'He can lead Team India in future' - Harbhajan Singh lavishes praise on Hardik Pandya's leadership

India and South Africa will lock horns with each other in what is expected to be a mouth-watering five-match T20I series with the opening game to be played on Thursday evening (June 09). While Temba Bavuma-led Proteas are a strong squad, India have been hit with several injury concerns after their famed trio -- regular captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah -- were rested.

Ahead of the first T20I, news broke out from the Indian camp that regular vice-captain and stand-in skipper KL Rahul has been injured, along with wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav. Hence, Rishabh Pant is all set to don the captain's hat for the first time ever for Team India whereas the 28-year-old IPL-winning skipper Hardik Pandya will be his deputy for the series. Thus, India have lots riding on them to beat Proteas and also keep their unbeaten streak alive in the shortest format (currently at 12). If India win the series opener, they will create a world record of winning the most consecutive T20Is.

However, the 33-year-old Kohli still added another feather to his illustrious hat by reaching the 200-million followers on the social media platform Instagram.

Kohli, thus, also became the first Indian to hit the 200-million followers mark on the photo-blogging site.

The former Indian captain himself took to Instagram to thank his supporters for helping him reach the staggering mark. "200 mil strong. Thanks for all your support insta fam," Kohli wrote along with a montage of his posts on the popular platform.

Umran Malik had made heads turn throughout the IPL 2022 edition. His raw pace, deadly yorkers and some tidy spells changed the complexion of the game in favour of Kane Williamson-led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) before the one-time winners' group stage exit.

Umran, however, returned with as many as 22 wickets and was the fourth-highest wicket-taker, overall, in the 15th season of the IPL, which ended with Gujarat Titans (GT) being crowned the eventual winners. Further, the Jammu & Kashmir speedster bowled the fastest ball of the match in every game SRH featured in and held the record for bowling the quickest ball of the season (157 kph) before Lockie Ferguson went past him in the final (by clocking 157.3 kph).

After a memorable IPL 2022 season, Umran is now part of India's T20I squad for the home series versus South Africa, which gets underway on June 09 in New Delhi. Before that, the 22-year-old revealed how SRH's bowling coach and legendary SA pacer Steyn had predicted his India call-up before IPL 2022.

"When I got selected for India, Dale sir (Steyn) was with me in the team bus. We were going for the match. Pace sensation Umran Malik reveals how Dale Steyn had predicted his India call-up before IPL 2022

Mohammed Siraj has soon become one of India's main pacers in the red-ball format. After a good IPL 2020, Siraj soon made his Test debut for India during their historic 2020/21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy versus Australia Down Under.

During the second Test, at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Siraj received his maiden Test cap and recently recalled what thought went inside him as he missed his late father, who had passed away during the Australia tour.

Speaking to Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) official website, the speedster recalled how his father's health had deteriorated during IPL 2020, however, his family did not inform him about it.

"It was really tough for me. My dad was ill during the IPL too. But family members hadn't told me that the matter was serious. I got to know about his condition when I landed in Australia," Siraj was quoted as saying by RCB's website.

"There was Covid-19 protocol as well. We had to quarantine. When we had our practice, I got to know about dad's death. My mother made me strong during that period.
Team India already have one eye on the forthcoming T20 World Cup, set to be held in Australia later this year, after their disastrous run in the last year's edition.
The 1983 World Cup-winning skipper Kapil feels that Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli have the potential to go at a strike rate of 150-160, however, they restrict themselves and often get out while accelerating at the latter half of the innings, putting pressure on the rest of the batters. Kapil also went on to add that if they can't change their approach in a fast-moving game, they should be replaced by fresh faces.

"They have a big reputation and there's huge pressure on them, which shouldn't be the case. You have to play fearless cricket. All of these are players who can hit at a strike rate of 150-160.
Former Indian opener-turned-commentator feels that nobody really remembers the 50-over matches anymore and called for changes to be made in the ODI format. Tests, ODIs or T20Is? Former Indian opener picks the format which is 'most boring and meaningless'

Hardik Pandya impressed one and all with his all-round abilities and captaincy in the recently-concluded IPL 2022 edition, leading the debutants Gujarat Titans (GT) to their maiden championship. With Hardik's stunning comeback at the competitive level, the 28-year-old is set to also return for Team India in their forthcoming home T20Is versus South Africa, starting on June 09.

Hardik's fitness and all-round abilities were keenly observed by many during IPL 15. The 15th season was Hardik's return to competitive cricket after a long time, having been on a break following the 2021 T20 World Cup due to fitness concerns. While he did bowl at regular intervals, picking eight wickets, and amassed 487 runs for Gujarat, many feel he is now ready to make a comeback in the white-ball formats and slowly reappear in the red-ball side. However, former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri wants Hardik to only stick to T20Is till this year's World Cup, set to be held in Australia later this year.

'He is a four-dimensional player now' - Ex-India stumper lauds Hardik Pandya after his memorable IPL 2022

India's tour of Australia, in 2020/21, was a memorable affair for the visitors. While India lost the ODIs, 2-1, they won the T20Is, by the same margin, before the action moved to the four-match Test series Down Under. After a disastrous performance in the first Test, in Adelaide, India was without regular skipper Virat Kohli -- who missed the remainder of the series -- due to paternity leave, however, Ajinkya Rahane-led India came from behind to win the series 2-1 in a historic fashion.

India battled various obstacles to win the series 2-1. While many regulars got injured, India also faced racial discrimination when Md Siraj was fielding near the boundary ropes during the third and penultimate Test at the SCG, Sydney. Recently, Ajinkya Rahane recalled the conversation he had with the umpires when the situation was blown out of proportion with Siraj being repeatedly racially abused.

"When Siraj again came to me (on the fourth day), I told the umpires (Paul Reiffel and Paul Wilson) that (they) need to take action and we won't play till then," Rahane said as per an ESPNCricinfo report on the sidelines of an event in Mumbai on Wednesday (June 02).

"The umpires said that you can't stall the game and can walk out if you want. We said that we are here to play and not sit in the dressing room and insisted on getting the abusers out of the ground. It was important to support our colleague given the situation he had been through. What happened in Sydney was completely wrong," he opined.

Rahane further opened up on the big issue of racism and said, "I don't think it has anything to do with a particular section of people in a particular country. Everywhere people do believe that they belong to a majority sort of a thing and they will have their way. Everywhere people do believe that they belong to a majority sort of a thing and they will have their way. And I think racism is one tip of it, where people believe that is a way of differentiation with someone. The only solution is better parenting and better awareness."
Virender Sehwag remains a big name in world cricket. Sehwag was part of the golden era in Indian cricket where he rubbed shoulders and shared the dressing room with some superstar cricketers such as Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni, etc.

Sehwag represented India in 104 Tests, 251 ODIs and 19 T20Is and was part of India's glorious wins in the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup. However, Sehwag wouldn't have played the 50-over World Cup in 2011 had it not been for Sachin Tendulkar. The former Indian opener recently revealed he was taken aback by his ODI omission, during the 2007/08 CB series which India won under MS Dhoni, and Tendulkar's advice helped him from rethinking about his retirement from the 50-over format.

"In 2008 when we were in Australia, this question (of retirement) came to my mind. I made a comeback in the Test series, scored a 150. In the ODIs, I couldn't score that much in three-four attempts. So MS Dhoni dropped me from the playing XI then the thought of quitting ODI cricket came to my mind. I thought I will continue playing only Test cricket," Sehwag told Cricbuzz.

The IPL 2022 edition concluded on May 29 with the Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans (GT) winning their maiden title in their debut season.
Among the veteran Indian players, the likes of Dinesh Karthik and Umesh Yadav were successful for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), respectively. Thus, former Indian off-spinner -- who was mighty impressed with the Indian speedsters -- lavished huge praise on Umesh for a fantastic run in IPL 15.

The BCCI selection committee announced an 18-member Team India T20I squad for the forthcoming five-match series versus South Africa at home. In the KL Rahul-led Indian team, many regulars such as all-format skipper Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah have been rested whereas some seniors have missed out while other key players such as Suryakumar Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja are injured.

Shikhar Dhawan was one notable omission in the young squad. While the senior player has been out of the T20I side since being dropped from the squad for the last year's World Cup, many thought a comeback was on the cards for him after amassing 460 runs for Punjab Kings (PBKS) in 14 league stage matches. Nonetheless, the selectors preferred youngsters in place of Dhawan as Ishan Kishan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, etc. made the cut. As per a report in InsideSport, Dhawan was informed about his non-selection before the team was announced by head coach Rahul Dravid.

“Shikhar has been a great servant of Indian cricket for over a decade. But in T20s, you have to give chances to youngsters who have been doing well. Rahul had to make the tough call and we all agreed. Shikhar was informed by Rahul before the team was announced on Sunday,” a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying by InsideSport.

MS Dhoni is a crowd-puller. The 40-year-old remains a big name in world cricket despite retiring from international cricket on August 15, 2020. The former Indian captain has a humongous fan-following across the globe. He not only led India to all major ICC titles, but also created a niche for himself with his unorthodox-yet-effective keeping skills, power-hitting, finishing knocks and helping many current superstar Indian cricketers' careers flourish.

Recently, Dhoni was seen in the ongoing IPL 2022 edition where he represented the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). While the Yellow Army failed to enter the playoffs, Dhoni's presence on the field continued to attract eyeballs.

"The first time, the camp started when Dhoni retired. I saw him for the first time then. He asked if you were the throwers. He asked me to throw balls at him. The team was pleased after that. The net bowlers were speaking about his retirement. After two or three weeks, he came to play sidearm. Everybody was arriving," Palani said on the Chennai Super Kings website.

"Fleming, Hussey and everyone said Dhoni was coming and asked me to bowl carefully. The first two balls were wides. The next ball was a full toss. Dhoni came to me and said 'Stop looking at me and bowl'. He asked me to play naturally. I then started bowling wherever he wanted and then he was very happy. He started addressing me everyday since with my name," he added.

Rishabh Pant has now become a regular for Team India across formats. While Pant made his name with his IPL heroics and was being seen as the next-big-thing in white-ball formats, the 24-year-old has achieved more success in Test cricket so far at the international level.

In 30 Tests, Pant has 1,920 runs at an average of 40.85 and has scored hundreds in England, Australia and South Africa. Thus, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag -- who also defied odds by doing exceeding well in red-ball format when many deemed him to be fit for the shorter forms of the game -- has made a big statement on Pant.

Sehwag stressed the importance of Test cricket and claimed that Pant won't be known for long if he only excels in white-ball formats but will etch his name in the history books by playing 100, or more, Tests for India.

A lot pf speculations were there over Hardik Pandya ahead of the IPL 2022 edition.
In the ongoing IPL season, the 28-year-old Hardik has stunned one and all with his all-round blitz and captaincy. Thus, his stocks as a captain has risen and the all-rounder is in-line to lead India's second-stringed T20I side for the upcoming Ireland tour. It is to be noted that Rohit Sharma-Rahul Dravid pair will be involved with the Test line-up, at the same time, for the one-off match versus England.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirms VVS Laxman to be in charge of India's T20I side for Ireland series

MS Dhoni retired from international cricket in August 2020. However, the 40-year-old remains a big name in world cricket to date. Debuting for Team India in late 2004, when the team desperately needed a specialist keeper-batter, Dhoni became the darling of the masses instantly courtesy of his big hits.

Soon, Dhoni's presence of mind, calmness, improved keeping skills, and fearless approach to the game saw him being promoted as India's captain across formats. While he became much a mature finisher in limited-overs, got the runs coming in whites (especially by playing some gutsy knocks both at home and overseas), and made world cricket take note of his unorthodox yet effective keeping skills, Dhoni changed Indian cricket forever by leading them to all major ICC titles and No. 1 rankings across formats.

Dhoni ended with 17,266 runs, 108 half-centuries, 16 tons, 634 catches, and 195 stumpings, overall, however, his knack for reading the game from behind the stumps, fast reflexes as a keeper, power-hitting, quick legs and overall fitness separated him from others.

Recently, Team India's former trainer Ramji Srinivasan -- part of the team during their 2011 ODI World Cup success -- hailed the former captain after having observed him from closed quarters.

"MSD is an enigma and like Sachin Tendulkar, is one in a billion product. He does what suits him, be it strength work, agility, speed or hybrid work. He has his own protocols in place, which suits him. He has amazing reflex like a Formula One driver and with a mind like 5-star General. Very few can match MSD fitness when they reach that age," Srinivasan told the New Indian Express.

"MSD is an enigma and like Sachin Tendulkar, is one in a billion product. He does what suits him, be it strength work, agility, speed or hybrid work. He has his own protocols in place, which suits him. He has amazing reflex like a Formula One driver and with a mind like 5-star General. Rahul, who debuted for India in late 2014, has shown his class as a batter by batting in various positions and is now also the vice-captain in all formats ever since Rohit Sharma took over from Virat Kohli. He pushed him up to open and made him a permanent member of the Indian team. Rahul is a nice and sensible guy. He has been able to prove himself and has successfully shown that he is a serious contender for India and in the IPL as well. I think KL Rahul is going to be a major factor in the match," Akhtar said in a video on Sportskeeda.
