<p>On Tuesday, March 24, PM Narendra Modi addressed the nation and called for 21 days of lockdown for the entire country in order to curb the spread of coronavirus.<br />
<br />
While addressing the public, live on TV, Modi stated, "With folded hands, I request you to stay put wherever you are."</p>

<p>Soon after his speech, several Bollywood celebrities spoke out in support of the PM and urged people to stay home and follow the 21 days lockdown.<br />
<br />
Vicky Kaushal, Arjun Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor, Huma Qureshi, Richa Chadha were some of the celebrities who appealed to their fans on social media to follow the guideline and hailed the PM's decision.</p>

<p>Actor Priyanshu Painyuli, best known for Vikramaditya Motwane's 'Bhavesh Joshi Superhero', is set to feature in "Rashmi Rocket" with Taapsee Pannu, the makers announced on Wednesday.</p>

<p>The actor, who recently starred in Netflix series 'Upstarts', will play an Army officer in the movie.</p>

<p>Priyanshu said he is looking forward to working on the film, to be directed by Akarsh Khurana.</p>

Thappad: Taapsee Pannu starrer's first look poster will make you look twice

<p>Sujoy Ghosh's best work till date, 'Kahaani' till date serves as a textbook example of how a thriller should be. It should ideally keep the viewers hooked till the end and the ultimate ending should rattle you a bit- something that the viewers would not be able to guess. His latest, 'Badla' may not tick all boxes of a perfect whodunnit, but nevertheless keeps you engaged till the end.</p>

<p>The plot is pretty simple. Young business tycoon Naina Sethi finds herself locked in a hotel room with a dead body of her lover Arjun lying in the bathroom. The police naturally think she has murdered him and she needs a good lawyer to get her out of the mess. She meets advocate Badal Gupta, an expert in his field who wants Naina to tell him the truth in order to save her. Over a course of two hours, Badal and Naina sit across each other at the former's dining room as she narrates how she was having affair on the sly and how she is innocent. But who has then killed Arjun? Is Naina telling the truth and is there more to the story than what she is saying?</p>

<p>An official adaptation of the Spanish classic&nbsp; 'The Invisible Guest', the film's narrative keeps going back and forth. Most of the plot is narrated in flashback and Ghosh, who also serves as the screenplay writer of the film, keeps the audience hooked with numerous plot twists. A lot of things are not what they seem to appear and the constant verbal exchange between Bachchan and Pannu keeps one engaged.</p>

<p>The two actors deliver formidable performances. Each matching the other with sharpness and wit. Bachchan, of course, swells in his part as always and its a delight to watch him play the sharp advocate who doesn't want to miss the minutest details even. Pannu, who has shared the screen space with Big B in 'Pink' before, delivers a credible performance for the greater p[art of the film. I wish though she had shown more sharpness- a quality that's attributed to her character Naina. Naina is somewhat cold and a bit self-centered- qualities that don't come out prominently in Pannu's performance too clearly. The other actor who shines immensely in her role is Amrita Singh who returns to screen nearly after two years. Singh infuses just the right amount of charm and vulnerability to her character and its a delight to watch her perform. She should definitely be doing more films!</p>

<p>The cat-and-mouse chase though wears off a bit by the end. If you like whodunnits and have watched innumerable suspense thrillers in your life, you may be able to predict the end, as I did.</p>

Based on ISRO’s successful Mars Mission in 2014 which catapulted India among the big league in the space program, the film celebrates the unrelenting hard work and dedication of 17000 engineers and scientists who made the mission possible.<br />

&nbsp;Written by Shakti and R Balki, who also serves as the creative director, ‘Mission Mangal’ may have taken copious liberty in terms of characterisations and over simplifies science but ultimately delivers a film that makes you proud of India and its unknown heroes.<br />

&nbsp;Akshay Kumar plays Rakesh Dhawan, a senior scientist who is made the director of Mission Mars after one of his earlier missions fail. It’s sort of a punishment posting to a department which most ISRO scientists feel will never take flight. Tara Shinde (Vidya Balan), Raghav’s project manager in previous missions though thinks otherwise. As Rakesh and Tara go on convincing the higher authorities of the organisation about their mission, they face multiple obstacles from the word go. From setting up a team of experienced people to getting an approval of the desired budget, to getting the desired satellite in the orbit of Mars in a limited time- nothing seemed to go in their favour initially.</p>

<p>Eventually, they put together a motley group of junior scientists consisting of Eka (Sonakshi Sinha), Kritika (Taapsee Pannu), Neha (Kirti Kulhari), Varsha (Nithya Menen), Parmeshwar(Sharman Joshi) and Ananth (HG Dattatreya)- who initially are not willing to put extra hours at work but later come on board to achieve the impossible.</p>

<p>While the story is an inspiring one, it is the oversimplification that spoils the narrative. Science is dumbed down to make it more relatable for the audience at large. Then there are several scenes which seem so unnecessary to the main plot and one can feel that it has put there merely to make a science-heavy film more commercially viable.</p>

<p>Since its an Akshay Kumar film, there are surely some lines that seem straight out of books of nationalism. An ailing Army officer eggs his scientist wife to go back to work and not turn into a nurse because she too is on duty for the country. The story- through its subplots- also pay token mention to certain pertinent issues at hand including Islamophobia, and women’s right to choose career over motherhood. And while the intent is good, one can’t help but wonder if it has all been included to appease one and all.</p>

<p>All the actors deliver commendable performances but it's Vidya Balan who shines the most. Even though her character seems an extension of what she played in ‘Tumhari Sulu’- as the multi-tasker cool mom, Balan still manages to shine the most in ‘Mission Mangal’. Her eyes light up every time the mission leaps ahead, her eyes look tired and worn out when her ever complaining husband (Sanjay Kapoor) nags about some household chores that hasn’t been done. Balan is such a natural and manages to fit into every character she plays really well making it her own. The other lead Akshay Kumar, who also serves as the producer of the film, lets Balan take the centre stage, while Kumar is himself pretty comfortable playing a maverick scientist. Of course, he gets to say the dramatic patriotic lines on more occasions than one but the actor makes his character quite believable. Much like their characters, Kumar and Balan ably support each other- their camaraderie spills out the screen and they make for an interesting pair. Bollywood films usually romantically pair up two lead actors in a film, so it&nbsp;is interesting to watch the actors play a boss and a subordinate in this film instead.</p>

<p>Pannu, Sinha, Menen, and Kulhari also look refreshingly relatable in each of their parts. Each of their characters is quite distinct from each other and they suit their parts well.</p>

<p>Unlike ‘Hidden Figures’, where the three women faced strict opposition based on the colour of their skins, the problems in ‘Mission Mangal’ are more logistical than emotional. The women have to manage home and work and only listen to taunts of a senior scientist, a NASA returned, Indian American played by Dalip Tahil, who makes his character more comical than evil. I also wish they had shown more of ISRO and the work they did to achieve such a feat instead of dramatising the personal stories of each of the women.</p>

<p>The film gives a hat –tip to scores of women in India who juggle work and home with complete ease. Termed as ‘MOM’ (Mars Orbit Mission) it truly celebrates its women and lets the male superstar underplay his role. In fact, in one scene one of the men wonders out loud whether the mission would have been as successful if it was termed ‘DAD’ instead of ‘ MOM’.</p>

<p>Despite the lines that play to the gallery, despite its oversimplification of science, and its unnecessary need to put in scenes just for entertainment purpose- ‘Mission Mangal’ works. It tells a story that is worth telling; it celebrates women and their inherent ability to juggle multiple roles and also puts the spotlight on some unsung heroes of our time. Ultimately, it’s a wholesome family entertainer that makes for a perfect watch this Independence day.</p>

'Mission Mangal' review: Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan's film makes science easy and entertaining

<p>In one scene of ‘Saand Ki Aankh’, soon after winning their first medals at state level shooting competition, 60 something years old Chandro and Prakashi Tomar are asked their age by a reporter. Unable to tell the exact age, the journalist jokes that women are never okay revealing their age to which Chandro corrects him and says, “There is no shame in hiding one’s age. But women are unable to tell exactly how many years have they lived for themselves.” Poignant and impactful-this line sums up the film well.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Director Tushar Hiranandani narrates a heartwarming real-life story of two feisty women from an interior village in Uttar Pradesh who take up sharpshooting post 60 - an age when most give up on life. Not only are Chandro and Prakashi good at their game, but even win hundreds of medal even as the menfolk in their household remain oblivious about their new activity for a long time.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Sisters-in-law Chandro and Prakashi have spent their lifetime in an oppressed, feudal household- where women are identified through the colours of their dupattas, instead of face or personality. They may be working the most in the household, but are still submissive to the men in their lives. It's only when Doctor Yashpal (Vineet Singh) opens a shooting range in the village to churn out state-level champions, do the grandmothers, now in their 60s, take up shooting. They initially start shooting to inspire and encourage their granddaughters but subsequently find their calling and their voice. After years of hiding from the family and winning medals- there comes a point when they have to reveal their secret for the sake of their daughters. Would the family and society at large accept them?&nbsp;</p>

<p>The story, from the heartland of the country, has a lot to relate to. Women in rural as well as urban areas are often subjugated to patriarchal norms and unnecessary rules which not suppress their voice but also curb freedom. So in that sense, the story of ‘Saand Ki Aankh’ is a known one. You know how the story will pan out eventually yet its the treatment and the performance that keeps you glued to the seat. Without being too preachy, writers Jagdeep Siddhu (dialogues) and Balwinder Singh Janjua paint a very real picture where you feel the pain of these women. You understand why the two women feel suffocated in their own house. You heart goes out to the younger girls, who know they are more capable of winning medals than their brothers and yet are not allowed to pursue their dreams. &nbsp;</p>

<p>The film completely focuses on Bhumi Pednekar and Taapsee Pannu- and they do not disappoint. In a short period, both actresses have carved their niche in the film industry by playing spirited characters. In ‘Saand Ki Ankh’ too they play similar roles, but they adapt the dialect, the mannerisms of rural, uneducated, feisty women well. They fit in the milieu well. I found myself ever so often looking more at Pednekar than Pannu as the former brings in the right amount of restraint to her character Chandro. But the women complement each other well and deliver superlative performances. They share incredible camaraderie on screen and their bond is well reflected on screen.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Among the men, Vineet Kumar as their coach, mentor, and guide deliver a formidable performance. Prakash Jha also impresses as the conservative patriarch who doesn't believe in giving the women in his family a voice.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While the film is pertinent and enjoyable, it isn't completely devoid of flaws. The characters do not age well. The makeup is shoddy and quite an eyesore. The prosthetic used on two actresses are not well done and it is difficult to believe them as aged characters.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While the two actresses deliver in their respective parts, one can't help but wonder why the makers could not have cast senior actresses in these roles. They do have different sets of actors playing the husbands-younger and older- so what stopped them from doing the same in Chandro and Prakashi's case? Surely there is no dearth of senior actresses in this country who would perform equally well.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The film is also a bit long and could have been edited better. The whole ordeal of the four women leaving their homes at the break of dawn every day while the household sleeps appears to be repetitive after a point. And the narrative becomes a bit jumbled near the climax.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While there are these glaring flaws, it is the cast and the story that make&nbsp;'Saand Ki Aankh' a compelling watch. It celebrates women and their immense potential to juggle multiple roles with ease. It projects strong women who are willing to fight the odds for a better future and inspire countless others to speak up and find their calling in life.&nbsp;</p>

Sisters-in-law Chandro and Prakashi have spent their lifetime in an oppressed, feudal household- where women are identified through the colours of their dupattas, instead of face or personality. They may be working the most in the household, but are still submissive to the men in their lives. It's only when Doctor Yashpal (Vineet Singh) opens a shooting range in the village to churn out state-level champions, do the grandmothers, now in their 60s, take up shooting. They initially start shooting to inspire and encourage their granddaughters but subsequently find their calling and their voice. After years of hiding from the family and winning medals- there comes a point when they have to reveal their secret for the sake of their daughters. Would the family and society at large accept them? The story, from the heartland of the country, has a lot to relate to. Women in rural as well as urban areas are often subjugated to patriarchal norms and unnecessary rules which not suppress their voice but also curb freedom. So in that sense, the story of ‘Saand Ki Aankh’ is a known one. You know how the story will pan out eventually yet its the treatment and the performance that keeps you glued to the seat. Without being too preachy, writers Jagdeep Siddhu (dialogues) and Balwinder Singh Janjua paint a very real picture where you feel the pain of these women. You understand why the two women feel suffocated in their own house. You heart goes out to the younger girls, who know they are more capable of winning medals than their brothers and yet are not allowed to pursue their dreams. The film completely focuses on Bhumi Pednekar and Taapsee Pannu- and they do not disappoint. In a short period, both actresses have carved their niche in the film industry by playing spirited characters. In ‘Saand Ki Ankh’ too they play similar roles, but they adapt the dialect, the mannerisms of rural, uneducated, feisty women well. They fit in the milieu well. I found myself ever so often looking more at Pednekar than Pannu as the former brings in the right amount of restraint to her character Chandro. But the women complement each other well and deliver superlative performances. They share incredible camaraderie on screen and their bond is well reflected on screen. Among the men, Vineet Kumar as their coach, mentor, and guide deliver a formidable performance. Prakash Jha also impresses as the conservative patriarch who doesn't believe in giving the women in his family a voice. While the film is pertinent and enjoyable, it isn't completely devoid of flaws. The characters do not age well. The makeup is shoddy and quite an eyesore. The prosthetic used on two actresses are not well done and it is difficult to believe them as aged characters. While the two actresses deliver in their respective parts, one can't help but wonder why the makers could not have cast senior actresses in these roles. They do have different sets of actors playing the husbands-younger and older- so what stopped them from doing the same in Chandro and Prakashi's case? Surely there is no dearth of senior actresses in this country who would perform equally well. The film is also a bit long and could have been edited better. The whole ordeal of the four women leaving their homes at the break of dawn every day while the household sleeps appears to be repetitive after a point. And the narrative becomes a bit jumbled near the climax. While there are these glaring flaws, it is the cast and the story that make 'Saand Ki Aankh' a compelling watch. It celebrates women and their immense potential to juggle multiple roles with ease. It projects strong women who are willing to fight the odds for a better future and inspire countless others to speak up and find their calling in life.

<p>On Sunday, January 5,&nbsp;violence broke out inside the campus of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. A&nbsp;mob of masked men and women entered the campus and thrashed students and professors and vandalised hostels inside the campus. The attack left several seriously injured who were then rushed to AIIMS trauma centre.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The attack has been widely condemned by Bollywood celebrities including Sonam Kapoor, Shabana Azmi, Swara Bhasker,&nbsp;Riteish Deshmukh, and many others who took to social media to show their anger over the incident.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Earlier on Sunday evening, more than 18 students, including JNUSU President Aishe Ghosh, were injured and taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre after a masked mob entered the JNU and attacked them and professors with sticks and rods.<br />

Taapsee announced the upcoming project on Instagram while wishing Mithali on her 37th birthday. Taapsee`s wish for Mithali wasn`t a simple affair as she surprised fans with the big news. Wishing the birthday girl, the `Naam Shabana` actor assured her that she is all "prepared to learn the `cover drive`."<br />

The two will work in Vinil Mathew’s romantic thriller.</p>

<p>This will be Vinil’s second Bollywood venture as it rolls out in January, according to a report by Mumbai Mirror. A source was quoted in the report saying, “The makers thought a fresh pair would work in the film’s favour as it will keep the mystery element intact, since there will be no preconceived notions about them as a couple.”</p>

<p>The film will come six years after Vinil’s debut directorial, Parineeti Chopra-Sidharth Malhotra starrer ‘Hasee Toh Phasee’.</p>

But the antagonist has more presence in the film than the protagonist. But eventually the film releases, they call it an Amitabh Bachchan film.”</p>
