After meeting the district secretaries of Rajini Makkal Mandram (his unified fans club Rajini People’s Forum) actor Rajinikanth said that he is personally disappointed about a certain issue, about which he would reveal later and that he was able to discuss a wide range of ideas with the functionaries and answer their questions.

On the meeting, he said, “After a year’s gap I have met the district secretaries, they had a lot of questions and I answered them all and we exchanged a lot of ideas. They are very satisfied. However, there is one issue that I am not personally very pleased about and I will reveal it later.”

On a meeting he had with the Muslim clerics and community leaders pertaining to the CAA and other issues, he said, “It was a very sweet meeting and we emphasized on brotherhood love and peace and they assured that they were ready to uphold these values. I offered them my support for the same.”

“I also suggested that it would be nice if the clerics met Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss the issues such as CAA and that I would provide the necessary help, within my capacity.”

When asked about the possibility of Tamil Nadu’s political vacuum being filled by the Rajini-Kamal duo, the actor replied: “Only time will tell”. Out must be noted that 2021 will be the first election that will be fought in Tamil Nadu in the absence of iconic leaders J Jayalalithaa and M Karunanidhi.

Rajini’s meeting with the district functionaries gains significance as the actor had always maintained that his aim was the 2021 Tamil Nadu assembly polls, with barely a year to go for the polls, there have also been rumours doing the rounds that the actor might float his party by mid-2020.

The elections in 2021 would prove to be a tough fight between the ruling AIADMK led by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and the Opposition DMK led by MK Stalin. With Kamal having floated his outfit in February 2018 and Rajini’s political entry being speculated, the race only gets more intense.

Rajinikanth's 'Into The Wild' episode with Bear Grylls now has a release date

Actor Rajinikanth has said that the violence in Delhi is a failure of intelligence agencies and the home ministry, as the violence has occurred at a time when US President Donald Trump was in the National capital.

He said that the intelligence agencies should have maintained vigil and done their job, adding that violence should be dealt with an iron fist. He expressed hope that the concerned authorities would be cautious henceforth.

Speaking to reporters outside his Poes Garden residence, Rajini reiterated that he would be the first one to stand with the Muslims community if the Citizenship Amendment Act was found to be affecting them in any way.

On the violence in Delhi, Rajini said, "This is an intelligence failure and I criticize the central government for this". When asked about the hate speeches that were made during the Delhi election campaign, Rajini said that everybody can't be blamed, held responsible for the words of a few.

He stated that the media must exercise restraint and not provoke anybody in such a situation.

"Some parties are playing politics using religion and are instigating people, this is not the right path. If the Central government doesn't quell this violence it will become a serious issue in the future" he said.

When asked about the ongoing protests by the Muslim community against the CAA, Rajini replied that CAA was a law that was passed by both Houses of Parliament and had also received the President's assent.

"I believe that the CAA won’t be revoked, no matter whatever protests take place and this is my opinion. For expressing my opinions, many senior journalists and political analysts are painting me as a BJP mouthpiece and it is very disappointing, but I am only speaking the truth."

Regarding his understanding of CAA-NRC-NPR, Rajini said that the government has not implemented NRC and we shouldn't get confused over it.

"With iron hands, the violence must be quelled or they should resign and go. Its going beyond control. Peaceful protests are fine, but it shouldn’t make way for violence, then why do we have intelligence agencies?".

Shortly, after Rajini spoke to reporters, actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan tweeted his compliments for Rajinikanth in Tamil, appreciating his stance on Delhi violence.

The tweet roughly translated to "Very good Rajini, the path you have chosen is a good one. It is not a path that one walks alone, but a royal path chosen by an entire race. Come along, congratulations".

It must be noted that Rajini and Kamal have had differing views on various contemporary issues. While Rajini has been largely in favour of the PM Modi government's schemes and decisions including demonetisation, GST, abrogation of Article 370, CAA, river-interlinking project etc. Kamal Haasan has been a fierce critic of the central government on many issues including the CAA.

Rajinikanth issued summons over ‘anti-social elements’ remark on Tuticorin violence, firing

Actor Rajinikanth has come out in support of the Citizenship Amendment Act and said that it will not affect Indian Muslims who have chosen India as their motherland during partition, adding that there was a lot of misleading information that was being spread due to ulterior motives of political parties and religious groups.

Rajini added that he would be the first to step out and rise in protest if and when CAA affects Indian Muslims.

On the National Population Register(NPR), Rajini said that, it is very necessary for the country. "It is a must to conduct a census of the Indian population in 2021. Don't we need to know who are Indians and who are from outside? This is very important and I don't know what is the issue with this is."

Regarding the NRC, Rajini said that the procedure for NRC hasn't started and that deliberations were still underway about it.

On the protests that have been taking place across major parts of the country over CAA-NRC, the actor cautioned students to not get misled by the false propaganda. He urged students to think well and make informed decisions after consulting with their elders, faculty before embarking on protests.

When asked about CAA not having included Sri Lankan Tamils, Rajini stated that he was in favour of citizenship being granted to Tamil refugees who are living in camps across Tamil Nadu for several years. However, he also added that the Tamils living in Sri Lanka must not be considered as they have been living there since the time of the Chola empire.

Rajini’s comments come at a time when the DMK and their allies are involved in a state-wide signature campaign against the CAA. DMK and their allies have been collecting signatures of those opposed to the CAA, to hand it over to the president of India and demand that the CAA be withdrawn.

In an apparent response to Rajini(without stating him by name), who stated that students were being misled by political parties, DMK President MK Stalin tweeted, “It brings happiness to know that students themselves are voicing out against the CAA and taking part in the signature campaign. Voices of dominance which suggest that political parties are instigating students aren’t new, they are similar to those that spoke during anti-Hindi agitation. Just like during the anti-Hindi agitation our peaceful protests will be successful.”

Speaking to reporters, Stalin’s son and DMK Youth wing leader Udhayanidhi Stalin said, “nobody is forcing the students, across the country students are coming out and protesting on their own. As Rajini is still an actor, he hasn’t understood politics. After he floats a political party, I will respond to him.”

Don't we need to know who are Indians and who are from outside? This is very important and I don't know what is the issue with this is." On the protests that have been taking place across major parts of the country over CAA-NRC, the actor cautioned students to not get misled by the false propaganda. He urged students to think well and make informed decisions after consulting with their elders, faculty before embarking on protests. Just like during the anti-Hindi agitation our peaceful protests will be successful.” Speaking to reporters, Stalin’s son and DMK Youth wing leader Udhayanidhi Stalin said, “nobody is forcing the students, across the country students are coming out and protesting on their own. As Rajini is still an actor, he hasn’t understood politics. After he floats a political party, I will respond to him.”

Filmmaker Shankar goes all guns blazing and delivers one of the most technically sound films that India has ever seen. His latest, '2.0' starring two giants of Indian cinema, Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar is everything that you had thought it would be - going by its trailer- and a lot more.

One expects Rajinikanth's films to be larger than life, sometimes even a tad ridiculous, but '2.0' attempts to not just be an out and out commercial film, but also give a commentary on today's times where we all are so depended on our smartphones.

The film picks up from where 'Enthiran' or 'Robot' ended. Genius scientist Vaseegaran(Rajini) has put the evil Chitti in the museum after he created mayhem on the streets of Chennai a few years back. He now has a humanoid assistant called Nila (Amy Jackson) who is more attuned to human emotions and helps Vaseegaran with his day to day work.

Vaseegaran though is compelled to bring back Chitti or rather reboot him when a peculiar crisis grips the city of Chennai. Cellphones from the entire city start disappearing from the city. As authorities scratch their head wondering who is stealing the entire city's mode of communication, a few prominent leaders and businessman get killed. The government is left with no choice but to bring back Chitti to help them solve the case.

'2.0' has its usual trappings. Some of the plot points do not really make sense and there are certain scenes which are utterly ridiculous and reserved simply for entertainment purpose. But at its core, the film is a social commentary on our over-dependence on technology and how we as a race are heading towards a colossal disaster.

Among the actors, Rajinikanth is, naturally, omnipresent. He plays not one or two but technically four characters. A good and an evil version of Vaseegaran, then 2.0 version of Chitti and also a 3.0 version. The actor owns every scene he is in but interestingly gives ample screen time to the other star of the film, Akshay Kumar. Kumar's character is shown at the end of first half, but he gets a backstory (in the second half) which explains audience the reason why he became the antagonist and how he transformed into a birdman or as he is called Pakshi Raj. Credit to Shankar, who is also the writer of the film, to give Kumar such a prominent role in a Rajini film.

The ultimate hero though is the VFX in the film. It transforms Chennai into Gotham/downtown Manhattan and makes the most ridiculous stunts look convincing. The usage of cell phones to create a humungous monster is very well done and helps one understand the magnanimity of the situation. The plot is basic, there are times where you find yourself laughing out loud at the illogical things, but ultimately VFX saves the day, creating an unbelievable yet awe-inspiring world.

The battle between the two massive robots, the entire fight sequence at the stadium is brilliantly executed at the editing table. Its also a great thing that songs are at minimal, which doesn't hamper the narrative.

'2.0' has released at the end of a year where Hollywood has had a deluge of superhero films in the past months. Most of these films have been widely accepted, revered by fans. If you have loved those films, there is no reason why you wouldn't love Shankar's film too. Of course, it is predictable, lacks logic in certain parts, but the VFX, Rajini and Akshay Kumar together make up for the flaws making the film thoroughly enjoyable.

After staying mum on the ongoing anti- CAA protest for days, Tamil superstar broke his silence on Thursday and expressed concern over the violence in several parts of the country over the Citizenship Amendment Act.
Reacting to the ongoing situation, the actor shared a tweet on Friday, "Violence cannot be a way out for any issue. Rather it should not become a solution. People must have a love for the country, think better for the country and have unity amongst themselves. The present situation of violence pains my heart."

Rajinikanth, who was not explicit whether he is supporting the CAA and NRC, said that "violence should not be the solution for the problems".

Asking to bring an end to the violence, the actor`s statement got the attention of both the critics and the supporters on twitter. His statement was criticised by many who are furious on his take on the issue as they considered it was an insult to the student community.
On the other hand, his supporters were quick to list out some examples of peaceful protests carried by the star himself earlier favouring his idea of peaceful protests.

Meanwhile, Rajinikanth's friend, actor Kamal Haasan, has strongly condemned CAA and expressed his solidarity to students. Haasan has been regularly tweeting, condemning arrests of intellectuals and students by the police.

Rajinikanth thinks he has not made any progress in his style of acting.

As he gets ready for the release of his upcoming film ‘Darbar’ that pitches him as a stylish and charming cop, the superstar revealed, "I don't see any progress in my acting. In the beginning of our career, we all feel a little shy and nervous but as you work more, it increases your confidence. I think acting mainly depends on the director and how he extracts acting from an actor."

The trailer launch of ‘Darbar’ saw other actors like Suniel Shetty and Prateik Babbar, that play important roles in the film. The film is directed by AR Murugadoss. It has Santosh Sivan as cinematographer and music by Anirudh Ravichander with singer Armaan Malik.

Popularly referred to as ‘Thalaiva’, Rajinikanth said, "I also feel that reacting to a situation or your co-actors' dialogues is what acting is about. Some actors are natural, and some are spontaneous. I don't see any change in my acting when I look back at my career."

When asked at the trailer launch about his inspiration, he said, "I have said this many times. It is Amitabh Bachchan. He is my inspiration. He inspires me not only in front of the camera but off screen, too.”

On his fondest memory with Amitabh Bachchan, Rajinikanth said, "There are many moments. He loves me. The third thing he told me is, 'don't enter politics'."

"I have followed his first two advices but the third thing, I couldn't follow because of the circumstances. So, I have learnt so many things from him. People say I do comedy and other characters very well but I have learnt it from Amitji," he added.

Respect SC's judgement, people should strive for country's growth: Rajinikanth

Actor Rajinikanth on Friday said that attempts were being made (including by some media houses) to portray him in the saffron hue, but he would not fall into that trap and it wouldn’t have any impact on him.

His statements came while he was speaking to reporters outside his Poes Garden residence and shared his take on various issues including the raging political debate in Tamil Nadu over the politicisation of the legacy of Tamil poet and philosopher Thiruvalluvar - a revered sage.

The political tug-of-war began after Tamil Nadu BJP leaders put up posts on social media depicting the sage in saffron robes in an apparent attempt to suggest that he was a Hindu. Traditional pictures of the sage often depict him in white robes.

The incident led Dravidian politicians and members of other faiths contest the claim and state that it amounted to misappropriating Thiruvalluvar's literary and philosophical heritage.

In his Independence Day address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi too had quoted Thiruvalluvar- “neer indri amaiyadhu ulagu (the world can’t survive without water)".

Speaking on the issue, Rajini said “Thiruvalluvar is a great saint and belongs to everyone, he is beyond caste and religion. Thiruvalluvar is a God-believer and it is understood if one reads his couplets. The BJP on Twitter had portrayed him in a saffron hue but that is their opinion and they didn’t say that all of Thiruvalluvar’s statues should be in saffron or that holy ash must be smeared.”

Rajini dismissed the political controversy over Thiruvalluvar as ‘silly’ and emphasised the issue did not deserve the kind of attention it was being given. He stated that the issues of the common man are to be focussed upon.

Regarding his meeting with BJP leader Pon Radhakrishnan and the probability of joining the BJP, the actor said, “he didn’t make any offer”.

Responding to a question on the Indian economy, Rajini said that the economic growth was in a very bad state and that the government should do everything that is needed.

When asked about his impending decision to join politics and whether he would continue acting, he responded, “I can join any party, there is nothing wrong in parties asking me to join but they shouldn’t keep depending on me. I am the only one to decide on my political foray. I will keep acting in films until I enter politics. MGR also kept acting till his party won and he became the Chief Minister”.

Rajini added that there was still a vacuum for a talented administrator in Tamil Nadu politics.

The actor had made a mention of “spiritual politics” in the year 2017 when he had announced unifying his fan clubs under the banner ‘Rajini Makkal Mandram”. He had talked about his political debut then.

There have been various instances in the past when Rajini had expressed his appreciation for the Modi government’ and its move such as demonetization, river-interlinking project, scrapping of Article 370, 'One Nation One Poll' policy among others.

Lauding the revocation of special status for Jammu and Kashmir, Rajini hailed the move as ‘fantastic’ and compared the Modi-Shah duo to Arjuna and Krishna, adding that, “we don’t know who is Arjuna and who is Krishna, only they (Modi and Shah) know.”

Government officials and rescue workers were working continuously for the last 80 plus hours to retrieve the child. On October 25, Sujith fell into the borewell while playing near his house at about 5:30 pm in Tiruchirappalli.

Later, he slipped further down into the borewell, with an official stating that Wilson was stuck at a depth of 88 feet. More than six crews from the NDRF, as well as the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), were deployed to rescue the two-year-old.

Rajinikanth has joined the league of celebrities and politicians that have voiced their opinion on the comments made by Home Minister Amit Shah on Hindi being a unifying language.

Speaking to reporters at the Chennai airport, Rajinikanth said, ''Not just in our country, but a common language would augment the progress, growth and unity in any country. But unfortunately, we can't bring a common language in our country. So, no language can be imposed on us. If they impose Hindi not just Tamil Nadu, but states across South India will not agree and even in North India many states won’t agree.''

Leaders from across the spectrum in Tamil Nadu have united in taking a stance against the comments of the home minister.

The opposition party Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has called for a state-wide Anti-Hindi protest on Friday.

DMK President MK Stalin said, ''The Prime Minister should clarify his stand, otherwise the DMK will get ready for another language war. This is India, not 'Hindia’. There is a threat to India’s unity after attempting to thrust Hindi in Railways, Postal jobs. DMK will not hesitate to unite states which stand to lose rights due to Hindi dominance.''

Rajini’s friend and fellow actor Kamal Haasan, who is also the President of political party Makkal Needhi Maiam, lashed out at Amit Shah and said, ''No Shah, Sultan or Samrat can renege on the 1950 promise of the Government of our Constitutional Republic that the people will not have to give up their language, culture or traditions.''

He also added that the battle for the language will be exponentially bigger than that of the 2017 Jallikattu protests and India or Tamil Nadu did not deserve such as battle.

Tamil culture minister K Pandiarajan, whose party the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) is in an alliance with the BJP had warned of an adverse reaction from other states as well.

Pandiarajan said that if the Centre ever imposes Hindi unilaterally, them there will only be an (adverse) reaction and no support, not only in Tamil Nadu but also across states such as West Bengal, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

Leaders of neighbouring southern states too were against the Home Minister’s stance.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated that the perception of only Hindi language can unite the country is completely wrong. The people in the South and Northeast don't speak Hindi, he added.

Pinarayi Vijayan called Amit Shah's Hindi pitch to make it their primary language an attempt to disown their mother tongue.

BJP leader and Karnataka Chief Minister Yeddyurappa tweeted out ''All official languages in our country are equal. However, as far as Karnataka is concerned, Kannada is the principal language. We will never compromise its importance and are committed to promoting Kannada and our state's culture.''

While the anti-Hindi agitations have been a movement in Tamil Nadu since the 1930s, it was the 1965 protests that helped dislodge the Congress government, which was replaced by DMK in the 1967 Assembly polls, hence enabling the uninterrupted rule of Dravidian parties - the DMK and AIADMK for over 52 years.
