"Two decades ago, Google became the darling of Silicon Valley as a scrappy start-up with an innovative way to search the emerging internet," said the Justice Department in its lawsuit.&nbsp;"That Google is long gone."

The lawsuit also argues that Google illegally down-ranked sites such as Yelp and Expedia. These allegations were tossed out pre-trial by the presiding judge.

<h2>What Google has to say in its defence</h2>

Google denies these allegations and maintains that it did not violate&nbsp;the US antitrust law. In a court filing in January, Google said its browser agreements were "legitimate competition" and not "illicit exclusion."

It said these arguments did not prevent Google rival firms from developing their own rival search engines.&nbsp;

Google also said that the contracts did not stop rival companies like Mozilla and Apple from promoting their search engines.

It also said that users can easily switch search engines if they don't want to use Google.

In a blog post, as reported by AFP, Kent Walker, Google president of global affairs, said: "In sum, people don't use Google because they have to — they use it because they want to."

<h2>US antitrust law</h2>

As per Reuters, it is not illegal for a business to enter into exclusive arrangements with specific customers. In fact, such deals are a common business practice, and they rarely raise concerns or regulatory scrutiny, especially when a company lacks significant market power that could substantially affect competition.

However, exclusive deals can become illegal under antitrust laws if a company is considered having significant market power and uses these exclusive arrangements to prevent competitors from entering the market.&nbsp;

In such cases, the company must demonstrate that any restrictions on competition result are beneficial to its consumers.

The US antitrust law places the burden of proof in the upcoming trial on the Justice Department. It will have to prove that Google's business deals have harmed competition.&nbsp;

After that, Google will have the opportunity to argue at the non-jury trial that these deals actually benefit consumers. In other words, they may argue that the positive impact on consumers outweighs any negative effects on competition.

<h2>How long will the trial last?</h2>

Over a period of roughly 10 weeks, Judge Amit P Mehta will hear more than 100 witness testimonies and decide whether the case brought by the US Department of Justice has any merit or not.

His ruling, as per AFP, is expected "many months" after the roughly three months of expected hearings.

As per the news agency, whether Judge Mehta rules on Google's favour or the DoJ's, the ruling will certainly be appealed, so the case may drag on for years.

Google will not face a mere monetary penalty. Instead, the US DoJ and its state allies are seeking an injunction barring Google for continuing the alleged "exclusionary" anticompetitive practices.&nbsp;

A total of 2,753 people lost their lives when al-Qaeda operatives crashed two hijacked civilian passenger airliners into New York's Twin Towers. The total number of lives claimed by the day's terror attack as per the news agency was 2,977.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams in a statement released late Friday said: "We hope these new identifications can bring some measure of comfort to the families of these victims, and the ongoing efforts by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner attest to the city’s unwavering commitment to reunite all the World Trade Center victims with their loved ones."

<h2>How were the remains identified?</h2>

As per the news agency report, the two victims were identified through the use of "next-generation sequencing technology — more sensitive and rapid than conventional DNA techniques." Their remains were collected years ago.

Before this, the last two 9/11 attack victim identifications were made about two years back, in 2021. To date, 1,104 victims remain unidentified, and the progress in establishing their identities has been agonizingly slow.

The 2001 tragedy claimed thousands of lives. Collapsing&nbsp;with a deafening roar, two towers of the trade centre — first the south tower and then the north one — disintegrated with&nbsp;choking grey dust after the airliners crashed into them.

The government authorities have already started the drive by seizing the properties of these terrorists. Agencies like the National Investigative Agency (NIA) and State Investigative Agency (SIA) have seized dozens of properties in the Kashmir Valley. Jammu and Kashmir Police have also seized over 16 properties in Doda district in the last week.

''Those who have gone and taken shelter in Pakistan were earlier associated with terrorism here and now are running the networks from sitting across the border. We have made a list of those involved and recently in Doda district, we have taken strict action against those and seized their properties and have been listed among fugitives,'' said Dilbag Singh, the Director-General of J&amp;K Police.

According to government officials, the Inspector-General of Registrations and Revenue has already received a list of around 4,200 terrorists living in PoK for the last three decades.

The revenue department would most likely be seizing the properties and also making sure that these properties are neither sold nor bought by anyone. Jammu and Kashmir Police in recent times have also attached properties of those who are found guilty of wilfully providing shelter to the terrorists.

In a recent statement, the LG of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha also appealed to the locals of Kashmir Valley to not support or provide shelter to terrorists.

<h2>Why GERD is important for Ethiopia</h2>

Ethiopia believes that the GERD will double its electricity production, which is crucial for the nation where nearly half of the 127-million population lacks access to electricity, BBC reported.

It plans on generating more than 6,000 MW at the GERD dam that is situated approximately 30 kilometres from Ethiopia's border with Sudan.

However, ever since its launch, the dam has been a source of contention, primarily due to concerns about its potential impact on the downstream countries, particularly Egypt and Sudan.&nbsp;

<h2>Cause for dispute</h2>

Earlier,&nbsp;Egypt and Sudan called for common rules for the dam's operation to address their fears of water shortages. They have also expressed fear that Ethiopia's energy demands may increase, further exacerbating water shortages.

Egypt's foreign ministry has criticised Ethiopia's reservoir filling. In a statement on Facebook, it said that the "unilateral" filling of the reservoir was "illegal" and a violation of a 2015 declaration of principles signed by the three nations.&nbsp;

"The declaration of principles stipulates the necessity of the three countries reaching an agreement on the rules for filling and operating the Gerd before commencing the filling process," said Egypt's foreign ministry in its statement.

"Ethiopia's unilateral measures are considered a disregard for the interests and rights of the downstream countries and their water security, as guaranteed by principles of international law."

The president will be turning 81 this year in November. He would be 82 at the start of a prospective second-year term in January 2025.&nbsp;

Others surveyed also questioned Biden’s ability to understand and address issues affecting future generations of the country.

The Canadian federal government on Thursday (Sept 07) named an appellate judge who will lead a public inquiry into foreign interference in the country's elections.

The governing Liberals announced Marie-Josee Hogue, a Quebec appeals court judge as the lead, tasked with providing a series of recommendations ahead of the federal vote in 2025, the Guardian reported.&nbsp;

Calling foreign interference a "global challenge," Dominic LeBlanc, who serves as the public safety and democratic institutions ministers said, "Justice Hogue will be tasked with examining and assessing foreign interference by China, Russia and other foreign states and non-state actors." He added Hogue will have full access to all key documents needed for the inquiry.&nbsp;

This announcement comes after months of pressure on Justin Trudeau's Liberals to launch a full inquiry amid claims of meddling by China, including concerns over illegal "police stations" operating in the country.&nbsp;

Back in May, Canada expelled a Chinese diplomat after an intelligence report accused him of trying to intimidate a Canadian lawmaker crucial to Beijing's treatment of its Muslim minority.&nbsp;

However, Canada's efforts to investigate foreign interference were halted in recent months after the officials resigned in late spring.&nbsp;

Who was Yohanes Kidane and what happened to him?

Yohanes&nbsp;recently graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science. He was schooled at Webster-Schroeder High School. He was working as a software engineer at the streaming service.

The university grad was reported missing in mid-August after he had not shown up to his one-week-old job at Netflix all day. He moved to the area two weeks before his disappearance on August 14.

His family claimed he was seen on a security camera leaving his apartment building in downtown San Jose. He ordered the vehicle with the Uber sticker.&nbsp;

His brother said, "Two young colleagues of his saw him and were able to talk to him. He said he was heading to San Francisco to maybe meet a friend. The last footage I’ve seen of him was leaving his apartment building and getting into a black Toyota Camry."&nbsp;

According to Daily Mail, the body was found on August 29 and the identity was ultimately confirmed on August 31 and his family was quickly notified of his discovery and passing.&nbsp;

His belongings, phone and wallet were discovered near the&nbsp;Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center in San Francisco.

On Sept 1, an autopsy was conducted and Kidane's cause of death was determined to be "blunt impact injuries with drowning" as the contributing factor.&nbsp;

His mother, Mehret Hana Beyene said, "We want to take him home. I need my son. I need my son. He’s a good man who has a bright future, very loving to his family."

It is currently unclear what caused him the blunt injuries and what caused officials&nbsp;to rule that Yohanes's death a suicide.&nbsp;

What is foetal surgery?

There are several conditions for which foetal surgery can be performed such as Monochorionic twin complications, Spina bifida, Congenital (present at birth) lung malformations, Lower urinary tract obstruction and Sacrococcygeal teratoma etc.&nbsp;

The most important consideration in all foetal interventions is the safety of the mother -&nbsp;her current health and her future reproductive potential.

Kourtney also opened up about the fear she experienced during the medical procedure. She said she had newfound respect for all&nbsp;mothers who have faced similar situations. Metro Operations:

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation&nbsp;(DMRC) has withdrawn its restrictions for&nbsp;39 metro stations. The&nbsp;letter regarding the change reads,&nbsp;"The request letter for the closure of gates of 39 Metro Stations which was made vide this office letter…dated 02.09.2023 is hereby withdrawn administrative grounds."

The Indian Express reported that Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Surender Singh Yadav has encouraged&nbsp;the&nbsp;public to use metro services. All stations would be operational, with the exception of the Supreme Court metro station, which would depend on security requirements.

He added that certain gates at sensitive areas could be temporarily closed, due to security restrictions, but this will last for only 10-15 minutes. Otherwise, operations will continue smoothly.&nbsp;

New data has revealed that more than one in five kids in England are frequently missing school as they are struggling to get back to their pre-pandemic schedule.&nbsp;

Dame Rachel de Souza, the children's commissioner said some children play truant while others experience anxiety or have educational needs so find it easier to stay at home. She urged parents to get their children back to school, BBC reported.

Department for Education (DfE) figures showed 22.3 per cent of children in England were persistently absent over the last academic year. A breakdown of figures further, shows that the problem is most marked among children on free school meals (37.9 per cent) and those with an education, health and care plan (33.4 per cent).

Before the pandemic, just one in every 10 students used to be absent.&nbsp;

The major absenteeism was on Fridays since the parents were at home.&nbsp;

Speaking to BBC, Dame said that in 1.8 million children, an estimated 100,000 were playing truant.&nbsp;

"We've got a real problem post-pandemic around attendance. 1.8 million of an eight million cohort is huge... that's double the number from before the pandemic." She said it is really important for children who are anxious to go back to school.&nbsp;

Following this, Labour's shadow education secretary Bridget Phillipson said that she was very concerned about young people and their futures. She added that her party would deliver breakfast for every primary school child in England and improve mental health support for the children.&nbsp;

A spokesperson for DfE said,&nbsp;"Attending school is vital for children's development and while it's encouraging that attendance is improving, there is more to be done for the year to come to ensure children are in regular education. New agency ANI reported that DCP Metro G Ram Gopal Naik in a letter listed 39 stations where action needed to be taken. Metro stations like Supreme Court, Janpath, Bhikaji Cama Place, Khan Market&nbsp;and Dhaula Kuan have been marked as 'Sensitive stations.'&nbsp;

The national capital, which started its G20 preparations a few months ago, has been training personnel to be deployed during the event. The preparations also include planting ornamental plants at traffic roundabouts and fountains.&nbsp;

Nikki Haley,&nbsp;Republican presidential candidate and former South Carolina governor, in a recent interview&nbsp;criticised the age and health of some senior members of the US Senate.

Speaking to reporters in Kentucky, she called&nbsp;the US Senate&nbsp;"the most privileged nursing home in the country," and said that&nbsp;mental competency tests should be mandated for candidates over a certain age.

Haley's comments come in the wake of Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell suffering a second freeze during a media appearance. The senator was speaking to reporters in Covington, Kentucky, when&nbsp;the 81-year-old leader appeared to freeze for 30 seconds.

Previously, in July, the Senate Majority leader suffered a similar episode while speaking to the press&nbsp;at the US Capitol in Washington, DC.

Haley has called for mental competency tests for candidates over 75.&nbsp;

"I wouldn't care if they did [tested those] over the age of 50," said Haley, adding that "these people are making decisions on our national security. They're making decisions on our economy, on the border."

"We need to know they're at the top of their game. You can't say that right now, looking at Congress," she remarked.

This lunar property was purchased from The Lunar Registry in New York City and was officially certified on August 25, according to Masson.

He said that the Moon represents a symbol of hope for the future and could also serve as a psychological escape hatch for humans facing the challenges of climate change.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday (August 31st) the space agency revealed that the spacecraft has recorded what seems to be "natural" seismic activity.

As per ISRO, the "seemingly natural" event was recorded on August 26, 2023 by the Instrument for Lunar Seismic Activity (ILSA) payload on Chandrayaan-3's Vikram Lander. On its website, the Indian Space Agency said that "the source of this event is currently under investigation."

<h2>What is the Instrument for Lunar Seismic Activity (ILSA)?</h2>

The Instrument for Lunar Seismic Activity (ILSA) is one of the payloads onboard the Chandrayaan-3 lander called Vikram.

As per ISRO, "ILSA comprises a cluster of six high-sensitivity accelerometers, which are indigenously fabricated using the Silicon Micromachining process. The core sensing element consists of a spring-mass system with comb-structured electrodes. External vibrations lead to a deflection of the spring, resulting in a change in capacitance which is converted into voltage."

"ILSA's primary objective is to measure ground vibrations generated by natural quakes, impacts, and artificial events," it adds.

With Chandrayaan-3 mission, India has become the first nation to land a spacecraft on the unexplored South Pole of the moon and just the fourth nation to land on Earth's lunar satellite. The Wednesday (August 23)&nbsp;landing came just days after Russia's Luna-25 failed in a similar mission.

The rover and Vikram, the lander that transported Pragyan to the Moon, are rushing to complete their experiments before the upcoming lunar night, which spans 14 Earth days and is expected to begin next week. Over the period of its two-week lifespan, rover Pragyan will amble around the relatively unmapped South Pole and transmit images and scientific data to Earth.
