<p>The Narcotics Control Bureau on Wednesday detained one of Mumbai's 'biggest' drug suppliers and recovered his list of high profile clients which include several Bollywood celebrities. According to officials, this could be 'one of the last links' in the dugs case related to Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death.&nbsp;<br />

The accused, Azam Sheikh Jumman, had contacts with prominent Bollywood celebrities and allegedly procured drugs directly from Himachal Pradesh and gave them to other suppliers.&nbsp;<br />

Jumman was reportedly detained after multiple raids were conducted at various locations in Mumbai's Andheri West area, including his residence.<br />

He would formally be arrested after raids are completed. Jumman is expected to be brought to the NCB office in the coming days for further questioning.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
In the raids till now, the NCB has recovered and seized 5 kilograms of Malana Cream worth ₹ 2.5 crore, and small quantities of opioids (afeem) and MDMA, street name Ecstasy. The NCB officials also recovered ₹ 13.5 lakh in cash from him.&nbsp;A final assessment of the seizure is yet to be done, NCB officials told ANI.<br />

According to the agency's Zonal Director Sameer Wankhede, who is leading the operations, this is one of the "biggest" seizures of contraband in the recent days, and the biggest haul yet in the drugs case linked with actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death.<br />

Wednesday's raid was conducted after getting a tip of from drug supplier Regel Mahakal who has now been sent to two days of judicial custody.&nbsp;<br />

NCB officials state that Mahakal and Jumman were the missing links in the drugs case that it has been probing since the past few months.&nbsp;<br />

Mahakal reportedly had also supplied drugs to another accused Anuj Keshwani, who was arrested in September. Keshwani allegedly supplied drugs to Rhea Chakraborty and her boyfriend Sushant Singh Rajput, who was found dead in his Mumbai apartment in June this year.<br />

Rhea’s lawyer, Satish Maneshinde, has filed a reply to the petition. “Sushant was very much in Mumbai, Maharashtra and not in New Delhi. That is also surprising that Dr Tarun Kumar being a Cardiologist thought it is fit to prescribe medications to a person he did not know and had never met with Psychotropic substances. There is nothing to indicate that there was ever any teleconference held between Sushant and the accused doctor,” notes Rhea’s affidavit according to a report in India Today.&nbsp;<br />

Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his apartment in Mumbai on June 14. The NCB had arrested Rhea on charges of procuring and giving illegal drugs to the actor. She is out on bail. His family had filed a case against Rhea accusing her of abetting his suicide.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A week after the AIIMS-Delhi submitted its report to the CBI in Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput`s death case overruling the murder angle, the legal team of the actor's family has written to CBI Director Rishi Kumar Shukla stating that the medico-legal report by the AIIMS medical board was "faulty".<br />

In the letter, the legal team represented by Varun Singh said, "I have been reading in the media about the forensic report submitted by the AIIMS to the CBI with regard to the opinion expressed by the agency in the matter of Sushant Singh Rajput`s death on June 14. I have also seen some doctors on the AIIMS team come on TV and make statements with regard to the forensic examination done by the team."<br />
<br />
The letter said that despite several efforts to get a copy of the report, there was no response from AIIMS board head Dr Sudhir Gupta. "I am accordingly writing this letter on the premise that the news report regarding the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) opinion is correct."<br />
<br />
"The leaked report, if correct, amounts to drawing a biased and boastful conclusion from insufficient evidence," the letter further said.<br />
<br />
Raising questions, the letter said that AIIMS was not to do a post-mortem but only to express its opinion on an autopsy report submitted by Mumbai`s Cooper Hospital as the AIIMS did not get to examine Sushant`s body and thus form a firsthand opinion about the cause of death.<br />
<br />
"Dr Sudhir Gupta has been giving media interviews about the sensitive case right from Day One, questioning Cooper Hospital doctors for the `dubious` autopsy and Maharashtra Police for a hurried post-mortem and contamination and non-preservation of the scene of crime," the letter added.<br />
<br />
The letter also pointed to various other infirmities like the post-mortem done at the Mumbai hospital in the night without any Magistrate`s order for such an exercise, no videotaping of autopsy, and non-preservation of sufficient viscera for future examination.<br />
<br />
In the letter, the legal team said that Cooper Hospital doctors` post-mortem report did not mention injuries on the body and thus no opinion on the cause of such injuries. "The protocol necessary to be observed in such post-mortems was not followed, as opined by several forensic experts from all over the world," the legal team observed.<br />
<br />
"There were several other infirmities that could be pointed out by a genuine forensic examination but, somehow, the same were left out by the AIIMS team, as expressed by one of the doctors in his interview telecast by a TV channel," the letter read.<br />
<br />
The team also raised questions on the conduct of Dr Sudhir Gupta and called him unethical and unprofessional<br />
The legal team asserted that the AIIMS report, if at all, could have only specified the cause of death, that is, by hanging and could not have gone on to say that it was a case of suicide because that is something which only the CBI can decide after complete investigation.<br />
<br />
"The CBI may also inquire into the circumstances that led Dr Gupta to indulge in such unprofessional conduct that threatens to jeopardise the course of investigation and help wrong-doers escape the clutches of law. It is requested only such medical report that is true appraisal of available evidence is relied upon and not the present one that patently seems to be a fictional concoction to help the culprits," said the legal team.</p>

<p>The AIIMS panel report questioned the absence of timing of death in the Cooper Hospital`s autopsy report and pointed towards dimly-lit post-mortem room at the Mumbai hospital, sources said, adding that poisoning angle too was ruled out.<br />

Sushant`s autopsy was done by three Cooper Hospital doctors on June 14 night. He was found dead at his apartment in Mumbai on the same day.<br />

The CBI officials have remained tight-lipped on the AIIMS report. Dr Gupta, meanwhile, in a statement said that the AIIMS Medical Board has expressed very clearly and conclusively its final medico-legal opinion in this case.</p>

Sushant Singh Rajput's family questions AIIMS' 'faulty' report

<p>Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death left the entire nation in shock. While the Mumbai Police termed his death as a case of suicide, his family and many of his fans alleged that the actor was infact murdered.<br />

The Mumbai Police, which had initially probed the case before it was transfered to CBI, has now claimed that over 80 thousand fake accounts were created on social media to discredit the department and the role of Maharashtra government in the ongoing investigation around the 34-year-old actor's death.<br />

According to a report in Hindustan Times, Mumbai police’s cyber unit has made a report where it has been found that posts were uploaded on social media platforms from countries like Italy, Japan, Poland, Slovenia, Indonesia, Turkey, Thailand, Romania and France.<br />
<br />
“We identified the posts in foreign languages because of the hashtags used like #justiceforsushant #sushantsinghrajput and #SSR. We’re in the process of verifying more accounts,” said a senior IPS officer to the publication.<br />
<br />
Mumbai Police has now asked the cyber cell to investigate and register cases under the Information Technology Act. The Police commisioner stated that the fake accounts were created to malign the image of the department and demoralise the force while it was probing the case.<br />

AIIMS has ruled out murder angle in the actor's death case. The Mumbai police commissioner said, “We had investigated this case very professionally. The CBI had created a panel of AIIMS doctors who have justified our investigation and the findings of Cooper hospital and forensic laboratory. Except for a few people, nobody else was aware of our investigation still many have criticized the investigation.”<br />
<br />
Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his Mumbai residence on June 14. According to the police, the actor was suffering from depression. The case is still being investigated by the CBI.</p>

According to a report in Hindustan Times, Mumbai police’s cyber unit has made a report where it has been found that posts were uploaded on social media platforms from countries like Italy, Japan, Poland, Slovenia, Indonesia, Turkey, Thailand, Romania and France. “We identified the posts in foreign languages because of the hashtags used like #justiceforsushant #sushantsinghrajput and #SSR. We’re in the process of verifying more accounts,” said a senior IPS officer to the publication. Mumbai Police has now asked the cyber cell to investigate and register cases under the Information Technology Act. The Police commisioner stated that the fake accounts were created to malign the image of the department and demoralise the force while it was probing the case. AIIMS has ruled out murder angle in the actor's death case. The Mumbai police commissioner said, “We had investigated this case very professionally. The CBI had created a panel of AIIMS doctors who have justified our investigation and the findings of Cooper hospital and forensic laboratory. <p>Last week, Rhea's brother <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/rhea-chakrabortys-brother-showik-and-sushants-house-manager-samuel-miranda-arrested-by-narcotics-bureau-325278">Showik Chakraborty and Sushant's house manager Samuel Miranda </a>too were arrested for possession and selling of drugs.<br />

Rhea is one of the prime accused in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. The Central Bureau of Investigation is still probing the case.<br />
<br />
According to reports, Rhea will be taken for a medical test later today and will be produced in front of the court on Thursday.</p>

<p>Two months after Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput's untimely death, the debate around nepotism refuses to die down. Since June 14, when Sushant was found dead at his Mumbai apartment, the dark and murky side of showbiz has come to light tarnishing the image of one of India's biggest soft power, Bollywood.<br />

On Friday, the Producers Guild of India shared an open letter on its official Twitter page and said while it accepted that the film industry was not perfect, it was pertinent to understand that Bollywood was one of the most important sources of soft power for the nation at a global level.<br />
<br />
Following theSushant's death celebrities like Kangana Ranaut have opened up about nepotism and drug abuse in Bollywood. While she has been castigating the industry for the nepotism tendencies of certain influential filmmakers, Kangana recently claimed that 99 per cent of Bollywood was on drugs.<br />
<br />
In a statement issued on Friday, the Guild said, "The last few months have seen relentless attacks on the reputation of the Indian film industry across all media. The tragic death of a promising young star has been used by some as a tool to defame and slander the film industry and its members."<br />
<br />
"A picture has been painted of the industry as a terrible place for outsiders to aspire to; a place that treats those who dare to enter it with contempt and derision; a murky den of substance abuse and criminality. <strong>This narrative is salacious enough for the media to exploit to great effect in order to boost its ratings, readership and page views."</strong></p>

<p>But it is not the truth, the Guild asserted.<br />
<br />
"Like any other sector there is no doubt that the film industry has its imperfections, and there must always be an ongoing attempt by any industry to improve upon itself, learn and evolve, while weeding out unsavoury elements or improper practices that hold it back. But to paint an entire industry with the same brush is a gross misrepresentation of reality," read the statement.</p>

<p>The industry has contributed generously to "national causes in times of need, and has readily offered its resources,name, recognition, time and funds - whenever called upon to do so, and often even without having to be called upon".</p>

<p>They agreed that it`s not easy to enter the industry and there are struggles.</p>

The tragic death of a promising young star has been used by some as a tool to defame and slander the film industry and its members." "A picture has been painted of the industry as a terrible place for outsiders to aspire to; a place that treats those who dare to enter it with contempt and derision; a murky den of substance abuse and criminality. This narrative is salacious enough for the media to exploit to great effect in order to boost its ratings, readership and page views." But it is not the truth, the Guild asserted. "Like any other sector there is no doubt that the film industry has its imperfections, and there must always be an ongoing attempt by any industry to improve upon itself, learn and evolve, while weeding out unsavoury elements or improper practices that hold it back. Producers Guild Of India slams 'relentless attacks' on film industry's reputation, addresses controversy around drugs and nepotism

<p>The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Friday carried out early morning raids at the homes of Rhea Chakraborty and Sushant Singh Rajput's house manager Samuel Miranda.<br />

The NCB subsequently took Rhea's brother Showik and Miranda for questioning at its office after conducting searches for two hours.<br />

Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his Bandra flat here on June 14. As the scope of the probe keeps increasing every day since the Enforcement Directorate, CBI and the NCB joined in -- the drug angle has thrown up a number of leads.</p>

<p>Around 6.30 am, the NCB teams started the raids, which came a day after the Mumbai court sent alleged drug peddler Zaid Vilatra to seven-day NCB custody.<br />

The NCB registered a case on August 26 after the Enforcement Directorate wrote to it. On the intervening night of August 27-28, the narco team carried out searches in Mumbai and two persons, namely Abbas Lakhani and Karan Arora were arrested, and `bud` (curated marijuana) was recovered from their possession.<br />

The official had said that the detailed network analysis and the follow up investigation, uncovered the links between Lakhani and Vilatra, who also disclosed that he earns a substantial amount of money by drug peddling, especially bud.<br />
NCB source said that Parihar had connections with Miranda, who was also the close associate of Rhea. Miranda is accused of procuring drugs on the instructions of Showik.<br />
<br />
The NCB registered a case against Rhea, her brother Showik, talent manager Jaya Saha, Sushant`s co-manager Shruti Modi, and Goa-based hotelier Gaurav Arya under Sections 20 (b) 28, 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.<br />
<br />
The NCB case was registered following the WhatsApp messages between Rhea and Shruti Modi, Miranda and Pithani were accessed by ED.</p>

The ED had on July 31 registered an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) in the late actor`s death case after a First Information Report (FIR) was filed by Rajput`s father KK Singh against actor Rhea Chakraborty in Bihar on July 28.<br />

On August 19, the Supreme Court had asked the probe agency to investigate the case related to the actor`s death, while holding that the FIR registered in Patna was legitimate.The agency has registered an FIR against Chakraborty and others in connection with the actor`s death after the Centre accepted Bihar government`s recommendation to transfer the probe in the matter from Patna.</p>

<p>Breaking her silence for the first time since Sushant Singh Rajput's death in June, actress Rhea Chakraborty addressed all the accusations levied against her in a tell-all interview to a TV channel.<br />

Rhea along with her family members has been accused of abetment of suicide and misappropriating Rajput's wealth by the actor's family.<br />

Denying charges of taking Rs 15 crores from Sushant, Rhea spoke in detail about the now controversial Europe trip that the couple had gone on in the summer of 2019. Rhea said she was set to go to Paris on a professional assignment and it was in fact Rajput's idea to extend it and make it a Europe trip. According to Rhea, Rajput cancelled the tickets booked by the company that was sponsoring her trip. She said her brother joined them in Italy at the insistence of the late actor.<br />
"He paid for the rest of the trip and the hotels. He wanted to and I didn't have a problem with that. I had a problem with how much he was spending. But Sushant lived king-size, he was like that," she said, adding that the actor once went on a trip to Thailand with his friends and spent "Rs 70 lakh on that vacation."<br />

"These were his lifestyle choices. Who are we to say how Sushant should live his life? He lived like a star, he loved it. It was his choice to take those men on that trip, did they also force him? No, I was not living off Sushant Singh Rajput's money. We were living like a couple, she said in the interview.<br />

Asked about why her brother Showik joined them on their Europe trip, Chakraborty said all three of them had formed an artificial intelligence company called Rhealytix, which was named after her and invested Rs 33,000 each in the firm.<br />
When Rhea was asked why she did not make it to his funeral, the actress said she was not on the list attendees for his funeral as "his family members don't like me."<br />

Chakraborty said she wanted to attend the funeral but dropped the idea at the suggestion of her friends as the family did not want her there.<br />

Chakraborty said two of her friends told her to see his body to get closure. She said she saw Rajput's body for three-four seconds 'said sorry and touched his feet'.<br />

"Yes, I said 'Sorry babu'. When you see a dead person, what else will you say? I said sorry as he was no more. When you love someone and they die, you say sorry. Sorry that you aren't here. Sorry that a joke has been made out of your death," she said.<br />

Asked about allegations that she was controlling Rajput's lifestyle and staff, Chakraborty rubbished them as 'baseless' and most of the staff were either hired by Rajput and his sister Priyanka.<br />

Asked when she got to know about Rajput's mental condition or the fact that he was bipolar, Chakraborty said it was during their Europe trip.<br />
<br />
Rajput, she was told, used to get claustrophobic during flights and took medicines.<br />
<br />
"We landed in Paris first and he didn't come out of his room for the first three days. I wondered what the matter was. He was so excited that we will go to Paris so that no one recognises him. So that he could show me his real self which was his fun nature. That he could walk on the streets, something which he could not do in India.<br />
<br />
"But he didn't come out of his room. He was much better when we went to Switzerland next. He was high on energy and he had started getting out, he was happy," she said.<br />
<br />
The actor said when they went to Italy, they stayed in a gothic hotel and had "weird dome-like structure and strange photos."<br />
<br />
Chakraborty talked about checking out "but he didn't listen to me."<br />
<br />
"After that, his condition started getting worse little by little. He didn't want to come out of the room on the whole trip. I talked to him and he told me that he had an episode of depression in 2013," he said.<br />
<br />
"Then he told me everything, that he was better after meeting the psychiatrist. He used to get anxiety attacks many times. But he had started feeling more depressed and worried. So we had to cut our trip short. If your partner is not feeling well, what else will you do? You'll come back," she said.<br />

Chakraborty said her 'media trial' was a 'witch hunt'.<br />

"Loving someone has become the most wanted crime," she said, adding that she now just wanted to take a 'deep breath' and have a normal day with her family where someone is not facing an anxiety attack.<br />

Chakraborty also claimed that Rajput did not share a good relationship with his father KK Singh.<br />

Referring to her July 16 post on Instagram where she had tagged Home Minister Amit Shah, requesting for a CBI inquiry, Chakraborty said she had cooperated with the Mumbai Police and was doing the same with the Enforcement Directorate and CBI.<br />

"Am I not allowed to prove my innocence?" Chakraborty asked, adding that all kinds of stories were being made about her. Rhea had left Sushant's house on June 8 and the actor died by suicide on June 14. Avoiding to call it a suicide or a murder, the actress said even she wanted to know what transpired in four days that Rajput decided to take such a drastic step.<br />

In Supreme Court, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the central government, submitted before a single-judge bench of Justice Hrishikesh Roy that the Centre has accepted the Bihar government`s request recommending a CBI inquiry into the Sushant Singh Rajput death case.<br />

The apex court was hearing a petition filed by Chakraborty seeking directions to transfer the case registered regarding the late actor`s death in Bihar`s Patna to Mumbai.When asked about on Mumbai Police not relieving Patna SP Vinay Tiwari from quarantine, Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) Gupteshwar Pandey said, "Mumbai Police isn`t even following orders of Supreme Court. They must give in writing if they don`t want to obey the Supreme Court order or they should state clearly that they have arrested him."<br />
<br />
Tiwari, who reached Mumbai for probe in Rajput case, has been quarantined by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials till August 15.</p>

The actor's father in later July filed an FIR in Patna against the actor's girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty on charges of abetment of suicide and financial cheating. Meanwhile, Chakraborty had filed a petition at the Supreme Court appealing that Sushant's case is handled by Mumbai police.</p>

<p>The Mumbai police have so far interrogated nearly 50 people in relation to the case. This includes filmmakers Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Aditya Chopra, Mahesh Bhatt, film critic Rajeev Masand and Rhea Chakraborty.</p>
