Thus, at the post-match presentation, Danny Marrison tried putting Samson in a spot and asked him if he feels it is 'about time to get that IPL trophy back in the RR cabinet' this time around. To this, Samson had a cheeky response up his sleeves and said, "I think every season we come with great dreams. I think it's a franchise that really takes care of its players. It doesn't give too much pressure as you're giving me right now,” Samson told commentator Morrison after the match. “It likes to keep it as simple as possible. A new-look and re-energised Rajasthan Royals attacked from the outset and inflicted on Sunrisers Hyderabad a 61-run hammering to begin their campaign in IPL-15 on a rousing note here on Tuesday.

RR got the better of SRH in every department after skipper Sanju Samson led from the front with a scintillating 27-ball 55 to power his team to an imposing 210 for six.

Smarting from the pounding in the first half of their opening fixture, SRH failed to pose any serious threat to RR after a disastrous start to their innings, which saw them slip to 9/3 and then 29/4.

In the end, Kane Williamson's (2) team was stopped at 149 for seven, with the captain himself enduring a bad day in office.

SRH wouldn't have got even that many had it not been for Aiden Markram's unbeaten 57 and Washington Sundar's 14-ball 40, the latter somewhat making up with the willow after his forgettable outing with the ball.

SRH's top-order batting was in stark contrast to Samson and Devdutt Padikkal (41 off 29 balls; 4x4; 6x2), who added 73 runs for the third wicket off 41 balls, before Shimron Hetmyer used his brute power to clobber 32 in only 13 deliveries and take RR past 200.

Samson's six-hitting prowess was on display as he struck five maximums and three boundaries, sparing no bowler during his entertaining stay in the middle.

Later Hetymar smashed three sixes to pile on SRH's misery. A clinical show by the bowlers, led by leg-spinner Yuzvedra Chahal (3/22 in 4 overs), then completed the task for RR.

Chasing an improbable 211, Sunrisers lost key batter Williamson after a diving catch by Padikkal before Rahul Tripathi (0) became Prasidh Krishna's second victim of the day. It became 9/3 as Trent Boult trapped Nicolas Pooran (0) in front of the wicket.

To make matters worse, Chahal removed two more batters in Abhishek Sharma and Abdul Samad in quick succession, as Sunrisers lost half their side for 37 runs and stared at a heavy defeat.

But Markram, Romario Shepherd (24) and Sundar, who got 24 runs in the 17th over, delayed the inevitable and reduced the margin of defeat.

During the final over, pacer Nathan Coulter-Nile injured himself while landing and was taken off. Put into bat, Royals opener Jos Buttler got a life on zero courtesy a no ball. Buttler (35) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (20) then gave the side a flying start, adding 58 runs to lay the foundation for a big total.

Buttler was brutal on Umran Malik, hammering him for two fours and two maximums in the fourth over, as RR collected 21 runs.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)&nbsp;got off to the worst possible start in their run-chase against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in match number five of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Tuesday (March 29). SRH lost their skipper Kane Williamson cheaply on just 2 off 7 balls in the second over after a controversial decision from the third umpire.

After Rajasthan Royals posted a huge total of 210 runs on the board riding on brilliant knocks from their captain Sanju Samson (55), Devdutt Padikkal (41) and Shimron Hetmyer (31), SRH were looking to get off to a flyer in the run-chase. However, SRH were left reeling on 9/3 inside 4 overs in the Powerplay after losing three wickets in quick succession.

Indian pacer Prasidh Krishna drew the first blood for RR in the second over when he managed to get a nick off Williamson's bat which flew straight towards RR wicket-keeper Samson. Samson failed to pluck the catch as the ball slipped out of his gloves before being caught by Padikkal at slips.

However, the on-field umpires referred to the third umpire to review the catch and the replays clearly showed that the ball had touched the ground before going into Padiikkal's hands. But to everyone's shock, the third umpire gave the decision in the bowling team's favour as Williamson was asked to head back to the pavilion.

However, SRH were left reeling on 9/3 inside 4 overs in the Powerplay after losing three wickets in quick succession. The franchise has welcomed Sri Lankan legend Lasith Malinga as their new fast bowling coach and has also onboarded Paddy Upton in a new role of Team Catalyst.

The 38-year-old T20 World Cup-winning captain Malinga, who led his country to the 2014 ICC T20 World Cup trophy, will be working during the upcoming season with the talented group of pacers present within the Royals'&nbsp;set-up.

Renowned as one of the best limited-overs bowlers ever, Malinga will oversee the preparation of bowling strategies in the build-up and during the season, while also accelerating the development of the young bowlers by imparting his knowledge and expertise of T20 cricket.

During a career that spanned over 17 years, the right-arm fast bowler represented Sri Lanka in 340 matches across the three formats and picked up 546 wickets.

In the Indian Premier League, he only represented one team - Mumbai Indians - for whom he grabbed 170 scalps in 122 matches.

Most recently in February 2022, he served as Sri Lanka's Bowling Strategy Coach for their T20I series against Australia.

Speaking on his appointment, Malinga said, "It's a wonderful feeling for me to return to the IPL and an absolute honour to join Rajasthan Royals, a franchise that has always promoted and developed young talent. On the other hand, the appointment of Paddy Upton marks a return to the Royals for the South African, who has previously worked as the Head Coach of the franchise from 2013-15 and then in 2019, having led the team to top-four finishes in 2013 and 2015, along with a place in the Champions League in 2013.

Being the Team Catalyst, Upton will play a crucial role in establishing team integration by bringing them together as a cohesive and mutually supporting unit and looking after their mental well-being with the use of various mental conditioning processes and activities that aid in maintaining a healthy culture and environment, especially within the restrictions of being in a bio-bubble.

Upton will himself be a part of the bubble for the initial four weeks of the tournament while supporting virtually post the completion of this period.

The South African has previously also worked as the Mental Conditioning Coach for India Men's Team during the successful 2011 ICC World Cup, and as the Performance Director of South Africa Cricket from 2011-2014, guiding South Africa to become the first cricket team to hold the World No.1 ranking in all three formats of the game in 2012.

Meanwhile, like last season, Kumar Sangakkara will be assuming the role of Head Coach during the upcoming season, while being the Director of Cricket at the Royals outside of the season.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the complete schedule of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season. IPL 2022 is all set to get underway from March 26 with defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) locking horns with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the season-opener at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

This time around the Indian Premier League is all set to have ten instead of eight teams but each team will play 14 league games like before. The ten teams have been divided into two groups of five each with Mumbai Indians and CSK headlining Group A and B respectively.

Here is a look at the two groups for IPL 2022:

The final league game of the season will be played between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings on May 22. The playoffs are expected to get underway from May 24 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The entire legaue stage will be hosted by four venues in Maharashtra.

The Wankhede Stadium and DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai will host 20 matches each during the league stage while the Brabourne Stadium and the MCA Stadium in Pune will host 15 matches apiece.

Warne had led Rajasthan Royals to an IPL title win in the inaugural edition in 2008.

"He positively impacted the careers of so many - launching Ravindra Jadeja and Ajinkya Rahane, re-energising the careers of Shane Watson and Jos Buttler, working with Rahul Dravid and Graeme Smith, and helping so many young cricketers play at, and often, above their potential. This was his unique `gift`," said Badale.

Warne was one of the most influential cricketers in history. He almost single-handedly reinvented the art of leg-spin when he burst onto the international scene in the early 1990s, and by the time he retired from international cricket in 2007, he had become the first bowler to reach 700 Test wickets.

On Day 2 of the IPL 2022 mega auction, Jofra Archer went to the five-time winners Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday evening (February 13). With the MI team management not bidding for a lot of players from resigning Ishan Kishan for a whopping price, at INR 157.5 million on Saturday (February 12), many eyebrows were raised.

While the MI fans were surprised with the team's strategy, the former champions went for England pacer Archer, who had represented Rajasthan Royals (RR) since his debut season in 2018. For the unversed, Archer is highly unlikely to&nbsp;be available for the forthcoming IPL 2022 edition, in India, however, the MI Paltan have invested in him keeping the future seasons in mind.&nbsp;

With Archer's name attracting several players, despite injury concerns, franchises such as RR and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) also joined the bidding war before Rohit &amp; Co. had the last laugh by signing the wily pacer for INR 80 million (INR 8 crore). The bidding war even surprised Archer:

"Warner ko please lena, reels mast banata hai (Please take Warner, he makes good reels)," the fan had messaged the Royals.

"Mujhe le lo bhai mein sirf 15% equity lunga (Take me&nbsp;brother, I will take only 15% equity in return)," wrote another. Another fan came up with an even funnier request as he warned that franchise that he will unfollow them on social media if they didn't buy Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh at the mega auction this year.

Ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction, the existing eight teams in the league were given the opportunity of retaining a maximum of four players each. While most teams went for four retentions, Rajasthan Royals retained only three players ahead of the auction.
