Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice drop Princess Diana remix, an ode to the late British royal

If reports are anything to go by, rapper Nicki Minaj has bought an all-new estate in Hidden Hills, a guard-gated city in the San Fernando Valley, at a whopping price tag of $19.5 million. The spectacular mansion is reportedly spread across 12,000 square feet of land and has 8 bedrooms, a detached guesthouse, a cabana, a saltwater pool and a Baja shelf for sunbathing.

The big modern farmhouse, which was built new this year by a local developer, never had a chance to officially hit the market. It was sold to Nicki even "before it could be listed on the MLS", says the property realtor. This also, unfortunately, means that pictures and details of the house are virtually nonexistent.

The garage of the house has space for three cars. There are grassy lawns surrounding the property and significant landscaping has been done for privacy.

The main house has glass doors that open to various patios and terraces. The upstairs master suite has a private balcony overlooking the backyard.

The rapper is yet to confirm the news.

Rapper Nicki Minaj's 'Super Freaky Girl' was shifted out of the Grammy's rap categories and into the pop division on a preliminary ballot. It nearly resulted in an international incident, given the ensuing publicity and controversy as voting began this week. However, Minaj is, in fact, on the ballot in rap categories this year but not for 'Super Freaky Girl', reports Variety.

Grammy voters who've received their ballots have disclosed that Minaj is in contention in the best rap performance category for another song of hers, 'Do We Have a Problem?', which has a featured appearance from Lil Baby.

According to Variety, the Grammy's rap screening committee apparently considered this more of a true hip-song and 'Super Freaky Girl' more pop in nature, splitting the difference.

'Do We Have a Problem?' was a substantial hit, although not quite as mammoth as 'Super Freaky Girl', which went to No. 1 this summer on the Billboard Hot 100. Minaj has already been awarded for it: The 'Problem' video won the best hip-hop video trophy at the MTV Video Music Awards in August.

In fact, Minaj makes several more appearances on the rap part of the Grammy ballot, although several are for collaborative songs on which she was considered more of a featured artist and may not have been involved in making the Grammy submissions.

Variety adds that 'Blick Blick', a track she shares with Coi Leray, is on the ballot for best rap performance and best rap song. (It was also submitted and accepted in the music video category.)

Similarly, 'Love in the Way', a song she did with Bleu, is listed among the eligible songs for best rap song and best melodic rap performance. In both cases, Minaj is listed as a featured artist, not the primary name.

Altogether, Minaj appears eight times on the ballot - once in a pop category, twice in the music video, and five times in rap categories. However, the fact that she has other shots at being nominated and winning in the rap division does not alloy her and others' belief that 'Super Freaky Girl' remains her best shot at picking up something, and that its best shot might have been in the far less crowded rap category.

Nicki Minaj secures Grammy rap ballot, but not for 'Super Freaky Girl'

Nicki Minaj and Latto got into an online feud over Grammy category issues on Friday. The harsh exchange of words between them started when Minaj accused the Recording Academy of showing a bias toward Latto. Her reaction was triggered by the Academy's move of switching her song 'Super Freaky Girl's category from Rap to Pop.

As the Twitter war between the two went full-bore on Thursday night and Friday morning, Minaj called the newcomer "an entitled Karen," while Latto returned fire by saying that Minaj was "a 40-year-old bully" acting in a way unbecoming of her age and stature.

Latto even referred to Minaj as "my idol-turned-rival" as the conversation went nuclear. "Super freaky grandma is married AND related to f***ing rapists. You ain't gone bully me B***H! My idol turned rival now u hating!"

Minaj has since deleted her tweets aimed at Latto, while, as of this story being published, Latto's part of the war of words remains up on the platform.

Before things really got heated, Latto addressed Minaj's request for her support in protesting the Grammy screening committee's decision to switch 'Super Freaky Girl' from a rap to pop category. The 'Big Energy' artist tweeted, "I've ignored countless subtweets since March and instead addressed u in the dm. You're asking why I didn't speak up in ur defense it's the same answer I gave u when u asked why I didn't congratulate you. Ur literally older than my mom tryna be a bully."

Minaj then wrote, "This Karen has probably mentioned my name in over 100 interviews. Says she waited in line for Pink Friday w/ her Barbie chain on, bangs, pink hair but today, scratch off decides to be silent; rather than speak up for the Black woman she called her biggest inspiration."

This part of the interchange occurred before the gloves really came off.

Race eventually seemed to figure into it, with Minaj tweeting about Latto (who is of mixed heritage): "Now she wiping that spray tan off & being a Karen. They black when it's beneficial chi."

Later, after Minaj tweeted (in a since-deleted post) that she would be releasing some private conversations, apparently to prove that Latto has undue help from collaborators or ghostwriters, Latto responded: "I'll post em my got damn self. They'll all tell u I WRITE TOO! I heard a few of ur refs before they came out too boo. U forgot WE ALL collab w the same writers?? Difference is I don't deny it. The world seen me writing since 16 on national TV tho."

The bad blood spilled out into the open Thursday after the Hollywood Reporter first reported that Minaj's 'Super Freaky Girl' hit had been submitted for consideration in a rap category but shifted on the first ballot by a Grammy committee into the pop category instead.

Minaj unloaded on social media and in a 17-minute Instagram video, contending that the move would only be fair if Latto's 'Big Energy' was also shifted from rap to pop categories. "If you can't tell by now that there is a concerted effort to give newer artists things that they really don't deserve over people who have been deserving for many years, then you're not paying attention," Minaj said in the video.

"And by the way, this is not to say any song is bad or any female rapper is bad. But why is the goalpost only ever moved when it's Nicki? Well, I'll tell you why. They don't want the people that they have in the industry to go up against me."

Minaj's argument was that she would be a near-certain loser in the pop category with "white" and "older" voters, going up against Adele and Harry Styles, whereas Latto would have an easier path to victory in the rap category, something she said was being specifically engineered to tip their respective scales.

On Twitter, Minaj subsequently shared a screen-shot of a direct message she allegedly got from Latto about the Grammy issue, with the up-and-coming rapper (who is also expected to be a contender for the best new artist award) quoted as saying, "I agree w you however because of where we left off i (don't) think you need to bring my name/song up to prove ur point."

In response to that now-deleted tweet of Minaj's, Latto responded by accusing the other rapper of seeming "malicious" in her behaviour. "1st of all I texted u cause I didn't wanna do the internet sht w sum1 I looked up to," Latto tweeted. "Just like the 1st time I DMed u asking about ur ongoing subtweets. I wanted to speak up cuz like I said I do agree but the way u going about it seems malicious esp. after how we left off."

The two traded jabs about age and status, with Latto using the hashtag "#40yroldbully" and Minaj tweeting, "All this time I thought you was at least 35." (Minaj is 39 and Latto is 23.)

Minaj referring to Latto's "spray tan" and artists being "black when it's beneficial" came after she raised the issue of race earlier in her Instagram video. "Soon female rap will really not have any Black women," Minaj said in the IG speech, without making any specific references as to who she was talking about at that point.

Minaj also said that Latto's album was stiff. "You sold 20K, right? Mad you flopped. That's why u really mad," she wrote. The '777' album debuted at No. 15 on the Billboard 200 in April with a reported 21,000 album-equivalent units.

In screenshots captured of one of her since-deleted tweets, Minaj said that Latto has "frustration about me politely declining three feature requests. Scratch off is just an entitled Karen who blames others for her album flopping".

The veteran rapper took issue with Latto's charge that she is related to a "rapist".

"1. Didn't care about rape when she was begging for features. 2. Didn't care about Kodak's past. 3. Didn't care about the accusations made about Dr Luke who produced Big Energy. 4. News Flash, scratch off. I've never raped anyone. I've inspired millions. You're one of them BOZO," Minaj's post read.

Latto's charges about Minaj's husband are related to a plea deal in which Minaj's husband, Kenneth Petty, was convicted of first-degree attempted rape in New York and served four years in state prison in the 1994 case. Minaj's counter-attack about Dr Luke refers to the producer having been accused of rape by Kesha, with a defamation lawsuit by the producer against the artist that continues to wind through a New York appeals court.

Nicki Minaj, Latto feud online over Grammy category issues

Nicki Minaj is soon going to be the subject of study at the university level, and the rapper herself is keen to attend. Yes, you read that right. A new course titled 'Nicki Minaj: The Black Barbie Femmecee & Hip Hop Feminisms,' has been introduced in the University of California, Berkeley.

The 90-minute lecture will take place twice a week- Tuesday and Thursday when it begins next spring.
The singer has given her nod of approval and has even asked the class to save her a seat. She mentioned in a tweet that she would "love to stop by."

And the class's instructor, Peace and Love El Henson, is fully on board with Minaj sitting in on as many lectures as she'd like, tweeting, "We would be hella happy & honored for u to stop by!"

Henson states that the course will focus on Minaj's career within the greater context of hip-hop and feminism. "This class is interested in thinking critically about u and ur productions w/in the context of broader historical-social structures & hip hop feminisms," the instructor replied to Minaj on Twitter. "So having yo personal insights would be AMAZING!"

The full details of the course, in terms of its structure is yet to be finalised ahead of its spring 2023 sessions. More information and details will be shared in the next few months.

Minaj is not the first celebrity to have a course dedicated to her. Before her, courses on Taylor Swift, Rolling Stone, and Brittany Spanos have ran at Universities.
Probably your cousin's friend was taking one last marriage fling, picked up an STD, & is blaming vaccines. He needs an MD, stat. — Kurt Eichenwald (@kurteichenwald) September 13, 2021 × When a fan pointed out that Minaj had not made a public appearance in over a year, she pointed out that she has a young son at home and no support. I have an infant with no nannies during COVID. who mad? Not risking his health to be seen. One yaself. https://t.co/z1uo2OHO1b — Nicki Minaj (@NICKIMINAJ) September 13, 2021 × Minaj though later stated that she would eventually have to get vaccinated in order to go on tour. Hours later Minaj reshared a few tweets where she was called out and denied suggesting that vaccine led to her friend's impotence. Meanwhile, CNN brought Dr Anthony Fauci as a guest on one of its shows and asked him if there is any truth to Minaj's claims about vaccinated people possibly suffering from reproductive issues. "The answer to that, Jake, is a resounding no," responded the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. "There's no evidence that it happens nor is there any mechanistic reason to imagine that it would happen."

Nicki Minaj draws flak for suggesting COVID-19 vaccine leads to impotency

It was a double date as Caribbean queens Rihanna and Nicki Minaj reunited with their respective partners recently.

Rihanna and Minaj had first worked together in the former's hit track 'Raining Men' and since then have been known to be good friends. The two musicians got together along with Minaj's husband, Kenneth Petty, and the couple's son, plus Rihanna's boyfriend, rapper A$AP Rocky.

Minaj took to Instagram to post a photo of the group where the two couples can be seen seated side-by-side on a couch with Minaj's son sitting on her lap in the middle. A$AP Rocky has his arms wrapped around his girlfriend Rihanna who is leaned towards him.

"#RokNRiha #QueenRih #CaribbeanGirlsRunit Love her downnnnnnn #NewYorkS--- #YKTFV," Minaj captioned the post.

American rapper Nicki Minaj and her husband, Kenneth Petty, are facing a lawsuit by a woman who accused Petty of rape back in 1994 in New York, global news reports claim.

On Friday, the woman, identified as Jennifer Hough, filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court in Eastern New York and alleged that Petty 'intimidated' and 'harassed... not to speak out concerning the rape she experienced at the hands of Defendant Petty'.

The woman also accused Minaj also 'threatened' to recant her legitimate claim that 'Defendant Petty raped her'.

In the court documents, Hough has reportedly accused the couple of 'witness intimidation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligent infliction of emotional distress, harassment, assault, battery, sexual assault, and sexual harassment'.

The lawsuit, obtained by a global news organisation, shows a detailed report on how back in September of 1994, when Hough and Petty were both 16 and living in Jamaica, Queens (New York), she ran into him on her way to school when he later held her at knifepoint, led her into a nearby house and raped her.

Petty was arrested that day for first-degree rape and later pleaded guilty to attempted rape, says the same report. He was sentenced to 18 to 54 months in prison.

On February 25 last year, Petty was charged for failing to register as a sex offender, which is a requirement under the 2006 Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA).

He was later added to the California Megan’s Law database, which tracks sex offenders in the state of California, where Petty and Minaj reside with their son, whom the rapper gave birth to last year.

The Los Angeles District Attorney’s office announced in March 2020 that the charges were dropped against Petty, but if he were to be convicted of the same felony charge, he would face up to 10 years in prison, which is the statutory maximum.

The New York State department has labelled Petty as a level-two sex offender, meaning it deems him as a moderate risk to reoffend, based on the 1994 attempted rape conviction.

Hough recounts the years in her lawsuit following the alleged rape, claiming she felt “mentally and emotionally destroyed” and moved around a lot out of fear of returning to New York. In 2018, a sudden surge in interest over her identity was generated following Minaj’s viral comments about the case.

In a 2018 Instagram post, Minaj shot back at those who continued to criticize Petty’s allegedly criminal past. “He was 15, she was 16… in a relationship. But go awf Internet.”

In a 2019 episode of Minaj’s Queen Radio show on Apple Music, she told her fans, “You’ve gotta cover your husband in prayer” before saying that he was wrongfully accused of rape by Hough, whom she said wrote a letter recanting her statement, which Hough denies.

“But white is right,” Minaj said later on in the episode. But the court filing states that Hough is biracial.

In 2020, shortly after Petty was arrested for failing to register as a sex offender, the suit alleges that Hough’s brother told her over the phone that “two people reached out to a family member stating an offer of $500,000.00 from Defendant Minaj if Plaintiff wrote a letter recanting her rape claim against Defendant Petty.”

Hough’s childhood friend, who acted as a liasion between the married couple and Hough, also presented another $20,000 from Minaj, who proposed to “send birthday videos to Plaintiff’s Daughter for her sweet 16 as a bonus” if she would sign an already prepared recanted statement.

“Plaintiff has not worked since May of 2020 due to severe depression, paranoia, constant moving, harassment, and threats from the Defendants and their associates. She is currently living in isolation out of fear of retaliation,” the lawsuit reportedly states.

Hollywood star Michael B Jordan has responded after being called out for cultural appropriation over the name of his rum brand.

Rapper Nick Minaj and other social media users objected to Jordan's new rum brand name- J'Ouvert, as the name appropriated Caribbean culture.

Jordan apologised on Wednesday and announced that he will be changing the name of his rum brand soon.

He wrote, "I just wanna say on behalf of myself and my partners, our intention was never to offend or hurt a culture (we love and respect) and hoped to celebrate and shine a positive light on. Last few days has been a lot of listening. A lot of learning and engaging in countless community conversations."

The 34-year-old actor went on to say that the brand will be renamed.

"We hear you. I hear you and want to be clear that we are in the process of renaming. We sincerely apologize and look forward to introducing a brand we can all be proud of," he further wrote.

Scrutiny of the brand began after Michael`s girlfriend, Lori Harvey, posted images from an apparent launch party for J`Ouvert rum over the weekend and congratulated him on the new business venture.

J`Ouvert is a festival highlighting Caribbean culture and held annually in Trinidad, Tobago and Grenada during Carnival, along with being observed worldwide.

Among the social media users voicing their issues with the name was Nicki, who is Trinidadian. On Tuesday, she reposted a message about the event`s cultural significance and urged the actor to rename his rum brand. "I`m sure MBJ didn`t intentionally do anything he thought Caribbean ppl would find offensive," the rapper wrote.

She added, "But now that you are aware, change the name & continue to flourish and prosper. "The liquor brand`s trademark for the name J`Ouvert, which was filed last September under a third party, has also sparked controversy.

A Change.org petition, which has amassed more than 10,000 signatures, criticised the trademark filing, which read in part, "The wording `J`OUVERT` has no meaning in a foreign language."

"We are not a powerless people! We are a people rich in culture, history and love," a statement read on the petition. The petition also asked Michael "to do the right thing by calling this a loss."

Following the backlash, the Trinidad and Tobago Minister of Trade and Industry Paula Gopee-Scoon told Newsday the ordeal was "of extreme concern."

"The first thing is to gather the information to see if it is in fact so," Paula said."Then working together with the intellectual property office of the Ministry of the Attorney General, we`ll do the necessary investigation and, as always, seek to support anything that is Trinidad but at the same time protect what is ours," Paula added.

Nicki Minaj breaks silence on father’s ‘devastating’ hit and run death

Nicki Minaj's mother has filed a $150 million lawsuit against the man charged for his involvement in the hit-and-run death of the rapper's father.

According to Billboard, Minaj’s mother, Carol Maraj, had attorneys file the lawsuit in the Supreme Court of the State of New York, read a statement released by Ben Crump Law.

“He was fatally injured in a hit-and-run accident on February 12, 2021, when he was struck by a car being driven by Charles Polevich as Mr. Maraj walked along a Long Island road. After striking Maraj, Polevich left the accident scene and did not call for emergency services or render aid to Maraj,” Crump wrote on his verified social media accounts.

“He was not only irresponsible and negligent but more concerned about running away and hiding than seeking help,” Crump’s post continued. “Polevich’s behavior was criminal, cowardly, and immoral. We will hold him responsible for his reckless actions that led to Robert Maraj’s death!”

Polevich’s attorney, Marc C. Gann, sent the following statement to Billboard: “Mr. Polevich has expressed empathy and condolences to the Maraj family. While the civil suit is not unexpected, the criminal charges pending against Mr. Polevich have no bearing on the civil case. It has yet to be determined whether there was any negligence involved in the accident or the degrees of any negligence. I will add that the amount demanded is shocking to say the least and I don’t believe is in any way reasonable.”

Robert Maraj, Minaj’s dad, was struck by a car in Mineola, New York. He was then taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead on February 13. Police arrested Polevich, who faced charges of leaving the scene of an incident and tampering with physical evidence in connection with the death of Maraj.

“He was absolutely aware of what happened,” Nassau County Police Detective Lt. Stephen Fitzpatrick said at a news conference last month, according to the Associated Press. “He got out of the car and he looked at the deceased, got into his car, and made the conscious decision to leave instead of dialing 911, instead of calling an ambulance for the man. He went home and secluded the vehicle. He’s well aware of what he did.”

Minaj, who has spoken in the past about having a strained relationship with her father, has not made any public statement about his death.
