"There were no signs of anything wrong," he said, adding that "he was friendly with the whole family, but especially to the kid, who he treated like a grandson."

Talking to the BBC, he stated that Czuba "brought him (Wadea al-Fayoume) gifts, he brought him some toys."

<h2>Overflowing grief</h2>

In Illinois, United States, hundreds of people came together to pay their last respects to six-year-old Wadea al-Fayoume, who on Sunday was attacked in his home.

The Monday funeral saw the Mosque Foundation in the Chicago suburb of Bridgeview overflow with people, with some paying their respects on the pavement outside.

Mourners, as per BBC, came from all over the area to express their anger and grief. Among them, some voiced their concerns about other Muslim children.

Talking to BBC, a mother of three said: "I'm shocked, but I'm not surprised."

She said that schools in the locality have taken extra precautions because of the ongoing war in Israel and Gaza.

<h2>The attack and the motive</h2>

As per the police, the little boy was attacked because he was Muslim.&nbsp;

In a court filing, Assistant State's Attorney Michael Fitzgerald alleged that Czuba, who was the landlord to the Muslim family, was angry at the little boy's mother "for what was going on in Jerusalem."

"She responded to him, 'Let's pray for peace,'" wrote the prosecutors.&nbsp;

"Czuba then attacked her with a knife," they added.

They claim that the landlord grew paranoid about the presence of the Palestinian-American family in his house.&nbsp;

The child was stabbed 26 times with a military-style knife, reports Al Jazeera. The mother too suffered a dozen stab wounds, but she is expected to survive the senseless crime.

'Mom, I'm fine': 6-year-old Muslim boy's heartbreaking last words before dying in hate crime

France international Jean-Clair Todibo on Monday (Oct 16) apologised for laughing during a minute's silence in memory of the victims of the Israel-Hamas conflict and a murdered French teacher before a Euro 2024 qualifier last week.

"I had a nervous laugh in relation to this minute of silence but in no case did I make fun of the current situation," the 23-year-old Nice defender told journalists.

Cameras caught Todibo laughing during the tribute, which took before France's 2-1 win over the Netherlands in Amsterdam last week, to the victims of the conflict between Hamas and Israel.

The minute's silence also remembered a teacher killed last week in the northern French city of Arras in what the government called an Islamist terror attack.

Todibo, who is in the France team for Tuesday's friendly match against Scotland in Lille, said he had never intended to offend.

"I wanted to express myself today in relation to the extent of the situation and the interpretation of the situation which is quite crazy," he said before France's press conference in Lille.

"The context was unusual, we were among rival fans who had made certain jokes and I had this nervous laugh that came out. I wanted to apologise to all the people who I could have offended, that's the least I can do. Let there be no mistake about that."

"I'm hurt because it taints the education that my mother gave me," he continued.&nbsp;

"Some said that I laughed during this minute of silence because I was making fun of the death of a teacher, you should know that my mother has worked in National Education for 20 years and I have enormous respect for these people.

"This could have happened to my mother. It bothers me because it reflects an image which is not mine.

"I think I'm a boy with a very good education and with respect for people."

Before Todibo's apology, the national ethics council of the French Football Federation had sent a letter to the player to ask him to explain himself, reserving the right to refer the matter to the FFF disciplinary committee.

The data found the carbon impact of the rich people's driving habits has damaged the climate more than those of the middle class. This is because the data showed a strong correlation between income and owning a large SUV.&nbsp;

According to the stats,&nbsp;households in the top 20 per cent of the income bracket are 81 per cent more likely to own a vehicle that emits more climate-damaging gases than the rest 80 per cent. Furthermore, the data showed that the top 20 per cent group drives three times as many miles a year as those in the bottom income bracket

The car ownership data in the Lonon borough of Kensington and Chelsea found that having an SUV, such as the Land Rover Defender, is associated with living in a richer area.

Study reveals latest SUV models emit more climate damaging gases than older ones

Delhi AQI: The overall air quality in the Indian national capital New Delhi is likely to improve to the "moderate" category as weather agencies have predicted light rain showers at some places.&nbsp;

The city's air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 233 on Sunday, slightly better than the previous day. The capital's air quality has been poor for the past four days. This season's worst air quality so far was recorded on Saturday (Oct 14) with the average AQI recorded at 257.&nbsp;

The India Meteorological Department officials said that air quality on Sunday improved because of the direction of wind that had changed from northwesterly to easterly, which also brought in some moisture and led to trace rainfall in a few parts of the country.

The CPCB categorises&nbsp;an AQI between 0-50 as "good," between&nbsp;51 and 100 as "satisfactory", between 101 and 200 as "moderate", between 201 and 300 as "poor", between 301 and 400 as "very poor", and over 400 as "severe."

CM Kejriwal's winter plan

Earlier, Delhi's Environment Minister Gopal Rai told ANI that the government is working towards improving the quality levels in Delhi. He said that officials are working as per the "winter action plan" announced by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal last month amid rising concerns over increasing air pollution.&nbsp;

He said, "CM Arvind Kejriwal announced his 15-point winter action plan on seeing the report of rising pollution every winter. Delhi government is working based on that plan. For the hot spots, 13 special teams have been formed. These teams are focusing on the action plan made for the hot spots. As far as stubble burning is concerned, bio decomposers are being used to decompose the stubble."

Chief Minister Kejriwal added&nbsp;that&nbsp;heavy fines will be imposed on those responsible for dust pollution.

Will County sheriff's office in a statement said that their officers responded to an emergency call by a 32-year-old woman alleging that her landlord had attacked her with a knife.

The man entered her house yelling, "You Muslims must die!" said the woman in a text to her husband. The texts, according to the Guardian, have been shared by CAIR International, the largest Muslim civil rights organisation in the US.&nbsp;

As per the woman, her landlord also tried to choke her, and when she ran to the bathroom to call 911, he stabbed her son.

"It all happened in seconds," said the woman in a text.&nbsp;

The child was stabbed 26 times with a military-style knife, reports Al Jazeera. The mother suffered a dozen stab wounds and is expected to survive the senseless crime.

<h2>The alleged murderer</h2>

Police have identified the suspect as 71-year-old Joseph M Czuba, who as per a statement did not "make any statements to detectives regarding his involvement in this heinous attack."

However, "despite the suspect not providing a statement to detectives, personnel were able to gather enough information through interviews and evidence to formally charge Joseph Czuba with numerous criminal offences."

He has been charged with murder, two counts of hate crimes, along with other offences.

Police transported the victims to the hospital, where the child was pronounced dead. The woman was hospitalised in serious condition.

In a statement, CAIR said: "We are shocked and disturbed to learn that a landlord in Chicago expressing anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian views broke into a Muslim family's apartment and attacked them with a knife, injuring the mother and killing her 6-year-old son, Wadea Al-Fayoume."

Now, people are required to carry their own reusable cups with them, and those who don't, have to cough up a €2 (around $2.11) deposit for a reusable cup from the coffee shop. This deposit is returned once the customer gives back the cup they "borrowed".

Yes. As per the Guardian, the result is pretty evident. Streets and forest trails rarely have the pesky disposable cups littering them.

Talking to the publication, Michael Gleeson, chair of 'Killarney Looking Good,' a group that promotes civic improvements, said: "This was a wonderful and necessary initiative. The amount of cups strewn around is considerably reduced."

As per Gleeson, these cups were a "plague on the town and countryside."

Killarney's success has become a source of inspiration for other Kerry towns, including Tralee and Dingle, which are also considering emulating similar experiments.

Gleeson expressed his hope that it will soon spread across Ireland and beyond, and said: "Our great challenge is to make our world more beautiful."

Similar initiatives have been undertaken by other towns across the globe. However, their numbers are low, because even the modest goal of eliminating single-use coffee cups isn't easy.

<h2>What is causing the population to decline?</h2>

As per Reuters, several factors contribute to this decline. This includes the high costs of childcare and education, increased unemployment, job insecurity, and gender discrimination.&nbsp;

These challenges, as per the record, have discouraged many young couples from having more than one child or even having children at all.

Previously, much of this demographic decline could be traced back to China's one-child policy, that was enforced in 1980. In 2015, it was abandoned and since then things have somewhat changed.

During her testimony, Ellison emphasised that Bankman-Fried did not adhere to principles like "don't lie" and "don't steal" and described himself as a "utilitarian" who believed that the most crucial rule was to achieve the greatest good for the greatest number of people.

<h2>Bankman-Fried's not guilty plea</h2>

Ellison, along with two other former members of Bankman-Fried's inner circle, have pleaded guilty to fraud charges. They've also agreed to cooperate with the Manhattan US attorney general's office, reports Reuters.

However, Bankman-Fried has entered a not-guilty plea to two counts of fraud and five counts of conspiracy. He also contends that while he made mistakes running FTX, he never intended to steal funds.

As per the broadcaster, such reports were "a bid to shift the blame," by what it labelled "the empire of evil".

KCNA said that in addition to the more than a year-long Ukraine-Russia crisis, the Israel-Hamas conflict has emerged as another "huge strategic burden" for Washington. It also remarked that the crises showed the limitations of the US strategy for hegemony and the nation's goal of becoming the global superpower.

Earlier this week, the North Korean state media had blamed Israel for causing bloodshed in Gaza.

Furthermore, he emphasised that the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict would not affect the United States' security strategy in the world, including the Korean peninsula.

However, as per Reuters, the group did not provide links to videos showing their alleged use in Gaza.

Reuters reports that when asked for comments on the Human Rights Watch's accusations, the Israeli military said it was "currently not aware of the use of weapons containing white phosphorus in Gaza."

<h2>Heightened security</h2>

These posters were put up by a Khalistani group called Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) on Tuesday, reports Hindustan Times.

Indian EAM Jaishankar will now be guarded by the VIP security wing of the Central Reserve Security Force (CRPF), which guards around 176 people in the country. His protection detail will consist of 22 personnel, including 4-6 NSG commandos and police personnel.

The report further cites a Delhi Police officer, who, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said that police had also received inputs of threats to Jaishankar from separatist groups.

As per the report, the posters also announce that a 'referendum' over the carving out of a separate state of "Khalistan" out of India will be held outside the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara, Surrey, British Columbia.

The Gurudwara is where Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar was killed by unidentified men on June 18th.

<h2>Hamas-like attacks</h2>

This comes as Khalistani extremist leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun in a video threatened India of a Hamas-like attack.&nbsp;

Pannun, a designated terrorist under India's Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), can be heard saying: "People under illegal occupation from Punjab to Palestine will react. And violence begets violence."

<h2>Calls for 'referendum'</h2>

Quoting people in the know, the Indian media publication reports that the referendum will be held in Vancouver on October 29. Before that, on October 21, a protest is slated to be launched from Surrey to the Indian consulate in Vancouver.
