From Siva to the entire cast and crew, they worked so hard in testing climatic conditions for two and a half years. I have a strong belief that hard work will not go away. I’m sure you [authe way dience] will give that love and respect. When it comes, it will receive everything.” Further, the actor said that somethings are above all, and this time he's deciding to postpone his movie to clear the way for Rajinikanth's film.
Tamil actor Dhanush's recent comment during an audio launch of his upcoming film Raayan has left many on the internet stumped. At the event, Dhanush called himself an 'outsider' while sharing a story about how he struggled and worked hard to buy a house at Poes Garden - a posh locality in Chennai, Tamil Nadu where the actor resides. Poes Garden is also the same area where superstar Rajinikanth lives and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, the late Jayalalitha had a home.

Dhanush's comments left the internet in splits as they reminded him that he too hailed from a film family and was not an outsider.

What Dhanush said

Dhanush claimed at the event that there was a lot of chatter after he bought a house at Poes Garden. He said, “If I knew buying a house in Poes Garden would have become such a big topic of conversation, I would have simply got a small apartment. Should I not buy a house in Poes Garden? If I live on the street, should I stay there only?”

The actor then shared that when he was 16, he rode by the colony to see Rajinikanth’s house. He and his friend saw a group of people gathered there. “We were told, this is Jayalalithaa’s house. I stopped the bike and looked — on one side, there is Rajini sir’s house, on the other is Jayalalithaa Amma’s house. I thought to myself that one day, somehow, I want to buy at least a small house in a posh locality like Poes Garden. The Poes Garden house today is a gift to the 16-year-old Venkatesh Prabhu (his birth name).”

For those unaware, Dhanush was married to Rajinikanth's elder daughter Aishwarya for over a decade. The couple announced their separation a few years back. Not to mention, Dhanush's father Kasthuri Raja is a film director and producer.

Dhanush gets backlash

While there is no doubt that Dhanush has worked hard to attain superstar status in Tamil cinema, the internet couldn't help but remind the actor that he did not come from the streets as he claimed at the event.

One miffed person wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “It's funny when a Nepo Kid like #Dhanush is talking about starting from scratch. Like, damm your family has a cinema background and you access it easily with no talents at all during your first few movies.. And you talk about being in the streets? Do you know what is streets?”

Another X user pointed out that Dhanush’s father financed his first film when he was just 18 and he was married to Rajinikanth’s daughter by the time he was 20.

“What is this new level of idiocy from Dhanush?” they wrote, adding, “Why do these actors act as if they are something out of the ordinary? Wearing a simple dress and a Rudraksha doesn't mean someone is simple and humble. The mindset is what matters! He is just aping his ex-father-in-law with these stories. It's so similar to the Fiat story of Rajini.”

“The Mosy irritating part for me in Audio launch more than Dhanush speech that his kids have been given centre stage and the artist and technician of the movie are sidelined. Well he is a Nepo so he works in this way,” wrote a third user.

Another person just shared a video of Dhanush’s speech and wrote, “#BanAudioLaunchEvents."

Some spoke in favour of Dhanush.

One person said, “If yu can find some inspiration from it get it, else ignore..Spreading hatred is the worst thing v are doing. Wt satisfaction are yu getting?”

Another chimed in, “Why are people hating on Dhanush’s speech? I actually found it inspiring tbh. I felt goosebumps.”

Dhanush's directorial film Raayan will hit screens this Friday. The film stars Sundeep Kishan, Kalidas Jayaram and Dhanush in lead roles. The film also stars SJ Suryah, Selvaraghavan, Prakash Raj, Dushara Vijayan, Aparna Balamurali and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar in key roles.

Veteran stars Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth recently attended the post-wedding festivities of an Indian billionaire's son in Mumbai.
Oscar-winning composer, AR Rahman has revealed that the King of Pop, Michael Jackson almost sang for Shankar's film Enthiran which costarred Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai in the lead.

Rahman recently took part in a fan meet and greet event where he spoke about his meeting with the legendary pop star months before his death.

In a video by Free Malaysia Today, Rahman revealed how he met Jackson shortly after winning an Oscar for Slumdog Millionaire.

Rahman revealed he was in Los Angeles, USA, in early 2009 when he met someone who managed Michael.

"I asked if I could meet him. An email was sent out but there was no response for a week. Then, I got nominated for the Oscars (for Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire). Michael’s team said he wanted to meet me. I said, I don’t want to meet him now. I’ll meet him when I’ve won an Oscar,” said Rahman.

When he did win the Oscar, he explained the feeling as ‘top of the world’. “I met him at a home in LA the day after I won it. He was very kind, we spoke about music and world peace. He said, why don’t we do the next We Are The World, introduced me to his kids. He even showed me how he dances from the heart,” Rahman said.

Rahman eventually came back to India and told filmmaker Shankar about his meeting Micheal. Shankar asked the composer if the pop legend would sing for Enthiran.

“Shankar sir asked me if he would sing for the film. I said, wow, will he sing a Tamil song? I asked. He said, whatever you say, we’ll do it together.

The plan never materialised as Michael died in June of that year. “He was sick at that time,” said Rahman.

The OST of Enthiran featured no international singers, but it went on to be a massive success. The sequel of the film 2.0, featured music by Rahman as well and was released in 2018. The film featured Rajinikanth, Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson.

Shankar on Rahman’s absence in Indian 2

Shankar and Rahman have worked on numerous projects together, including the 1996 Kamal Haasan-starrer Indian. The sequel, Indian 2, however, features music by Anirudh Ravichander. When asked about it at a recent press meeting, Shankar said that he approached Anirudh because Rahman was busy.

“When we started work on Indian 2, AR Rahman was already working on the BGM of 2.0 and I needed the songs soon. I didn’t want to overburden him with Indian 2 and I also liked Anirudh’s music. His music was really popular and I thought, why not sign him on,” explained Shankar.

Rajinikanth and Sajid Nadiadwala to collaborate for Thalaivar 172?

In the final fight sequence in Lal Salaam, amid communal riots in Mumbai, an ageing Moideen Bhai(Rajinikanth) attacks his enemy with one sharp end of a spear-like weapon. In a jiffy, Moideen Bhai takes the other end of the weapon and draws blood from his own hand. Immediately, he rapidly spins the weapon that is now bloodied on both sides and asks the villain if he can identify which end has whose blood. That's how director Aishwarya Rajinikanth wishes to convey that there is no difference between the blood of the clashing Hindu and Muslim communities. Moideen Bhai then wishes peace upon his rival and walks away in his inimitable style.

Welcome to the 150-plus-minutes-long world of Lal Salaam(loosely translated as Red Salute - a greeting among communists in India), where Aishwarya Rajinikanth couldn't provide a single justification for why she chose a title of this sort. The only 'Lal'(red) that recurred throughout the film was the redness of the blood spilt by various characters. Perhaps, the Arabic greeting 'As-salamu alaykum'(May peace be upon you), could have been a more relevant title, given the constant theme of communal clashes in the film and given how Moideen Bhai wishes peace upon his rivals.

Set in a fictional village of the 1990s, in Western Tamil Nadu, the film delves into much more than the audience can handle or expect- cricket matches, communal violence, caste supremacy, local politics, village temple chariot festivals, business rivalries in Mumbai, and a lot of preaching about communal harmony. Following a non-linear narration, the film constantly keeps switching between the past and present, thereby making it feel unnecessarily complicated and tiresome.

The protagonists Thiru(played by Vishnu Vishal) and Shamsudeen(played by Vikranth) have done a commendable job in their roles- where both of them play cricket matches for opposing sides. It is the on-field rivalry of these characters, and their respective family backgrounds that form the basis of the political conspiracy to divide the Hindu and Muslim communities.

While Thiru has a love interest in the film, her character is too short to be remembered, as she barely has a few minutes of screen time. The plot has multiple loose ends, such as seemingly important characters that are established, only to be later forgotten. A classic case is that of a political leader (played by KS Ravikumar), who gets introduced in the film's first few minutes and never re-appears. Likewise, the love interest of Thiru appears only in a few scenes and does not have an overall relevance in the manner in which the plot unravels. However, the supporting roles played by Thambi Ramiah and veteran comedian Senthil were impactful and added a nice emotional touch to the film.

AR Rahman's background score enhances the scenes adequately and the songs perfectly blend with the rural setting and there's a typical heroic background score to establish Moideen Bhai. Even then, there's nothing memorable and special about the music and songs. With a big name like AR Rahman on board, it would be natural to expect some tunes worth adding to our playlists, but there's nothing of that sort to offer.

While Rajini's role in his daughter's directorial venture is touted as an "extended cameo", the fact remains that Rajini is the one who brings closure to multiple plot elements. The portrayal of Moideen Bhai as a powerful businessman-cum-don offers a character of contrasts- he's loving, and doting towards his family and his love for his son knows no bounds. At the same time, he's brutal and unforgiving to those who cause harm to him or his family.

Rajini is cast as the wise and powerful old man who is an embodiment of communal harmony, peace, and justice as is evident from the countless dialogues he utters to ease communal tensions and possible flare-ups. From emphasizing the Indian Muslim identity to offering history lessons on how Pakistan came to be as a nation-state, Moideen Bhai is the ultimate protector of Hindu-Muslim unity and peace.

Despite the obvious high points in the film and the Rajini moments, Lal Salaam feels unsatisfying, lengthy and unconvincing. If there's a film that even Rajinikanth can barely salvage, it is Aishwarya Rajinikanth's 'Lal Salaam'. While its noble messaging and calls for communal harmony are appreciable, the non-linear and convoluted screenplay isn't helping.
