<p>The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has shared an amazing image of the Cygnus Loop nebula on its official Instagram account. According to a social media user, it looks like an "abstracted skull".&nbsp;</p>

<p>NASA says that the wispy blue swirls of the Cygnus Loop nebula are basically the result of a massive stellar explosion that occurred 5,000 to 8,000 years ago.&nbsp;</p>

<p>For the unversed, it is known that Cygnus Loop is a large supernova remnant (SNR) in the constellation Cygnus, an emission nebula measuring nearly 3° across.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the post, NASA says that Supernova remnants like this nebula play an important role in "stellar evolution, enriching space with heavy elements and spurring the formation of new stars by compressing stellar gas".&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per NASA, the gas and dust visible here in an ultraviolet (UV) image from our Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX) were heated by the shockwave from the supernova.&nbsp;</p>

<p>GALEX was an orbiting space telescope that made observations at UV wavelengths to measure the history of stars forming in the universe. NASA said that the observations were made nearly all the way back to the Big Bang.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Cygnus Loop apparently extends over three times the size of the full moon in the night sky.&nbsp;</p>

Scientists think that there are enormous oceans of liquid water under this ice coating on these satellites. At least till now, we have only been able to make conjectures&nbsp;about strange sea creatures swimming in these uncharted oceans.</p>

<p>But now a concept design has proposed a novel solution to the problem of ice sheets several kilometres thick. Ethan Schaler, a robotics mechanical engineer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) has put forth a new idea. Schaler’s Sensing With Independent Micro-Swimmers (SWIM) concept was awarded $600,000 from NASA.</p>

<p>Schaler's concept involves sending dozens of mobile phone-sized swimming probe to Europa and releasing them in the water below the ice. But how can we penetrate kilometres of ice to reach the liquid ocean? By a cryobot.</p>

<p>This cryobot would have narrow ice-melting probes in which the swimming probes with be place. The narrow probe will melt ice and reach the ocean. And this will be the time to release swimming probes and gather data.</p>

<p>If the conept design gets developed into something concrete, then these probes may actually get sent to Europa. NASA is planning to make it happen by 2030.</p>

NASA may make swimming robots to find aliens

<p>Is it really possible for a country to take over Moon? Or declare Moon as its own territory? NASA accusations suggest so.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On Saturday, NASA chief Bill Nelson said in an interview that China could someday land on the moon. He also claimed that Beijing might declare Moon as its own territory.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per Nelson, China will complete the construction of its own Moon station by 2035. The country will then be able to launch several lunar missions.&nbsp;</p>

<p>China is planning to land on Moon and the NASA chief admitted that the US space administration has been "very concerned" about the country's agenda to take over the natural satellite.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In response, China says it has always called for the building of a community of nations in outer space. And rejected the accusations and called NASA's chief claims an irresponsible smear.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In recent years, China has stepped up the pace of its space programme, with a focus on Moon exploration.&nbsp;</p>

<p>NASA’s Innovative Advance Concepts program awarded a $600,000 grant to a robotics mechanical engineer at the US agency’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in order to design the robots. Ethan Schaler has been given a time frame of two years to come up with the final products for NASA. &nbsp;</p>

<p>“With a swarm of small swimming robots, we are able to explore a much larger volume of ocean water and improve our measurements by having multiple robots collecting data in the same area,” Schaler said about the project according to a NASA release.</p>

In the first of three planned launches from the Arnhem Space Centre, the rocket, carrying technology likened to a "mini Hubble" telescope, lifted off and blasted about 350 kilometres (218 miles) into the night sky.</p>

<p>Equatorial Launch Australia CEO Michael Jones told AFP ahead of the lift-off, "It is a momentous occasion for us as a company in particular, but it's historic for Australia."&nbsp;</p>

<p>Jones, whose company owns and operates the launch site in the far north of Australia, described it as a "coming out" party for the country's space industry and said the chance to work with NASA was a milestone for commercial space firms in the country.</p>

<p>After a series of rain and wind delays, the suborbital-sounding rocket soared into the sky to study x-rays emanating from the Alpha Centauri A and B systems. After reaching its apogee, the rocket's payload was to capture data on the star systems before parachuting back to earth.</p>

<p>According to NASA, the launch offers a unique glimpse of the distant systems and unlocked fresh possibilities for scientists.</p>

<p>"We're excited to be able to launch important science missions from the Southern Hemisphere and see targets that we can't from the United States," Nicky Fox, NASA's Heliophysics Division director in Washington, said on announcing the mission.</p>

<p>It is the first NASA rocket to launch from Australia since 1995, and the project was hailed as the start of a "new era" for the country's space industry by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.&nbsp;</p>

In a historic moment for the United States’ space industry, NASA's first-ever launch from a commercial site outside of the United States blasted off from Australia's Outback late on Sunday, as reported by AFP. In the first of three planned launches from the Arnhem Space Centre, the rocket, carrying technology likened to a "mini Hubble" telescope, lifted off and blasted about 350 kilometres (218 miles) into the night sky. Equatorial Launch Australia CEO Michael Jones told AFP ahead of the lift-off, "It is a momentous occasion for us as a company in particular, but it's historic for Australia." Jones, whose company owns and operates the launch site in the far north of Australia, described it as a "coming out" party for the country's space industry and said the chance to work with NASA was a milestone for commercial space firms in the country. After a series of rain and wind delays, the suborbital-sounding rocket soared into the sky to study x-rays emanating from the Alpha Centauri A and B systems. After reaching its apogee, the rocket's payload was to capture data on the star systems before parachuting back to earth. According to NASA, the launch offers a unique glimpse of the distant systems and unlocked fresh possibilities for scientists. "We're excited to be able to launch important science missions from the Southern Hemisphere and see targets that we can't from the United States," Nicky Fox, NASA's Heliophysics Division director in Washington, said on announcing the mission. "I think for the team, it's gonna be, you know, a huge relief that it's done," he said. It is the first NASA rocket to launch from Australia since 1995, and the project was hailed as the start of a "new era" for the country's space industry by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. <p>An astronaut has come to our rescue. Chris Hadfield, a Canadian astronaut who is aboard the International Space Station (ISS) has shown everyone what happens when you wring a wet cloth in zero gravity.</p>

<p>The astronaut first takes a washcloth, packed to the size of a hockey puck. He takes the cloth out and wets it in water.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This may sound simple but how he does that in zero gravity is a thing to behold. Once the washcloth is wet with water, Hadfield proceeds to wring it.</p>

But in space, where there is no gravity, the water simply forms a tube around the cloth and continues to cling to it. Even the water that 'falls' on Hadfield's hands forms an enveloping film around it.</p>

Astronaut shows what happens when you wring wet cloth in space

<p>The night sky is a sparkle to start with. The countless stars are just there for us to unravel their mystery. But just sometimes, when we are in the mood for some dreamy stargazing, weather plays a spoilsport.</p>

<p>It was to overcome this limitation exactly that Hubble Space Telescope was put in orbit. It eliminates the weather factor completely.</p>

<p>Hubble has been sending us mesmerising images for years. Another image has joined the long list. The space telescope has clicked a crisp photo of a sparkling galaxy. NASA has shared the image on Instagram and other social media feeds.</p>

<p>NASA has urged Boston-based RR Auction to stop selling the moon dust that was obtained during the 1969 Apollo mission and fed to cockroaches in an experiment to see if it contained any pathogens that presented a hazard to terrestrial life. RR said that the experiment materials included three cockroaches’ carcasses with a vial containing 40 milligrammes of moon dust, which was supposed to fetch at least USD 400,000 at auction but has been removed. As reported by AP, a NASA lawyer in a letter to the auctioneer said that the material still belonged to the federal government.</p>

<p>More than 47 pounds (21.3 kilos) of lunar rock was returned to Earth during the mission. To see if it would kill them, some were fed to different types of animals.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Marion Brooks, an entomologist dissected and studied the fed cockroaches after they were sent to the University of Minnesota. Brook who passed away in 2007 in conversation with Minneapolis Tribune for a story in October 1969 said, “I found no evidence of infectious agents.” She further said that she didn’t discover any proof that the lunar material was harmful or had negative impacts.</p>

<p>As per NASA’s own admission, it was unaware of the earlier cockroach experiment item auction.</p>

<p>With just 29 seconds left on the clock for its rocket launch, NASA aborted a crucial test that would've been monumental in placing humans on the moon. Why did this happen? Let's find out.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per NASA, a hydrogen leak within the rocket was the reason behind this abrupt ending.</p>

<p>This was the fourth consecutive aborted attempt in the 'mega moon rocket' mission which is officially called the "Space Launch System (SLS)."</p>

<p>Fission systems are reliable and relatively small and lightweight in comparison to other power systems. These systems will have the capacity to enable continuous power regardless of location, available sunlight, and other natural environmental conditions, paving the way for long-duration missions on the Moon and even Mars.</p>

<p>NASA’s Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) has spotted a peculiarly-shaped cloud hovering over the largest inland body of water on the planet, the Caspian Sea.</p>

<p>In sharp contrast with the typical diffused and dispersed cloud cover, this particular cloud had well-defined edges resembling something from a cartoon or something painted onto the scenery.</p>

<p>The cloud, which resembles what can be called a white smudge of paint, is a small stratocumulus cloud according to Bastiaan van Diedenhoven, who is an atmospheric scientist at SRON Netherlands Institute for Space Research.</p>

<p>Usually found during good weather conditions, cumulus clouds are detached “heaps” of “cauliflower-shaped” clouds and form at low altitudes, generally between 600 and 2,000 metres.</p>

<p>Spanning a layer about 100 kilometres, the stratocumulus cloud in the picture is hovering at an altitude of about 1,500 metres.</p>

<p>The image of the cloud, which has gone viral on social media, has garnered hundreds of likes and has been shared multiple times.</p>

<p>“Sharp edges are often formed when dry, warm air coming from land collides with colder moist air over the ocean, and the cloud forms at that boundary. You often see this off the west coast of Africa but at much larger scales," said Diedenhoven.</p>

<p>He believes that the cloud drifted to the coast of Makhachkala from the Caspian Sea during the afternoon and dissipated when it reached land.</p>

<p>It comes after there were reports that cosmic cannibalism is taking place in space as a dead star is ripping apart its planetary system.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Using the archival data from the Hubble Space Telescope, NASA scientists have found that a White Dwarf star called G238-44 is responsible for the phenomenon which is happening for the first time.</p>

NASA to gradually shut Voyager probes as they drift away

<p>NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) has spotted a buzzing multiplanet system within our galactic neighbourhood about 33 light-years from Earth, making it one of the closest known multiplanet systems to our own.</p>

<p>At the heart of the system lies a small and cool M-dwarf star, named HD 260655, and astronomers have found that it hosts at least two terrestrial, Earth-sized planets.</p>

<p>However, the planets are likely not habitable, as their orbits are relatively tight, exposing the planets to temperatures that are too high to sustain liquid surface water, the astronomers from MIT who made the discovery said.</p>

<p>The inner plant orbits its star every 2.8 Earth days and is about 1.2 times the size of Earth and twice as massive. The other orbits every 5.7 Earth days and is 1.5 times the size of Earth and three times as massive. They have both been described considered "rocky."</p>

<p>Nevertheless, the latest discovery has caused excitement among the scientific community as it will help them understand what this neighbourhood looks like.</p>

<p>It will also give them a closer look at the properties of the planets and signs of any atmosphere they might hold.</p>

Scientists find multiplanet system that hosts two Earth-type planets just 33 light years away

<p>In the search for some form of microbial life on planet Mars, NASA's Perseverance Mars rover found human trash on the surface of the planet. During one of its scheduled inspections of the planet, the Mars rover spotted landing debris caught in a jagged rock.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Upon close examination, the trash was found to be a thermal material that the American space agency commonly uses in order to protect the Perseverance spacecraft from extreme temperatures when they have made their journey to Mars, plunging through the Martian atmosphere.</p>

The two have been together for around four months now and they seem to have become inseparable, said media reports. <p>At NASA headquarters in Washington, DC, Thomas Zurbuchen, associate administrator, Science Mission Directorate, said, "NASA believes that the tools of scientific discovery are powerful and apply here also." &nbsp;</p>

<p>During the National Academy of Sciences webcast, Zurbuchen added, "We are not shying away from reputational risk. Our strong belief is that the biggest challenge of these phenomena is that it's a data-poor field." &nbsp;</p>

<p>NASA head Bill Nelson said that he believes on accounts of UFOs. “We're taking this very seriously. I've talked to the Navy pilots that know that they saw something back in 2004. They tracked it on their radar off the Southern California coast, over the Pacific. Since then, hundreds of objects have been spotted and a couple of them were explained, they may be balloons, but most of them are unexplained. So I’ve asked NASA, and it will be announced within a few days, to approach this subject from a scientific standpoint, since we are a scientific research organisation. In about eight months, they’re going to report,” Nelson told a news briefing.</p>

Astra rocket shuts off after launch, NASA loses two hurricane monitoring satellites

<p>US space agency NASA is sending yeast to space to gauge the impact of electromagnetic radiation on DNA. Instrumental in winemaking, baking, and brewing since ancient times, sending the yeast variety "Saccharomyces cerevisiae" into space is a part of an experiment to see if humans can survive on the lunar surfaces.</p>

<p>Since human beings have a lot more in common with the yeast than you might think, scientists have placed two strains of brewer’s yeast into cartridges to fly on NASA’s upcoming BioSentinel mission, which is tentatively scheduled for later this year.</p>

<p>According to Sergio Santa Maria, lead project scientist on BioSentinel, “Just imagine yourself sitting in free space, and you’re being hit from every single direction all the time.”</p>

<p>NASA’s Artemis 1 mission, the first major leg of the space agency’s highly-anticipated return to the Moon, will also house BioSentinel in a CubeSat.</p>

<p>The cereal-box-sized satellite will detach from Artemis, which will last roughly three weeks, but BioSentinel will stay in space for much longer.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Saccharomyces cerevisiae", which will orbit the Sun, will be rehydrated and help the team to get accurate deep-space exposure readings.<br />

According to Sergio Santa Maria, lead project scientist on BioSentinel, “Just imagine yourself sitting in free space, and you’re being hit from every single direction all the time.” As replicating cosmic radiation in a laboratory is extremely hard, but it is a significant danger of space travel, researchers need to figure out a way how make longer trips in space possible without causing any damage to human bodies. “The problem with the solar protons is that there could be a lot of them, and they never stop,” according to Santa Maria. "Saccharomyces cerevisiae", which dates back to 3,150 BC to an ancient Egyptian wine jar, repairs DNA damage and is a fantastic stand-in for our cells according to NASA. NASA’s Artemis 1 mission, the first major leg of the space agency’s highly-anticipated return to the Moon, will also house BioSentinel in a CubeSat. The cereal-box-sized satellite will detach from Artemis, which will last roughly three weeks, but BioSentinel will stay in space for much longer.
