Considering the pressure that comes along with the home World Cup (especially in India), Rohit knows what is at stake and is gearing up for the same accordingly.</p>

<p>The right-handed batter, who in the previous edition in England was the top run-getter with 648 runs, including hitting five hundreds, said he wants to be in the same space he was in before the 2019 edition. Rohit added he was much more relaxed and prepared well for the ten-team tournament that brought him results.</p>

<p>"I want to get into the phase I was in before the 2019 World Cup," Rohit told PTI.</p>

<p>"I was in a great frame of mind and prepared really well for the tournament. I was in good shape, a good mindset. I want to bring that back, and I have time to do that. Trying to recollect what were the right things that I was doing before the 2019 World Cup as a cricketer and as a person. I want to revisit that thought process of mine personally,” Rohit added.</p>

<p>With 44 international hundreds to his name across formats, Rohit is a veteran in the modern-day cricket setup and understands the nuances of being one in this cricket-loving country. <p>“The hundred in Sharjah [at the 2021 T20 World Cup] would definitely be one, especially in those sort of conditions. I found the first half of that inning very tough. I got 94 not out against Mumbai Indians in the 2018 IPL at the Wankhede - that's probably one of the best I have batted. I was in a nice run of form, and that was one of those days where things clicked,” Buttler told ESPNcricinfo.&nbsp;</p>

This mission, headed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), marks a huge and historic achievement for the country and its success rode on the optimal performance of the Vikram Lunar lander. With the successful landing, India has further elevated its stature and joined a select group of nations to have attained the historic feat of soft lunar landings. Apart from India, the United States, China, and the former Soviet Union are the other nations to have successfully made lunar landings so far.</p>

<p>After India's momentous achievement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "Every Indian is celebrating today. Every home is celebrating. I am also connected to the people of my country at this proud moment. On Wednesday (August 23), India scripted history in its lunar exploration as Chandrayaan-3 made a successful landing at the Moon's South Pole. This mission, headed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), marks a huge and historic achievement for the country and its success rode on the optimal performance of the Vikram Lunar lander.

With the successful landing, India has further elevated its stature and joined a select group of nations to have attained the historic feat of soft lunar landings. Apart from India, the United States, China, and the former Soviet Union are the other nations to have successfully made lunar landings so far. After India's momentous achievement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "Every Indian is celebrating today. Every home is celebrating. I am also connected to the people of my country at this proud moment. It is the dawn of a new era." PM Modi added, "He also congratulated the team of scientists in Isro who made the mission a success. "No country has reached there (the South Pole of the moon) before. With the hard work of our scientists, we have reached there." After India's successful landing, many sports personalities also reacted to the historic achievement for the country. Among India's sports personalities, Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar led the wishes and wrote on X, formerly Twitter, "@ISRO represents the best of India. Humble, hardworking women & men, coming together, overcoming challenges, and making our tricolour fly high. Kohli, Rohit, Tendulkar lead wishes from sports fraternity after Chandrayaan-3's successful moon landing

From Sachin Tendulkar to Virat Kohli: Top 6 Indian Batters with Most 50-plus scores in ODI World Cups

<p>Star India batter Shubman Gill has opened up on the valuable presence of skipper Rohit Sharma at the top as they prepare for an important next three months for the national side. The Indian team is gearing up for the penultimate battle before the ODI World Cup as they prepare for the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka. Gill, who is expected to play a key role in the Indian team for both tournaments, highlighted the importance of Rohit before and how he has helped him enjoy his cricket.</p>

<h2><strong>Gill full of praise for Rohit</strong></h2>

<p>"It feels great to be able to open up with him, especially knowing that all the focus is on him. He's someone who likes the other batters to go and just express himself and play the way they want to play the game. So in that nature, he gives the players full freedom for how they want to express their game," Gill told ICC.</p>

<p>Gill has been in superb form in 2023, having scored eight hundreds in all tournaments including the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, it is with the national team where he has enjoyed the presence of skipper Rohit, who has helped him excel and enjoy his cricket. The talisman from Punjab has scored five international hundreds in 2023 while he scored a ton at the end of last year against Bangladesh.</p>

<h2><strong>Gill’s superb run of form</strong></h2>

<p>Gill has all but cemented his place in the Indian team and is expected to open the innings alongside Rohit in the Asia Cup and in the build-up to the ODI World Cup. Gill is the favoured batter to open along with Rohit, while Ishan Kishan is another option who can partner the Gujarat Titans man.</p>

<p>So far, in 27 ODIs for the national team, Gill&nbsp;has scored 1437 runs for India with a best of 208 against New Zealand in January. He so far has four hundreds and six fifties with the national team and averages 62.47 in the format. Interestingly, he could join the likes of Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh to win both the U-19 and senior 50-over World Cups. Gill was the Player of the Tournament in 2018 when India won their fourth title at the junior level.</p>

However, he remains the white-ball vice-captain and former Indian cricketer Madan Lal has backed him to be the next captain but shared an important advice for the talented all-rounder.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"See, he definitely could be the next captain, the way he is going about leading in T20Is. But my concern is not that. Hardik has to perform. He is so talented and has done well, but where is the Hardik Pandya that scored 92 against Australia? " He added, "To be very honest, my initial thought was that if a wicketkeeper has to play in the middle order, Sanju Samson is definitely the second option after KL Rahul. However, if a place can be created as an opener, then Ishan Kishan, without a shadow of a doubt, is your second wicketkeeper."</p>

<p>Backing Chopra's claims, Samson has done reasonably well in the ODI format. The right-hander has 390 runs in 13 ODIs at an average of&nbsp;55.71 and a strike rate of&nbsp;104.00 along with three half-centuries. While it saw the return of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, some big names were also missing, such as Yuzvendra Chahal, Umran Malik and&nbsp;Shikhar Dhawan. While not many would have considered Dhawan's name for the Asia Cup, with the left-hander not being in India's scheme of things since 2023, BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar opined on his future.</p>

<p>"Rohit is not a bad player, Shubman has had a phenomenal year. Ishan Kishan (is another one). Shikhar has been a terrific player for India. At the moment three guys are doing well and you can fit only 15. Unfortunately, someone has to fit. At the moment these are our preferred openers," Agarkar said while talking to the reporters after the Asia Cup squad announcement.</p>

<p>Shikhar Dhawan has been one of India's most prolific batters in the modern era. Dhawan formed a lethal opening pair with current captain Rohit over the years and remained India's consistent performer in ICC events (during the 2013 and 2017 Champions Trophy and 2015 ODI World Cup) but his stocks declined since 2021. And Shubman Gill's emergence, along with Ishan Kishan's attack-mode of play, led to his ouster in recent times. While he led India's second-stringed line-up in away tours (in New Zealand, Sri Lanka, etc.) and led in a few series at home as well, the 37-year-old has now fallen way behind in the pecking order.</p>

"Rohit is not a bad player, Shubman has had a phenomenal year. Ishan Kishan (is another one). Shikhar has been a terrific player for India. At the moment three guys are doing well and you can fit only 15. Unfortunately, someone has to fit. At the moment these are our preferred openers," Agarkar said while talking to the reporters after the Asia Cup squad announcement. And Shubman Gill's emergence, along with Ishan Kishan's attack-mode of play, led to his ouster in recent times. <p>The squad comprises 17 players whereas Sanju Samson has been named as a backup. The main squad also includes Tilak Varma, who is yet to make his debut in the ODI format. Varma, after a stellar run in IPL 2023 for Mumbai Indians (MI), got his maiden international cap during the India-West Indies T20Is, in West Indies and Florida. The left-hander impressed with scores of 39, 51, 49*, 7*, 27.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Former India pacer Agarkar, who is spearheading the BCCI selection committee, opined on Varma's inclusion and said after the squad announcement, "In West Indies, we saw some real promise in terms of not just performances but the temperament."</p>

<p>He added, "And it gives us an opportunity to take him with the team, give him some more exposure; a left-hander again, looks very promising. So fortunately we can take 17 here, it'll be 15 at the World Cup. So when the time comes we'll take that decision, but at the moment it at least gives the coach and captain an opportunity to have him with the squad."</p>

Now, the national side&nbsp;not only have another left-hander&nbsp;for the middle and lower order but the 20-year-old can also bowl a bit. <p>Indian captain Rohit Sharma attended the press conference on Sunday in New Delhi for the Asia Cup 2023 squad announcement. With BCCI naming a 17-man team for the six-team tournament starting August 30, a few old faces returned to the ODI setup for the first time in many months, including KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer and Jasprit Bumrah.</p>

<p>The inclusion of Suryakumar Yadav and the introduction of young Tilak Varma in the squad add value, and Rohit said the message is clear to all batters that everyone must be flexible in batting at any position, even if it means coming out of their comfort zone spot.</p>

<p>From having no one to fill the vacant number four and five slots to roping in four players for those places, the Asia Cup squad announcement comes as a success at the right time for India. The presence of keeper-batter Ishan Kishan as a backup to Rahul ticks another box, as the top three remain the same – Rohit, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli.</p>

It is to be noted that Team India last won a mega event during the 2013 Champions Trophy, when MS Dhoni-led, inexperienced Indian&nbsp;line-up beat England in a rain-marred final, by five runs (DLS method), to lift the coveted title in England and Wales.</p>

<p>Since then, India have reached the final of mega events on four occasions (in T20 World Cup 2014, the 2017 Champions Trophy, the two WTC finals) and semi-finals on as many instances (during the 2015 and 2019 ODI World Cup, 2016 and 2022 T20 World Cup). However, they could not add to their trophy cabinet.</p>

<p>Akhar, in an interview with RevSportz, opined on India's empty trophy cabinet since 2013 and feels things have gone south for India ever since Dhoni stepped down as the captain. Under the legendary skipper, India won the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy. In addition, he led India to the No. 1 spot in the ICC Test Rankings.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>'The moment Dhoni gave up captaincy, things went south for India'</strong></h2>

<p>Akhtar said, "First of all, it is the pressure that you all put on the team. It is almost impossible to play with such pressure. Like I told you, it is as if you can’t lose. If you, God forbid, lose, all hell will break loose."</p>

<p>He further opined, "The second and more important point is you had someone who could soak in all the pressure, and protect his teammates. He would not let his teammates feel the pressure, and that was the best thing about MS Dhoni. You won the 2007 World T20 under him, the 2011 World Cup and then the 2013 Champions Trophy. The moment Dhoni gave up the captaincy, things went south for India."</p>

<p>On the current Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who has already led India in two ICC events&nbsp;but not managed any success, the former Pakistani pacer stated, "When I see Rohit, I keep asking this question of myself if he should have accepted captaincy in the first place? I think Rohit feels panic on occasion and lets the pressure get to him. The pressure of captaincy cripples you, and it happened with Virat Kohli also. That’s why you don’t win a major tournament."</p>
