IPL 2020, CSK vs KXIP Preview: Kings XI Punjab play do-or-die match against Chennai

Diogo Jota capped Liverpool's dramatic fightback as the Premier League champions beat West Ham 2-1 to move three points clear at the top, while Manchester City and Chelsea both won to keep in touch with the leaders on Saturday.

Jurgen Klopp's side were rocked by Pablo Fornals' early strike at Anfield as the West Ham midfielder punished a poor header from Joe Gomez in the 10th minute.

The Reds drew level in the 42nd minute when Mohamed Salah was fouled by Arthur Masuaku and the Egyptian stepped up to convert the penalty for his eighth goal of the season.

Liverpool thought they had claimed the lead with just over 10 minutes remaining when substitute Jota turned in a loose ball.

Jota had pounced after Lukasz Fabianski saved Sadio Mane's shot but after a lengthy delay that saw referee Kevin Friend make use of the pitchside monitor, the goal was ruled out for a foul by the Senegal winger.

In the 85th minute, Jota ran onto Xherdan Shaqiri's pass to score his fourth goal since joining from Wolves in September.

It was Liverpool's fourth successive victory since influential defender Virgil van Dijk was sidelined for several months with a serious knee injury suffered against Everton.

Despite their defensive issues this term, Liverpool have opened up a three-point lead over second placed Everton, with their Merseyside rivals in action at Newcastle on Sunday.

"It's not about shining, or flying, or whatever, it's about hard work. That was absolutely necessary against this opponent," Klopp said after Liverpool equalled their club record of 63 home league games unbeaten.

"We had a lot of good football, not 500 chances or whatever but enough. I want to see us dig in and we did that, and I'm so happy."

While Liverpool were completing their win, government officials confirmed the Premier League could continue despite a new national lockdown that will last until at least December.

"The world is in a difficult place and we are happy to be allowed to play football," Klopp said.

Title rivals City have yet to hit the free-scoring form of Pep Guardiola's side at their best, as for the third consecutive league game they were held to a solitary goal.

But Kyle Walker's long-range strike against his former club was good enough to earn a 1-0 win at goal-shy Sheffield United.

It was his first goal for a year in his 100th Premier League appearance for City.

A fourth win in five games in all competition edges City up to eighth, five points behind Liverpool.

And there was another boost for City after the game as Guardiola ruled out a return to Barcelona despite interest from presidential candidates at the Catalan giants to bring the club's most successful ever coach back to the Camp Nou.

"I said many times, my period as a manager in Barcelona is over," said Guardiola, whose contract at the Etihad expires at the end of the season.

"I am incredibly happy here, still I have the desire to do well and this is the most important thing."

<h2>- Chelsea hit their stride -</h2>

Chelsea are also finding their form after a slow start to the season as Frank Lampard's men ran out 3-0 winners at Burnley to stretch their unbeaten run to nine games.

Hakim Ziyech was handed his first Premier League start after scoring in a 4-0 Champions League win away to Krasnodar in midweek and the Moroccan's shot wrong-footed Nick Pope to open the floodgates for the visitors on 26 minutes.

Kurt Zouma's bullet header then doubled Chelsea's advantage from Mason Mount's corner just after the hour mark.

Timo Werner was due to be rested until an injury in the warm-up to Christian Pulisic forced the German international into Lampard's line-up.

And Werner rounded off an excellent second-half performance from the Blues with a fine finish from Ziyech's pass.

After much criticism of his side's defending, Lampard will be equally delighted at a fourth straight clean sheet as Chelsea moved up to fourth place.

Jota caps Liverpool fightback as Man City, Chelsea win

Lewis Hamilton admitted to a surprise and a sad memory on Friday after arriving at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari ahead of this weekend's Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

The surprise came, he said, on learning about Formula One's proposals for a drivers' salary cap to begin in 2023.

The sadness, he said, hit him as he recalled the death of his childhood racing hero Ayrton Senna when he passed the memorial statue at Tamburello corner, where &nbsp;the Brazilian &nbsp;died in 1994.

Five days on from his record-breaking 92nd victory at last Sunday's Portuguese Grand Prix, the six-time champion was back at work and facing a barrage of questions about the past, the present and the future.

He said talk of a salary cap was unexpected, but it had nothing to do with any delay in his negotiations for a new contract with Mercedes. The talks are officially on hold until the drivers' and constructors' championships are settled.

"From a drivers' point of view, it's a surprise," said Hamilton, when asked about the outcome of last Monday's F1 Commission meeting at which all ten teams supported the idea.

"We'd heard of the idea a while ago, but it's the first we've heard of it again this week – I think it's important that the GPDA (Grand Prix Drivers' Association) work closely with F1 and get into discussions."

This weekend's race will be Hamilton's first as an F1 driver at Imola, which, he said, that evoked emotions as he inspected the track.&nbsp;

"Obviously, the history of 1994 is something we always remember," he said. "I went 'round today and it was a really special lap, just going round and seeing this historic track, passing the harsh reminder of where Ayrton crashed...

"It is very surreal still for me, when I go to places where you know that the greats of the past have raced like the tunnel at Monaco or Silverstone...

"Earlier on, I was in an area where many years, 26 years ago, Ayrton was here doing what he loved, as I am.

"So, in one way, that's heart-warming, to know that I was able to be here and do what he was doing 26 years ago, but otherwise it's just another race."

Hamilton said he recalled May 1, 1994, the day of Senna's death, vividly.

As a nine-year-old boy, he remembers he was helping his father Anthony repair his kart at a British junior race meeting.

"I don't know how he got the news, but someone told him that Ayrton had died," he said.

"And I remember I had to walk away from my dad because he would never let me cry in front of him so I had to go to a different place. It wasn't easy.

"I remember trying to channel that sadness into my driving and I think I won that weekend, but the following weeks were very tough."

This weekend, Hamilton and team-mate Valtteri Bottas aim to wrap up Mercedes record seventh consecutive constructors' championship as he heads towards his own seventh drivers' title.

Hamilton saddened ahead of first F1 race at Imola

Pep Guardiola said Friday he would like to "stay longer" amid speculation at least one of the candidates to be the next president of Barcelona would like to bring the celebrated manager back to the Nou Camp.

Guardiola is in the final year of his contract with City, a situation that had already led to plenty of debate about his future, before Barcelona presidential candidate Victor Font suggested he could return to the Catalan club, where his trophy haul included a pair of Champions League titles.

But when those comments were put to him during a Friday news conference, Guardiola replied: "I am incredibly happy here. I'm delighted to be in Manchester and I hope I can do a good job this season to stay longer."

Although Guardiola has won two Premier League titles since joining City from German giants Bayern Munich in 2016, European glory has proved elusive during his time at the Etihad.

Injuries have disrupted City's start to this season, with Guardiola's men in a lowly 13th place in the English top flight ahead of their match away to Sheffield United on Saturday.

Guardiola said City's plight had been made worse by a shortened pre-season break and a fixture programme compressed by the demands of the coronavirus pandemic.

And that led him to argue the Premier League should revert to allowing five substitutes, as happened during the closing stages of last season after lockdown.

"Definitely they should, they should 100 percent," he said. "It's not about one club.

"There are statistics that they don't deny -- that in the Premier League players have 47 per cent more muscular injuries than the previous season, due to no preparation for most of the teams and the amount of games.

"All the leagues -- Germany, Spain, everywhere -- (allow) five substitutions to protect the players, not to protect one team. Hopefully they can reconsider and do what the rest of the world does because we have to adjust to the pandemic situation and other things.

"The reality is completely different now to before. Intelligent people adjust to the situation in the world - football is about the players. We'll see."

Novak Djokovic shrugged off his heaviest defeat on Friday by insisting he had achieved his goal of wrapping up the year-end world number one spot for a record-equalling sixth time.

Djokovic was stunned 6-2, 6-1 by Italian lucky loser Lorenzo Sonego in the quarter-finals of the Vienna ATP tournament.

But having won two rounds in the Austrian capital, 33-year-old Djokovic is virtually guaranteed equalling Pete Sampras's record of securing the year-ending top ranking for the sixth time.

"Clinching the year-end number one had an effect on me," Djokovic told a news conference.

"I have done what I came here for, securing the number one. And I'm completely fine with today's result.

"I'm healthy and looking forward to a strong finish in London (the season-ending ATP Finals)".

Italian Sonego, ranked 42 and who had intially lost in qualifying last weekend, is the first lucky loser ever to beat Djokovic.

The only other time Djokovic had won just three games was at the 2005 Australian Open at the hands of Marat Safin in a best-of-five set encounter.

"He just blew me off the court, that's all," Djokovic told atptour.com.&nbsp;

"He was better in every segment of the game. It was a pretty bad match from my side, but amazing from his side.&nbsp;

"He definitely deserved this result," added the Serb star who was playing his first tournament since his Roland Garros final defeat to Rafal Nadal three weeks ago.

<h2>- 'Unbelievable, amazing' -</h2>

Djokovic can only be denied the end of year world number one ranking if Nadal takes an unlikely wild card into the Sofia tournament next month.

The Spaniard has already said, however, that travelling to Bulgaria after next week's Paris Masters and before London is not on his agenda.

Sonego fired 26 winners past Djokovic who lost for only the third time in 2020 against 39 victories

Djokovic, a 17-time major champion, managed just seven winners against 25 unforced errors.

"For sure it's the best victory of my life. Novak is the best in the world. Today I played so, so good," Sonego said.

"It's unbelievable. It's amazing. I played the best match in my life. I'm so happy for this."

Sonego goes on to face Britain's Dan Evans, who defeated Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria 7-6 (7/3), 4-6, 6-3, for a place in Sunday's final.

Second seed and defending champion Dominic Thiem also lost Friday, going down 7-6 (7/5), 6-2 to Russian world number eight Andrey Rublev.

Rublev hit 30 winners past the US Open champion and goes on to face South Africa's Kevin Anderson for a place in the final.

"I came here with the mood that I have nothing to lose," said Rublev who is chasing a fifth title of the year.

"I had already a really great season. I came here with zero expectations, just wanting to do my best. To try to fight every match. At the end, I am here in the semi-finals."

Anderson made the semi-finals by accounting for Russian fourth seed Daniil Medvedev 6-4, 7-6 (7/5).

It was 2018 champion Anderson's first top 10 win in two years.

'I did what I came for': Djokovic suffers heaviest loss but securing top spot priority

Teenage defender Rayan Ait-Nouri marked his Wolves debut with a goal as the Midlands club beat Crystal Palace 2-0 at Molineux on Friday to move up into third place in the Premier League.

Victory put Wolves level on points with the leading Merseyside duo of Everton and reigning champions Liverpool ahead of the bulk of this weekend's fixtures.

France Under-21 left-back Ait-Nouri joined Wolves on a season-long loan&nbsp;-- with an option to buy -- from Ligue 1 Angers this month.

It took him just 18 minutes to open the scoring with a first-time shot.

Portuguese winger Daniel Podence doubled Wolves' lead nine minutes later, when he turned in Pedro Neto's cross from close range.

"For Rayan Ait-Nouri I am really pleased because it is the first game and what a better start can he have?" Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo told the BBC.

"He is 19 with a lot of things to improve. He has to get so many things on board and that's the work."

Wolves almost had a third goal before half-time as Nelson Semedo and Leander Dendoncker went close with long-range efforts.

"I think we were good but we should play better," added Nuno.&nbsp;

"We started well. We had a good team in front of us. At the end of the first half we slowed down our pressure and Palace had chances."

Meanwhile, Nuno said being deprived of their passionate fans, with spectators barred from grounds because of British government Covid-19 protocols, made home games tough for Wolves.

"It's all about the performance, the table is not important," he insisted.

"The work is important. Playing without fans requires a lot of focus, we haven't the edge of Molineux."

VAR denied Palace a penalty when Palace's Patrick van Aanholt was found to be offside, before being fouled by Willy Boly.

Palace's defeat was made worse when when Luka Milivojevic was sent off late on following a VAR review of his challenge on Wolves substitute Joao Moutinho.

Defeat left the south London side ninth in the table, with Palace manager Roy Hodgson unconvinced by Milivojevic's dismissal.

"I'm not disappointed with how the players played for most of the game," said Hodgson. "But I'm disappointed with that opening 20-minute spell."

The former England manager added: "I spoke to the referee about the red card. I made my views clear. I don't think it was a red card. It was a fair challenge."

He has to get so many things on board and that's the work." Wolves almost had a third goal before half-time as Nelson Semedo and Leander Dendoncker went close with long-range efforts. "I think we were good but we should play better," added Nuno. "We started well. We had a good team in front of us. At the end of the first half we slowed down our pressure and Palace had chances." Meanwhile, Nuno said being deprived of their passionate fans, with spectators barred from grounds because of British government Covid-19 protocols, made home games tough for Wolves. "It's all about the performance, the table is not important," he insisted. "The work is important. Playing without fans requires a lot of focus, we haven't the edge of Molineux." VAR denied Palace a penalty when Palace's Patrick van Aanholt was found to be offside, before being fouled by Willy Boly. "But I'm disappointed with that opening 20-minute spell." The former England manager added: "I spoke to the referee about the red card. I made my views clear. I don't think it was a red card. It was a fair challenge."

West Indies batsman Chris Gayle has been fined for throwing his bat in frustration after missing out on a record-extending seventh IPL century by one run.

The 41-year-old, who became the first batsman in Twenty20 history to hit 1,000 sixes during his 99 innings for King's XI Punjab, was fined 10 percent of his match fee for a "code of conduct" violation, said an Indian Premier League statement.

"Mr Gayle admitted to the Level 1 offence 2.2 of the IPL's Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction," it added.

The statement did not give details of his action, but throwing bats and other equipment normally comes under this offence.

The left-hander was bowled in the final over by Rajasthan Royals' Jofra Archer after his 66-ball blitz that included eight sixes.

Gayle then flung his bat, which hit the ground and bounced away. He appeared to apologise to the umpire before walking off.

Punjab went down by seven wickets to the Royals and must win their final game on Sunday to stand a chance of reaching the IPL playoffs.

Gayle has scored three half-centuries in six innings this year for Punjab, who are fourth in the eight-team table.

Valterri Bottas snatches pole from Lewis Hamilton as F1 returns to Imola

Formula One fears that COVID-19 lockdowns across Europe could hit the sport again as Lewis Hamilton eyes a record-equalling seventh world title, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff said.

Speaking ahead of the weekend’s Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, the third F1 race to be held in Italy in a virus-hit season, Wolff said developments surrounding the dreaded virus and lockdown situations were worrying signs for F1.&nbsp;

"The situation is becoming more difficult," he said at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari on Friday. "F1 does not put anyone in danger as we stay in our microcosm, but we also cannot ignore that the number of cases in various countries is growing rapidly.

"At some point, the leaders of these countries may decide to close the borders which may affect our plans."
Wolff further said that F1 Chief Executive Chase Carey has assured that the schedule remains as it is but added that situation can change rapidly. He also sounded worried about F1’s plans of an unprecedented 23-race season in 2021.

"As of now, Chase Carey (F1 chief executive) has assured us that the schedule remains in place," he said. "But he also said that, against the backdrop of a progressing pandemic, no one knows what the situation will be in a week -- let alone a month."

Meanwhile, discussions are underway about a proposed salary cap on Formula One drivers with teams supportive of the idea.

As per the proposal, a $30 million cap for teams to pay drivers, starting from 2023. All teams can spend more but it has to come out of what will be a $135 million annual budget caps for teams by 2023.

Manchester United forwards will be a real threat in the ongoing <a href="https://www.wionews.com/topics/premier-league">Premier League 2020-21</a> season, according to Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta as the Gunners gear up to face the Red Devils at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Manchester United troika Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood combined for 62 goals in all competition last season with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer powering their attack by signing Uruguayan forward Edinson Cavani during the transfer window.

With the likes of Daniel James and Odion Ighalo also in the ranks, Arteta said United can be flexible with their style of play.&nbsp;

"They create really good relationships and they're all very different. They glide together, have a really good understanding and chemistry on the pitch. You can see that," Arteta told Arsenal's website here.

“They can play two or three different formations... they’ve been changing some things because of the opponents, because of the quality of players they have and sometimes to change the game in certain moments.

Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma has missed three games for his franchise in the ongoing <a href="https://www.wionews.com/ipl">Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020</a> owing to a hamstring injury. While Rohit hasn’t been ruled out of IPL 2020, he was not picked in any of India’s squad for the upcoming Australian tour.

While plenty of questions have been raised on Rohit’s fitness dilemma, a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) functionary has given an update on the current situation surrounding Rohit and his injury.

"Rohit will be assessed tomorrow and a call will be taken after that on whether he is good to go. As is the case with hamstring injuries, the real challenge is the sprints and the acceleration and deceleration process will be the focus to understand if he has recovered fully or will need a little more time," the functionary told news agency ANI.

While Rohit has suffered a hamstring injury, whether it is serious or not remains a mystery. Rohit continues to train with the Mumbai Indians team and is being treated by MI’s medical team in the UAE.

The functionary explained, in a hamstring injury, which isn’t a Grade II tear, a player can walk or even play normal shots but the problem is during quick sprints and running between the wickets.

This is when the focus is 100 per cent on the functionality of the hamstring muscles. So, if you have recovered completely, you wouldn't have an issue in either acceleration or deceleration."

The Indian team is expected to reach Sydney, Australia on November 12 and Rohit could still make the cut of the all-important tour if he recovers from the injury blow.

World Cup winner Megan Rapinoe and Olympic Gold medallist Sue Bird get engaged

The batting unit of Rajasthan Royals fired collectively to provide them with their second-straight win in the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/ipl">Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020</a>, against Kings XI Punjab on Friday, as the action continued in the T20 tournament. In what was a must-win match for RR, the Steve Smith-led outfit bagged the win with seven wickets in hand and 15 deliveries to spare.

After the crucial win, RR captain Smith said that they are peaking at the right time while adding it was nice to get over the line early as it helps the net run-rate.

“Couple of games tomorrow [on Saturday], we will be watching them closely and then will be good to go day after,” Smith said in the post-match interview.

However, Smith conceded that a couple of wins in between the tournament would have helped Rajasthan Royals’ cause as he said the team have ebbed and flowed during the course of the tournament thus far.&nbsp;

“We have sort of ebbed and flowed through the tournament. But it would have been great to win a few in the middle. But it is about peaking at the right time. We still need to do our bit. It’s nice to get over the line comfortably. It helps the net run rate,” Smith said.

Whereas Kings XI Punjab skipper KL Rahul said the dew didn’t help KXIP while making batting easier for RR in the second innings.

“It was a horrible toss to lose to be honest. It did get very easy to bat later on. There was a lot of dew in the second half and that made it a bit tough for the bowlers to grip the ball. When you're operating with two leg spinners like we are, it does make things difficult,” KL Rahul said.

“Don't think we bowled that badly but need to operate better with the wet ball. The dew has been unpredictable this season. You can't prepare for it but need to adapt to it,” the skipper added.

Tottenham Hotspur slumped to a shock 1-0 Europa League defeat at Royal Antwerp on Thursday, while Serie A leaders AC Milan eased to victory over Sparta Prague.

Jose Mourinho's Spurs failed to create a single chance of note in a lifeless display, with Gareth Bale, who rejoined the club on loan from Real Madrid in the close-season, lasting less than an hour before being substituted.

The surprise win takes Antwerp to the top of the early Group J table after their opening 2-1 victory at Ludogorets last week.

The Belgian outfit are playing in the main stage of a European competition for the first time since a UEFA Cup first-round loss to Newcastle United in 1994.

The hosts took the lead just before the half-hour mark, with Dieumerci Mbokani robbing makeshift Spurs centre-back Ben Davies before feeding Israeli forward Lior Refaelov to drill a fierce shot into the corner.

Antwerp wasted a golden chance to double the lead in the 54th minute, as Congolese striker Mbokani contrived to fire the ball over an open net when only three yards from goal.

Mourinho threw on Harry Kane and Son Heung-min for Bale and Dele Alli in search of an equaliser, but again it was their opponents who should have scored when Norwegian wing-back Simen Jukleroed ran clean through on goal and blazed wildly over the bar.

Spurs dominated possession but never seriously threatened, and the Antwerp players were able to celebrate a famous triumph in an empty stadium.

Milan made it two wins from two in Group H with a 3-0 success over Sparta, despite Zlatan Ibrahimovic missing a first-half penalty.

Goals from Brahim Diaz, Rafael Leao and on-loan Manchester United wing-back Diogo Dalot saw Milan extend their unbeaten run to 24 matches in all competitions.

Stefano Pioli's side sit two points clear of Lille at the top of the group, after the French outfit fought back from two goals down to grab a 2-2 home draw with Celtic.

Jamie Vardy netted a spot-kick as Leicester City made it back-to-back victories in Group G with a 2-1 win at AEK Athens, while Paco Alcacer scored a late double as Villarreal saw off Qarabag 3-1 in Group I.

Spurs stunned by Antwerp, Milan cruise to victory

Lewis Hamilton may go on to win 10 world titles, but his status as the greatest could be undermined by a lack of true rivals, according to two of Britain's best-known former racers.

Martin Brundle and Damon Hill both agreed that the six-time champion is a relentless and deserved record-breaking success story, Brundle saying he felt privileged to witness his feats.

Hamilton last Sunday became the sport's most successful driver when he claimed a record 92nd win, moving one clear of seven-time champion Michael Schumacher's 14-year record of 91 wins.

Hill, the 1996 world champion, believes Hamilton needs to be challenged by and beat another driver of the same calibre if he is to silence the doubters.

"There's a risk that Lewis's achievements will be measured against the intensity of his competition," said Hill, who had to beat Schumacher to win his title.

"Mercedes have totally dominated this era and Lewis is not challenged."

Brundle said he would not be surprised if Hamilton won 10 championships.

"I'm not sure we ever thought anybody would approach, let alone surpass, Michael Schumacher's tally of 91 victories," the commentator told Sky Sports before adding "and I think there's a long way to go yet".

Brundle added that Hamilton, like Schumacher, says he is not interested in statistics and league tables, but did this only to deflect pressure.

"I could see Lewis aiming at something like 10 frankly and a long way north of 100 victories."

Hamilton will be seeking a 93rd victory to help Mercedes seal an unprecedented seventh consecutive constructors title at this weekend's Emilia Romagna Grand Prix amid much speculation about his future.

He is out of contract this year and Formula One is heading towards a likely salary cap for drivers in 2023.

Reports have suggested that Hamilton wants to improve on his current deal, claimed to be worth around 40 million euros per season while Mercedes want to cut costs.

Team boss Toto Wolff is also out of contract this year, but like Hamilton has said he wants to stay with the team – and would much prefer to secure the champion on a multi-year deal instead of a one-year extension.

Hamilton has a lead of 77 points ahead of nearest rival and Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas, who has agreed already to stay with the team next year.

As the F1 circus returns to Imola, for the first time in 14 years, Hill and Brundle will have memories of the tragic 1994 San Marino Grand Prix stirred.&nbsp;

That weekend saw the deaths of Hill's&nbsp;close friend Austrian Roland Ratzenberger in qualifying and his Williams team-mate Brazilian Ayrton Senna during the race.

Hamilton legacy under threat due to 'lack of challengers'

Ravindra Jadeja hit the last two balls for six to secure a tense morale-boosting win for Chennai Super Kings over Kolkata Knight Riders that only helped their old rivals Mumbai Indians.

The six-wicket victory for Chennai, who have failed to qualify for the IPL playoffs for the first time, meant that reigning champions Mumbai were first to claim one of the four playoff places in this year's tournament.

Nitish Rana hit 87 and Dinesh Karthik helped out with 21 from 10 balls as Kolkata made 172-5 off their 20 overs in Dubai.

Chennai made a slow start, needing 72 from Ruturaj Gaikwad, one of the young players that captain M.S. Dhoni is relying on to rejuvenate the ailing three-time champions, to keep them in the game.

Dhoni went for one run and India allrounder Jadeja came in with his side needing 33 off 16 balls.

With 10 required off the final over, Kamlesh Nagarkoti gave away only three runs off the first four balls but Jadeja then smashed two big sixes to take Chennai to 178-4 and victory.

"He has been the only batsman in our team who has taken the job of scoring in the last few overs," Dhoni said in a tribute to Jadeja, a rare performer in a disappointing season for big-spending Chennai.

Defeat for Kolkata meant Eoin Morgan's side need near rivals Rajasthan Royals and King's XI Punjab to lose games if they are to qualify.

Ace England all-rounder Ben Stokes has called fellow Rajasthan Royals (RR) wicket-keeper Jos Buttler as the most talented player he has ever played with.

In an interview with RR teammate and England pace bowler Jofra Archer, Stokes was asked about the most talented player he has played with. His reply was: "I reckon talent-wise, because of his versatility, Jos Buttler."

Stokes also said that since he didn`t have too many five-wicket hauls, he would like to take a few. "Since I don`t have too many fifers as a bowler, I`d like to have them," said Stokes when asked by Archer to pick between centuries and five-wicket hauls.

The New Zealand-born England all-rounder was in prime form last year and led England to World Cup victory as well as making an Ashes-saving 135 not out in the Test at Headingley, Leeds. The all-rounder picked the 98-ball unbeaten knock of 84 in the World Cup final as his favourite. "Both were great but I`d pick the World Cup as favourite as we had something to show for at the end," he said.

Stokes, 29, picked Mumbai Indians as the team to beat and perform against.

Archer was asked about his favourite wicket in his career and he picked Australian Travis Head from the Old Trafford Test of last year`s Ashes series.

IPL 2020: Buttler most talented cricketer I've played with, says Ben Stokes

KL Rahul on Friday joined Virat Kohli in an elusive list of players to score 600 runs twice in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL) to become only the second Indian batsman to achieve the iconic feat. Rahul, playing against Rajasthan Royals, in a crucial match in the ongoing IPL 2020 also joined an elusive list of cricketers to have scored 600 runs multiple times in IPL history.

While the likes of Chris Gayle and David Warner have scored 600-plus runs in IPL season thrice in the history of the tournament, Kohli and Rahul are only Indians to have made it to the list.&nbsp;

Gayle, also known as Universe Boss, has achieved the feat in 2011, 2012 and 2013 whereas Warner in 2016, 2017 and 2019.

Meanwhile, Kohli achieved the feat in 2013 and 2016. Rahul, on the other hand, scored 600-plus runs in 2018 and in the ongoing IPL 2020. Notably, Rahul missed the 600-run mark by just seven runs last season.

Interestingly, no Indian batsman apart from Kohli and Rahul have scored 600 runs twice in the history of IPL. Also, he becomes only the second Indian captain, after Kohli, to notch up 600 runs in multiple IPL seasons.

Wives, girlfriends and kids would be able to accompany Indian cricketers on their tour of Australia with as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has verbally assured the players of the same. The BCCI was reluctant to allow families amid tough quarantine restrictions in Australia but reconsidered their position after requests from senior players.

Had the BCCI not managed to convince Cricket Australia to allow a touring group of as many as 60 members, some of the players would have been without their respective families for almost six months.

“A few Indian players had requested us to allow family because some of them didn’t bring their wives to UAE,” a BCCI official said.
“We have informally informed players that they can take their families. Their families’ passport details have been taken,” a BCCI official told The Indian Express.&nbsp;

The organisers of Tokyo Olympics on Friday offered refunds for tickets bought in Japan while promising more reimbursements if Games are cancelled or fewer seats are available due to COVID-19 issues at the postponed Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

The big announcement comes after International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach warned that full stadiums “may not be possible” at Tokyo Olympics, scheduled to start a year late in July 2021.

Domestic fans who bought tickets can apply for a refund from November 10 to 30 or December 1 to 21 for the Paralympics, the Tokyo organising committee announced.

However, those who have bought tickets elsewhere in the world will have to look for refunds from their respective retailers. Notably, local fans in Japan who bought tickets can keep them and remain eligible for a refund if crowds are restricted in the Games.&nbsp;

"Should we not be able to provide an opportunity to spectate the Games due to Covid-19, we will offer an additional opportunity to apply for a refund," the committee said in a statement.

Spokesman Masa Takaya said organisers "are not examining any cancellation (of the Games) or zero-spectator situation".&nbsp;
Last-minute refunds are also being considered – for example, if an event has to be cancelled due to an athlete catching the dreaded virus.

Around 4.48 million tickets have been sold for the Olympics thus far and nearly a million for the Paralympics, as per the organising committee.

According to the budget plan announced last in 2019, ticket sale should provide 90 billion yet or $860 million of the event’s 630 billion yet revenue.&nbsp;

The Games' most recent official price tag is 1.3 trillion yen ($12 billion), but the postponement and coronavirus countermeasures are set to increase that figure, though organisers are also seeking to slash costs where possible.

Suryakumar Yadav is a name that has been around in Indian cricket for a decade but is&nbsp;doing rounds for the last couple of years in the Indian cricketing circuit. Suryakumar Yadav or ‘SKY’ as fans call him has been smashing runs for fun in the white-ball arena of Indian cricket. Be it in the Indian Premier League, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Deodhar Trophy, even DY Patil T20 or for India A, Suryakumar Yadav’s relentless will to score runs has come out strong, especially in the last couple of years.&nbsp;

The right-handed batsman is being hailed as India’s Mr 360 along with KL Rahul, at the moment. Is it only now when SKY has hit the headlines for his batting? No.

SKY came into the scene in 2010 when he made his debut for Mumbai in Ranji Trophy and ended up topping the run-scoring charts for his team in that particular season. Like every athlete, his career has faced highs and lows but that hasn’t stopped him from killing his hunger for runs.

An innovative, attacking batsman, Suryakumar has the finesse of playing strokes all around the park. While his lean and athletic physique may give a first-look that he doesn’t have the power to clear the fence but if you follow his batting for a longer time, it will be crystal clear that he has all the power in the world to clear any boundary rope – which he has shown in the last few seasons. His breathtaking timing is just another trait of his batting.

But SKY has been overlooked by the Indian selectors time and time again – exclusion from the upcoming Australia tour is just another disappointment that the Mumbai star had to face in his career. After he smashed an unbeaten 79 off 43 deliveries to help Mumbai Indians seal a comfortable win against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Indian Premier League, a tweet from Indian head coach Ravi Shastri followed.&nbsp;

“Surya namaskar. Stay strong and patient @surya_14kumar #MIvsRCB” tweeted Shastri just after the conclusion of MI vs RCB on October 28.&nbsp;

While Shastri’s message clearly hinted that he is strongly in contention for the Indian team, then why not utilize his form in the biggest of series – against Australia? If a head coach can praise a player for his form on Twitter then why not reward him with a dream Team India call-up? If Varun Chakravarthy, who has played just one First-Class match can make it to the Indian squad, then what wrong has Suryakumar Yadav done?

SKY was not picked under the regime of former chief selector MSK Prasad, surely the same case can't be repeated under new chief selector Sunil Joshi?

Arguments can be put forward by saying the Indian line-up is packed but aren’t the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey too similar kind of players for number four and five in the T20I set-up for the Men in Blue? Both Iyer and Pandey haven’t done anything wrong to be dropped but ultimately, it is about the betterment of the team and its balance. SKY has a better range to bat at number 6, has the power to finish games for India and more importantly is going through the form of his life. People saying Manish Pandey remained not-out in all the matches against New Zealand, he faced 12, 6, 36 and 4 balls at number six against New Zealand and didn’t bat in the second T20I.&nbsp;

If IPL is the parameter to pick squads for all the formats (KL Rahul for Tests, Varun Chakravarthy for T20Is) then why can’t Surykumar Yadav, at least make it for the T20I squad? Sanju Samson was picked in the T20I&nbsp;squad even when he has failed to put up consistent performances in IPL 2020. His performances in the domestic season are also patchy. What wrong has Suryakumar Yadav done then?

In IPL 2018, SKY smashed 512 runs at an average of 36 and strike-rate of 133.3. In IPL 2019, he scored 424 runs in 16 matches at an average of 32.61 and strike-rate of 130.86. So far in IPL 2020, he has hammered 362 runs in 12 matches at an average of 40.22&nbsp;and strike-rate of 155.36.&nbsp;

His cricketing journey and stats aren’t limited to IPL, unlike some big-name players, in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2018-19, Suryakumar smashed 360 runs in 10 matches at an average of 51.42 and strike-rate of 145.16. And he followed up in the next edition with 392 runs in 11 matches with 56 average and 168 strike-rate.&nbsp;

Talk about Deodhar Trophy 2018-19, Surkyakumar Yadav scored 134 runs in three matches at an average of 67 and strike-rate of 134. In 2019-20 edition, SKY smashed a 72 not-out in one of the three matches he played in the tournament and ended up with an average of 42.50 and strike-rate of 157.40.&nbsp;

Suryakumar Yadav’s numbers with the willow and his performances will continue to stagger the fans but at the same time, his non-selection in the Indian team will leave everyone baffled.&nbsp;

If the Indian head coach is the benchmark of motivating people in the Indian camp then he should be the first one to ask for his inclusion, at least in the Indian T20I side. Not because SKY has been touching the sky with his batting just because he has knocked the door for too long and backed it with performances for whichever team he has played for.

And if you want to bring up his mental strength, then the way he kept his nerves despite seeing the captain of the Indian team walk towards him during the MI vs RCB and then win the match for his franchise should be a good enough reason to clear the air. Let alone the struggle of scoring runs for fun in the domestic circuit.&nbsp;

Suryakumar Yadav is a name that has been around in Indian cricket for a decade but is doing rounds for the last couple of years in the Indian cricketing circuit. Suryakumar Yadav or ‘SKY’ as fans call him has been smashing runs for fun in the white-ball arena of Indian cricket. Be it in the Indian Premier League, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Deodhar Trophy, even DY Patil T20 or for India A, Suryakumar Yadav’s relentless will to score runs has come out strong, especially in the last couple of years. That's that from Match 48 as @mipaltan win by 5 wickets.@surya_14kumar with an unbeaten 79. Scorecard - https://t.co/XWqNw97Zzc #Dream11IPL pic.twitter.com/ESHhCYRBik — IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) October 28, 2020 × An innovative, attacking batsman, Suryakumar has the finesse of playing strokes all around the park. 📹 | The best of Surya from last night! 👌#OneFamily #MumbaiIndians #MI #Dream11IPL #MIvRCB @SamsungIndia pic.twitter.com/sQzbUoj6lO — Mumbai Indians (@mipaltan) October 29, 2020 × But SKY has been overlooked by the Indian selectors time and time again – exclusion from the upcoming Australia tour is just another disappointment that the Mumbai star had to face in his career. After he smashed an unbeaten 79 off 43 deliveries to help Mumbai Indians seal a comfortable win against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Indian Premier League, a tweet from Indian head coach Ravi Shastri followed. “Surya namaskar. Stay strong and patient @surya_14kumar #MIvsRCB” tweeted Shastri just after the conclusion of MI vs RCB on October 28. Surya namaskar 🙏🏻. Royal Challengers Bangalore foraying into E-gaming

Mumbai Indian beats Royal Challengers Bangalore by 5 wickets, with 5 balls to spare, in Match 48 of the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/ipl">Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020</a>, at Abu Dhabi. Devdutt Padikkal’s 45-ball 74 first helped Bangalore reach 164/6. They could have scored more, had Jasprit Bumrah (4-1-14-3) not pegged them back with a double-wicket maiden in the 17th over before conceding just 5 in the 19th. Suryakumar Yadav (79* in 43) then saw Mumbai home.

Michael Vaughan was all in praise of Yadav in My11 Circle Cricbuzz Live: “Suryakumar Yadav was as good as it gets … He hit a boundary whenever he wished. He played cricket shots. There was not really a huge amount of funky [shots], they were just real high-class cricket strokes. Of all the players in the IPL this year, I don’t think I have seen a player play spin with so much ease … Anytime you feel he can hit the boundary.”

Despite his stellar show this season, Yadav has been left out of India’s T20I squad for the Australia tour later this year. Commenting on that, Simon Doull said: “All you can do is continually put your name in the selectors’ minds. There might be some on the bus, on the plane, ahead of you, but if you continually bang that door, at some stage they kind of have to open it up, they have to let you in … He cannot be far away from an India cap.”

Vaughan praised Padikkal: “He is high-class. I am pretty sure within the next few years we will see plenty of him. Not just in the IPL, but he will get international colours … He can go with the pressure, he has got nice awareness of the game situation, he plays spin nicely as well (which you should expect) and also plays the quicks with calmness and control. Unfortunately for the rest of the world, India has found another batsman.” Doull mentioned that Padikkal is also a brilliant slip fielder.

IPL 2020: Suryakumar Yadav was as good as it gets, says Michael Vaughan

Mumbai Indians batsman Suryakumar Yadav produced another match-winning knock in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Wednesday, prompting many to question his absence from India’s limited-overs squads for the upcoming tour of Australia.

Yadav is among the 12 batsmen who have scored 350-plus runs in this year’s IPL and his 155-plus strike rate is second only to Mayank Agarwal in that group.

Two days after the Indian squads for Australia were announced, the 30-year-old smashed an unbeaten 79 in Mumbai Indians’ five-wicket victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore led by India captain Virat Kohli.

Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh was among those who had questioned Yadav’s omission from Australia tour.

“Don’t know what else @surya_14kumar needs to do get picked in the team India ... different people different rules I guess. I request all the selectors to see his records,” Singh tweeted on Tuesday.

After Yadav’s “class” innings against Bangalore, the 40-year-old tweeted “hope selectors are watching him play...”

Mumbai captain Kieron Pollard said Yadav just needed to be patient for his India call-up.

“Deep down inside, he must be very disappointed not getting to don the blue for India but I’m sure he’s very, very close,” Pollard said after Wednesday’s win.

“He’s done some amazing things for us as a franchise, and the most he can do is continue to let the bat talk and score more runs for us and take us all the way.

“If he continues to be this consistent then at some point in time, you are going to get rewarded. Nothing happens before its time, and long may it continue for us as a franchise.”

At least Yadav’s latest effort did not go unnoticed.

While Kohli was at the receiving end of it, India head coach Ravi Shastri hailed the performance on Twitter and advised Yadav to “Stay strong and patient”.
