Rajinikanth dismisses ‘leaked letter’ about political journey, admits health is a concern amid Covid-19

<p>Legendary playback singer SP Balasubrahmanyam is no more. Popularly known as SPB and Balu, the singer died on Friday in a hospital in Chennai after battling coronavirus for more than a month. He was 74.</p>

<p>“Last two to three days, I have been having a little discomfort. Discomfort means little chest congestion, which for a singer is nonsense,” SPB said in his video message.</p>

<p>“I am perfectly alright except the cold and fever. Fever has also subsided. In two days, I will be discharged, and I will be home. Lot of people have been calling me. I couldn’t attend all the calls. I have come here mostly to take rest, so there won’t be any disturbance to me, and to take medication. Don’t bother calling me. I am fine. I will be fine,” he said.</p>

<p>He had been in critical condition the past few weeks and the last medical update from hospital had stated that the singer was on life support for the past few days.</p>

<p>The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has led to nationwide lockdown in India and while it is important to stay home, it has also raised concerns for daily wage earners who have been adversely affected due to the pandemic.<br />

Superstar Amitabh Bachchan has announced that he would be providing ration of 1,00,000 daily wage earners of the film fraternity. Bachchan has joined hands with Sony Pictures Networks India and Kalyan Jewellers for this initiative.<br />
"Given the unprecedented nature of the situation we are in, an initiative undertaken by Mr Bachchan, We Are One has been supported by Sony Pictures Networks India and Kalyan Jewellers, through which the monthly ration of 1,00,000 households across the country will be funded," a statement released by Sony Pictures Networks on Sunday read.<br />

"Through a commercial tie-up with a leading chain of hypermarkets and grocery stores in India, digitally barcoded coupons have been distributed to a verified list of workers from the All India Film Employees Confederation.<br />
Furthermore, monetary help has also been extended to those in need," the statement further said. &nbsp;<br />

The time period of this initiative is not clear, yet. In fact, Big B is not the only one. Producers guild too has been providing ration to daily wage earners. Several technicians on film sets are paid on per day basis and due to the lockdown, their incomes have been deeply affected.<br />

The superstar has been an active voice in spreading awareness around coronavirus right from the time PM Narendra Modi initiated the junta lockdown. Big B has already been part of an awareness video initiated by the Maharashtra government and will also be seen in another short film 'Family', which has been conceptualized and directed by Prasoon Pandey. <p>Actor-Politician Rajinikanth on Saturday urged people to participate in the `Janata Curfew` on March 22, an initiative by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to avoid COVID-19 spread in the country.</p>

<p>He took to Twitter and said, "I urge everyone to rise to the occasion and participate in the Janata Curfew by strictly staying indoors and practising social distancing."</p>

<p>Cautioning the public he said that Italy tried implementing similar nationwide curfew to prevent stage 3, but due to lack of support from the citizens, the efforts failed, resulting in the deaths of thousands of people to the pandemic.</p>

<p>&nbsp;"We don`t want such a crisis in India," he said.</p>

<p>He said that in this crucial time let us also remember and thank the selfless service of all the doctors, nurses and medical workers by participating in the nationwide appreciation and prayers at 5 pm on March 22.</p>

<p>1. "Both mainstream parties AIADMK and DMK have booth committees of around 50,000-60,000 party posts. These posts are needed during elections but aren’t required after winning. But after winning the polls and forming the government, the people holding these posts and their family members will take up contracts, tenders and be an impediment to the implementation of welfare schemes. This is bad for governance, the people and the party. We will keep only those that are needed".</p>

<p>2. "In the current legislative assembly, most members are aged above 50 and 60, those below the age of 50 are very few. New and young people don’t come into politics, if they do, it is because of influence. I envision a party where 60-65 per cent of people are aged below 50. Youth with adequate qualification and a decent social standing. The realigning 30-40 per cent would consist of retired judges, IAS, IPS and politicians. This would also include women. I will invite such genuine people who are admired by the masses and invite them to clean up the system."</p>

<p>3. "All across India, when it comes to state parties the party chief and head of government are the same people. If someone questions the leader, they will be shunted out. I propose one leader for the party and another leader for the government. There will be a council of experts who will recommence the necessary actions and decisions, policies and the political leadership and will be held responsible for implementing it - more like the role of a CEO. The party leader should not interfere in the work of the government and won’t disturb them, but will monitor them like an opposition party and replace those in government if they are found to be at fault.</p>

<p>Rajinikanth also said: “I have never even thought of becoming the CM of Tamil Nadu or sitting in the Assembly and speaking. It is not even in my blood. I want a new wave, new power and&nbsp;new blood to go to seize power in the assembly and Rajini will be a bridge for this”.</p>

Rajinikanth's 'Into The Wild' episode with Bear Grylls now has a release date

<p>Actor Rajinikanth has said that the violence in Delhi is a failure of intelligence agencies and the home ministry, as the violence has occurred at a time when US President Donald Trump was in the National capital.</p>

<p>He said that the intelligence agencies should have maintained vigil and done their job, adding that violence should be dealt with an iron fist. He expressed hope that the concerned authorities would be cautious henceforth.</p>

<p>Speaking to reporters outside his Poes Garden residence, Rajini reiterated that he would be the first one to stand with the Muslims community if the Citizenship Amendment Act was found to be affecting them in any way.</p>

<p>"Some parties are playing politics using religion and are instigating people, this is not the right path. If the Central government doesn't quell this violence it will become a serious issue in the future" he said.</p>

<p>Regarding his understanding of CAA-NRC-NPR, Rajini said that the government has not implemented NRC and we shouldn't get confused over it.</p>

<p>"With iron hands, the violence must be quelled or they should resign and go. Its going beyond control. Peaceful protests are fine, but it shouldn’t make way for violence, then why do we have intelligence agencies?".</p>

<p>Shortly, after Rajini spoke to reporters, actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan tweeted his compliments for Rajinikanth in Tamil, appreciating his stance on Delhi violence.</p>

The superstar has been asked to depose before the commission on February 25th.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Speaking to the media in Tuticorin on May 30th, after visiting the protestors who were injured in the violence, Rajini had asserted that, anti-social elements had managed to infiltrate into the protests and unleashed violence, which led to police firing. Despite drawing flak for his comments from the protestors and political parties, the actor stood his ground.</p>

<p>When he has demanded a clarification on the evidence behind his remarks, Rajini said, “Don’t ask me how I know, I know all of that.”</p>

<p>The commission led by retired Madras High Court Judge Aruna Jagadeesan was set up by the Tamil Nadu government after protests against Vedanta’s Sterlite copper smelter plant in Thoothukudi district took a violent turn on May 22 with at least 13 people were killed in alleged police firing.</p>

<p>Filmmaker Shankar goes all guns blazing and delivers one of the most technically sound films that India has ever seen. His latest, '2.0' starring two giants of Indian cinema, Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar is everything that you had thought it would be - going by its trailer- and a lot more.&nbsp;</p>

<p>One expects Rajinikanth's films to be larger than life, sometimes even a tad ridiculous, but '2.0' attempts to not just be an out and out commercial film, but also give a commentary on today's times where we all are so depended on our smartphones.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The film picks up from where 'Enthiran' or 'Robot' ended. Genius scientist Vaseegaran(Rajini) has put the evil Chitti in the museum after he created mayhem on the streets of Chennai a few years back. He now has a humanoid assistant called Nila (Amy Jackson) who is more attuned to human emotions and helps Vaseegaran with his day to day work.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Vaseegaran though is compelled to bring back Chitti or rather reboot him when a peculiar crisis grips the city of Chennai. Cellphones from the entire city start disappearing from the city. As authorities scratch their head wondering who is stealing the entire city's mode of communication, a few prominent leaders and businessman get killed. The government is left with no choice but to bring back Chitti to help them solve the case.&nbsp;</p>

<p>'2.0' has its usual trappings. Some of the plot points do not really make sense and there are certain scenes which are utterly ridiculous and reserved simply for entertainment purpose. But at its core, the film is a social commentary on our over-dependence on technology and how we as a race are heading towards a colossal disaster.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Among the actors, Rajinikanth is, naturally, omnipresent. He plays not one or two but technically four characters. A good and an evil version of Vaseegaran, then 2.0 version of Chitti and also a 3.0 version. The actor owns every scene he is in but interestingly gives ample screen time to the other star of the film, Akshay Kumar. Kumar's character is shown at the end of first half, but he gets a backstory (in the second half) which explains audience the reason why he became the antagonist and how he transformed into a birdman or as he is called Pakshi Raj. Credit to Shankar, who is also the writer of the film, to give Kumar such a prominent role in a Rajini film.&nbsp;</p>

The plot is basic, there are times where you find yourself laughing out loud at the illogical things, but ultimately VFX saves the day, creating an unbelievable yet awe-inspiring world.&nbsp;</p>

The superstar is currently shooting for 'Thalaivar 168'. The actor who turned 69 in December 2019, reportedly had to shoot in severe conditions inside the tiger reserve. Meanwhile, Grylls is also back with the latest edition of his National Geographic's show 'Running Wild With Bear Grylls' where he will be seen challenging, where we will see celebrities such as Channing Tatum, Brie Larson, Joel McHale, Cara Delevingne, Rob Riggle, Armie Hammer and Dave Bautista channelling their inner steel to take on adventurous challenges in remote wilderness.
