<p>Oscar-winning composer, AR Rahman has revealed that the King of Pop, Michael Jackson almost sang for Shankar's film <em>Enthiran</em> which costarred Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai in the lead.&nbsp;<br />

Rahman recently took part in a fan meet and greet event where he spoke about his meeting with the legendary pop star months before his death.&nbsp;<br />

In a video by Free Malaysia Today, Rahman revealed how he met Jackson shortly after winning an Oscar for <em>Slumdog Millionaire.&nbsp;</em><br />

Rahman revealed he was in Los Angeles, USA, in early 2009 when he met someone who managed Michael.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
"I asked if I could meet him. An email was sent out but there was no response for a week. Then, I got nominated for the Oscars (for<em> Jai Ho </em>from<em> Slumdog Millionaire</em>). Michael’s team said he wanted to meet me. I said, I don’t want to meet him now. I’ll meet him when I’ve won an Oscar,” said Rahman.<br />
<br />
When he did win the Oscar, he explained the feeling as ‘top of the world’. “I met him at a home in LA the day after I won it. He was very kind, we spoke about music and world peace. He said, why don’t we do the next We Are The World, introduced me to his kids. He even showed me how he dances from the heart,” Rahman said.<br />

Rahman eventually came back to India and told filmmaker Shankar about his meeting Micheal. Shankar asked the composer if the pop legend would sing for <em>Enthiran.&nbsp;</em><br />

“Shankar sir asked me if he would sing for the film. I said, wow, will he sing a Tamil song? I asked. He said, whatever you say, we’ll do it together.<br />

The plan never materialised as Michael died in June of that year. “He was sick at that time,” said Rahman.<br />

The OST of <em>Enthiran</em> featured no international singers, but it went on to be a massive success. The sequel of the film <em>2.0</em>, featured music by Rahman as well and was released in 2018. The film featured Rajinikanth, Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson.<br />

I’ll meet him when I’ve won an Oscar,” said Rahman. When he did win the Oscar, he explained the feeling as ‘top of the world’. “I met him at a home in LA the day after I won it. He was very kind, we spoke about music and world peace. He said, why don’t we do the next We Are The World, introduced me to his kids. He even showed me how he dances from the heart,” Rahman said. Rahman eventually came back to India and told filmmaker Shankar about his meeting Micheal. Shankar asked the composer if the pop legend would sing for Enthiran. “Shankar sir asked me if he would sing for the film. I said, wow, will he sing a Tamil song? I asked. He said, whatever you say, we’ll do it together. The plan never materialised as Michael died in June of that year. “He was sick at that time,” said Rahman. The OST of Enthiran featured no international singers, but it went on to be a massive success. The sequel of the film 2.0, featured music by Rahman as well and was released in 2018. Shankar on Rahman’s absence in Indian 2 Shankar and Rahman have worked on numerous projects together, including the 1996 Kamal Haasan-starrer Indian. When asked about it at a recent press meeting, Shankar said that he approached Anirudh because Rahman was busy. “When we started work on Indian 2, AR Rahman was already working on the BGM of 2.0 and I needed the songs soon. I didn’t want to overburden him with Indian 2 and I also liked Anirudh’s music. His music was really popular and I thought, why not sign him on,” explained Shankar.

<p>"There is ever the apprehension that the Production or the Director may not give you another chance .. but as you reminisce at night, it disturbs you and you wonder .. So a request has been made and there is promise that the opportunity to redo and improve shall be given .. but let us see .. (sic)," the 81-year-old wrote alongside a series of pictures from the film set in Mumbai.</p>

"There is ever the apprehension that the Production or the Director may not give you another chance .. but as you reminisce at night, it disturbs you and you wonder .. So a request has been made and there is promise that the opportunity to redo and improve shall be given .. but let us see .. (sic)," the 81-year-old wrote alongside a series of pictures from the film set in Mumbai. Vettaiyan, billed as an entertainer with a message, marks Rajinikanth's 170th feature film. It also stars Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Ritika Singh, Manju Warrier and Dushara Vijayan in key roles. Anirudh Ravichander is attached to compose the music for the movie, produced by A Subaskaran of Lyca Productions.

The only 'Lal'(red) that recurred throughout the film was the redness of the blood spilt by various characters. Perhaps, the Arabic greeting 'As-salamu alaykum'(May peace be upon you), could have been a more relevant title, given the constant theme of communal clashes in the film and given how Moideen Bhai wishes peace upon his rivals.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Set in a fictional village of the 1990s, in Western Tamil Nadu, the film delves into much more than the audience can handle or expect- cricket matches, communal violence, caste supremacy, local politics, village temple chariot festivals, business rivalries in Mumbai, and a lot of preaching about communal harmony. Following a non-linear narration, the film constantly keeps switching between the past and present, thereby making it feel unnecessarily complicated and tiresome.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The protagonists Thiru(played by Vishnu Vishal) and Shamsudeen(played by Vikranth) have done a commendable job in their roles- where both of them play cricket matches for opposing sides. It is the on-field rivalry of these characters, and their respective family backgrounds that form the basis of the political conspiracy to divide the Hindu and Muslim communities.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While Thiru has a love interest in the film, her character is too short to be remembered, as she barely has a few minutes of screen time. The plot has multiple loose ends, such as seemingly important characters that are established, only to be later forgotten. A classic case is that of a political leader (played by KS Ravikumar), who gets introduced in the film's first few minutes and never re-appears. Likewise, the love interest of Thiru appears only in a few scenes and does not have an overall relevance in the manner in which the plot unravels. However, the supporting roles played by Thambi Ramiah and veteran comedian Senthil were impactful and added a nice emotional touch to the film.&nbsp;</p>

<p>AR Rahman's background score enhances the scenes adequately and the songs perfectly blend with the rural setting and there's a typical heroic background score to establish Moideen Bhai. Even then, there's nothing memorable and special about the music and songs. With a big name like AR Rahman on board, it would be natural to expect some tunes worth adding to our playlists, but there's nothing of that sort to offer.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While Rajini's role in his daughter's directorial venture is touted as an "extended cameo", the fact remains that Rajini is the one who brings closure to multiple plot elements. The portrayal of Moideen Bhai as a powerful businessman-cum-don offers a character of contrasts- he's loving, and doting towards his family and his love for his son knows no bounds. At the same time, he's brutal and unforgiving to those who cause harm to him or his family.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Rajini is cast as the wise and powerful old man who is an embodiment of communal harmony, peace, and justice as is evident from the countless dialogues he utters to ease communal tensions and possible flare-ups. From emphasizing the Indian Muslim identity to offering history lessons on how Pakistan came to be as a nation-state, Moideen Bhai is the ultimate protector of Hindu-Muslim unity and peace.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Despite the obvious high points in the film and the Rajini moments,<em> Lal Salaam</em>&nbsp;feels unsatisfying, lengthy and unconvincing. If there's a film that even Rajinikanth can barely salvage, it is Aishwarya Rajinikanth's 'Lal Salaam'. While its noble messaging and calls for communal harmony are appreciable, the non-linear and convoluted screenplay isn't helping.&nbsp;</p>

AR Rahman uses AI to recreate voices of two dead singers for Rajinikanth's Lal Salaam

<p>Indian superstar Rajinikanth defended his daughter Aishwarya after she called her actor father a “Sanghi”. The term is used to refer to a person who is a supporter or activist of the Right wing.</p>

<p>Aishwarya had said in an interview that her "dad is a spiritual person who loves all religions and when that is the case why father should be described so (as a Sanghi).”</p>

<p>Explaining what she meant, Rajinikanth said that his daughter did not term “Sanghi” a “bad word” and only expressed her point of view that he was a spiritual person.</p>

<p>Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Vicky Kaushal, Katrina Kaif, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Ayushmann Khurrana, Kangana Ranaut, and several others have reached Ayodhya for the Pran Prathistha ceremony.</p>

<p>The historic ritual will take place in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, saints, and other distinguished guests.</p>

<p>Following the consecration ceremony, Ayodhya's Ram temple will open for 'darshan' (auspicious viewing)&nbsp;to the general public from January 23. Devotees can visit the temple during two slots – from 7 am to 11:30 am and 2 pm to 7 pm. A pass issued by the trust is required for attending the 'aarti' (ritual offerings).</p>

<p>For the unversed, Chennai-based Ad Bureau Advertising Pvt Ltd filed a case of cheating against Latha over the rights of the film. According to the complaint, the company had lent Rs 10 crore to Media One, one of the producers of the film. In this, Latha Rajinikanth acted as a guarantor.</p>
