Arsenal face Fulham

Mikel Arteta’s side will have fresh memories of their stunning PL win against Bournemouth last weekend as Reiss Nelson scored in the 97th minute to take all three points. However, they face Fulham who are enjoying a great revival in the PL after returning to the top division. West London outfit beat Chelsea in January and will look to add a spanner in the work for the Gunners. Marco Silva’s side also occupies a European spot and have already weaved away relegation fears.

Man City travel to Crystal Palace

Manchester City will have big days to come in their season and this week could prove decisive with bearings on PL and the Champions League. Pep Guardiola’s side will travel to Palace before they face RB Leipzig in the Champions League in midweek. Currently, only five points separate the Gunners and Man City and a win for Arsenal and a defeat for City could hand a real initiative for the North London side.

Jurgen Klopp’s side will also be in Champions League action on the weekend as they try to overturn a three-goal deposit. However, Liverpool’s eyes will be on the Champions League football for next season as they try to push for top four place. Their 7-0 thrashing of Manchester United last week saw them gain vital ground on the goal difference and could feature in the top four before Spurs host Nottingham Forrest later in the day.

The weekend will also see Manchester United face Southampton as they try to put the disappointing result behind them, having lost 0-7 to Liverpool.
Manchester United’s potential takeover could take yet another turn as Qatar-based buyers are likely to walk away from their bid if the price is not right. The most successful club in the English football league history, United have been put on sale by the Glazers family as the US-based owners want to cash in their investment. A potential bid of £6 billion is expected by the owners with Sir Jim Ratcliffe also in running for the takeover.

Qatar-based owners likely to walk away

It is reported that the Red Devils' pursuit is likely to attract a big chunk of cash for the owners and will only sell the club if the right price is met. On the flip side, Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, the potential buyer of Manchester United will only sign the check if the asking price is right and there is no inflated price tag.

As things stand, the current valuation of the club lies between £3-3.5 billion, which is less than that of the current owner’s valuation. It is reported that Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim have ‘ignored demands’ from the Raine Group who wanted to ‘keep certain details of the process closely contained’.

As things stand, the current offers on the table lie between £4.5-5 billion and has thus pushed the Glazers back in the sale. They are willing to wait until the summer to get the maximum possible price for the League Cup winners who have been struggling on the field recently. The League Cup success in February was their first piece of silverware in six years, while it will be 10 years since they last won the Premier League (PL) title.

But there could even more lasting damage from a record-equalling defeat for the club in a competitive game and heaviest since 1931.

Salah got the goal his performance deserved as he crashed in Nunez's through ball off the underside of the bar.

Everybody saw what the boys can be," said Klopp. "The second half couldn't start better. From that moment on we were flying and it was really difficult to play against us." Just a second defeat in 23 games in all competitions realistically ends United's hopes of a first league title in a decade as they remain 14 points adrift of leaders Arsenal in third. Also Read: Arsenal stays on top after securing clinical win over Bournemouth, City close in gap for title race But there could even more lasting damage from a record-equalling defeat for the club in a competitive game and heaviest since 1931. "The result is quite obvious. It is unprofessional," said United manager Erik ten Hag. "There are many things which make me angry. To concede so easy the goals is definitely one." Liverpool close to within three points of fourth-placed Tottenham with a game in hand on Spurs. Klopp's side won the two league meetings between the teams by an aggregate score of 9-0 last season, but the tables had seemingly turned this season. A 2-1 win over the Reds in August gave Erik ten Hag his first win as United boss and his team started the day 10 points clear of Liverpool. Liverpool have looked a shadow of the side that came close to an unprecedented quadruple of trophies last season. But either side of a 5-2 humiliation on home soil by Real Madrid, they have got back in the race for a place in the Champions League next season thanks to a run of 13 points from a possible 15 in the Premier League. "Everybody has to feel us. Everybody has to know we are still around," added Klopp. "That’s what we have to be from now on" United crumble Ten Hag told his players to embrace the hostile environment of Anfield, where United have not won since 2016. But they crumbled after Gakpo opened the floodgates two minutes before half-time. Andy Robertson sliced open the United defence to play in the Dutch international, who cut inside and fired low into the far corner. Ten Hag's men were then blown away in the second period as Liverpool's new-look front three finally clicked. Nunez punished sloppy United defending as the Uruguayan stooped to head in Harvey Elliott's cross. Moments later, Gakpo scored his second with a delightful dink over David de Gea at the end of a lightning Liverpool counter-attack. It could have been even worse for United as Robertson and Ibrahima Konate saw efforts fly inches wide. Salah got the goal his performance deserved as he crashed in Nunez's through ball off the underside of the bar. Nunez then headed in his second as he was left completely unmarked from Jordan Henderson's cross. Salah became Liverpool's outright all-time Premier League goalscorer with 129 with a simple tap in after more shambolic United defending. "It's very special, I can't lie," said Salah. "This record was in my mind since I came here. After my first season I was always chasing the record." Roberto Firmino will move on at the end of the season it was revealed this week. But the Brazilian came off the bench to have the final say as he slotted a remarkable seventh two minutes from time.
Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus is set to make his return soon after recovering from knee surgery but the Brazilian will have to fight for his place, manager Mikel Arteta said on Friday.
Dust is yet to settle on Manchester United's Carabao Cup success as they will make their way across the town to take on arch-rivals Liverpool in a topsy-turvy contest on Sunday, February 5. Jurgen Klopp's men will be determined to put a spanner in the work for United as they try to put in a Premier League (PL) title challenge. A win for the Red Devils will be of huge ramifications in the title race, but considering Liverpool's position in the PL, the Reds will also eye three points at Anfield.

As things stand, United will make the short journey across the river Mersey in search of three vital points while they look to replicate their cup form in the league. United will start the weekend in third place with 49 points and are 11 points adrift of Arsenal, but will know that the Gunners will drop points at some stage in the season.

PL: Can Liverpool put spanner in the work for Manchester United as season reaches decisive stage?

The Premier League will have a big weekend on offer as the credentials of the teams chasing top four spots will be tested as Liverpool host Manchester United while Spurs will be playing against Wolves away.

However, the weekend will start with Newcastle United paying a visit to the Etihad Stadium as they take on title-challenging Manchester City. Spurs, who is currently sitting in the pole position will look to make sure they consolidate as both their nearest opponents face a tough challenge.

Liverpool face stern United challenge

While Jurgen Klopp and his men will look for a win against Manchester United, the Reds will have to be optimistic about their chances as Erik Ten Hag and his side are in a rich vein of form. Manchester United have lost only one match in the PL in 2023 - a defeat to Arsenal, and will now look to put a spanner in the work for their arch-rivals.

However, if both Spurs and Newcastle fail to win their away games, the United game will come in as a bonus considering the ramifications on the top four battle. Interestingly, Liverpool have never finished outside the top four in a full Jurgen Klopp season and will look to continue the trend this season as well.

Spurs face Wolves

On the other hand, Spurs will look to make it three wins in a row in the PL when they take on Wolves on Saturday and will have the opportunity to open a seven-point gap over Newcastle if the latter fails to win. Spurs faced a horrible FA Cup exit at the hands of second-tier Sheffield United on Wednesday evening and will look to bounce back before they host AC Milan in the Champions League. A failure for Spurs could see them hand over the initiatives to Newcastle and Liverpool as they have games in hand.

Premier League: Can Liverpool put spanner in the work for Man Utd as season reaches decisive stage?

Ruben Selles was named as the new manager of the Premier League strugglers Southampton on Friday, February 24. The 39-year-old will now manage the team until the end of the season. The Spanish football coach has been appointed as the manager of the club after replacing Nathan Jones, who was in charge for just three months. Currently, Southampton is at the bottom of the English top flight. They have secured only five wins in their 23 league games so far this season.

The club issued a brief statement, “Southampton Football Club can today confirm that Ruben Selles has been appointed as men's first team manager until the end of the 2022/23 season.”

Former Luton boss Jones endured a torrid time after taking over at St Mary's in November following the dismissal of Ralph Hasenhuettl. Selles was a first-team coach at the club and took charge as interim manager as Southampton beat Chelsea last weekend. This match result left the club three points away from safety. He is now preparing the team to face second-bottom Leeds at Elland Road on Saturday.

Selles's appointment comes after Southampton failed to agree on a deal with former Leeds boss Jesse Marsch, who was sacked from his job earlier this month. Last week's 1-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge gave the Saints their first league win since a 2-1 triumph against Everton on January 14.

Who is Ruben Selles? Here are 10 points about his coaching career

1. Ruben is a Spanish football coach who is now appointed as the interim manager of Premier League club Southampton.

2. He has coaching experience with teams like Greece, Russia, Denmark, Spain, Azerbaijan and England.

3. He has a Master’s degree in Sports & Physiology from the University of Valencia. He graduated from UEFA’s Pro Licence programme at the age of 25.

4. He began his coaching career as a fitness coach at the Greek club Aris Thessaloniki. He then performed the same role for the Villarreal youth team in 2009.

5. In 2010, he travelled to Russia and worked as assistant manager to Aleksander Pobegalov at Shinnik Yaroslavl.

The club issued a brief statement, “Southampton Football Club can today confirm that Ruben Selles has been appointed as men's first team manager until the end of the 2022/23 season.” Former Luton boss Jones endured a torrid time after taking over at St Mary's in November following the dismissal of Ralph Hasenhuettl. Here are 10 points about his coaching career 1. 6. Sellés then spent two years at the Norwegian club Strømsgodset Toppfotball, working as Chief Data Analyst. 7. In 2015, Sellés was appointed assistant to manager Gurban Gurbanov at Qarabağ. 8. In July 2018, Sellés joined Danish club Aarhus GF, assisting manager David Nielsen for two seasons, helping AGF to their first trophy win in over 20 years (Winners of the prestigious Atlantic Cup title in Portugal), before leaving to manage the Valencia U18 squad. 9.
Ministers have announced plans for an independent football regulator to oversee the financial sustainability of the men's game in England, with powers to prevent clubs from joining breakaway leagues. The regulator would license clubs, requiring them to demonstrate sound financial business models, run robust owners' and directors' tests and give fans a greater say in the running of clubs.

It would also have the power to block clubs from joining breakaway leagues, appearing to prevent a repeat of any attempt to form a Super League such as the one that proved so unpopular with supporters in 2021.

Premier League: Independent regulator to oversee club operations

After months of back-and-forth, Liverpool owner John Henry on Monday stated that he was not selling the Premier League club to anyone. The statement by Henry comes on the eve of Liverpool's high-octane clash against Real Madrid.

"Are we selling LFC? No," Henry was quoted as saying by the Boston Sports Journal.

"Are talking with investors about LFC? Yes. Will something happen there? I believe so, but it won't be a sale."

For months, the fans had been speculating that the club will be sold, which, in turn, will bring more funds for the transfer plans of manager Jurgen Klopp. Henry, however, suggested that he has 'merely formalised an ongoing process'.

"I know there has been a lot of conversation and quotes about Liverpool, but I keep to the facts: we merely formalised an ongoing process."

John W. Henry, one of the two founders of the Fenway Sports Group (FSG), is currently the principal owner of the group along with chairman Tom Werner, who is also the chairman of Liverpool.

FSG had earlier sold an 11 per cent stake in the club to RedBird Capital Partners last year amid reports that Henry wanted to ease some burden off his shoulders. FSG bought the Merseyside outfit for $358 million in 2010 when it was in a financial mess and since have transformed the club to run on a self-sustaining model.

However, a self-sustaining model means that Liverpool have to rely on a 'sell-to-buy' model to bring in new players. As the Premier League grows more competitive and rivals clubs continue to splurge millions of dollars in every transfer window, the Reds have been seemingly left behind.

A London resident has admitted to assaulting Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale last month at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Joseph Watts, of Dalston in Hackney, east London, appeared in front of the Uxbridge Magistrates' Court where he pleaded guilty of not only assaulting Ramsdale but also hurling projectiles on the pitch. 35-year-old Watts threw four coins on the pitch during the match.

The court, hearing the case also received a statement from Ramsdale's side. According to the statement, Ramsdale had to see a 'masseuse' as his back felt 'heavy', following the blow.

"I've never had someone enter the pitch and kick me, I don't think it's acceptable that I should be assaulted at work," he said.

The hot-headed Brazilian was not amused by Ramsdale's celebration and went straight toward him.

Soon, an altercation ensued between the duo as the stewards had to step in to separate the players. After the melee, Ramsdale went near his goalpost, past the byline to grab his water bottle.

It was during this moment that Watts hopped the hoarding and landed a disgraceful kick in the back of Ramsdale. Arsenal's former captain Granit Xhaka saw Watts and pointed toward him but inaction by the stewards allowed him to flee the spot.

Man admits assaulting Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale during London derby

Written off at times during an unusually erratic season, resurgent Manchester City delivered a resounding statement as they moved to the top of the Premier League with a 3-1 victory at title rivals Arsenal on Wednesday. As City's players celebrated in front of their travelling fans in one corner of the Emirates Stadium at the final whistle, Pep Guardiola's face was wreathed in smiles, and perhaps tinged with a little relief. Just a few minutes earlier, Guardiola had been punching the air in delight as second half goals from Jack Grealish and Erling Haaland lifted City back to the top of the table.

Kevin De Bruyne had given City the lead and even Bukayo Saka's controversial penalty equaliser wasn't enough to shake the champions' equilibrium once they rode Arsenal's first half storm on a rainy night in north London. Having trailed Arsenal by eight points just a month ago, City are now firmly in contention to retain the title. Arsenal might have a game in hand but it was City who finished a frenetic encounter with all the momentum in the title race. Guardiola has been waiting for this moment as he searched for concrete proof his City stars still had the hunger required to be crowned champions. While there has never been any doubt about the hyper-competitive Guardiola's desire to lift the Premier League trophy for the fifth time in six seasons, it has not always been so clear that his team held the same appetite for success.

Defeats at Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham, as well as a home loss to Brentford and a surprise League Cup exit at Southampton, had given the impression that all was not well in the City camp. Guardiola's curious tactics and his unexpected decision to allow Joao Cancelo to join Bayern Munich on loan in January further added to the sense of a team drifting at a time when Arsenal were revitalised under his former assistant Mikel Arteta. Even Erling Haaland's barrage of goals came with the caveat that the Norway striker's style of play might not be best suited to Guardiola's philosophy.

But as the critics sharpened their knives, Guardiola saw signs in training ahead of their seismic showdown at Arsenal that his squad were about to make their point to the doubters. "When we were second in the table, we were always there. But we had the feeling we needed a little more. This week the mood in training, the concentration, the focus were there," Guardiola said. Guardiola admitted his tactics against Arsenal -- which included starting midfielder Bernardo Silva at left-back -- had to be altered at half-time but it was an attitude change among his players that was just as important.

"In the first half Arsenal were better. We were soft. My plan wasn't good," Guardiola said. "It was not easy to play against them. But we were still in the game, we were focused, and in the end the quality of the players made the difference." Grealish confirmed City had been fully tuned into the task at hand. "We were saying today, honestly. You know you get those games where you speak amongst yourselves, and everyone just seems so concentrated on the game today," Grealish said. "If I'm being honest I thought Arsenal were the better team, but to win titles you've got to come to places like this and win even when you are not at your best." Even though they are sitting pretty at the top, Guardiola refused to label City as title favourites.

"We won against Arsenal at the Emirates. They have one game in hand so I consider they are still top of the league. There are still so many games to play, the Champions League is coming as well," he said. "If we had come here eight or nine points behind and lost it would have been almost over. But we had a chance to be close and we took it. "If you want the crown, fight for it. We still want it."

'It's a shame...': Mikel Arteta blasts Arsenal for shipping three goals against Manchester City

Iranian-American billionaire Jahm Najafi, chair of MSP Sports Capital, is set to launch a $3.75 billion takeover bid for Premier League soccer club Tottenham Hotspur, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters on Wednesday. However, Tottenham declined to comment when contacted by Reuters. Earlier, the Financial Times had reported that MSP Sports Capital is working with a consortium of investors to structure the bid, and that it is weeks away from formally approaching the club's owner Joe Lewis and chair Daniel Levy.

The report said that the Najafi and MSP-led offer would value Tottenham, who are fifth in the Premier League, at approximately $3 billion before adding about $750 million of debt on the club's books. It added that MSP and its partners will put forward 70% of the purchase price, while backers from the Gulf, mainly from Abu Dhabi, will contribute the rest 30%.

During the Round of 16 match between Spurs and AC Milan on Tuesday, the London-based club suffered a shock 0-1 defeat. Brahim Diaz provided a perfect start to Milan by scoring a goal in the seventh minute. While Milan did come close on scoring on a few occasions, they couldn’t make it 2-0. Spurs on the other hand, had their chances too but couldn’t capitalise on them. Spurs will now be hopeful of gaining a home advantage when Milan next visits them for a return leg.

Spurs lose to AC Milan in UCL’s Round of 16 During the Round of 16 match between Spurs and AC Milan on Tuesday, the London-based club suffered a shock 0-1 defeat.

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has made a big claim with regards to the Old Trafford club. The former full-back feels the Red Devils are not ready for the title race just yet. Talking about the Erik Ten Hag-led side, it went past Leeds 2-0 in their recent outing in the ongoing Premier League courtesy of strikes from in-form Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho. Speaking on the sidelines, Neville revealed why he feels the premier club is far away from winning the elite title.

Neville also felt that Man United won't be able to get the better of Leeds -- which they eventually did -- and said that manager Erik Ten Hag is prioritizing their upcoming UEFA Europa League clash against Barcelona. "Interestingly, I was watching the second half against Leeds, and I thought they weren't going to get the goal and get the win. I thought Erik ten Hag has had to prioritize the Barcelona game because he put Raphael Varane on the bench to save him for that game on Thursday and played Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw at centre-back,” Neville pointed out.

So, they have just got to hang in there and hope that Arsenal and Man City aren't quite right towards the end of the season, but I just think they aren't quite ready yet,” Neville pointed out.

Man United will certainly have a point to prove going forward. They are currently at the third spot in the EPL standings but haven't won the trust of many former players and experts with regard to winning the title this year.
Manchester City produced a defiant response to the Premier League's charge sheet as they comfortably beat Aston Villa 3-1 to close to within three points of leaders Arsenal on Sunday. Goals by Rodri, Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez put the result beyond doubt by halftime as City got back on track following last weekend's loss at Tottenham Hotspur. With the club facing more than 100 charges relating to alleged financial misconduct, the home fans were in belligerent mood at the Etihad Stadium with a series of ironic chants and voicing support for the club's owner Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al-Nahyan.

On the pitch, City's players showed they have not been distracted by the developments as they effectively wrapped up the points even before the halftime whistle. Pep Guardiola's side needed only four minutes to take the lead when Rodri headed in Riyad Mahrez's corner and they were cruising in the 39th minute when Erling Haaland was forced wide after racing on to a Kevin de Bruyne pass but showed great vision to set up Gundogan for a side-foot finish.

'It's unacceptable...': United manager Erik Ten Hag unimpressed after performance against Leeds

Qatari investors are planning to make a huge bid to buy Premier League club Manchester United, the Daily Mail newspaper reported on Tuesday, citing unnamed sources. The report described the investors as "a group of private, high-wealth individuals" from Qatar, which hosted the 2022 World Cup. Meanwhile, Manchester United declined to comment when contacted by Reuters.

Manchester United's New York-listed shares jumped nearly 16.5% in premarket trading. Bloomberg News reported last month that Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), which owns Paris St Germain, was considering either a total takeover or a stake in Manchester United or their rivals Liverpool. QSI is a state-backed body founded by the emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, but European soccer governing body UEFA has strict integrity rules regarding multi-club ownership.

No club participating in its competitions is allowed to "directly or indirectly hold or deal in the securities or shares of any other club".

In 2017, Bundesliga side RB Leipzig and Austrian side Salzburg were both cleared to play in the Champions League after UEFA said it was satisfied that energy drinks manufacturer Red Bull did not have a controlling influence in both clubs.
