England's Test team coach and former Kiwi cricketer Brendon McCullum opined it would be naive to think that the players would turn down lucrative T20 deals for international cricket.

McCullum, while speaking to Senz Radio, said that the game is going in a different direction and there's been a shifting of sand in recent times around international cricket.

"In the end, the game is going in a different direction. The last few years, there's been a shifting of the sand somewhat around international cricket and we'd be completely naive to think that players would turn down huge amounts of money on long-term contracts for a lot less work in these T20 leagues because they should be playing international cricket. Those days are fast approaching to be over," said England's red-ball coach.

Notably, McCullum himself is known for his exploits in the shortest format of the game. The most vivid memory of McCullum taking T20 to its pinnacle would have to be the opening match of the Indian Premier League (IPL). McCullum, playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders, smashed a belligerent 158 not out of just 72 balls against Royal Challengers Bangalore to kickstart the league.

With time and success, many countries have come up with their own T20 leagues to mirror IPL, but none has come close to the aura the Indian version has - be it about the price or the standard.

Players all around the world have also been keen to get a deal in the IPL as the league franchises monitor the players in every country to boost their talents. Some of the most famous T20 leagues around the world are Big Bash League (in Australia), Caribbean Premier League (in West Indian countries), and Pakistan Super League (in Pakistan).

Many players have come up through these leagues in the IPL and have established themselves as a force to reckon with, such as Afghan spinner Rashid Khan, West Indian all-rounder Andre Russell and more.

Lahore Qalandars became the first team to win back-to-back Pakistan Super League titles on Saturday, beating Multan Sultans by one run in a thrilling final.

Captain Shaheen Shah Afridi took 4-51 after smashing a rapid 44 not out but had to effect a run out at the bowler's end as Multan's Khushdil Shah tried to make a third run to force a super over.

Qalandars had scored 200-6 in their 20 overs before a packed 25,000 Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and Sultans finished on 199-8.

Qalandars had also defeated Sultans in last year's final.

Shaheen conceded 34 runs in his opening two overs as Sultans raced to 101-1 in 10 overs, with Rilee Rossouw (52) and Mohammad Rizwan (34) adding 64 for the second wicket.

Rossouw smashed seven fours and two sixes off just 32 balls.

But Shaheen returned for his second spell to dismiss Kieron Pollard (19), Tim David (20), Anwar Ali (one) and Usama Mir (nought).

With 35 needed in the last two overs, Shah and Abbas Afridi took 22 from Haris Rauf's 19th over but failed to get 13 in the last.

"We reached the final again and won the title for a second time so that's a reward for teamwork," said Shaheen.

"We played well in the final but it was a tense win."

Earlier, Qalandars were lifted by a rampaging Shaheen who clobbered a 15-ball 44 not out with five towering sixes and two fours, helping his team smash 85 runs in the last five overs.

Abdullah Shafique top-scored with a 40-ball 65.

Shafique and Fakhar Zaman (39) took Qalandars to 95-1 after their team won the toss and batted and opener Mirza Baig hammered an 18-ball 30.

But once Zaman was dismissed, Qalandars lost four wickets in the space of 18 balls, slumping to 112-5.

Shaheen promoted himself to number seven and instantly made an impact, as he and Shafique hit 24 runs in the 17th over from pacer Ihsanullah.

Leg-spinner Usama Mir was the pick of Sultans' bowlers with 3-24.

Pakistan and Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam broke legendary Chris Gayle’s record during his yet-another match winning knock in PSL 2023. During the Eliminator 1 against Islamabad United, Babar scored a 39-ball 64 and became the fastest player to 9000 T20 runs in just 245 innings – four quicker than Gayle’s 249. Babar also became the 16th batter overall and only the second Pakistani after former captain Shoaib Malik to reach this milestone.

While Chris Gayle still tops the chart with most runs to his name in the T20 format – 14,562, Malik is second on the list with 12,528 runs.

Talking about the match, Babar’s Peshawar were asked to bat first, and they got off to a flying start, crossing 50 inside the first four overs. Coming off from a rest, Babar looked in fine touch and was well-accompanied by Saim Ayub – who recently earned his maiden call-up to the senior team for the Afghanistan T20Is.

The 28-year-old kept finding gaps at will and completed his fifth half century this season. He then fell to Islamabad captain Shadab Khan on 64, who returned with figures of two for 40 in four overs. Handy runs from Mohammad Haris in the middle overs saw them put up 183 for eight in the first innings.

Batting-heavy Islamabad United lost Rahmanullah Gurbaz early inside the second over, but a 115-run stand between Alex Hales and Sohaib Maqsood helped them stay afloat in the crucial knockout game. Series of quick wickets had their backs against the wall, and even despite a 12-ball 26 from skipper Shadab, Islamabad fell short of the target by 12 runs.

As a result, they got crashed out of the tournament while Babar Azam-led Peshawar moved towards their next challenge – Lahore Qalandars. The winner of this match in the Eliminator 2 will take on Multan Sultan in the finals.

PSL 2023: Babar Azam breaks Chris Gayle's record following stunning 64 in Eliminator 1 vs Islamabad United

Pakistan and Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam has been subject to criticism for some time now. Recently questioned for playing selfishly during his maiden hundred-knock in the PSL by cricketer-turned-commentator Simon Doull, Babar decided to answer his critics. While speaking with Pakistan Cricket in a recent interaction, Babar said everyone has opinions and wants changes to happen overnight, which cannot just happen.

"Criticism is always there, whether you perform or not. Everyone has their own opinion. I think when you find any fault in your batting, it takes some time. People want things to get right immediately, which is not possible," Babar told Cricket Pakistan.

Commenting further on how things take time to improve and cannot happen at the drop of the hat, Babar said he believes in practising, adding that when he is out of touch, he trains double than usual.

"I think you can only perform in the match when you practice hard. I play 500-600 balls daily during my practice. Even double balls when I am out of form. I believe practice is so important for anyone who wants to perform on the ground," Babar added.

Meanwhile, having faced enough wrath from each corner over several things, Babar said even his father is not satisfied with his performance mostly. The 28-year-old added because his father wants him to stay grounded and keep performing well every time, he keeps advising him to improve. But then sometimes he does praise Babar, something he likes for a change.

"My father rarely gets satisfied with my performance because he doesn't want me to take things for granted. He always tries to give me some advice so that I can get better and better. Now, he sometimes praises me. But I think it's good for you that your elders keep guiding you and want more from you," Peshawar Zalmi captain said.

Speaking of performing well, Babar is currently the second-highest run-scorer with 416 runs in nine matches at a strike rate of 146.48. While he missed his side’s last league match against Islamabad United, he would return to the XI to face them in the first eliminator on Thursday, March 16th at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Jason Roy produced a brilliant knock in match 25 of the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023 edition on Wednesday (March 8). In a high-scoring affair between Babar Azam-led Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators, in Rawalpindi, Babar & Co. rode on captain's rode on captain's 115 to post 240 for 2 after opting to bat first. In reply, Mohammed Nawaz-led Gladiators managed to chase down the target in 18.2 overs with eight wickets in hand, with Roy smashing a whirlwind 63-ball 145*. His knock became the highest individual score in PSL history.

Such was the dominance by Roy, who is fresh from a century in England's 2-1 ODI series win over hosts Bangladesh, that the Englishman struck at a whopping 230.16. His inning included 20 fours and five sixes. Thus, 110 out of his 145 runs came in boundaries (68.75 per cent). Relive Roy's stupendous knock, which was shared on PSL's official Youtube channel:

Talking about the match, Babar's 115, Saim Ayub's 74 and Rovman Powell's 18-ball 35 not out propelled Peshawar to 240 for 2. While it was a huge total, Peshawar could have got more but Babar played some conservative cricket when he was nearing the triple-figure mark. In reply, Roy was in a punishable mode from the word go and timed everything from the middle of the blade. It seemed as if he was eager to score every run in the chase and targetted every side of the ground.

By virute of his memorable knock, Roy notched up the highest individual score in PSL history. Meanwhile, the Gladiators' run-chase of 241 is now the highest in the tournament, second-best in domestic T20s and fourth-best in T20s overall.

Babar Azam is among the top-five batters across formats in ICC rankings. He won the ICC Player of the Year award last month. While he continues to make rapid strides as a batter, questions have been raised on his captaincy in the recent past.

In the recent past, Pakistan have lost home Tests versus Australia, England and somehow managed a drawn series versus New Zealand. They also lost T20Is to the Aussies and Moeen Ali-led England in their own backyard last year, failed to win the Asia Cup 2022 final and 2022 T20 World Cup summit clash under Babar. Even in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023 edition, Babar's Peshawar Zalmi are at the fourth spot, with three wins and equal number of losses from six games.

Thus, many former cricketers and experts of the game have raised fingers on Babar's captaincy. Nonetheless, he continues to enjoy full support of his teammates. After Md Rizwan, Shaheen Afridi, Shadab Khan, Shan Masood, Haris Rauf has now joined the bandwagon and praised Babar's leadership skills.

“I strongly believe that the improvement in my performance is all because of Babar Azam. We played really good and exciting cricket in the last two years. In this period, we emerged as a good unit, especially in white-ball cricket, and the credit goes to our skipper Babar Azam, who trusted the abilities of players, which ultimately gave us the confidence,” Rauf told Dawn.

Rauf was part of Pakistan's Asia Cup and T20 WC campaigns. He has represented the Asian giants in one Tests, 18 ODIs and 57 T20Is. He is currently part of the Shaheen Afridi-led Lahore Qalandars in PSL 2023.

Earlier, Masood also made a big claim in support of Babar. While speaking with a local TV channel, as reported by Cricket Pakistan, the left-handed batter said, "Hum sab Babar Azam ke behind hai. Jis tarike se koi bhi aapka captain hota hai, jab Saifi bhai thai, tb bhi hum jaan dene ko taiyaar thai, ab jab Babar Azam hai, tb bhi hum jaan dene ko taiyaar hai. Leader first. Aur hum sabka common goal Pakistan hai."

Bahut saari hum khabre padhte hai, cheeje dekhte hai jo team ko idhar se udhar karne ki koshish karti hai, lekin personally, kisi ko kisi k saath koi vo nahi hai. Hum Pakistan k liye khelne aaye hai, ye bahut badi privilige hai. Hum sab uske saath hai (We were ready to give our lives when Sarfaraz Ahmed was our captain, and now we are ready to give our lives for Babar Azam. We watch a lot of news on criticism of the team, but we don't get bothered by it as our mutual goal is to play for our country), Masood stated.

'Credit goes to our skipper': Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf backs Babar Azam amid questions on his captaincy

Babar Azam is one of the most talented batters in current times in the modern era. He is among the top-five batters across formats currently, at the top spot in ODIs, and is regarded by many to become a legend by the time he signs off from the highest level. At times, he has been slammed for his ordinary strike rate in T20Is and most recently, Rawalpindi Express Shoaib Akhtar lashed out at him for not being able to communicate in English. Now, the former pacer took an indirect dig at him while praising Azam Khan's performances in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023.

After Azam Khan played a blinder in Islamabad United's 202-run chase versus Karachi Kings, Akhtar was left impressed by the youngster. He appreciated his well-compiled inning and also for how 'smartly he spoke in the interview'. Azam slammed a match-winning 41-ball 72*, laced with 8 fours and 4 sixes, at a whopping strike rate of 175.61. He is the son of former wicketkeeper-batter Moin Khan.

Akhtar praised Azam and said while speaking to Suno News, "I found Azam Khan to be a responsible guy who can build innings, not just slog. He spoke smartly in the interview as well, and it felt nice to hear him speak like that as he talked about his performance. When I was playing 20 years ago, I didn't care how I spoke. But in today's era, being in the media is part of your job. I can only indicate and pinpoint for you, ‘this is a problem, please go and correct it. It's for your own benefit'. He (Azam) looked like captaincy material with the way he spoke."

The ex-Pakistan speedster then took a dig at Babar and stated, "When Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Shahid Afridi, and Abdul Razzaq used to play, they would say, ‘the whole ground and its crowd is mine. I control the atmosphere in this place'. And Azam was controlling that. That's how you become a star. It's not just about winning ICC Player of the Year awards, no no. The things Azam did... the crowd backed him, and he took their ownership. He was like, ‘I'm here to run the show."

Notably, Babar won the ICC Player of the Year award in January. It will be interesting to see if the current Pakistan captain responds to Akhtar's blunt statement.

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023 edition got underway, in Pakistan, on February 13 (Monday). All eyes are many marquee players in the tournament who will look to put up a solid show whereas many discarded cricketers will hope for a memorable run to make a comeback into their respective national sides. Among the discarded players, Umar Akmal will hope for a smooth run in PSL 2023, where he is representing the Quetta Gladiators.

Ahead of the Gladiators' opening clash, where they face Md Rizwan-starrer Multan Sultans, Umar lashed out at a reporter when he was asked about his fitness and knack of uploading videos on Tik Tok. To this, Umar snapped at the journalist and said, "It is my personal life and it is in front of everyone. It would be better if you refrain from asking such questions."

Further, Umar also asserted that nothing is wrong with his fitness, claiming to be “superfit”. “Fitness is in front of you. I am not the only one. If you ask other players about it, they will also answer it in the same way,” he said. “I have worked very hard on my fitness and I am feeling super fit,” the swashbuckling right-hander added. This isn't the first instance where questions have been raised over Akmal's fitness. It was recently raised by former Pakistan all-rounder and captain Shahid Afridi. The ex-cricketer felt Umar was lucky to be picked by the Gladiators despite his string of poor performances.

"Umar Akmal should thank Quetta Gladiators because other franchises were not interested in picking him in PSL. Umar Akmal has problem of fitness since quite a long. I like him as a batter, but Umar Akmal still has to work upon his fitness a lot," Afridi was quoted as saying by cricketpakistan.com.pk.

Umar will be eager to silence his critics in PSL 2023. He last represented Pakistan in late 2019. He has 1,003, 3,194 and 1,690 runs in Tests, ODIs and T20Is, respectively.

It would be better if you refrain from asking such questions." Further, Umar also asserted that nothing is wrong with his fitness, claiming to be “superfit”. “Fitness is in front of you. I am not the only one. If you ask other players about it, they will also answer it in the same way,” he said. “I have worked very hard on my fitness and I am feeling super fit,” the swashbuckling right-hander added. In the final over, the right-handed Iftikhar smashed the first ball to the leg side before pulling the next one into the deep square leg area. The third shot was straight down the ground while the next three sixes were hit square on the off side with smaller boundaries. Not only those sixes went for distance, they were hit cleanly too – giving an idea of how good a form Iftikhar is in. Meanwhile, Wahab, who conceded 36 in the final over, ended with figures of three for 47.

Babar Azam has been thrown under the bus by some former players for his mediocre form and average captaincy during the recently-concluded T20 World Cup. Though Pakistan did reach the summit clash where they lost to England by five wickets, Babar Azam’s form was a big worry for every Pakistani fans. During the World Cup, Babar scored just 134 runs with just one fifty and two double-digit scores to his name. This was all but worrying for a batsman who has been on the top of the game for a long time now.

Speaking to Samaa TV post the T20 World Cup, Pakistan legend and former captain Shahid Afridi had some words of advice for Babar. Afridi has suggested Babar must step aside from T20I captaincy and instead focus on his batting which could help him reach heights in longer formats.

Besides this, he even suggested Babar should take a tough call and step aside from his PSL franchise Karachi Kings’ captaincy post as well. "Babar was not happy with the management at Karachi Kings as it is. I feel he should take a tough call and quit captaincy in T20 cricket. However, Afridi insisted that Babar must continue leading the side in Tests and ODIs and even suggested a few names who could potentially replace him as a skipper in T20Is.

"I respect Babar a lot and that's why I don't want him to take the pressure of captaincy in T20 cricket. I want him to focus on his captaincy in longer formats. You do have players like Shadab, Rizwan, and even Shan Masood who can lead the team in the T20 format," Afridi said.

The schedules of the 2025 editions of the Pakistan Super League and the Indian Premier League in the summer are destined to clash with each other. This is because of Pakistan's packed home season as hosts of that year's edition of the ICC Champions Trophy.

The IPL's action kicks off in March and goes on for two and a half months to end at the beginning of June. Although the PSL usually commences at the beginning of the year in January and goes on till February, the Pakistan Cricket Board was forced to postpone the tournament to March and May due to their obligations as the host of the Champions Trophy in February 2025.

The 2025 edition of the ICC Champions Trophy marks the first time the international governing body has moved to host a tournament in the country after 30 year long hiatus. Safety and security issues in the country were the main reasons why Pakistan lost the right to host international tournaments on home soil during the past three Future Tours and Programme Cycles (FTP).

However, they have seemingly earned the trust of the cricketing community as they are currently hurtling towards an extremely busy and packed season of international cricket. Pakistan is set to compete in 27 T20Is, 26 ODIs and 13 Tests on home soil in addition to the ICC Champions Trophy.

PCB Chief Executive Faisal Hassan recently issued a statement justifying their decision to move the schedule around, "While finalising our Future Tours Programme 2023-2027 in a tight and densely-packed cricket calendar, we have given priority to context, quality and player workload."

All said and done, it will be interesting to note how the PSL will compete against the mighty IPL in terms of enjoying international attention, viewership and more. Most importantly, however, is which league the players, who ply their trade in both formats, will pick.

Pakistan Super League to clash with IPL in 2025, here's why

The IPL media rights auction was a huge hit as many had their eyes glued on how the proceedings would eventually end. After a three-day auction, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) laughed its way to the bank by earning a staggering INR 48,390.52 crore from the media rights auction for IPL 2023-27, i.e. more than two and a half times the amount it earned for the previous cycle in 2018.

Thus, IPL continues to grow worldwide and is now also the second most lucrative sports league across the globe, only behind National Football League (NFL). After the auction, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah was elated with IPL's rising demand and revealed that from the next season, the cash-rich league's window will expand further, i.e. for a two-and-a-half-month period.

"From the next FTP cycle, IPL will have an official two-and-a-half-month window so that all the top international cricketers can participate. We have had discussions with various boards as well as the ICC," Shah had said in an interview with PTI. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) isn't happy with this development.

Reacting to Shah's revelation, PCB is now eyeing the ICC board meeting at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham to discuss the topic in length.

"The ICC board meeting will be held during the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in July and this matter will probably be discussed there," a PCB source said, as per PTI. "Mr Jay Shah has said the BCCI is committed to international bilateral cricket but with so many leagues cropping up and the IPL planning expansion this has to be discussed among the cricket boards," the PCB official further added.

Former Pakistan pacer Tanvir Ahmed has lashed out at Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja over his decision to launch the Pakistan Junior League. The Pakistan Junior League will be a mini version of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for the U-19 cricketers in Pakistan. The tournament is also being referred to as Junior PSL in the country.

The Pakistan Junior League will feature six teams and a total of 19 games. The inaugural edition of the tournament is set to be played in October this year, as confirmed by the PCB. While PCB is looking at the Pakistan Junior League as a platform to identify budding talents in the country, it will also be a new revenue source for the board.

However, the idea of junior PSL has not gone down well with many in Pakistan, including former Pakistan pacer Tanvir Ahmed, who has slammed Raja. Ahmed said Raja is going to destroy Pakistan cricket with such decisions as he believes T20 cricket is not the right format for the youngsters to learn and that they need to focus on playing long-form cricket first.

“This mentality will not only affect under-19 cricket but also under-13 cricket and their families due to the money involved. People all over the world are saying that T20 cricket has destroyed Test cricket but our chairman is trying to organize Junior PSL,” he added.

Ever since Imran Khan's government fell in Pakistan, there have been rumours about Raja stepping down from his post as the PCB chairman as he is a close aide of Khan. However, Raja has continued in his role and is trying hard to revive the domestic structure in Pakistan cricket.

However, his idea of Junior PSL has received widespread criticism. Former Pakistan cricketer Salman Butt too had opposed the idea and said such a tournament will not help the youngsters in getting the right induction and will also affect their fitness levels in the long run.

'He will destroy Pakistan cricket': Former Pak pacer lashes out at PCB chief Ramiz Raja over junior PSL

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja had recently shared his views on revamping the Pakistan Super League (PSL) by introducing an auction system like the Indian Premier League (IPL) to ensure it can be put in the same bracket as the Indian league.

Raja had also claimed that no player would prefer IPL over PSL once the auction-based model is adopted in Pakistan's domestic T20 tournament. The PCB chief had faced ire from Indian fans on social media after his "we'll see who goes to play the IPL over the PSL" comment.

IPL which got underway in 2008 is currently the best T20 league in the world in terms of both quality of cricket and the finances involved. The cash-rich league is into its 15th edition and has been witnessing immense growth with each passing season. Several former Pakistan cricketers have often tried to pit PSL up against IPL and made comparisons between the two tournaments.

In order to make PSL compete against IPL, PCB chief Raja plans to bring in changes in the rules of the competition. Speaking about the same in an interview last month, Raja had said - "This is a game of money. When the cricket economy grows in Pakistan, our respect will rise. The main driver of that financial economy is the PSL. If we take the PSL to auction model, increase the purse, then I’ll put it in the IPL bracket. And then we’ll see who goes to play the IPL over the PSL."

He has now clarified his remarks after facing backlash over the same and has said he is aware India's economy is in a far better position than Pakistan at present. In an interview with Cricbuzz, Raja said he has plans to improve PSL but was misquoted on the other part.

"I was misquoted. I know where economy of India is and where is Pakistan's. We have plans to improve the PSL. We will bring in the auction model but I was misquoted on the other part," said the PCB chief.

Raja is also set to formally present the proposal of a four-nation T20I series involving India, Pakistan, Australia and England. Raja had first shared the idea of the four-nation series after the T20 World Cup 2021 last year and believes India and Pakistan should play at the international level more often.

"I don't know how the ICC members will receive it but how long can we allow ourselves to be dictated by politics between countries," Raja told Cricbuzz. "Star Sports had made a presentation at the last ICC board meeting where it said the India-Pakistan game at the Twenty20 World Cup broke all viewership records. Why don't we have more of what the fans want," said Raja.

India and Pakistan have not played against each other in a bilateral series since 2013 due to the political tensions between the two nations. The two countries have continued to meet only in major ICC competitions since 2013.

And then we’ll see who goes to play the IPL over the PSL." He has now clarified his remarks after facing backlash over the same and has said he is aware India's economy is in a far better position than Pakistan at present. Also Read: 'We'll see who goes to play IPL': PCB chief Ramiz Raja makes bold claim as hints at changes in PSL Raja is also set to formally present the proposal of a four-nation T20I series involving India, Pakistan, Australia and England. 'I know where India's economy is': Ramiz Raja defends his 'we'll see who goes to play IPL over PSL' remark

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to enter its 15th season as ten teams gear up to make the 2022 edition of the tournament a memorable affair. Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans are the two new franchises that will be making their debut in the IPL this year.

Ever since IPL's inception in 2008, the T20 league has witnessed remarkable growth in terms of quality of cricket, finances and popularity. IPL has become one of the most followed cricketing tournaments in the world and it remains a dream for players across the globe to ply their trade in the cash-rich league.

After IPL's inception, a number of other T20 leagues have also mushroomed around the globe with the likes of Big Bash League (Australia), Caribbean Premier League (West Indies) and Pakistan Super League (Pakistan) also trying to compete with the Indian t20 league. However, IPL has remained ahead due to the sheer quality of cricket at display and the finances involved.

Nonetheless, the likes of Pakistan Super League (PSL) and Big Bash have often been compared with the IPL. Several former Pakistani cricketers have over the years tried to draw comparisons between IPL and PSL. Recently, former Pakistan cricketer Aaqib Javed had made a tall claim suggesting that PSL was the most interesting league as IPL is played on flat tracks and the quality of bowling in IPL is poor.

Earlier this week, a Pakistani journalist made similar comparisons on Twitter. The journalist claimed that there was no comparison between PSL and IPL as the Pakistani T20 league has gained more popularity in lesser time despite more competition in the current era.

The Pakistani journalist was trolled by the Indian fans, who countered his claims and suggested he not be delusional. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star and veteran Indian batter Robin Uthappa also came up with a fitting reply for the Pakistani journalist to shut him down.

"No comparison between PSL and IPL! PSL started in 2016 while IPL inaugurated in 2008. However one has to admit PSL gained worldwide popularity more quicker in an era when other boards had introduced their leagues too whereas there was no competitor in the market when IPL was born," Pakistani journalist Arfa Feroz Zake wrote on Twitter.

"IPL created the market," responded Uthappa to shut him down.

CSK star Robin Uthappa shuts down Pakistani journalist over tweet comparing IPL with PSL

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is regarded as the best T20 cricket league in the world. Ever since the inception of the tournament in 2008, IPL has managed to maintain its quality and continues to attract the best players from around the world to ply their trade in the tournament. The cash-rich league is also one of the riches cricketing tournaments in the world in terms of revenue.

While a number of countries have established their own domestic T20 leagues like the Big Bash League (Australia), Caribbean Premier League (West Indies) and Pakistan Super League (Pakistan), IPL remains the best competition in the world due its sheer quality.

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) has often earned comparisons with the IPL due to the quality of cricket at display in the league but has failed to attract the best players from across the globe over the years. Nonetheless, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja wants to bring in some big changes in the league in order to help it compete with the IPL.

Raja recently hinted at scrapping the existing player draft system in the PSL to move to the auction model like the IPL. IPL doesn't have a draft system and the players are picked at the auction after bidding wars between the teams. Raja wants to increase the purse of the PSL franchises and move to the auction model which he believes will boost the revenue system of the league and attract players as their fees will go up significantly.

The market forces are conducive, but we'll sit down with the franchise owners to discuss it," Raja was quoted as saying by EspnCricinfo.

Raja said if the PSL adopts the auction model, he would like to put the Pakistani league in the same bracket as the IPL. The PCB chief also went on to make a bold claim that he would then see which players would head to the IPL over the PSL.

'We'll see who goes to play IPL': PCB chief Ramiz Raja makes bold claim as hints at changes in PSL

Indian Premier League (IPL) is the biggest T20 cricket league in the world at present. Since its inception in 2008, IPL has witnessed tremendous growth with each passing year and has become one of the most-followed sporting events across the globe. Cricketers around the world dream of playing in the IPL, which has over the years produced a number of superstars for several national teams.

IPL has the best of players from all major cricketing nations plying their trade in the tournament. The Indian T20 league has often been compared with the likes of the Big Bash League (BBL) in Australia and the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in Pakistan, however, IPL remains above them all with the sheer amount of talent on display and the huge finances involved.

IPL also remains the only T20 franchise league to feature Indian players which makes it stand out from other T20 leagues around the world. Recently, Australian cricketer Usman Khawaja was asked about the comparisons between IPL and PSL. The Aussie batter said there was no competition between the two leagues as IPL is the best hands down.

"IPL is the strongest in the world. That's hands down. That's not really a contest there (between IPL and PSL) because at the end of the day they have all the world come to them and they also have the only league in the world that has Indian cricketers. So, it ends up becoming the best league in the world," said Khawaja while interacting to media in Pakistan ahead of Australia's first Test against the hosts in Rawalpindi.

For the unversed, Kohli has never played any competitive cricket at the senior level on Pakistan soil. In fact, he has only been part of a couple of bilateral series between the two Asian giants since his debut; due to the political tension between both countries.

Notably, Kohli is struggling to cross the triple-figure mark at the international level since late 2019. His last three-figure knock came against Bangladesh in India's maiden day-night Test in November 2019. Since then, he has done well in parts -- especially in white-ball formats -- but a big score has evaded him.

Kohli was last seen in action during the just-concluded India-West Indies T20Is at home. He will skip the forthcoming India-Sri Lanka home T20Is and return for the two Tests, starting on March 04.

Someone spreading love: Shoaib Akhtar lauds PSL fan for hoping for Virat Kohli's hundred in Pakistan

Virat Kohli hasn't scored an international ton since late 2019. The 33-year-old's last triple-figure knock came during India's maiden day-night Test versus Bangladesh and since then, he hasn't managed to score a hundred across formats.

While Kohli has fifty-plus scores in white-ball formats, he hasn't done anything extra ordinary in the ongoing limited-overs home series versus Kieron Pollard-led West Indies. On the other hand, he averaged 28.21 in Tests in 2021. Thus, the Indian cricket fans are desperate to see King Kohli return to his usual best and score a ton. However, it looks like not only the Indian fans, Kohli's followers in Pakistan also want to see a hundred from his willow.

'Want to see your century in Pakistan': Fan's message for Virat Kohli goes viral during PSL 2022

Australian cricketer James Faulkner left the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2022 on Saturday (February 18) and returned home due to non-payment by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Faulkner took to Twitter to reveal PCB and his franchise Quetta Gladiators have been continuously lying to him and have not 'honoured' his contractual agreement and payments.

Faulkner termed PCB's treatment of him as a 'disgrace' as he apologised to Pakistani fans for leaving the tournament midway. Responding to his accusations, PCB has termed Faulkner's allegations as 'baseless' and have also banned the Australian from taking part in the PSL for life.

As PCB faces criticism from all corners after Faulkner's allegations against the cricket board, former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has come out to defend the organisation. Afridi slammed Faulkner for levelling 'baseless' allegations against the board and claimed the payments of the players have never been delayed in the competition.

"Disappointed with @JamesFaulkner44 comments who reciprocated Pakistan's hospitality&arrangements by levelling baseless allegations. We al have been treated with respect &never ever our payments have been delayed. T20s remain the flavour of the cricketing season as a lot of action in the shortest format is taking place across the globe. Among franchise cricket, Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2022 edition is gaining a lot of eyeballs.

The Babar Azam-led Karachi Kings are enduring one of their worst-ever seasons in the ongoing edition. At present, they have lost their first eight matches and are lying at the bottom in the points table. During Babar & Co.'s previous clash, versus the Multan Sultans, an animated discussion between Captain Babar and head coach Wasim Akram made the headlines during the last over of the match with the Sultans needing 7 off the five balls. The video of the same also went viral in no time.

After the video has made a lot of noise on social media platform Twitter, the former Pakistani pacer Wasim Akram reacted to the hullabaloo. Here's what he wrote:

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is the biggest T20 cricket competition in the world and has players from across the globe ply their trade for the franchises in the competition. Besides being one of the most successful franchise cricket leagues in the world, it is also one of the richest tournaments in the sport.

The IPL has over the years witnessed tremendous growth in terms of quality and viewership as it remains a dream for cricketers around the globe to take part in the cash-rich league. Since its inception in 2008, IPL has played a massive role in the rise of several young cricketers who have gone on to become world-beaters for their respective countries and have become superstars in world cricket.

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) - the domestic T20 competition of Pakistan has often been compared with the IPL despite there being a vast difference in the quality of the two leagues. Over the years, several former Pakistan cricketers have tried to draw comparisons between the IPL and PSL and the latest to join the bandwagon is former Pakistan fast bowler Aaqib Javed.

Javed believes PSL is a better league compared to the IPL and is the most interesting league in the world due to the nature of pitches in Pakistan. Compared to PSL, Javed said IPL has only flat pitches and the quality of bowling is low.

"This [PSL] is the most interesting league in the world, if there are no interruptions due to Covid-19 or anything else, because of the nature of the pitches. For instance, Lahore's pitch has some support for the bowlers, whereas you see higher scores in Karachi," Javed was quoted as saying by samaa.tv by PTV Sports.

"On the other hand if you look at IPL, there is only one type of cricket being played there due to extremely flat surfaces and low-quality bowling," added the former Pakistan pacer.

The comments didn't go down well with cricket fans on Twitter, who lashed out at Javed for his 'low-quality bowling' remark on the IPL and schooled him. Check out some of the tweets -
