The film’s director, Anuraj Kashyap, and producer Ekta Kapoor were present during the trailer launch. At the trailer launch event, producer Ekta Kapoor was questioned by a journalist about a statement made by actress Kangana Ranaut in which she called Pannu a “<em>sasta</em> (cheaper) version of herself.”<br />

Srijit Mukherji's latest, Shabaash Mithu' follows the template to the tee. But does it leave a lasting, defining impression? Only in parts.&nbsp;</p>

The story is a familiar one- primarily because Raj is a celebrated name in sports in the country and also because the 2017 Women's Cricket World Cup is still fresh in everyone's memory. A tournament in which Raj led as a captain for the Indian team and played stupendously well, compelling the country to sit up and take notice of the women's cricket team in India.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>The moments that stand out in 'Shabaash Mithu'&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>When the story is all too familiar, the challenges multiply for a storyteller. Written by Priya Aven, the film's screenplay thrills in moments with the beginning being the most promising and poignant. It has Pannu as Raj standing in front of a few seated men, presumably officials of the cricket board, asking for a few basic rights for her and her team. The pompous official (Bajendra Kala) promptly calls a peon over to the conference room and asks him to name a few women cricketers as he gushes about the sport. The scene is abruptly cut short and the narrative then goes back in time to show how a young Mithali (played by Inayat Verma) was introduced to the game of cricket by her feisty, tom-boyish friend Noor. The two were Sachin and Kambli to each other and played cricket in a secret hideout every day after their Bharatnatyam practice. During one such game, cricket coach Sampath (Vijay Raaz) spots the two and their talent, convinces Raj's family and brings them under his tutelage.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The scenes of the two young girls, dressed in skirts and with flower adorning their braids, playing gleefully a game that mostly is played by young boys in gullies across the country are the most heartening scenes of the film. Beautifully written and well performed, they put an instant smile on one's face.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The other scene that stands out is the one where the Indian women's cricket team goes to appeal for basic amenities and jerseys of their names in front of a few officials at &nbsp;CAI (basically BCCI) and after being rebuked, they introduce themselves one by one by taking off the jerseys which do not have their name tags. It is a defining moment in the film and one that stays with you for a long time.</p>

<p>Raj and her team fought for respect not only from the cricketing board but also from the entire nation. Certain scenes highlight how we perceived women cricketers vis-a-vis their male counterparts and how the women changed it to a great extent with their stupendous performance at the 2017 Women's Cricket World Cup.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While the film has such poignant moments- in totally it doesn't add up. Maybe because the film's lead actor, Taapsee Pannu has overexposed herself playing sports characters. This is Pannu's third sports film. She has played a hockey player and an athlete in the past- both the character arcs were similar and&nbsp;so in this film, there is a sense of Deja Vu when one sees Pannu donning a similar character who goes through similar trials in life.&nbsp;</p>

<p>There is also Momtaz Sorcar, who plays a character loosely based on cricketer Jhulan Goswami. Sorcar usually has a very strong screen presence but here her role is limited. Nevertheless, she manages to create an impression. The other actress who delivers is Shilpi Marwaha who plays Taapsee's competitor and senior in the team. Marwaha is understated in her performance as &nbsp;Sukumari Marwa and her scenes with Taapsee are special.&nbsp;</p>

<p>I found a major 'Chak De! India' hangover throughout the film. The film remains perhaps one of the best sports films in India and certain scenes in 'Shabaash Mithu' seem to be heavily inspired by Shimit Amin's film, especially the locker room scene where Taapsee delivers a pep talk to her teammates. The scene is supposed to give goosebumps to the audience or make them emotional, but due to lacklustre writing, falls flat.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Considering this is the first film on women's cricket and its stars, 'Shabaash Mithu' could have been a defining film and done wonders. It could have evoked a sense of curiosity among sports enthusiasts to look up and read more about the women cricketers of the country. Instead, the film leaves a middling effect on viewers, where the story, the performances and the climax of the film- all seem too predictable.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It is a well-intended film which tells an important story- but don't expect it to you give you an adrenaline rush that films of this genre usually give.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the trailer, Pannu is seen taking the audience through the struggles of a small-town girl with many big dreams in her eyes. As she tries&nbsp;to create her own space in the male dominating world of cricket, she comes across several hurdles but in the end, she manages to change the gentleman's game.</p>

Taapsee Pannu’s highly anticipated film of 2022, 'Shabaash Mithu’s' trailer was unveiled by the makers today. The 2.44-minute-long trailer narrates an inspiring story of the struggles and successes of legendary Indian cricketer Mithali Raj, who recently retired from the game.

The 2.44-minute-long trailer narrates an inspiring story of the struggles and successes of legendary Indian cricketer Mithali Raj, who recently retired from the game. In the opening scenes of the trailer, Taapsee, who is playing the role of Mithali, can be seen on the pitch hitting sixes and fours while we can hear people shouting and cheering for India in the background. It quickly shifts to Mithali's childhood, a young Tamilian girl who is caught off guard when she catches a ball hit by her older brother. Gradually, her skill is recognised by Vijay Raaz, a coach. He encourages her family to let her play. Mithali’s family accepts it, and she begins her training. However, the journey is not easy for Mithali. Mithali’s cricket journey, from her, practises to becoming the captain of the team India, offers an emotional watch. It's inspiring to see how she rises above all obstacles and even raises her voice to demand that the female cricketers be given team jerseys with their own names on them instead of the male players. <p>Release of `Dhak Dhak` was announced on Monday, jointly by Viacom18 Studios and actor Taapsee Pannu`s Outsiders Films Productions, in collaboration with BLM Pictures. The adventure film, directed by Tarun Dudeja, will feature Fatima Sana Shaikh, Ratna Pathak Shah, Dia Mirza, and Sanjana Sanghi to embark on a once-in-a-lifetime journey.</p>

<p>The `Pink` star took to her Instagram handle and shared a couple of pictures, the first of which features four female lead actors standing with their motorcycles, and the second one features Taapsee and two other producers posing with bikes.</p>

A remake of the 90s German cult classic 'Run Lola Run' by Tom Tywer, 'Looop Lapeta' breathes a fresh lease of life into a known story, giving its protagonist Savi, a former athlete, 80 minutes and three chances at saving her good-for-nothing boyfriend Satya and procure Rs 50 lac. In the original, the protagonist had 20 minutes.&nbsp;<br />

But Bhatia along with co-writers Vinay Chhawal, Ketan Pedgaonkar, Aakash Batia, Arnav Vepa Nanduri give a very contemporary Indian spin to the story which is high on energy, quirks and performance making the 2 hr 11 minutes film feel like a breeze.&nbsp;</p>

Satya being the careless, carefree man that he is- loses it on the way and calls his girlfriend Savi for help. As the couple run against time, Satya accidentally gets shot but Savi realises she has a few more chances to set things straight.&nbsp;<br />

With a screenplay that gets the viewers engaged right from the first frame to the catchy background score and credible performances, there really isn't a single dull moment in 'Looop Lapeta'. It isn't easy to make a remake of a hit that has been loved and revered the world over but Bhatia and his team of writers manage to step up, create very interesting subplots with characters that can have their own separate stories to make the film thoroughly enjoyable.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
There are two dimwitted brothers Gappu-Appu (Raghav Raj Kakker and Manik Papneja) who plan to rob&nbsp;their father's jewellery store- a place that Satya too plans to steal from. The confusion that ensues &nbsp;(not once but three times over) while the store is robbed, is one of the most well written and enacted portions of the film. There is also a Taxi driver, who crosses paths with Savi and who is heartbroken about his girlfriend getting married to someone else. Also adding more fun to the plot is a cop- who on his way to buy the fresh catch from the fish market, spots Savi running, gets suspicious and starts chasing her. Not just the lead pair, but Bhatia ensures all the characters have an intrinsic part to play in the loop and are so well fleshed out that you want to know more about them.&nbsp;</p>

Taapsee Pannu, who has over a period of time proved that she alone can take a film forward, delivers a credible performance as Savi, an angsty former athlete who has several personal issues that need to be addressed. She may be running ( a lot) against time to save her boyfriend but the film beautifully uses the plot to make the character come to terms with her personal problems.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Tahir Raj Bhasin, easily the man of the moment on OTT space, is refreshing, goofy, charming - all wrapped into one. We all know slackers like Satya in real life and yet we all fall for their optimism and simplicity. Bhasin breathes in the right amount of charm into his character and its a delight to watch him on screen. He shares great onscreen chemistry with Pannu and the two support each other well throughout the film.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Actors Raghav Raj Kakker and Manik Papneja are equally charming as Gappu and Appu. I would love to see the two getting a spin-off. They were so effective in their parts, drawing in the laughs. So did Shreya Dhanwanthary and Samir Kevin Roy as lovers Julia and Jacob.&nbsp;</p>

Watch 'Looop Lapeta' even if you have watched the original 'Run Lola Run' because its a clever remake that gives a reference not only to the original but also to the popular mythological Savitri Satyabhan story. It basically serves as a very engaging film wrapped in Indian sensibilities.&nbsp;<br />

If you haven't watched the original, then be prepared to go on a fun ride with 'Looop Lapeta'.&nbsp;<br />

He shares great onscreen chemistry with Pannu and the two support each other well throughout the film. Actors Raghav Raj Kakker and Manik Papneja are equally charming as Gappu and Appu. I would love to see the two getting a spin-off. They were so effective in their parts, drawing in the laughs. So did Shreya Dhanwanthary and Samir Kevin Roy as lovers Julia and Jacob. A story that is stuck in the loop can be repetitive, but with deft writing and direction, 'Looop Lapeta' draws you in and keeps you hooked throughout. It helps that the film uses a colourful palate and Yash Khanna's camera work ably supported by Priyank Prem Kumar's editing, makes the film a joy ride that draws you in the loop, much like its characters. Watch 'Looop Lapeta' even if you have watched the original 'Run Lola Run' because its a clever remake that gives a reference not only to the original but also to the popular mythological Savitri Satyabhan story. It basically serves as a very engaging film wrapped in Indian sensibilities. If you haven't watched the original, then be prepared to go on a fun ride with 'Looop Lapeta'. As Sushmita Sen told me, she unlearned all the overt acting skills to just “be” in front of the camera for 'Aarya'. Are our actors finally learning to just be themselves? Looks like it. Here are the actors who shone on the digital platform.</p>

<p><strong>1. Kartik Aaryan in 'Dhamaka': </strong>Kartik Aaryan’s powerful performance holds the film together. His journey from a self-serving scumbag to a conscientious newshound is convincingly achieved by the young actor. This is his best performance to date and one that puts him ahead of all competition. I see Kartik winning all the best-actor awards this year. So far the digital platform has not been very kind to the Bollywood A-listers. Akshay Kumar floundered with' Laxmii', Varun and papa David Dhawan delivered the worst film of their career in 'Coolie No 1'. Salman Khan’s 'Radhe' was arguably the worst film of the superstar’s career. As for Anil Kapoor’s 'AK Versus AK', the less said the better. What is the “IT” factor that goes missing when Bollywood A-listers translocate their films from the big to the small screen? That lacuna in the genre will be filled by 'Dhamaka.'Director Ram Madhavani already had us gripped with the series 'Aarya' and that superb hijack drama 'Neerja'. He knows how to keep us on tenterhooks. While Kartik Aaryan will be the first Bollywood A-lister to break the barrier between Bollywood and the OTT, there are several A-listers like Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Ranbir Kapoor who have so far stayed away from the OTT platform. It is time for Bollywood’s superstars to get down from their high horses and adapt to the new home medium of entertainment. Don't give us arrogant self-centred I-me-myself films like 'Sadak 2' and 'Kali Peeli' on the OTT.</p>

<p><strong>2. Jayasurya in 'Sunny': </strong>Jayasurya’s spectacular performance holds this one-man show together. He is so inured in the character’s dark desperate suicidal world(at one point, Sunny puts a piece of broken glass to his wrist, at another point he is about to jump off from the balcony of his fourth-floor hotel suite) that we become unconditionally invested in his desolation for a little more than 90 minutes. Not that Sunny is likeable or even remotely heroic. But his anguish is a throbbing entity, impossible to ignore. I’ve seen many actors do a one-man show: Sunil Dutt in 'Yaadein', Rajkummar Rao in 'Trapped' Tom Hanks in 'Castaway'. None of these actors has been able to capture the essence of isolation as effectively as Jayasurya. He takes us into Sunny’s wretched life—a broken marriage, a broken extra-marital affair, a lost job, debts owed to nasty people, a dead child—not in a ritualistic relay race of imposed drama created to build a sense of sympathy around the quarantined hero. As for Jayasurya, is he a better actor than his Malayali peer Fahadh Faasil? When Sunny finally breaks down at the end(out of relief, not despair) I was sobbing with him. This is not a performance. This is an embodiment of life’s essential truth where the adage ‘This Too Shall Pass’ acquires an entirely novel relevance.</p>

<p><strong>3. Pawan Malhotra In 'Tabbar':</strong> Set in the curiously vivacious bustle of Jalandhar it has the extraordinary Pawan Malhotra as Omkar a petty entrepreneur and patriarch with a wife and two sons. One night, their lives go wrong and thus begins a distressing horrific downward spiral that can only go one way. Malhotra’s character makes it to the grade of a gender-reversed Mother India. Pawan Malhotra and Supriya Pathak bring nuances to their stereotypical roles(strong obdurate father, frail devoted mother) that are hard to pinpoint.</p>

<p><strong>4. Kriti Sanon in 'Mimi':</strong> Kriti Sanon, in a role written to make her shine, plays an ambitious Rajasthani dancer who wants to be a Bollywood star, and has Ranveer Singh’s poster in her room. She also has Deepika and Kareena’s pictures on the wall just to remind herself that once she gets to Bollywood those divas are done with. The film has some interesting ideas on parenthood and the woman’s right to her womb. But the treatment gets progressively guillotined by excessive melodrama. However, Kriti’s feisty performance holds interest till the end.</p>

<p><strong>5. Mita Vashisht In 'Your Honor 2': </strong>That’s what two brilliant actors can do to you. Every time Jimmy Sheirgill and Mita Vashisht are on screen together, you want to see just where their conversation is going. The words they speak seductively encircle their cat-and-mouse game in this energetic engrossing and altogether gripping tale of empowerment privilege and their misuse. Vashisht’s sly cop act furnishes a vinegary flavour to her conversations with the Judge in the dock. Vashisht plays the cop as a mixture of attentive and disdainful. I just couldn’t take my eyes off her stolen steely scornful glances at the guilty-as-sin Judge. The brilliant Mita Vashisht enters the plot in Episode 3 in Season 2. Once she does, the plot gathers some momentum.</p>

<p><strong>6. Vijay Sethupathi in 'Nava Rasa'(Netflix): </strong>They say 'save the last for the best. But in this eclectic uneven omnibus of nine stories based on the nine basic human emotions, the best is the first story, Edhir, based on the emotion of pity (Karuna). It features two powerhouse performances by Vijay Sethupathi and Revathy as the murderer and his victim’s wife respectively. Their confrontation is so beautifully mapped that the entire film seems to have been plotted by director Bejoy Nambiar just to bring these two fabulous actors together. But no. There is more here. Edhir addresses itself to the question of the conscience and the power/ambiguity of forgiveness with such stupendous serenity -- it is a joy to behold the art of Bejoy. Sethupathi is a force of nature. With one twitch of his eyebrow, he can convey an ocean of conflicting emotions.</p>

<p><strong>7. Fahadh Fasil in 'Jijo':</strong> In film after film, Fahadh proves himself a fearless peerless seamless actor who merges into his characters like water in a stream. And better still flows down that stream where the human condition merges with the very bedrock of existence. And look at where Fahadh has arrived in Joji! Shakespeare’s Macbeth gets the treatment which I am sure would make Shakespeare himself envious Joji is of course played by the great Fahad Faasil who brings to the character a kind of patriarchal bitterness that manifests itself in a not-expected burst of devastating violence. This is director Dileesh Pothan’s third directorial with Fahadh(after Maheshinte Prathikaaram and Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum) and by far the most reflective, moody, sinister, subtle and sublime. Though Macbeth is an inherently violent tale of patricide and Oedipal guilt, Pothan’s film does away with the vileness of the protagonist’s deeds by introducing a kind of dithering juvenilia into Jijo’s character. His chosen weapon of violence is an airgun and his selected hideaway is a half-dug well. Fahadh’s Jijo is an unlikely villain and hence all the more devastating. He is also an unlikely Shakespearean hero who has in all probability never heard of Shakespeare.</p>

<p><strong>8. Huma Qureshi In 'Maharani':</strong> Huma Qureshi’s transformation from Leila in Deepa Mehta’s 'Leila' searching for her lost daughter, to Rani the politician’s wife who searches for her own identity, is admirable. Here Huma creates a woman who is at once street-wise and parliament-foolish but possesses the moral wherewithal to tell right from wrong. The way she stands up against her husband in the dismissal of Prem Kumar, the Minister in-charge of the fodder resources, would get taalis in the movie theatre. If only wishes were horses, then Rabri Devi would be Margaret Thatcher. ‘Fodder’ record, the real Lalu Yadav was convicted in the 950 crore scam. In this thrill-stamped cleaned-out sweeping drama, all the guilt is shifted to the Minister while Rani Bharati runs an expose that transforms her into a neo-Joan Of Arc, a woman who cares deeply for the truth. In every frame, he is Rajesh Khanna in Anand and Aradhana. You know he is going to be missed sorely once he’s gone. Malhotra plays Batra as unforgettable. Boyish, helpful, sincere and endearing. There is not a duplicitous bone in this soldier and lover-boy. The film allows the protagonist to fly freely.</p>

<p><strong>10. Ahana Kumra in 'Call My Agent':</strong> Aahana Kumra, the fearless feisty firefighter of an actress doesn’t mind looking ridiculous if the need arises. Aahana plays Amaal, a kamaal ki lesbian with temper tantrums problems who more than meets her match in Jasleen(Anuschka Sawhney), a tax assessor with has the hots for Amaal. Their romance plays out like a rippling riff in a buxom musical refrain that is warm intimate relatable and sometimes sad.</p>

<p><strong>11. Taapsee Pannu in 'Haseen Dillruba':</strong> Taapsee delivers yet another titillating tongue—and-taang-in-cheek performance, rendering Rani a slut hard to slot. It’s interesting to see how an avant-garde writer like Kanika Dhillon is pushing the Hindi Film Heroine over the edge. She can now crave for things like non-vegetarian food and satisfactory sex without being slut-shamed. It’s okay to be a slut now. Rani Tripathi, nee Kashyap, is the kind of hormonal heroine who gives the smalltown slut a bad name.</p>

When Kaushal says something as innocently pacifying as “Mere bahot saare British friends hain” he sounds as fringe-friendly as those fake liberals who say, “I’ve nothing against the gay community. In fact, some of my best friends are gay.”</p>

Nothing he has done in the past can ever equal the power and glory of the self-destructive streak and the redemptive strength that pull his character out of his self-made abyss into a tentative light at the end when in the final fight in the ring, he defeats his main adversary. Wife and mother who hate his boxing ambitions are there to cheer him on.The power of cinema is to sway and derail negative emotions. One of the many unadulterated pleasures of watching Sarpatta Parambarai is to see Kabilan’s absolutely endearing relationship with his wife. If the husband-wife relationship rings true, the guru-shishya tradition is here taken into a zone of insulated adoration where the protégé hero-worships his guru blindly. Arya manifests all the roles and emotions of his character with majestic authenticity and an empowering rawness. He is childlike in his stubbornness and a true hero in his selfless quest for victory in the boxing ring.</p>

Kartik Aaryan in 'Dhamaka': Kartik Aaryan’s powerful performance holds the film together. His journey from a self-serving scumbag to a conscientious newshound is convincingly achieved by the young actor. This is his best performance to date and one that puts him ahead of all competition. I see Kartik winning all the best-actor awards this year. So far the digital platform has not been very kind to the Bollywood A-listers. Akshay Kumar floundered with' Laxmii', Varun and papa David Dhawan delivered the worst film of their career in 'Coolie No 1'. Salman Khan’s 'Radhe' was arguably the worst film of the superstar’s career. As for Anil Kapoor’s 'AK Versus AK', the less said the better. What is the “IT” factor that goes missing when Bollywood A-listers translocate their films from the big to the small screen? That lacuna in the genre will be filled by 'Dhamaka.'Director Ram Madhavani already had us gripped with the series 'Aarya' and that superb hijack drama 'Neerja'. He knows how to keep us on tenterhooks. While Kartik Aaryan will be the first Bollywood A-lister to break the barrier between Bollywood and the OTT, there are several A-listers like Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Ranbir Kapoor who have so far stayed away from the OTT platform. It is time for Bollywood’s superstars to get down from their high horses and adapt to the new home medium of entertainment. Don't give us arrogant self-centred I-me-myself films like 'Sadak 2' and 'Kali Peeli' on the OTT. 2. Jayasurya in 'Sunny': Jayasurya’s spectacular performance holds this one-man show together. He is so inured in the character’s dark desperate suicidal world(at one point, Sunny puts a piece of broken glass to his wrist, at another point he is about to jump off from the balcony of his fourth-floor hotel suite) that we become unconditionally invested in his desolation for a little more than 90 minutes. Not that Sunny is likeable or even remotely heroic. But his anguish is a throbbing entity, impossible to ignore. I’ve seen many actors do a one-man show: Sunil Dutt in 'Yaadein', Rajkummar Rao in 'Trapped' Tom Hanks in 'Castaway'. None of these actors has been able to capture the essence of isolation as effectively as Jayasurya. He takes us into Sunny’s wretched life—a broken marriage, a broken extra-marital affair, a lost job, debts owed to nasty people, a dead child—not in a ritualistic relay race of imposed drama created to build a sense of sympathy around the quarantined hero. As for Jayasurya, is he a better actor than his Malayali peer Fahadh Faasil? When Sunny finally breaks down at the end(out of relief, not despair) I was sobbing with him. This is not a performance. This is an embodiment of life’s essential truth where the adage ‘This Too Shall Pass’ acquires an entirely novel relevance. 3. Pawan Malhotra In 'Tabbar': Set in the curiously vivacious bustle of Jalandhar it has the extraordinary Pawan Malhotra as Omkar a petty entrepreneur and patriarch with a wife and two sons. One night, their lives go wrong and thus begins a distressing horrific downward spiral that can only go one way. Malhotra’s character makes it to the grade of a gender-reversed Mother India. Pawan Malhotra and Supriya Pathak bring nuances to their stereotypical roles(strong obdurate father, frail devoted mother) that are hard to pinpoint. 4. Kriti Sanon in 'Mimi': Kriti Sanon, in a role written to make her shine, plays an ambitious Rajasthani dancer who wants to be a Bollywood star, and has Ranveer Singh’s poster in her room. She also has Deepika and Kareena’s pictures on the wall just to remind herself that once she gets to Bollywood those divas are done with. The film has some interesting ideas on parenthood and the woman’s right to her womb. But the treatment gets progressively guillotined by excessive melodrama. However, Kriti’s feisty performance holds interest till the end. 5. Mita Vashisht In 'Your Honor 2': That’s what two brilliant actors can do to you. Every time Jimmy Sheirgill and Mita Vashisht are on screen together, you want to see just where their conversation is going. The words they speak seductively encircle their cat-and-mouse game in this energetic engrossing and altogether gripping tale of empowerment privilege and their misuse. Vashisht’s sly cop act furnishes a vinegary flavour to her conversations with the Judge in the dock. Vashisht plays the cop as a mixture of attentive and disdainful. I just couldn’t take my eyes off her stolen steely scornful glances at the guilty-as-sin Judge. The brilliant Mita Vashisht enters the plot in Episode 3 in Season 2. Once she does, the plot gathers some momentum. 6. Vijay Sethupathi in 'Nava Rasa'(Netflix): They say 'save the last for the best. But in this eclectic uneven omnibus of nine stories based on the nine basic human emotions, the best is the first story, Edhir, based on the emotion of pity (Karuna). It features two powerhouse performances by Vijay Sethupathi and Revathy as the murderer and his victim’s wife respectively. Their confrontation is so beautifully mapped that the entire film seems to have been plotted by director Bejoy Nambiar just to bring these two fabulous actors together. But no. There is more here. Edhir addresses itself to the question of the conscience and the power/ambiguity of forgiveness with such stupendous serenity -- it is a joy to behold the art of Bejoy. Sethupathi is a force of nature. With one twitch of his eyebrow, he can convey an ocean of conflicting emotions. 7. Fahadh Fasil in 'Jijo': In film after film, Fahadh proves himself a fearless peerless seamless actor who merges into his characters like water in a stream. And better still flows down that stream where the human condition merges with the very bedrock of existence. And look at where Fahadh has arrived in Joji! Shakespeare’s Macbeth gets the treatment which I am sure would make Shakespeare himself envious Joji is of course played by the great Fahad Faasil who brings to the character a kind of patriarchal bitterness that manifests itself in a not-expected burst of devastating violence. This is director Dileesh Pothan’s third directorial with Fahadh(after Maheshinte Prathikaaram and Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum) and by far the most reflective, moody, sinister, subtle and sublime. Though Macbeth is an inherently violent tale of patricide and Oedipal guilt, Pothan’s film does away with the vileness of the protagonist’s deeds by introducing a kind of dithering juvenilia into Jijo’s character. His chosen weapon of violence is an airgun and his selected hideaway is a half-dug well. Fahadh’s Jijo is an unlikely villain and hence all the more devastating. He is also an unlikely Shakespearean hero who has in all probability never heard of Shakespeare. 8. Huma Qureshi In 'Maharani': Huma Qureshi’s transformation from Leila in Deepa Mehta’s 'Leila' searching for her lost daughter, to Rani the politician’s wife who searches for her own identity, is admirable. Here Huma creates a woman who is at once street-wise and parliament-foolish but possesses the moral wherewithal to tell right from wrong. The way she stands up against her husband in the dismissal of Prem Kumar, the Minister in-charge of the fodder resources, would get taalis in the movie theatre. If only wishes were horses, then Rabri Devi would be Margaret Thatcher. ‘Fodder’ record, the real Lalu Yadav was convicted in the 950 crore scam. In this thrill-stamped cleaned-out sweeping drama, all the guilt is shifted to the Minister while Rani Bharati runs an expose that transforms her into a neo-Joan Of Arc, a woman who cares deeply for the truth. Taapsee Pannu starrer biopic `Shabaash Mithu` has a release date now. The movie, which is based on the former captain of the Indian Women’s Cricket team, Mithali Raj, will release on February 4, 2022. Marking Mithali's birthday, the makers of the sports biopic have unveiled the first look poster of the movie and it will surely win your heart. In the first look poster, Taapsee is seen striking a pose with the bat on the cricket ground in her cricket uniform. Taking to her Instagram handle, Pannu shared the first look and wrote, “I have always been asked who’s your favourite male cricketer but you should ask them who their favourite female cricketer is.” The statement that made every cricket lover pause n introspects that do they love the game or the gender playing it. The movie is directed by Srijit Mukherji with the script written by Priya Aven, the movie is produced by Viacom18 Studios.
