Salman Khan's Eid release 'Radhe' had a great start but is now witnessing a drop

Salman Khan-starrer ‘Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai’, has offered a new ray of hope to the Indian film industry. The film experimented with multiple platform release and has seen partial success. It comes at a time when Bollywood has suffered massive losses due closure of cinema screens because of COVID-19 pandemic.

Zee Studios had decided to release ‘Radhe’ simultaneously across multiple platforms, including theatres (wherever they are open) and via pay-per-view on on Zee 5. 'Radhe' was available to rent for ₹249 on ZEE5 as well as for DTH subscribers. Additionally, ZEE5 had also launched a combo offer for annual subscription at ₹499, giving 'Radhe' complimentary.

Zee Studios and Salman Khan Films' decision to open 'Radhe' online and offline simultaneously had resulted in massive pre-sales, with fans lining up to see the film on its opening day. The bold decision has given the audience to consume a high-on-entertainment, quintessential Salman Khan movie at a place and time of their choice. The makers of 'Radhe' has truly shown that with unprecedented circumstances comes the responsibility to make innovative choices that will in turn pave the way for future business models.

This spells good news for an industry grappling with the temporary closure of the traditional exhibition sector. It has also filled other production houses and studios with the hope that innovation is the key to reboot the industry's prospects in the near future.

The "fun" element in Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai, along with director Prabhudheva and actor Salman Khan, made Patani say yes to the action film, slated to start streaming on multiple platforms, including OTT and DTH services, from Thursday. The 28-year-old actor plays Diya, an independent woman and the sister of Abhyankar (Jackie Shroff), the senior of police officer Radhe (Khan). "Making a film takes a lot of time from six months to a year, maybe, so you better like what you are doing. In the case of 'Radhe', I liked the script. It is a fun, massy film. I like watching such movies." "I haven't done a massy film before. I was very excited to be working on this film. Besides, to have a great director and a major star is like an added bonus," she told PTI in an interview.

Salman Khan may be keeping his date with fans this Eid by releasing his new film 'Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai' on OTT platforms and DTH services, but the actor is keen to release the film in theaters when things subside and it is 'safe' for for people to visit cinema halls.

Directed by Prabhudheva, the movie will start streaming on multiple platforms, including OTT and DTH services, on May 13 on the festival of Eid.

Also starring Disha Patani, Randeep Hooda and Jackie Shroff, 'Radhe' will release on the pay-per-view broadcast platform Zee Plex as well.

Salman Khan said the "original thought" was to bring the film to the halls "as many of them were getting shut down".

"This film is coming out on Eid, you will get a chance to watch it at home and when corona will go away, we will release it in the theatres," the 55-year-old actor told reporters in a roundtable interview from Mumbai.

"Once everything is safe, we will release the film again in the theatres. We hope the film does well then too," he added.

Khan, however, said he was "disappointed" for the theatre owners and the fans who like to watch his films on the big screen.
"I'm very disappointed for that because I wish this film would have been seen in the theatres on Eid but it is not possible because of the current situation," the actor said.

'Radhe' harks back to the character of Salman Khan's protagonist of the same name from his 2009 blockbuster 'Wanted', also directed by Prabhudheva.

But the actor emphasised 'Radhe' was not the sequel and only has the "vibe" similar to 'Wanted'.

"It's not a sequel to 'Wanted', it's just that the character's name is Radhe. Radhe was also in 'Tere Naam'. Prem (another one of his popular on-screen names) was also in a lot of films. The character (Radhe) has that vibe to it, that 'commitment' dialogue, reminiscing something for the fans. But this is a different film altogether," he added.

If the audience liked 'Radhe', "we will bring out its sequel", Salman Khan promised.

Last week, Zee Entertainment Enterprises and Salman Khan Films, the actor's production banner, pledged to provide support towards COVID-19 relief work across the country through the revenue generated from the upcoming film.

Calling the decision "a very selfish" one, Salman Khan said whatever they are doing, "it will never be enough".

"What if I need it someday? What if I need somebody like me to help me out at that time? So, it's not selflessness. I think we should all be like that. God forbid, when we ourselves are in trouble, there should be someone like you to help you out."

The actor, who got his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in March, also shared that he will get his second jab "in the next 10 days".
"Mum and dad took their second vaccination (shot) yesterday," he said of his parents veteran screenwriter Salim Khan and producer Salma Khan, adding that brother-producer Arbaaz Khan took his first shot on Sunday.

Salman Khan also mentioned that his sister Arpita Khan Sharma had COVID-19 "long back".

Later, in an Instagram post, Arpita said she tested positive for the virus in the beginning of April and was "asymptomatic".
"I followed all the guidelines and protocols and thankfully with the grace of God I have fully recovered and have been well since. Stay safe, stay strong, stay positive," she added.

The superstar further urged people to get tested once they have symptoms and start the treatment immediately.

"That's the only way to survive this," he added.

"Radhe" features Salman Khan as an encounter specialist tackling drug menace in Mumbai.
Produced by Salma Khan, Sohail Khan and Reel Life Production Private Limited, the film also stars Gautam Gulati.
Salman Khan wishes to release 'Radhe' in theatres when COVID-19 pandemic ends

Currently, India is facing the world's worst COVID-19 surge and many celebrities such as Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Sonu Sood Virat Kohli, Anushka Sharma and more are working hard to raise funds to help people in this pandemic. Now, just like last year, Salman Khan has pledged to take care of the financial needs of 25,000 daily wage workers from the film industry.

Federation of Western Indian Cine Employees (FWICE) General Secretary, Ashoke Dubey told Indian Express, “Salman Khan’s manager spoke to BN Tiwari (FWICE president) and asked us to send details of 25,000 workers from the federation."

Salman Khan to help 25,000 film industry daily wage workers amid COVID crisis

As social media in India turned into a Covid helpline amid a massive new wave of the pandemic, most celebrities continue to remain silent. This was in contrast to the first wave, when at least some of them endorsed public service messages on preventive measures.

Ordinary people with negligible follower counts have been retweeting SOS calls for urgent supplies including vital medical oxygen, in the hopes that those in need will get help, and in several cases they did.

Many citizens have taken personal initiatives to aid patients and their families. But our stars, who have millions of supporters and could have made a difference, seem to be disinterested in amplifying distress messages.

This does not mean that they have taken a sabbatical from social media. They are pretty much active and keep us updated with their daily lives: Instagramming photos and posting about their Maldives vacations, upcoming movies, and exercise routines.

Brand endorsements continued as before. While people have been forced to shed hefty amounts for Covid treatment, some cricketers and actors promote luxury products. And there are health supplements too. Because what is a better time to promote a healthy lifestyle than a pandemic?

Some stars started sharing helpline numbers only after receiving a backlash.

But overall, the detachment of Indian celebrities from the unfolding national tragedy seems like they are living in an alternate reality.

It’s not just about reach and influence, but also the money they make. They can donate, share verified leads. Their teams can help them with the process. But none of it happened, in most cases.

The enormity of their silence is amplified by the fact that the stars themselves have not remained untouched by the crisis. The Indian Premier League has been suspended after several players tested positive. Several Bollywood stars tested positive, and the release of their movies has been either postponed or moved to OTT platforms.

There could have been a unified effort from the film, TV and sporting fraternities, using the power of their organisations and deep pockets, to address the crisis. Not a single attempt worth mentioning has been made in that direction.

Will they break their silence now?

Let us look at the explanations for not helping, by those defending celebrities.

They say that it’s not the job of the stars to help people navigate through this crisis. By the same logic, it is also not the job of common people to do so either.

Another defence is that celebs want to stay away from anything political. But in the past, our stars did voice concerns for several causes, be it political or personal, though political ones are admittedly rare.

Then there's the counter that they alone should decide how to spend their hard-earned money. A celebrity’s value is measured by the number of people who admire him or her. The movies, brand deals they get depend on their fan following.

While most remain unempathetic, some have come forward to provide assistance. Actors like Bhumi Pednekar and Sonam Kapoor have been sharing requests for oxygen, medicines on their social media handles and Priyanka Chopra Jonas has been raising funds for India, Sachin Tendulkar has made donations, to name just a few.

Australian cricketer Pat Cummins contributed to India's fight against covid even before some of our celebs came forward.

One can’t forget the contribution of actor Sonu Sood who continues to be a good samaritan. That Sood could send migrants home at the height of the lockdown showed us what a person with resources and influence can do.

But the crux here is choice. Sood chose to help, many are yet to do that.

'Radhe' trailer: Salman Khan plays the tough cop out to 'clean the city' from drugs and crime

Contrary to reports that Salman Khan will not get a film release this Eid too owing to the pandemic, makers have confirmed that actor’s ‘Radhe’ will release next month.

Scheduled for May 13, 2021, Radhe will land on theatres as well as OTT for fans.

The big announcement was made today as Prabhu Deva directed ‘Radhe: Yoru Most Wanted Bhai’ will see a multiformat release and wide theatrical release on May 13.

Shariq Patel, CBO, Zee Studios shared, “The ongoing pandemic forced us to innovate, and we are proud to be the first to embark upon this new distribution strategy. While we all love to catch the latest movies at the nearest theatres, we realized we’d be doing a disservice to Salman’s fans nationwide if we aren’t able to release theatrically in all Indian states. We sensed the need for a pay per view solution along with theatres, which gives the consumers flexibility and convenience of viewing the film.”

Salman Khan Films’ spokesperson added, “It’s imperative that we all come together and think of out-of-the-box solutions for cinema as an industry during the current pandemic situation. We will support the theatre owners by releasing the film in as many theatres as we can, keeping in line with the rules and protocols laid down by the government. But, considering the guidelines and safety measures, we also need to devise ways to ensure that the film reaches all of our audience. We don’t want to deny the audience the choice of entertainment in the comfort of their homes during these times.”

Salman Khan confirms his cameo in Shah Rukh Khan’s 'Pathan'

In a major respite for Salman Khan, the Jodhpur District and Sessions Court on Thursday dismissed the plea of the Rajasthan State Government against the actor for allegedly presenting a false affidavit in connection with the Arms Act.

In a statement confirming the same, Salman Khan's lawyer, Hastimal Saraswat said, “The Jodhpur District and Sessions Court dismissed both the pleas of the State Government, in a detailed order. We had replied in 2006 itself that no false affidavits were presented and such pleas are being furnished only to disturb Salman.”

The state government’s plea was earlier dismissed by the lower court as well.

Salman had earlier apologised for 'mistakenly' submitting a false affidavit in the Jodhpur session court in 2003, during his hearing in a case related to the poaching of two blackbucks in Jodhpur in 1998. His lawyer told the court that the affidavit was mistakenly submitted to the court on August 8, 2003, for which the actor should be forgiven.

Bollywood actor Salman Khan was arrested in 1998 for hunting two blackbucks in Kankani village near Jodhpur. At that time, a case under Arms Act was registered against him and the court had asked him to submit his arms licence.

The actor thus took to his social media profile and thanked his fans as he wrote, "To all my fans.. thank u for your love support n concern. Khayal rakho apna n parivaar ka. God bless n loveee u tooo..."

We had replied in 2006 itself that no false affidavits were presented and such pleas are being furnished only to disturb Salman.” The state government’s plea was earlier dismissed by the lower court as well. Salman Khan finally speaks on farmers protests, says 'right thing should be done' Salman had earlier apologised for 'mistakenly' submitting a false affidavit in the Jodhpur session court in 2003, during his hearing in a case related to the poaching of two blackbucks in Jodhpur in 1998. God bless n loveee u tooo..." View this post on Instagram A post shared by Salman Khan (@beingsalmankhan) ×

Yash Raj Films planning spy universe with Bollywood stars SRK, Salman, Deepika, Katrina?

For the first time in the history of Bollywood, the three Khans will be part of the same film. Aamir Khan's highly anticipated film 'Laal Singh Chadha' will have Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan in cameo roles. This would be the first time in history that the three superstars would be part of the same film.

An official remake of 'Forrest Gump', 'Laal Singh Chaddha' will have SRK reprising his role of Raj from 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge' and Salman Khan as Prem. The film shows the journey of a man through decades and in the 1990s decade Aamir will chance upon the era's budding stars SRK and Salman.

"The screenplay weaves in iconic moments from each decade and since we love our matinee idols, Chaddha's journey would be incomplete without certain top stars. So, during this journey of self-discovery, Aamir lands on the sets to meet Shah Rukh around the release of DDLJ and sharing his personal experiences, engages with the wonder world," a source close to the film told a daily recently.

Talking about Salman Khan's cameo in the film, the source said, "His Prem wooed the audience in the '90s, from 'Maine Pyar Kiya', 'Hum Aapke Hai Koun...!' to 'Hum Saath Saath Hai' and Aamir is keen to get Salman back as Prem in his social dramedy."

SRK has already shot for his scenes last month which were reportedly directed by Aamir himself.

The film is being directed by Advait Chandan and co-stars Kareena Kapoor Khan. The film will be releasing in 2021.
