<p>Rajini stated that Thuglak was the only magazine to carry the story on the incident where pictures of Lord Ram were garlanded with slippers and paraded.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He said the Tamil magazine was the only one to cover this event, adding that the founder Cho Ramaswamy had condemned this. “This brought a bad name to the ruling DMK who did not want the magazine to be circulated,” Rajinikanth said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“The issue was seized by the government but Cho reprinted it and the magazine was sold in black. What was sold for Rs 10, was then sold for Rs 50 and Rs 60.”</p>

<p>Member of the fringe groups also filed a complaint in Coimbatore, under Indian Penal Code sections 153 (a) (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief).</p>

<p>Addressing reporters outside his residence, Rajini stated that his comments were based on news reports that he read in the famous English newspapers and magazines. Rajini's PR team also shared pictures of the news clippings that the actor had mentioned.</p>

<p>Shortly after Rajini had made the comments outside his residence, a group of 50 protestors belonging to a fringe outfit were detained and taken away by police as they raised slogans and protested at the Semmozhi Poonga,(a public park) which is located at the heart of Chennai city and is in the vicinity of Rajini's residence.</p>

<p>Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) leader Kamal Haasan on Tuesday said that if needed he and his friend of over four decades, southern superstar Rajinikanth can "come together for the development of Tamil Nadu".</p>

<p>"Our friendship is continuing for the last 44 years. If needed we can come together for the development of Tamil Nadu," Haasan said while speaking to reporters.</p>

<p>Similar views were also echoed by his long-time friend and colleague from the film fraternity, Rajinikanth who stated that he is ready to come together with Haasan for the benefit of people.</p>

<p>"For the benefit of the people if there is a situation to form an alliance with Kamal Haasan, we will definitely come together," Rajinikanth said.</p>

<p>Earlier on November 8, Hasan had said that he and Rajinikanth have differing political views, yet they will always respect each other.</p>

<p>"Both of us (Rajinikanth and Haasan), at a point in time, decided that we'll respect each other as we believed that the future was going to be good for both of us. Respect SC's judgement, people should strive for country's growth: Rajinikanth

<p>Actor Rajinikanth on Friday said that attempts were being made (including by some media houses) to portray him in the saffron hue, but he would not fall into that trap and it wouldn’t have any impact on him.&nbsp;</p>

<p>His statements came while he was speaking to reporters outside his Poes Garden residence and shared his take on various issues including the raging political debate in Tamil Nadu over the politicisation of the legacy of Tamil poet and philosopher Thiruvalluvar - a revered sage.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The political tug-of-war began after Tamil Nadu BJP leaders put up posts on social media depicting the sage in saffron robes in an apparent attempt to suggest that he was a Hindu. Traditional pictures of the sage often depict him in white robes.</p>

<p>The incident led Dravidian politicians and members of other faiths contest the claim and state that it amounted to misappropriating Thiruvalluvar's literary and philosophical heritage.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In his Independence Day address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi too had quoted Thiruvalluvar- “neer indri amaiyadhu ulagu (the world can’t survive without water)".&nbsp;</p>

<p>Speaking on the issue, Rajini said “Thiruvalluvar is a great saint and belongs to everyone, he is beyond caste and religion. Thiruvalluvar is a God-believer and it is understood if one reads his couplets. Kamal Haasan completes 60 years in films; grand celebrations planned

<p>Megastar Rajinikanth mourned the death of two-year-old Sujith Wilson, who was found dead in a bore well in Nadukattupatti, Tiruchirappalli on Tuesday morning.<br />

Extending condolences to the slain boy`s family, the actor tweeted: "It pains me to hear the tragic demise of Sujith. Let his soul rest in peace. My condolences to his family."</p>

<p>The body of the minor was discovered in a borewell in the wee hours of Tuesday by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).<br />
Sujith`s body was found in a highly decomposed state as explained by the Principal Secretary of Transport Department J Radhakrishnan earlier.<br />

"Sujith is now in a decomposed state. All efforts were put in to bring the child alive but now, in an unfortunate turn of events, bad smell has started to come from the borewell in which the child had fallen," Radhakrishnan had told media persons while quoting doctors.<br />
<br />
Government officials and rescue workers were working continuously for the last 80 plus hours to retrieve the child. On October 25, Sujith fell into the borewell while playing near his house at about 5:30 pm in Tiruchirappalli.<br />
&nbsp;<br />
Later, he slipped further down into the borewell, with an official stating that Wilson was stuck at a depth of 88 feet. More than six crews from the NDRF, as well as the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), were deployed to rescue the two-year-old.<br />

Tamil Nadu Ministers like Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam was personally monitoring the rescue operations and had met the family of the infant on Monday.<br />
<br />
As per the district collector`s order, the borewell has been filled and sealed with cement lid later in the day to avoid any similar incident in the future.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Leaders from across the spectrum in Tamil Nadu have united in taking a stance against the comments of the home minister.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The opposition party Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has called for a state-wide Anti-Hindi protest on Friday.&nbsp;</p>

<p>DMK President MK Stalin said, ''The Prime Minister should clarify his stand, otherwise the DMK will get ready for another language war. This is India, not 'Hindia’. There is a threat to India’s unity after attempting to thrust Hindi in Railways, Postal jobs. DMK will not hesitate to unite states which stand to lose rights due to Hindi dominance.''</p>

<p>Rajini’s friend and fellow actor Kamal Haasan, who is also the President of political party Makkal Needhi Maiam, lashed out at Amit Shah and said, ''No Shah, Sultan or Samrat can renege on the 1950 promise of the Government of our Constitutional Republic that the people will not have to give up their language, culture or traditions.''</p>

<p>He also added that the battle for the language will be exponentially bigger than that of the 2017 Jallikattu protests and India or Tamil Nadu did not deserve such as battle.</p>

<p>Tamil culture minister K Pandiarajan, whose party the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) is in an alliance with the BJP had warned of an adverse reaction from other states as well.</p>

<p>Pandiarajan said that if the Centre ever imposes Hindi unilaterally, them there will only be an (adverse) reaction and no support, not only in Tamil Nadu but also across states such as West Bengal, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.</p>

<p>The city is facing a severe crisis with all four major reservoirs supplying water going bone dry, forcing residents to look for alternatives to tide over the crisis.</p>

<p>Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio had recently expressed concern over the acute water crisis in Tamil Nadu.</p>

<p>The 44-year-old actor, one of the most vocal environmentalists in Hollywood, had shared a post by news outlet BBC on Instagram with the title, "Only rain can save Chennai from this situation".</p>

<p>Rajinikanth replied in the affirmative when asked whether he was upset at not being able to cast his vote in the recently held South Indian Artists Association election.</p>

<p>"Yes (I am upset). Because I did not receive the postal votes on time", Rajinikanth said.</p>

<p>The bi-annual South Indian Artists Association was held on June 23 as per the orders of the Madras High Court. Nearly 1,604 actors and actresses, including top actors Kamal Hassan and Vijay, cast their votes.</p>

<p>However, Rajinikanth missed out as he was in Mumbai for shooting for his upcoming flick 'Durbar'.</p>

<p>He had expressed his regret at not being able to vote in a tweet, saying that he had received the postal votes for the election only at 6.45 pm on June 22 despite his efforts to get it earlier.&nbsp;</p>

Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio had recently expressed concern over the acute water crisis in Tamil Nadu. The 44-year-old actor, one of the most vocal environmentalists in Hollywood, had shared a post by news outlet BBC on Instagram with the title, "Only rain can save Chennai from this situation". Rajinikanth replied in the affirmative when asked whether he was upset at not being able to cast his vote in the recently held South Indian Artists Association election. "Yes (I am upset). Because I did not receive the postal votes on time", Rajinikanth said. The bi-annual South Indian Artists Association was held on June 23 as per the orders of the Madras High Court. Nearly 1,604 actors and actresses, including top actors Kamal Hassan and Vijay, cast their votes. However, Rajinikanth missed out as he was in Mumbai for shooting for his upcoming flick 'Durbar'. He had expressed his regret at not being able to vote in a tweet, saying that he had received the postal votes for the election only at 6.45 pm on June 22 despite his efforts to get it earlier.

<p>Tamil superstar Rajinikanth on Tuesday described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a "charismatic" leader like Jawaharlal Nehru and Rajiv Gandhi and attributed the BJP's massive win in the Lok Sabha polls to his leadership.</p>

<p>"This Lok Sabha poll victory is a win for the individual leadership called Modi. It is the victory for a charismatic leader," he told reporters in Chennai.</p>

<p>He also said that he would be attending Modi's swearing-in on Thursday.</p>

<p>Speaking of the impact of leadership in politics he said, at the central level or state level, leaders are those who lead the respective parties to victory. "At the national level, after Jawaharlal Nehru, there were Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Vajpayee and now Narendra Modi. At the state level in Tamil Nadu, we had a Kamarajar, Anna, Kalaignar, MG Ramachandran and Jayalalithaa," said the actor.</p>

<p>On the national mandate he said, apart from Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, there has been a Modi wave that has swept across, and that "nobody could swim against it". "Those who went with the wave have won," he added.</p>

<p>On the dismal performance of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Tamil Nadu he said that the the issues such as NEET, hydrocarbon extraction project, Sterlite police firing and the strong campaign of the opposition parties have played a major role.</p>

<p>About his expectations from the new government he said, "They should definitely take Tamil Nadu seriously and work for the state and also link the rivers Cauvery, Godavari and Krishna."</p>

<p>He also appreciated fellow actor and debutant politician Kamal Haasan for garnering around four per cent vote share on debut.</p>
