The Group 1 Super 12 match was scheduled to start at 1.30PM IST but rain forced the players to reman indoors. Both teams shared a point each as rain refused to relent, forcing the umpires to call off the match.

The covers were removed ahead of the scheduled inspection, but it started raining heavily again at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The former New Zealand batter has made some shocking revelations stating that cricket remains "a pretty white sport in New Zealand" and that he endured racist comments which were usually considered "banter" by those involved.

Taylor, who announced his retirement from international cricket in April this year, has been an epitome of grit and unwavering commitment in New Zealand cricket. He scored 252, his second Test double century, in New Zealand's first innings of 521-6 declared, then took six catches as New Zealand bowled out Bangladesh for 126 and 278 after enforcing the follow-on.

In doing so, Latham became the first player in Test history to score 250 and take six catches in the same match.

"We came here 1-0 down after losing the first test and putting a performance like this on the board was very pleasing," Latham said.

"We talked about it in the days before the match that we had to improve on a number of areas and I thought we did that well.

"I guess getting put in on day one on a wicket we know does a little bit on day one, to get through that first session, to build partnerships throughout the innings was ideal. I guess we know first innings scores here are very important."

It was a fairytale ending for Ross Taylor as the New Zealand great finished his Test career with a wicket off the final ball of his last Test match. Taylor, one of the best batters to have played for New Zealand, ended his Test career on Tuesday (January 11) after playing his last game against visitors Bangladesh at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch.

Playing his final Test, Taylor scored 28 runs off 39 balls in New Zealand's first innings and didn't get a chance to bat in the second one as Kiwi skipper Tom Latham decided to enforce the follow-on against Bangladesh. However, Taylor did get a chance to bowl in the final Test match of his career.

Not a regular bowler, Taylor had picked only two wickets in his entire Test career before Tuesday. However, in what was a fitting end to a glorious career, the veteran batter managed to get a wicket off the last ball he bowled in the whites for New Zealand. Taylor dismissed Bangladesh's tail-ender Ebadot Hossain on the third delivery of the &nbsp;80th over of the visitors' second innings.

Hossain went for a big shot against Taylor and ended up getting caught by Latham. The New Zealand players were elated as they celebrated with Taylor and hugged him to congratulate him on the final wicket of his Test career. It was only the third wicket of Taylor's Test career.

New Zealand got off to a brilliant start on Day 1 of the ongoing second Test against Bangladesh at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Sunday (January 09). Openers Tom Latham and Will Young put on a brilliant stand of 148 runs for the first wicket before Devon Conway joined the party with a sensational knock of unbeaten 99 to help the hosts finish strong at stumps on the&nbsp;opening day.

While Latham remained unbeaten on 186, his opening partner Young scored 54 off 114 deliveries before being dismissed by Shoriful Islam in the 38th over. His stay out in the middle could have been cut short earlier by Ebadot Hossain, however, Young managed to survive after edging one to the slip fielder and ended up getting 7 runs off just 1 ball.

The incident happened in the 26th over of New Zealand's first innings when Young was batting on 26. Hossain managed to induce an edge off his bat which flew towards the slip. He was put down by the fielder as the ball raced towards the boundary rope. Taskin Ahmed managed to cut it off before the ball could have touched the boundary rope and threw it back towards the wicket-keeper as the Young and Latham scrambled for the third run.

The wicket-keeper took an aim at the stumps after receiving the ball, however, both the Kiwi batters had already completed the third run by then. What followed was an absolute comedy of errors as wicket-keeper Nurul Hasan's throw missed the stump and saw the ball travel to the boundary line. Young managed to get three runs by running and a four from the overthrow as he ended up with 7 runs off just 1 ball.

The incident happened in the 26th over of New Zealand's first innings when Young was batting on 26. Hossain managed to induce an edge off his bat which flew towards the slip. He was put down by the fielder as the ball raced towards the boundary rope. Taskin Ahmed managed to cut it off before the ball could have touched the boundary rope and threw it back towards the wicket-keeper as the Young and Latham scrambled for the third run. The wicket-keeper took an aim at the stumps after receiving the ball, however, both the Kiwi batters had already completed the third run by then. Taylor on Thursday confirmed that the current summer will be his last for the BlackCaps, marking the end of a remarkable 16-year international career. 
 
According to New Zealand Cricket (NZC), Taylor signalled his intentions on the eve of the Test series against Bangladesh, starting in Mount Maunganui on Saturday, confirming the two-match series would be his last in the red-ball cricket, before bowing out in the ODIs against Australia and Netherlands later this summer.

"It's been an amazing journey and I feel incredibly fortunate to have represented my country for as long as I have," he was quoted as saying by NZC. 
 
"It's been such a privilege to play with and against some of the greats of the game and to have created so many memories and friendships along the way. 
 
"But all good things must come to an end and the timing feels right for me. I want to thank my family, friends and all those who have helped me get to this point. 
 
"There'll be plenty of time for more thank-yous and reflections later in the season -- but for now I want all my energy and focus to be on preparing and performing for the BlackCaps this summer." 
 
Taylor said he would remain available for Central Districts until the end of the season before making a decision on whether to continue playing domestic cricket. 
 
Taylor has scored the most runs for NZ in Tests (7584) and is one of only four New Zealanders to play 100 Tests -- at 110 Tests, he joins Daniel Vettori 112, Stephen Fleming 111 and Brendon McCullum 101 on the list. 
 
Coach Gary Stead told New Zealand Cricket that Taylor would undoubtedly bow out as one of New Zealand's greats. 
 
"Ross has always been a hugely respected member of the side and we`re thankful for his contributions to the BlackCaps over an incredible career. 
 
"His skills and temperament as a batsman have been world-class and his ability to perform at such a high level for so long speaks volumes of his longevity and professionalism. 
 
"His experience has held the side together on countless occasions and his catching record speaks for itself. There's no doubt we're going to miss him when he`s gone. 
 
"Seeing him hit the winning runs in Southampton to help win our first ICC World title is a moment I will never forget and I'm sure it's the same for many of the fans.
