<p>You may have seen various photos of Jupiter taken from a distant telescope from Earth. But have you ever seen the mighty planet up close? NASA has released new footage of Jupiter that was taken by the Juno spacecraft that has been hovering over the gas giant since 2016. The US agency has shared an incredible animated sequence created by citizen scientist Andrea Luck using raw JunoCam image data. This clip shows a close shot of the giant planet when the spacecraft flew just 2,050 miles (3,300 kilometres) above the&nbsp;gas giant's cloud tops on April 9.</p>

<p>This was Juno's 41st flyby above the radiation-spewing planet, during which the spacecraft soared at a top speed of 131,000 mph (210,000 km/h) relative to Jupiter, NASA said on May 27.</p>

NASA said, "Observations of 55 Cancri e from NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope suggest that the hottest region is offset from the part that faces the star most directly. While the total amount of heat detected from the day side does vary." &nbsp;</p>

Epitome of 'hell on earth’: NASA to study unique exoplanet '55 Cancri e'  

<p>NASA has picked two space companies under its Artemis programme—&nbsp;the agency’s flagship initiative to send humans back to the lunar surface— to develop the next-generation spacesuits for future astronauts to conduct spacewalks and eventually traverse the surface of the Moon.</p>

<p>Apart from the astronauts, these lunar suits made by Axiom Space and Collins Aerospace will also be worn by crew members living and working on the International Space Station.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The contracts were awarded by NASA as part of its strategy of growing commercial partnerships.</p>

<p>"With these awards, NASA and our partners will develop advanced, reliable spacesuits that allow humans to explore the cosmos unlike ever before," said Vanessa Wyche, director of NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, in a statement.</p>

<p>"By partnering with industry, we are efficiently advancing the necessary technology to keep Americans on a path of successful discovery on the International Space Station and as we set our sights on exploring the lunar surface."</p>

<p>Under the Artemis programme, NASA seeks to land the first woman and the first person of colour at the lunar south pole by 2025, and eventually prepare for landing crewed missions on Mars.</p>

<p>Experts from NASA have developed the required safety and technical standards for the spacesuits. Axiom Space and Collins Aerospace will design, develop and potentially produce the suits and any necessary equipment for the space station crew and Artemis astronauts.</p>

<p>The suits are expected to be ready by the mid-2020s. “The new suits and their capabilities will "help us explore more of the moon than we ever have before," Lindsay Aitchison, program executive for NASA's Extravehicular Activity and Human Surface Mobility program, told CNN.</p>

<p>"We will be able to have these capabilities tested, and they'll be tested before our astronauts are being used on orbit or either on the surface of the moon," Wyche said.</p>

NASA selects two companies to build next-generation lunar spacesuits

<p>A visiting delegation from the American Space Agency (NASA) has indicated that the NASA-ISRO joint mission, 'NISAR', would be launched from India's spaceport at Sriharikota in early 2023. NISAR (NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar) is a satellite that will use&nbsp;advanced radar imaging to provide an unprecedented, detailed view of Earth. It is designed to observe and take measurements of some of the planet's most complex processes, such as&nbsp;ecosystem disturbances, ice-sheet collapse, and natural hazards such as earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes, and landslides.</p>

<p>Sharing the status of the satellite development, Dr. Thomas Zurbuchen,&nbsp;Associate Administrator, NASA, Science Mission Directorate revealed that the "radar payload is fully electrically integrated and functionally tested; 12-meter deployable boom and reflector radar antenna integration underway, joint initial mission operations tests successfully completed." Furthermore, it was stated that environmental testing (analyzing spacecraft performance in simulated thermal and vacuum conditions of space) would be carried out in different phases in the coming months.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, it has denied it was setting up its own dedicated UAP office.</p>

<p>NASA’s decision comes weeks after the historic Congress hearing on UAPs in 54 years where the spotting of the flying saucers was officially acknowledged.</p>

<p>During the hearing, they also came up with a new law mandating a government UAP task force, which will be aided by NASA.</p>

<p>According to DailyMail.com, a source affiliated with the US government and knows of NASA’s UAP research said that the US space agency could gather evidence from astronauts.</p>

<p>“I suspect it will be a combination of efforts that will include perhaps firsthand eyewitness testimony of NASA employees and astronauts, and then perhaps a review of old archival footage to assess if there are some findings within the NASA archives that can help AOIMSG.”</p>

<p>NASA's Earth Observatory has captured satellite images of an undersea volcano eruption which shows plumes of superheated, acidic water slowly permeating in the southern Pacific. The image was taken on May 14 by the Operational Land Imager 2 on the Landsat 9 satellite. It showed an underwater eruption of the Kavachi Volcano of the Solomon Islands, which is one of the most active submarine volcanoes in the Pacific Ocean. It is known for its shark inhabitants and has been dubbed “Sharkcano” after a 2015 search expedition exploring the volcano discovered marine life in the active crater. It found two species of sharks: silky sharks and hammerheads.</p>

<p>The researchers also found that these&nbsp;sharks&nbsp;have evolved/mutated over time to thrive underwater on sulfur. The presence of the sharks in the crater raised “new questions about the ecology of active submarine volcanoes and the extreme environments in which large marine animals can exist,” the researchers wrote in a 2016&nbsp;Oceanography&nbsp;article,&nbsp;“Exploring the ‘Sharkcano’.”</p>

<p>The images were shared on Twitter, showing a plume of discoloured water being emitted from the Kavachi Volcano.</p>

<p>The scientists believe a binary-coded message is most likely to be understood by aliens.</p>

<p>“Though the concept of mathematics in human terms is potentially unrecognizable to extra-terrestrial intelligence, binary is likely universal across all intelligence,” the scientists said in their official project document.</p>

<p>The Whirlpool Galaxy, which is located about 31 million light-years away in the constellation Canes Venatici, is also known as M51 and has been captured by the Hubble Space Telescope.</p>

<p>The rendezvous of the gumdrop-shaped CST-100 Starliner has been furnished by the Boeing-Lockheed Martin joint venture United Launch Alliance (ULA).</p>

<p>The spacecraft, which is currently home to a seven-member crew, had missed the scheduled time by more than an hour due to technical issues.</p>

<p>Despite the failure of two onboard thrusters and a problem that required ground control to retract its docking system and then re-deploy it, the vessel flew 271 miles (436 km) over the south Indian Ocean off the coast of Australia at 0028 GMT Saturday.</p>

<p>According to Boeing mission commentator Steve Siceloff, "This is all part of the learning process for operating Starliner in orbit."</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the US Space agency NASA said in a blog post, "That system operated normally during all of the propulsion system demonstrations, and with redundancies in place, does not pose a risk to the rest of the flight test."&nbsp;</p>

<p>Boeing, which plans a redesign after this week's flight, ultimately resolved the issue with a temporary workaround and said the success is pivotal for the Chicago-based company scrambling to climb out of successive crises in its jetliner business and its space defense unit.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Referring to Starliner's sole passenger mannequin named Rosie the Rocketeer, NASA astronaut Mike Fincke said at a press conference this week, "We are a little jealous of Rosie."&nbsp;</p>

<p>Starliner could fly its first team of astronauts to the space station as early as the fall if all goes well with the current mission which is delivering more than 800 pounds of cargo to the ISS.</p>

<p>Forty-five years since its launch, NASA’s Voyager 1 spacecraft has been continuing its journey far beyond our solar system.</p>

<p>Launched in 1977, Voyager 1 exited our solar system in 12 years and entered interstellar space in 2012.</p>

<p>Despite its advanced age and 14.5-billion-mile distance (23.3 billion kilometres) from Earth, the probe continues to send back more scientific data as it pushes forward to uncover the vast unknowns of the galaxy.</p>

<p>However, new data sent by the Voyager 1 has perplexed the NASA engineers of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL).</p>

<p>On Wednesday, NASA said that while the probe is still operating properly, readouts from its attitude articulation and control system (AACS) didn’t match the spacecraft's movements and orientation, suggesting the craft is confused about its location in space.</p>

<p>The AACS is essential for Voyager as it ensures that the spacecraft’s high-gain antenna remains pointed at Earth so that can send data back to NASA.</p>

<p>"A mystery like this is sort of par for the course at this stage of the Voyager mission," Suzanne Dodd, a project manager for&nbsp;Voyager 1 and 2&nbsp;at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, said in a&nbsp;statement.</p>

<p>"The spacecraft are both almost 45 years old, which is far beyond what the mission planners anticipated," NASA said, adding that Voyager 1's twin, the Voyager 2 probe, is behaving normally.</p>

<p>“You are getting the most precise measure of the expansion rate for the universe from the gold standard of telescopes and cosmic mile markers,” said Adam Riess of the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) and the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, in a statement.</p>

<p>The Hubble telescope has been gathering data for the last 30 years and it shows that although it was predicted that the rate of expansion will be 67.5 kilometers per second per megaparsec with a margin of error of 0.5, the current rate of expansion is somewhere around 73.</p>

<p>One such stunning image captured by one of the greater observatories was shared by NASA—the ‘Sombrero Galaxy’, which is roughly around 40 million light-years away from earth.</p>

<p>Set against a backdrop of remote galaxies, the Sombrero, also known as ‘Little Sombrero’, ‘NGC 7814’ or ‘Caldwell 43’, features a bright central bulge, a thin disk full of dust, and a glowing halo of gas and stars.</p>

<p>In its blog post, NASA stated that a few years ago ‘Sombrero’ galaxy, which is billions of years old, had a bright central bulge and a halo of glowing gas extending out into space.</p>

<p>Multiple missions are underway to collect a pristine sample of Mars, ranging from China's Tianwen-2 to NASA and the European Space Agency's (ESA) Perseverance Rover.</p>

<p>As per a former NASA Planetary Protection Officer, Cassie Conley, "Since the beginning of space exploration, planetary protection has mandated that samples from Mars should be considered 'Restricted Earth Return'."</p>

<p>Talking to space.com Colney explained that this means it "requires the most stringent containment to protect both the samples and the Earth."</p>

<p>According to NASA, collecting and transporting samples is critical in answering one crucial question: did life ever exist on Mars?</p>

<p>The NASA Mars Sample Return Mission (MSR) website says "Only by bringing the samples back can we truly answer the question by using the most sophisticated, state-of-the-art labs, at a time when future generations can study them using techniques yet to be invented."</p>

<p>According to it, several panels of scientific experts from the United States and around the world have studied whether samples from Mars could pose a threat to Earth's environment. &nbsp;</p>

<p>While the effort is described as "low risk," it's wise to remember that it isn't zero risk.</p>

<p>But there is another possibility: robots and devices from Earth can very well take with them Earth microbes that can negatively affect Mars.</p>

<p>Skywatchers across the globe will get to witness an amazing spectacle; a long-lasting blood moon in a few days.</p>

<p>It is a total lunar eclipse and will be fully visible from portions of the Americas, Antarctica, Europe, Africa and the East Pacific.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The full moon will be totally eclipsed by our planet, bathing the lunar surface in shades of deep red; hence the name 'Blood Moon'.</p>

<p>NASA has detected a monster marsquake on Earth's neighbour. We already know that the red planet experiences quakes regularly. But this one, detected by NASA's InSight Mars Lander is mother of them all.</p>

<p>The marsquake was of 'magnitude 5 temblor'. It took place on May 4, 2022. The marsquake took place on 1222nd Martian day of the InSight lander's mission, said NASA in a press release.</p>

<p>Last most intense marsquake was of the magnitude 4.2 and it took place on August 25, 2021.</p>

<p>The latest 'monster' marsquake would be a medium-sized quake if it took place on Earth but on Mars, it is close to the "upper limit of what scientists hoped to see on Mars during InSight’s mission" said NASA.</p>

<p>“Since we set our seismometer down in December 2018, we’ve been waiting for ‘the big one,’” said Bruce Banerdt, InSight’s principal investigator at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California, which leads the mission. “This quake is sure to provide a view into the planet like no other. Scientists will be analyzing this data to learn new things about Mars for years to come.”</p>

<p>NASA's InSight lander landed on Mars in 2018. It has a very sensitive seismometer. Till now, InSight has recorded more than 1300 marsquakes.</p>

NASA InSight lander records 'monster quake' on Mars

<p>NASA's third long-duration astronaut team to International Space Station (ISS) departed from the ISS to come return to Earth on Thursday (May 5). These astronauts were on a six-month mission and were ferried to the ISS by SpaceX when their mission began.</p>

<p>The SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule carrying three US&nbsp;NASA astronauts and a German astronaut from the European Space Agency undocked from the ISS at 1:20 a.m. EDT (0520 GMT) to embark on a return flight expected to last about 23 hours.</p>

<p>Live video showed the capsule drifting away from the ISS.</p>

<p>Wearing helmeted white-and-black spacesuits, the four astronauts were seen strapped into the crew cabin shortly before the spacecraft separated from the space station, orbiting some 250 miles (400 km) above the Earth.</p>

<p>A series of several brief rocket thrusts then autonomously pushed the capsule safely clear of the ISS and lowered its orbit to line up the spacecraft for later atmospheric reentry and splashdown.</p>

<p>If all goes smoothly, the Crew Dragon craft, dubbed Endurance, will parachute into the sea off the coast of Florida at 12:43 a.m. EDT (0443 GMT) on Friday (May 6).</p>

<p>The Endurance crew, consisting of American astronauts Tom Marshburn, 61, Raja Chari, 44 and Kayla Barron, 34, along with ESA crewmate Matthias Maurer, 52, arrived at the space station on Nov. 11.</p>

The SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule carrying three US NASA astronauts and a German astronaut from the European Space Agency undocked from the ISS at 1:20 a.m. EDT (0520 GMT) to embark on a return flight expected to last about 23 hours. Live video showed the capsule drifting away from the ISS. Wearing helmeted white-and-black spacesuits, the four astronauts were seen strapped into the crew cabin shortly before the spacecraft separated from the space station, orbiting some 250 miles (400 km) above the Earth. A series of several brief rocket thrusts then autonomously pushed the capsule safely clear of the ISS and lowered its orbit to line up the spacecraft for later atmospheric reentry and splashdown. If all goes smoothly, the Crew Dragon craft, dubbed Endurance, will parachute into the sea off the coast of Florida at 12:43 a.m. EDT (0443 GMT) on Friday (May 6). The Endurance crew, consisting of American astronauts Tom Marshburn, 61, Raja Chari, 44 and Kayla Barron, 34, along with ESA crewmate Matthias Maurer, 52, arrived at the space station on Nov. 11. <p>The quest to talk to the green little men actually started more than a century ago. It started with an Austrian named Joseph Johann Von Littrow. If you're wondering how did a 19th-century astronomer want to contact aliens, surely they didn't have the technology back then...you're right.</p>

We can only theorise what happens inside this mysterious celestial structure but we don't know for sure as no one, or nothing from our planet has entered black hole and returned to tell the tale. Gravitational pull of black hole is so unimaginably powerful that even light, the fastest entity in the universe, cannot escape the grip of a black hole.</p>

The black hole’s extreme gravity alters the paths of light coming from different parts of the disk, making rings of matter visible above and below. <p>With the Russia-Ukraine conflict crossing the two-month mark, the tensions between Moscow and the West continue to escalate.</p>

<p>Russia has now announced that it is all set to pull out of the International Space Station and that the country's space agency will no longer work with NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA).&nbsp;</p>

<p>Speaking to Russian state TV, Roscosmos General Director Dmitry Rogozin said that Russia will no longer cooperate with international partners onboard ISS.</p>

<p>According to a Bloomberg report, Rogozin said that in accordance to the obligations the agency will inform its partners about the exit date with a year's notice.</p>

<p>In spite of the tensions between Russia and the West, space has been one of the last remaining areas of cooperation but seems like Russia's unprecedented aggression toward its neighbour&nbsp;Ukraine will be creating tensions in space too.</p>

<p>Russia had earlier warned this month that If the country were to withdraw, it will pose major problems for the ISS as Russian rockets deliver a large amount of cargo needed to maintain the space station.</p>

<p>&nbsp;In late March, NASA astronaut Mark Vande Hei shared a ride back to Earth alongside two Russian Cosmonauts and when asked had said that the relations among the ISS crew remained unaffected by the tensions in Ukraine.</p>

<p>"We support each other through everything," said Hei adding that he "never had any concerns about my ability to continue working with them".</p>

<p>It's a piece of a shattered spacecraft that NASA owns. The component you see in the picture is called 'backshell' that detached from the space agency's Perseverance rover in February 2021.</p>

<p>However, as NASA engineer Ian Clark put it, the images "exude otherworldly" vibes.</p>

<p>The photographs were shot by the Perseverance rover's robotic helicopter buddy, Ingenuity after it spent a year on Mars.</p>

<p>This isn't just space waste, according to the New York Times, analysing the remains of this backshell could be useful for NASA's next trip to Mars, which has been dubbed Mars Sample Return.</p>

<p>Two landers will be placed on the planet's surface, as well as a rover that will gather space rock, i.e., rock samples that are drilled Perseverance, and a rocket that will launch these samples into orbit so that they can be returned to Earth.</p>
