The state of Georgia in the United States&nbsp;has officially designated October as ‘Hindu Heritage Month’ to recognise and celebrate the contributions of the 'vibrant' Hindu-American community within the state.&nbsp;

As per news agency PTI, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp issued a proclamation declaring October as the month to celebrate 'Hindu heritage'. The proclamation said that the celebration will focus on Hindu heritage's culture and spiritual traditions rooted in India.

<h2>Significant contributions</h2>

The proclamation dated August 23 said: "The vibrant Hindu American community has contributed tremendously to the vitality of the State of Georgia by enriching the lives of its citizens."

Earlier this year, the state's Assembly had passed a resolution condemning Hinduphobia. The resolution made Georgia the first American state to take legislative action against anti-Hindu bigotry.&nbsp;

<h2>Hindu advocacy group welcomes decision</h2>

Hindu advocacy group, Coalition of Hindus of North America (CoHNA), welcomed Georgia's move and expressed gratitude to Governor Kemp for acknowledging and recognising the Hindu community's contributions to the many sectors.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, the group said: "This was made possible by the untiring dedication of our friends at the Hindus of Georgia PAC. Hinduism has contributed greatly to the cultural milieu of America."

However, the group as per PTI, the group also expressed concern over the recent anti-caste discrimination bill passed by the California State Assembly.&nbsp;

It highlighted the contradiction between Georgia's recognition and the passage of #SB403, which, as per the news agency report, seeks to combat caste discrimination and strengthen protections for marginalised communities across the state.

"It is gratifying to see Georgia recognise the contribution of Hindu-Americans and Hinduism at the same time that California is targeting us with #SB403," said CoHNA on X.

Hindu Heritage Month, according to the Hindu American Foundation, is celebrated globally to highlight Hinduism as a tradition and its contributions to human society. Hinduism is the third-largest religion globally with around one billion devotees, there are approximately three million Hindus residing in the United States.

This comes as the Rover discovered several chemical elements on the lunar surface.&nbsp;

While conducting the experiments, the Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) instrument onboard found sulphur.&nbsp;

"These in-situ measurements confirm the presence of Sulphur (S) in the region unambiguously, something that was not feasible by the instruments onboard the orbiters," it said.&nbsp;

Not only Sulphur (S), the LIBS also found the presence of aluminium&nbsp;(Al), calcium (Ca), iron (Fe), chromium (Cr), and titanium (Ti) on the lunar surface.&nbsp;The quest for Hydrogen is underway.&nbsp;

The lunar Rover is currently on a 14-day mission to study the moon. Until now, the mission has achieved two of its objectives: a demonstration of a safe and soft landing on the lunar surface and the rover roving on the moon. Conducting&nbsp;in-situ scientific experiments is underway. &nbsp;

<h2>What is Vikram Lander?&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;</h2>

Vikram is the lander of the Chandrayaan-3 softly landed on the south pole of the moon carrying the Pragyan rover. The lander has 4 payloads- RAMBHA to measure the near-surface plasma density, ChaSTE to measure the thermal properties of the soil, ILSA to measure the seismicity around the landing site and LRA to understand the dynamics of the lunar system.&nbsp;

Giving an update, the space agency said that all payloads are performing normally.

After 14 days, Vikram Lander and Pragyan could live&nbsp;longer&nbsp;if they survive the lunar night.

According to the latest data from the World Health Organization (WHO), only 32 per cent of people around the globe have received at least one booster or additional vaccine dose.

It also states that in some developing countries such as Gabon, Papua New Guinea, Burundi and Madagascar, this figure remains at less than one per cent.

The UN committee remarked that the rich nations' "persistent refusal" to waive intellectual property rights "raises concerns" about their obligations under the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.

AFP reports that the committee further emphasised that&nbsp;"COVID-19 remains a serious public health issue with devastating negative impacts", which has a disproportionate "devastating" impact on people of African or Asian descent, ethnic minorities, Roma communities, and Indigenous peoples.

<h2>Remedies the committee suggested</h2>

The committee suggests that these inequalities could be "significantly mitigated" by sharing access to intellectual property rights for life-saving vaccines, treatments, and technologies, which are "currently reserved by a few countries in the global North".

It further urged State parties to prioritise human rights concerns and to include robust human rights safeguards, including establishing a mechanism that makes it obligatory for governments to temporarily suspend intellectual property rights during health crises.

It called upon "States parties in the global North to provide resources to enable poorer States to satisfy the core medical capacities that they are now expected to have in place under the International Health Regulations and to enable vaccines, relevant medicines and other necessary equipment and supplies to be available to all."

Elon Musk's Tesla is reportedly under investigation over accusations of misuse of funds for a secret project, internally referred to as "Project 42," which was described as a 'glass house' for the billionaire CEO.

As per a Wall Street Journal (WSJ) report published on Wednesday (August 31st), the investigation is led by the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York. Markets regulator the Security Exchange Commission (SEC) is also a part of this investigation.

Manhattan federal prosecutors' investigation is reportedly focusing on personal benefits provided to Musk, the expenses incurred by Tesla for the project, and its purpose.

However, as per the report, the investigations are in their early stages and will not necessarily result in charges being made.

Details of Project 42 emerged last year when employees were working on a spacious glass building near Tesla's Austin-area headquarters.&nbsp;

In July, WSJ reported that plans for Project 42 included the construction of a unique glass structure in various designs, including a twisted hexagon and an expansive glass box that appeared to house a residential area for Musk.

Over the years, Elon Musk and Tesla have faced multiple legal issues with regulatory bodies. Most notably in 2018, when the two entities settled a lawsuit with the SEC over allegations of misleading investors about taking the automaker&nbsp;private.&nbsp;

More than 170 global leaders and Nobel laureates, including former US President Barack Obama and former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, have penned an open letter urging Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to suspend legal proceedings against Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus.&nbsp;

Yunus, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 for his work, pioneering microcredit to aid impoverished individuals, has allegedly faced "continuous judicial harassment" at the hands of Hasina's administration.

<h2>What the leaders said</h2>

In the letter dated Tuesday (August 29th), the leaders said: "One of the threats to human rights that concerns us in the present context is the case of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Prof. Muhammad Yunus. We are alarmed that he has recently been targeted by what we believe to be continuous judicial harassment."

They asserted their confidence that "any thorough review of the anti-corruption and labour law cases against him will result in his acquittal".

Global figures have also called for the upcoming elections in Bangladesh —&nbsp;expected in early January — to be credible. The opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party had earlier expressed concerns about potential election rigging and demanded that Hasina step down to allow a caretaker government to oversee the voting, a demand Hasina has rejected.

<h2>Bangladesh's government responds</h2>

Responding to the open letter, Bangladesh Prime Minister Hasina said that she would welcome international experts and lawyers to assess the legal proceedings and examine documents related to the charges against Yunus.&nbsp;

She suggested that this would reveal additional information related to the case.

"If they send the experts and lawyers, many more things will get revealed, which remain untouched. Many such things will come out."

<h2>Charges against the Nobel laureate</h2>

Yunus founded Grameen Bank in 1983, an institution that provides small loans to entrepreneurs who typically do not qualify for traditional bank loans.&nbsp;

The bank's success in alleviating poverty as per news agency AP served as a model for micro-financing initiatives globally.

As per AP, Hasina "became enraged" when in 2007, during a period of military-backed rule, Yunus announced plans to form a political party.&nbsp;

Hasina, who was in prison at the time, referred to Yunus as a "bloodsucker" and accused him of using force to recover loans.

Yunus faced multiple charges, including allegedly receiving money without government permission, violation of labour laws, and embezzlement of funds from Grameen Telecom, a company he created. Defence lawyers as per AP have described some of the cases as harassment and vowed to contest the allegations.

At the time of rebranding, Musk and&nbsp;Yaccarino&nbsp;announced that the platform will become an "everything app" that would allow users to socialise, make friends and also handle finances. The vision, as per news agency AFP, was inspired by China's WeChat.

Since then, the platform has already added a new hiring tool to its arsenal; verified businesses can now post jobs to their profiles.

Furthermore, X's payment branch Twitter Payments LLC has been granted a "crucial" currency transmitter licence from the US state of Rhode Island. This licence, as per cryptocurrency website CoinWire, allows X to "engage in cryptocurrency-related activities" including exchanges, wallets, and payment processing.&nbsp;

With this licence, X can "securely store, transfer, and facilitate the exchange of digital assets on behalf of its users," it added.&nbsp;

These changes come as&nbsp;the platform's advertising business plummets. Donald Trump's former lawyer Rudy Giuliani has been issued a default judgment and ordered to pay sanctions of nearly $133,000 in a defamation and civil conspiracy lawsuit brought by two Georgia election workers.&nbsp;

The workers, Ruby Freeman and Wandrea'&nbsp;ArShaye Moss, claimed that Giuliani had defamed them by alleging the mishandling of ballots in the 2020 presidential election.

<h2>Penalty for 'wilful misconduct'</h2>

US District Judge Beryl Howell imposed the 'default' judgment and monetary penalty after Giuliani repeatedly failed to comply with orders to turn over electronically stored documents and evidence sought by the two election workers' lawyers.

CNBC reports that Judge Howell criticised Giuliani for "wilful... misconduct" and "slippery" statements, failing to fulfil his obligations under the legal proceedings known as discovery.&nbsp;

In her 57-page opinion, the Judge said: "The bottom line is that Giuliani has refused to comply with his discovery obligations and thwarted plaintiffs Ruby Freeman and Wandrea' ArShaye Moss’s procedural rights to obtain any meaningful discovery in this case."

"For the reasons set out below, the pending motion [for sanctions] is granted. Default judgment will be entered against Giuliani as a discovery sanction."

The judge's ruling emphasised Giuliani's failure to comply with discovery requests and ordered him to personally pay the plaintiffs $89,172.50 as reimbursement for their attorneys' fees and costs associated with their motion to compel evidence. Additionally, two of Giuliani's companies were ordered to pay the plaintiffs $43,684 for the same conduct.

She has also ordered Giuliani and the plaintiffs' lawyers to propose three trial dates in the US District Court in Washington, DC, to determine the amount of compensatory and punitive damages he should pay due to the&nbsp;judgment.

Howell's ruling also referred to Giuliani's recent criminal indictment in Georgia related to alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election results.

<h2>False claims</h2>

Giuliani had previously made false claims about the handling of ballots by Freeman and Moss while representing former President Donald Trump.&nbsp;

Speaking in front of a select house committee last year, Freeman said: "I've lost my name and I've lost my reputation."

During her testimony, she also asked, "Do you know how it feels to have the president of the United States target you?"

As per the report, the reason behind these plummeting numbers&nbsp;includes economic concerns over the rising costs of living and unaffordable housing.

Respondents who were polled last year also said that one reason they are not getting married is because they do not have enough money for marriage. Some reported feeling that marriage is simply not necessary.

In South Korea, there is even a word for women who chose to forego marriage, and remain single: "bihon".

According to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the reason more women are deciding to stay single could be because of their advancement in education and the workplace. This means that compared to earlier generations, the "opportunity cost of marriage" is higher for today's women.

Given the persistent gender stereotypes, getting married or having children might require women to make concessions concerning their careers or education, reports the OECD. This is especially true because of the challenges women face in returning to work after giving birth.

It's not just marriage, more and more people, as per the Statistics Korea report, are now dismissive towards childbirth. Since 2018, the number of those who choose to remain child-free is rising. More than half the people surveyed last year reportedly said they don't see the need to have a child.

The trend is a cause of concern for South Korea, where last year the fertility rate fell to a record low of 0.78. As per the OECD, 2.1 is the rate needed for a stable population, South Korea's fertility rate is the lowest in the world.&nbsp;

South Koreans losing interest in marriage, spell trouble for ageing nation: Report

Recently, one of the world's leading astronomical observatories&nbsp;reported cyberattacks that temporarily shut down two of its telescopes. The United States-based National Science Foundation's National Optical-Infared Astronomy Research Laboratory or NOIRLab confirmed the news in its statement, Space.com reported.

NOIRLab&nbsp;on its website said, "Our staff are working with cybersecurity experts to get all the impacted telescopes and our website back online as soon as possible and are encouraged by the progress made thus far."

The space company added that the cybersecurity incident occurred on August 1, which temporarily halted&nbsp;functions at its Gemini North Telescope and Gemini South Chile in Hawaii and Chile respectively.

The incident happened just days before the United States Nations Counterintelligence and Security Center (NCSC) issued a two-page bulletin advising space agency companies and research organisations about the threat of espionage and cyberattacks.

The bulletin read, "Foreign spies and hackers recognise the importance of the commercial space industry to the US economy and national security, including the growing dependence of critical infrastructure on space-based assets. They see US space-related innovation and assets as potential threats as well as valuable opportunities to acquire vital technologies and expertise."

An official told the news agency Reuters, "We anticipate growing threats to this burgeoning sector of the US economy."

<h2>Motive not identified; probe on&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;</h2>

The authorities are still unclear on the motive and place from where the cyberattack occurred. They added that the investigation is still on and the organisation will now be more cautious about what information it shares.&nbsp;

This isn't the first time that astronomical observatories have been the target of cyberattacks.&nbsp;

Back in October 2022, hackers disrupted operations at the Atacama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter Array (ALMA) in Chile and US NASA had also been a victim of cyberattacks for years. In 2021, it was affected by a worldwide SolarWinds breach.

A news crew from Spanish-language station Univision Chicago was reporting in Chicago’s West Town neighbourhood.&nbsp;

The reporter and a cameraperson were filming a story on robberies in the neighbourhood when three masked men brandishing firearms robbed them. The robbers took the news crew's television camera and other personal items.

Talking to Chicago Tribune, Luis Godinez, vice president of news at Univision Chicago, said: "They were approached with guns and robbed. Mainly it was personal items, and they took a camera".

As per Godinez, the news crew were covering a story about robberies in the neighbourhood. The story was supposed to air early on the morning news. However, the footage they had shot on robberies in West Town was also stolen along with the camera, and it never made it on-air.

Chicago police said that the victims, 28-year-old man and 42-year-old man were outside when three masked men drove up to them in a grey sedan and a black SUV. After robbing the news crew, the robbers fled in their vehicles.

Police are yet to arrest anyone over the robbery. No injuries were reported.

As per news agency AP, this was the second such robbery this month. Previously, on August 8th, a WLS-TV photographer was assaulted and robbed while covering a weekday afternoon news conference on Chicago's West Side.

This latest edition of the campaign took place at the Chikushino Automobile School in Chikushino City on August 22 and had 10 participants, including a 77-year-old.&nbsp;

Drivers were first evaluated on their reflexes and driving skills while sober. They were then provided enough alcohol to exceed the legal limit and given a driving course to complete.

Talking to CNN, a police spokesperson revealed that each participant had a driving instructor with them throughout the exercise, even riding with them in their respective vehicles.

Conducted within the confines of the driving school premises, the "hands-on event" allowed "drivers to experience for themselves the difference between driving before and after drinking and to get a sense of how dangerous drink-driving can be," said the spokesperson.

Many participants, as per the spokesperson, acknowledged that the experience highlighted how they had been "overconfident" about their ability to drive under the influence of alcohol. The service for now will be introduced on Turkish-Dutch Corendon Airlines flights between Amsterdam and Curaçao starting November&nbsp;3.&nbsp;

“This zone on the plane is intended for travellers travelling without children and for business travellers who want to work in a quiet environment,” said the airline in a statement.

However, talking to Reuters, an Israeli official denied Libya's "short and unplanned" statement and said that the meeting was in fact prearranged "at the highest levels" within Libya. The official also said that the meeting lasted for over one hour.&nbsp;

Speaking to The Associated Press, a Libyan official, revealed that the meeting lasted for approximately two hours and that Mangoush later briefed the Libyan prime minister upon her return to Tripoli.&nbsp;

The official also said that this meeting was the culmination of US-brokered efforts aimed at having Libya join a group of Arab nations, and establishing diplomatic relations with Israel.

As per Haaretz, diplomats from Arab nations and the US believe that in the foreseeable future, the recent turmoil may have implications for efforts to foster normalisation between Israel and other Arab and Muslim countries.

The report goes on to say that a senior diplomat from an Arab nation maintaining ties with Israel said that this incident would erode other countries' confidence in Israeli officials.

The spacecraft is planned to be placed in a halo orbit around the Lagrange Point 1 (L1) of the Sun-Earth system, which is almost 1.5 million km away from the Earth.&nbsp;

Somanath said, "After the launch, it will take 125 days from the Earth to reach Lagrange point 1 (L1). We have to wait till then."&nbsp;

The Aditya L-1 mission aims to study the sun from an orbit around the L1 and will carry seven payloads to observe coronal heating, solar wind acceleration, coronal magnetometry, origin along with chromosphere, photosphere and the outermost layer.&nbsp;

What is Lagrange Point?

The Lagrange point, also known as L1, is positioned in space where the objects sent there are to stay. It was named in honour of Italian-French mathematician Josephy-Loius Lagrange.&nbsp;

There are five special points where a small mass can orbit in a constant pattern with two larger masses. Of these Lagrange points, three are unstable and two are stable.&nbsp;

The unstable points are labelled L1, L2 and L3 while the stable Lagrange points are L4 and L5.&nbsp;

However, L4 and L5 are stable as long as the mass ratio between the two large masses exceeds 24.96. Objects orbiting at the L4 and L5 points are often called Trojans after the three large asteroids Agamemnon, Achilles and Hector that orbit at both points of the Jupiter-Sun system.

G20 Summit in India:&nbsp;The national capital Delhi&nbsp;is making all preparations ahead of the G20 Summit to ensure&nbsp;everything goes smoothly. Over the weekend, Delhi Police put forward some traffic restrictions, and diversions and deployed 10,000 personnel on duty.&nbsp;

In a press conference on Friday, SS Yadav, Special Commissioner of Police said that the movement&nbsp;on roads and stretches in New Delhi and other nearby areas will be regulated and vehicles not destined for the city will be diverted towards the Eastern or Western peripheral Expressways and other routes.

Movement of Buses and Taxis:

“Heavy, Medium and Light Goods Vehicles will not be allowed to enter… goods vehicles carrying essential commodities and having a valid ‘No Entry Permission’ will be allowed to enter,” Yadav said.

“Buses already present in Delhi will operate on Ring Road and the road network beyond Ring Road towards the borders of Delhi.”

Autorickshaws and taxis will also be allowed in the city in areas like Connaught Place and other spots.&nbsp;

Movement towards the airport and the Old Railway station will be facilitated but the passengers are advised to take the advised routes and keep sufficient time in hand while travelling.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, metro services will be available for commuters. “Boarding and de-boarding at Supreme Court Metro Station will not be permitted from 5 am on September 9 to 11 pm on September 10.”

The senior police official said that a dedicated and specialised Ambulance Control Room will be installed and will be operational from 12 am IST on the intervening night of September 7 and 8 till September 11.&nbsp;

“Around 20 junctions have been identified for passing of ambulances and traffic inspectors will handle these areas on two-wheelers.”
