The T20 World Cup is nearing its commencement. The eighth edition of the marquee tournament will be held in Australia for the first time, from October-Novamber and will be played in the same format as the 2021 edition.

Aaron Finch-led Australia will not only be the hosts but also start as the defending champions after the Men in Yellow won their maiden T20 WC trophy last year, beating New Zealand in a one-sided Trans-Tasman battle in Dubai.

Ahead of the showpiece event Down Under, former Aussie captain and two-time ODI World Cup-winning skipper Ricky Ponting made a bold claim. "I think India and Australia will be the two playing in the final and I will just have to say that Australia will beat them in the final. The reigning champions have got home conditions and that was one thing that made Australia's win in the last World Cup, not remarkable, but that little bit sweeter for them," Ponting said on ICC Review.

India, Pakistan or England! Ricky Ponting names who Australia will meet in 2022 T20 World Cup final

Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh recently opened up on his initial struggles with the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Marsh played a key role for DC with the bat and the ball and almost helped the Rishabh Pant-led side qualify for the playoffs. However, it was not an easy start for the Aussie star as he had to battle an injury and COVID-19 before cementing his spot in the side.

Marsh joined the Delhi Capitals squad later than some of the other overseas players due to international duty with Australia. He was still recovering from a hip flexor injury when he joined the rest of the squad and had to miss the first few games. Marsh later tested positive for COVID-19 and his comeback was further delayed.

However, the Aussie all-rounder was quick to bounce back from the early hiccups and never looked back once he got going. Marsh played some important knocks for his side and looked in solid touch throughout the tournament.

He recently opened on his initial struggles in IPL 2022 and said he felt he was cursed when playing in India but enjoyed his time in the IPL 2022 once he returned to the squad after recovering from COVID-19.

"After my first couple of weeks there I thought that I was cursed in India," Marsh told reporters on Saturday.

"I got through my initial injury which was very minor but then to play one game and get COVID, it was a bit of a shaky start but once I got going it was nice to put a few consistent performances on the board. I absolutely loved my time there," he added.

Marsh is currently in Sri Lanka with the rest of the Australian squad for their upcoming series against the hosts. Australia are scheduled to play a full-fledged series consisting of 3 T20Is, 5 ODIs and 2 Tests. Marsh will be hoping to continue his fine form against Sri Lanka after scoring 251 runs and picking up 4 wickets for DC in IPL 2022.

'Thought I was cursed in India': Australian star Mitchell Marsh opens up on initial struggles in IPL 2022

Spinners Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav were inspirational in the middle overs even as Shardul Thakur complemented the duo with career-best IPL figures as Delhi Capitals inched closer towards play-off qualifications beating Punjab Kings by 17 runs in an IPL match on Monday.

Invited to bat, DC posted 159 for 7 courtesy Mitchell Marsh's 48-ball 63 and then restricted Punjab to 142 for 9. Thakur (4/36), Axar (2/14) and Kuldeep (2/14) shared eight wickets among them while Anrich Nortje got the important wicket of Jonny Bairstow.

It is between overs 6-14 where Delhi won the game as Kuldeep and Axar cumulatively gave away only 28 runs in seven overs with four wickets between them.

With this win, DC jumped a place to fourth with 14 points from 13 matches. Royal Challengers Bangalore (14 from 13 matches) have same points as DC but they were pushed down to fifth spot as they have -0.323 NRR compared +0.255 of Delhi.

Punjab, who remained at the seventh spot with 12 points from 13 matches, are virtually out of the reckoning for a play-offs berth as they also have a -0.043 net run rate.

Chasing 160 for a win, Punjab suffered a batting collapse after a good start. Jitesh Sharma (44 of 34 balls) and Rahul Chahar (25 not out off 24 balls) made a late fightback with a 41-run stand -- highest in their run chase -- for the eighth wicket but that proved to be too little too late.

Punjab began on a promising note with in-form Jonny Bairstow punishing Khaleel Ahmed and Nortje with fours and sixes to take his side to 27 for no loss at the end of third over.

But from there the collapse began as five Punjab batsmen gone back to the hut one after the other as they were reduced to for 5 at the end of the eighth over.

Bairstow (28 off 15 balls) fell to Nortje in the fourth over before a struggling Shrdul Thakur took two wickets -- that of Bhanuka Rajapaksa (4) and Shikhar Dhawan (19) -- in three balls in the sixth over to change the complexion of the game.

Punjab were 54 for 3 at the end of powerplay and three balls later Axar Patel claimed his 100th IPL wicket with a special one -- that of Punjab captain Mayank Agarwal's scalp. Mayank (0), who has been struggling this season, went for a cut to an arm ball but it went through the gap between bat and pad to crash into the middle stump.

There was no respite for Punjab as Liam Livingstone was out in the eighth over, stumped by Rishabh Pant for Kuldeep's first wicket. Kuldeep returned for his second over to dismiss Harpreet Bar (1) with him wrong-un beating the batter before going through the gate to crash into the stumps.

It was all over for Punjab by then as they were reduced to 68 for 6 at the halfway mark. Punjab needed 39 off the final three overs but David Warner pulled off a fine catch at long-off to dismiss Jitesh ending the game in favour of DC.

Earlier, Arshdeep Singh and Livingstone snared three wickets each as Punjab restricted Delhi to 159 for 7.
Marsh first added 51 runs with Sarfaraz Khan (32) and then another 47 runs with Lalit Yadav (24), after DC lost opener David Warner (0) off the first ball of the innings.

DC scored at a brisk pace after being asked to bat but they suffered a middle-order collapse, losing three quick wickets. It was Australian Marsh, who anchored the DC innings. He completed his fifty with a boundary in the 17th over. He hit four fours and three sixes but ran out of partners.

The move to open the bowling with Livingstone (3/27) worked as he removed Warner, who gave a sitter to Rahul Chahar at the backward point. Marsh and Sarfaraz then tried to steady the ship. Marsh hammered back-to-back sixes off pacer Kagiso Rabada (1/24), including one lofted shot as Delhi added 15 runs in the second over.

Sarfaraz was brutal on left-arm orthodox bowler Harpreet Brar (0/29), hammering him for a maximum, a slog sweep and two successive boundaries, as Delhi fetched 15 runs in the third over.

Sarfaraz hammered five boundaries and a six as Delhi raced to the 50-run mark in the fifth over. But Sarfaraz's cameo ended after he mistimed a lofted shot off Arshdeep Singh (3/37) with Chahar taking a running catch.

Then Marsh and Lalit mixed caution and aggression. At 86/2 after 10 overs, the stage was set for a big score.
But Punjab pegged back DC, by grabbing three quick wickets and reducing the opposition to 112/5.

First, Arshdeep used his slow bouncer to remove Lalit and then Livingstone sent back Rishabh Pant (7), who was stumped by Jitesh Sharma. Livingstone had his third wicket, when he removed Rovman Powell (2). Wickets kept tumbling for Delhi even as Punjab bowlers conceded 43 runs in the last five overs.

IPL 2022: Marsh, Shardul shine as Delhi Capitals beat Punjab Kings by 17 runs to enter top four

Match 64 of the IPL 2022 edition will be held between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai on Monday evening (May 16). The clash holds utmost significance in the league stage with regard to the remaining three playoffs spot.

Both Delhi and Punjab are tied at 12 points. With Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) very much certain to take the second or third spot and join Gujarat Titans (GT) in the playoffs, the fourth spot remains wide open. While Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have 14 points and are also close to confirming a berth, DC and PBKS are far from being out of the race. If the winner of Delhi-Punjab goes on to win their remaining game as well, they can move past RCB to take the fourth spot.

Talking about the last face-off between both teams, it saw a spirited show from Rishabh Pant & Co. They faced each other in match 32 whereas Kuldeep Yadav-Axar Patel's two scalps each rocked Punjab as they were bundled out for a paltry 115 after being asked to bat first. In reply, Prithvi Shaw and David Warmer (60 not out) propelled Delhi to a massive nine-wicket win.

PBKS vs DC, IPL 2022 today match prediction: Who will win Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals clash?

Riding on Mitchell Marsh's all-round heroics, Delhi Capitals got their act together in the nick of time to upstage Rajasthan Royals by eight wickets and keep their IPL playoffs hopes alive here on Wednesday.

After their bowlers restricted RR to 160 for six, Marsh's 62-ball 89 and David Warner's unbeaten 52 off 41 balls helped the Capitals complete the task with 11 balls to spare for their sixth win of the season that saw the team suffer setbacks both on and off the field, including multiple COVID-19 cases in its camp.

With the ball, Marsh had picked up the two important wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal (19) and Ravichandran Ashwin (50). Then, he smashed seven sixes and five fours to emerge as the night's hero.

DC lost Srikar Bharat in only the second ball of their innings to Trent Boult, who conceded just one run in the first over. That was followed by a maiden over by Prasidh Krishna and then the Kiwi speedster bowled another economical over as DC struggled to force the pace early on, reaching five for one in three overs.

The introduction of Ashwin saw Marsh launching the off-spinner over long-off for a six. Marsh did the same to Prasidh, hitting him for a maximum over fine-leg to give the much-needed impetus to the DC innings.

There was more to come from the willow of Marsh as he smashed Kuldeep Sen for two sixes and a similar treatment was given to Ashwin as the ball, despite Jos Buttler's effort in the deep, sailed over long-on for a maximum, bringing up the Australian all-rounder's fifty.

By the time the 143-run stand was broken by Yuzvendra Chahal with the wicket of Marsh, the match was almost in DC's bag. Earlier, striking at better than most of the top batters, premier off-spinner Ashwin recorded his first half-century in T20 cricket. Ashwin made a 38-ball 50, while Devdutt Padikkal struck 48 in 30 deliveries after RR were asked to bat first.

The Capitals were off to fine start as left-arm pacer Chetan Sakariya (2/23), playing the must-win game in place of Khaleel Ahmed, dismissed RR's top batter Jos Buttler (7) cheaply in the third over. Looking to play it over the infield, Buttler hit a fairly full-length delivery straight to Shardul Thakur.

With Buttler gone early, DC were on top and looked to assert their dominance at the DY Patel Sports Complex. They gave very little away and kept RR to 43 for one in the six power play overs. This was after DC skipper Rishabh Pant decided against a review despite a strong appeal by Sakariya for a caught behind in the first over. Replays confirmed that Pant was right in not opting for a review.

Coming off his blazing half-century in the previous game, Yashasvi Jaiswal produced a lovely on-drive off Anrich Nortje (2/39) and then smashed the South African pacer for a six over third man. Jaiswal (19) impressed again, but not for long as Mitchell Marsh (2/25) cramped him up for room with a bouncer, paving the way for the left-handed Devdutt Padikkal to join Ashwin in the middle.

Looking confident after having hitting a few boundaries, including two maximums and a ramp shot over keeper Pant, Ashwin went along nicely and brought up his half-century in 38 balls. However, the premier off-spinner got out soon after reaching the landmark with Marsh coming back into the attack to give DC the breakthrough.

Meanwhile, Padikkal smashed Axar Patel for two sixes -- one over deep backyard point and another over long-on -- as RR looked to force the pace. Padikkal then scored two successive fours off Marsh, even as Nortje had RR skipper Sanju Samson (6) caught by Shardul Thakur at mid-wicket.

As the DC players rejoiced, Kuldeep Yadav was seen walking off the ground holding his left shoulder, having hurt himself while going for a catch in the previous over.

Riyan Parag hit Nortje for a massive six before Sakariya cut short his brief stay in the middle, and Padikkal too followed suit, thanks to brilliant catch running by substitute fielder Kamlesh Nagarkoti.

Jaiswal (19) impressed again, but not for long as Mitchell Marsh (2/25) cramped him up for room with a bouncer, paving the way for the left-handed Devdutt Padikkal to join Ashwin in the middle. Also Read: Updated IPL 2022 points table after Delhi Capitals thrash Rajasthan Royals Looking confident after having hitting a few boundaries, including two maximums and a ramp shot over keeper Pant, Ashwin went along nicely and brought up his half-century in 38 balls.

IPL 2022: Mitchell Marsh's all-round heroics power Delhi Capitals to crucial 8-wicket win over RR

IPL 2022 has been a huge hit. Almost every game has gone down to the wire. With each passing day, the race for the playoffs is intensifying as all teams, sans Mumbai Indians (MI), are very much in contention for the last four spots. Amid this, Delhi Capitals (DC) take on a struggling Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in match 41 of the ongoing 15th season on Thursday evening (April 28).

Both teams have not had a great run in IPL 2022. Talking about the Rishabh Pant-led DC unit, they have been plagued with injuries, players' unavailabilities, Covid cases, and were hit by a no-ball controversy in their last encounter, versus Rajasthan Royals (RR). They are languishing at the seventh spot with three wins from seven games.

On the other hand, things haven't been smooth for the KKR franchise ever since they faced DC earlier this season. Prior to the DC clash, they had three wins from four games and have now lost four on the trot. Their bowling is an issue and many key players need to rise up and perform consistently (such as skipper Shreyas Iyer, Pat Cummins, Venkatesh Iyer, Aaron Finch, etc.).

Talking about the last time both sides faced each other, DC rode on openers David Warner and Prithvi Shaw's respective half-centuries to post 215-5. In reply, KKR were all-out for 171, losing by 44 runs. Kuldeep Yadav and Khaleel Ahmed did the job for Delhi with the ball in hand.

Match prediction for DC vs KKR clash: Given that both sides are in the bottom half, they will come hard against each other. Playing at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai has been a tricky affair for sides. Earlier, teams batting second were winning easily before chasing became difficult (although Gujarat Titans pulled off a hiest versus Sunrisers Hyderabad yesterday). DC will be hoping for Mitchell Marsh and Anrich Nortje's return. With their bowling being better than KKR at present, they have an edge. Above all, toss will remain crucial at the Wankhede.

Huge boost for Delhi Capitals as Mitchell Marsh, Tim Seifert rejoin camp after recovering from COVID-19

The IPL 2022 edition was dealt with a huge blow on Monday evening (April 18) after a string of Covid cases were found in the Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC) camp. IPL 2022: Delhi Capitals-Punjab Kings' tie shifted from Pune to Mumbai after Covid cases in Delhi camp

Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh was hospitalised after testing positive for COVID-19 in a second RTPCR test along with two support staff, causing fear and panic among rest of the Delhi Capitals squad here on Monday.

"Delhi Capitals all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has tested positive for COVID-19, following which he has been admitted to a hospital. The Delhi Capitals medical team is closely monitoring Marsh's condition," the IPL franchise said in a release issued late in the evening.

It is still not clear if Delhi Capitals' next game against Punjab Kings in Pune on Wednesday will be called off or not as the entire squad was put in room isolation for the day. The other two who have tested positive are team doctor Abhijit Salvi and the team masseur.

The RTPCR reports of all other players have returned negative. A few days back, team physio Patrick Farhart had tested positive for the virus, thus taking the total number of cases to four.

"A few more members from the Delhi Capitals bio-bubble, including support staff members, have returned positive tests as well. Though they are all asymptomatic, their condition is being monitored closely by the franchise," the release further stated.

"All remaining members of the bubble are currently in isolation in their respective rooms, and will be tested regularly."

During the day, Marsh had undergone two RT-PCR tests with the first one coming negative and the subsequent testing returning positive. This was after Marsh complained of sore throat and mild fever.

"Mitchell Marsh's RTPCR first report has come negative. However, the second RT-PCR report turned out to be positive. All other playing members have negative in RT-PCR tests. There is no threat to Wednesday's match between DC and PBKS," a senior BCCI official told PTI on Monday.

It is understood that the Australian all-rounder showed some symptoms and a Rapid Antigen Test was performed which came positive. It could have been due to the fact that he was undergoing rehab under Farhart and picked up mild symptoms which didn't turn out to be alarming. Salvi also seemed to have tested positive because of his proximity to Farhart and Marsh.

"DC were supposed to travel to Pune today but the entire squad members have been told to retire to their respective rooms and as per protocol RT PCR is being done to ascertain whether there is an outbreak in the camp or it is an isolated case like Patrick Farhart," a BCCI source had earlier said.

With all other players testing negative, the match is likely to go on as scheduled but the team will only travel after another round of RT-PCR test on Tuesday.

"All teams are staying at Conrad Hotel in Pune where BCCI has created a bio-bubble. They were supposed to travel but now it has been delayed. Obviously all those whose results would be negative would carry on with onward journey tomorrow," the source said.

As per the BCCI's testing protocols, every member of an IPL squad in a team bubble is tested every fifth day unlike last season when it was done every third day. However, if the franchise on its own wants the members to be tested, they are more than welcome.

The development comes after team physio Farhart tested positive last week. "We were supposed to leave today but have been told to stay in room until further notice," said a team source.

With COVID cases rising outside the IPL bio-bubble, the virus threat inside the controlled environment has also increased. Last season, the tournament had to be suspended midway due to the second wave. It was resumed and completed in the UAE in September-October.

In a huge scare for the ongoing 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), five positive COVID-19 cases have reportedly been detected in the Delhi Capitals (DC) camp. All teams including DC are currently staying in a bio-bubble in Maharashtra which is hosting the entire league stage of IPL 2022 with the matches being played across three venues in Mumbai and Pune.

Marsh had tested positive for COVID-19 after a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) on Monday. The Australian all-rounder is now likely to be hospitalised after catching the virus while more cases have also emerged in DC's camp. As per a report in India Today, Marsh will be hospitalised after returning a CT value of 17 in his positive test. The report further claims that apart from the Australian cricketer, a team doctor, one member of the social media team, and three members of the hotel staff who were on DC duty have tested positive for COVID-19.

Earlier, Delhi Capitals' physio Patrick Farhat had also tested positive for the virus and is still in quarantine. The reports of Marsh testing positive had emerged earlier on Monday (April 18) with DC also delaying their travel to Pune for their next game against Punjab Kings on Wednesday.

IPL 2022: Mitchell Marsh to be hospitalised, 5 COVID-19 cases detected in Delhi Capitals camp - Report

Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has tested negative in his mandatory RT-PCR test after returning a positive Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), meaning the IPL match between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings on Wednesday will go on as scheduled.

It can also be confirmed that save physio Patrick Farhart, who is already in isolation after testing positive, all the other RT-PCR reports have turned out to be negative.

"Mitchell Marsh's RT-PCR report has come negative. RT-PCR report is supposed to be conclusive evidence and all other members have also tested negative in RT-PCR tests. There is no threat to Wednesday's match between DC and PBKS," a senior BCCI official told PTI on Monday.

IPL 2022: Delhi Capitals vs Punjab Kings back on track as Mitchell Marsh tests negative for COVID-19

It was a difficult outing for Mitchell Marsh in his debut for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 as he could manage just 14 runs in 24 balls. The Australia international looked completely out of form and he ended up facing 11 dot balls to put his own team under pressure.

Former Indian cricket team opener Krishnamachari Srikkanth, who was a part of the 1983 World Cup winning side, was not happy with Marsh’s performance at all and said that he should have just ‘retired out’ like Ravichandran Ashwin did earlier in the season for Rajasthan Royals.

"Come on Mitch, you should have thought out or just said retired out. That's the best way out, like what Ashwin did, because you had a deep batting order and by the time the run rate had climbed up to 13-14 runs per over, Rishabh Pant tried desperately, but the villain for me is Mitch Marsh," Srikkanth told Crichunt Youtube channel.

The required run rate kept creeping up as Marsh was unable to score quickly and although Rishabh Pant played a couple of shots towards the end, DC slumped to a defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday.

"Frankly speaking, they were off to a good start and David Warner was very brilliant and, because of the pressure created by Mitch Marsh, Warner got out and Pant had to go after every ball and he also got out," he added.

IPL 2022: Injured Mitchell Marsh set to join Delhi Capitals after missing out on white-ball leg vs Pakistan

Delhi Capitals (DC) have been handed a huge blow amid their ongoing campaign in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 as Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh's participation in the tournament is in doubt after an injury. Marsh has pulled out of Australia's upcoming limited-overs series against Pakistan due to a hip injury.

Marsh was part of the Australian squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series and the one-off T20I against Pakistan. However, the all-rounder will now miss the entire leg. The timing of his injury has also raised concerns over his participation in the ongoing IPL 2022.

The Aussie all-rounder was roped in by Delhi Capitals for a sum of Rs 6.5 crore (INR 65 million) at the mega auction last month and was expected to play a key role for the franchise this season. However, his injury has added to Delhi Capitals' woes in the ongoing season.

Delhi Capitals were already set to miss the services of both David Warner and Marsh for the first couple of weeks due to Australia's tour of Pakistan. However, an injury to Marsh can now force the all-rounder to miss the entire season for DC. In case Marsh is ruled out from the entire IPL 2022, it will be a big blow for DC, who already lack quality all-rounders in their squad.

In their opening game against Mumbai Indians on Sunday, Delhi Capitals played only two overseas stars in their XI due to the unavailability of the players. While South African pacer Anrich Nortje is not yet fully fit to feature in the tournament, pacers Lungi Ngidi and Mustafizur Rahman recently joined the squad after the conclusion of Bangladesh's ODI series against South Africa.

Delhi Capitals will be hoping for Marsh to recover in time and be available for selection as soon as possible. However, if the Australian all-rounder fails to recover in time, this will be the third successive IPL season he will not be playing for his side. Marsh had injured his ankle while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in their first game in IPL 2020 and was ruled out for the entire season.

He missed the tournament last year citing bio-bubble fatigue and is now in line to miss his third straight IPL season.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction went quite well for the Delhi based franchise as they look at a future beyond the likes of Shreyas Iyer and Shikhar Dhawan. For Delhi Capitals (DC), Iyer and Dhawan were key players in the past seasons inspiring the team to enter the final in IPL 2020. However, the trophy has eluded the team so far. Aiming to win their maiden trophy, DC have done a massive reshuffling to the existing team as they have added some quality players to build a core team around the retained cricketers. Ahead of the IPL mega auction, the JSW and GMR co-owned franchise had retained Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Prithvi Shaw and Anrich Nortje. One of the highlight purchases was Australian swashbuckling batter David Warner as prodigal son returns to Delhi Capitals. Warner, who won the man of the series award at the T20 World Cup in 2021, was part of the Delhi team when he had started his IPL career with Delhi Daredevils in 2008. He later moved to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and emerged as an integral part of the team, however, he was last year dropped and was stripped of the captaincy. Another top buy for DC is Australian player Mitchell Marsh, who was also a key player during Australia's 2021 T20 World Cup-winning run. Warner and Marsh were acquired for Rs 6.25 crore and 6.50 crore respectively. Meanwhile, India's Shardul Thakur became the franchise's most expensive buy at the auction for Rs 10.75 crore. DC also acquired the services of the Indian left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav and Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman for Rs 2 crore each. They also bought domestic talents: Ashwin Hebbar (Rs 20 lakh), Sarfaraz Khan (Rs 20 lakh) Kamlesh Nagarkoti (1.10 crore) and KS Bharat (2 crore). In the pace department, DC have Khaleel Ahmed, Chetan Sakariya, Lungi Ngidi. Delhi Capitals have also bought U-19 World Cup-winning skipper Yash Dhull for Rs 50 lakhs. After the mega auction, here's how Delhi Capitals stack up: Retained players: Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Prithvi Shaw and Anrich Nortje. Players acquired during the auction: Batters: David Warner (Rs 6.25 cr), Ashwin Hebbar (Rs 0.20 cr), Sarfaraz Khan (Rs 0.20 cr), KS Bharat (Rs 2 cr), Mandeep Singh (Rs 1.10 cr), Rovman Powell (Rs 2.80 cr), Tim Seifert (Rs 0.50 cr) All-rounders: Mitchell Marsh (Rs 6.50 cr), Shardul Thakur (Rs 10.75 cr), Kamlesh Nagarkoti (Rs 1.1 cr), Lalit Yadav (Rs 0.65 cr), Ripal Patel (Rs 0.20 cr), Yash Dhull (Rs 0.50 cr), Praveen Dubey (Rs 0.50 cr), Vicky Ostwal (Rs 0.20 cr) Bowlers: Mustafizur Rahman (Rs 2 cr), Kuldeep Yadav (Rs 2 cr), Khaleel Ahmed (Rs 5.25 cr), Chetan Sakariya (Rs 4.2 cr) Delhi Capitals' assistant coach Pravin Amre said that the plan was to get an "explosive batsman" on top. He said, "We got David Warner, who won the man of the series award at the T20 World Cup in 2021." He added, "We are also very happy to get a good all-rounder in Mitch Marsh. Shardul Thakur has been playing for India in all three formats and was part of India's winning team last year in Australia. Hence, as a franchise, we backed him. We are also happy to get good buys Kuldeep and Mustafizur under our budget."

Prodigal son returns to Delhi Capitals: Complete squad of DC for IPL 2022 with Warner, Marsh, Shardul in camp

As the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction approaches, the IPL franchises have been busy keeping their fans engaged with some interesting posts on social media. Rajasthan Royals (RR), who are quite popular for their witty post on social media, came up with a hilarious tweet for their fans on Monday (February 07).

Rajasthan Royals shared some of the most hilarious requests and suggestions they have received from their fans ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. The franchise termed the post 'honest auction requests' which had screenshots of messages from fans requesting the team to buy their favourite players.

A fan came up with a unique suggestion as he asked the Royals to go for Australian opener David Warner at the mega auction, not for his cricketing skills and credentials but his entertaining reels on Instagram. Warner is quite popular among Indian fans for his reels on Indian movies and songs. "Warner ko please lena, reels mast banata hai (Please take Warner, he makes good reels)," the fan had messaged the Royals.

"Mujhe le lo bhai mein sirf 15% equity lunga (Take me brother, I will take only 15% equity in return)," wrote another. Another fan came up with an even funnier request as he warned that franchise that he will unfollow them on social media if they didn't buy Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh at the mega auction this year.

"Admin tereko unfollow kardunga agar Mitchell Marsh ko nahi liya (I will unfollow you admin if you don't buy Mitchell Marsh)," the fan wrote. Fans were left in splits on Twitter as Royals shared the screenshots of the hilarious requests and suggestions.

While Stokes has pulled out of IPL 2022, Archer has enlisted his name for the mega auction but will not play in IPL 2022. He will return to action from the 2023 season due to his ongoing recovery from an injury.

No Team India player made the cut in ICC Men's T20I team of 2021. The International Cricket Council (ICC), on Wednesday (January 19), announced the elite XI with Babar Azam named captain. Babar, who led Pakistan to the semi-finals of the 2021 T20 World Cup, has two more Men in Green players in the star-studded list.

Babar's opening partner and wicketkeeper Md Rizwan and Shaheen Afridi were a part of the list. Rizwan had a dream run in 2021 in the shortest format, ending with 1,326 runs in 29 matches with his skipper Babar being a distant second (with 939 runs). Shaheen, on the other hand, was impressive throughout the calendar year and ended with 23 wickets. He was also the Player-of-the-Match in Pakistan's first-ever victory over India in a World Cup clash (during the T20 WC).

Some other big names in the list are England's Jos Buttler (only centurion in the T20 WC), Mitchell Marsh -- who was the Player-of-the-Match in the World Cup final last year, Sri Lanka's find Wanindu Hasaranga, South African trio Aiden Markram, David Miller and Tabriaz Shami (who was also the joint-highest wicket taker in the format in 2021). Shamsi returned with a whopping 36 scalps, along with SL's Hasaranga.

The other players in the list are Bangladesh's Mustafizur Rahman (28 wickets in 2021) and Australia's pacer Josh Hazlewood. The latter played a key role in Aaron Finch-led Australia's maiden T20 WC win, finishing with 11 scalps in 7 games at an average of 15.91.

No Team India player made the cut in the elusive list shared by the ICC. None of the Indian batter or bowler managed to finish in the top-ten, for most runs and wickets, respectively. Team India also had a forgettable 2021 in T20Is, being eliminated in the Super 12 round in the World Cup. Though Rohit Sharma did manage some good performances and ended with 424 runs, he wasn't impressive enough to enter the list.

Other big names such as David Warner, Glenn Maxwell, Kagiso Rabada, Quinton de Kock, Nicholas Pooran, Shakib Al Hasan, etc. also didn't feature in the XI.

ALSO READ | 'What are you doing' - Rizwan recalls hilarious chat with Kohli during high-voltage Indo-Pak T20 WC tie Some other big names in the list are England's Jos Buttler (only centurion in the T20 WC), Mitchell Marsh -- who was the Player-of-the-Match in the World Cup final last year, Sri Lanka's find Wanindu Hasaranga, South African trio Aiden Markram, David Miller and Tabriaz Shami (who was also the joint-highest wicket taker in the format in 2021). ALSO READ | Rohit Sharma falls to sixth, Virat Kohli climbs to seventh spot in ICC Test Rankings No Team India player made the cut in the elusive list shared by the ICC. ICC Men's T20I Team of the Year for 2021 Babar Azan (captain), Jos Buttler, Mohammad Rizwan, Aiden Markram, Mitchell Marsh, David Miller, Tabraiz Shamsi, Josh Hazlewood, Wanidu Hasaranga, Mustafizur Rahman, Shaheen Afridi

ICC Men's T20I team of 2021: Babar Azam leads star-studded XI, no Team India player makes the cut

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday announced Jos Buttler, Wanindu Hasaranga, Mitchell Marsh and Mohammad Rizwan as the four nominees for the Men's T20 Cricket of the Year Award.

The ICC Awards 2021 will recognise the outstanding achievements and feats in cricket over the past year.

Pakistan wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Rizwan ruled the roost in 2021 when it came to the shortest format of the game. Aggregating a staggering 1,326 runs in only 29 matches, Rizwan struck at an average of 73.66 and a strike rate of 134.89.

Apart from his exploits with the bat, he was as solid as ever behind the stumps, playing a key role in Pakistan's run to the semis during the ICC Men`s T20 World Cup 2021, where he ended up as the third-highest run-scorer.

Coming to the Sri Lankan cricketer, it was a breakthrough year for Wanindu Hasaranga, who established himself as one of the best spinners in the shortest format while also being a player who could contribute with the bat.

A consistent performer throughout the year, Hasaranga's star shone the brightest during the T20 World Cup in UAE and Oman.

He ended the tournament as the leading wicket-taker with 16 scalps and also played some handy knocks with the bat, like his 71 against Ireland. He was a constant menace for the opposition as Sri Lanka impressed one and all during the tournament with their young and energetic side.

Australia's success at the T20 World Cup can be traced back to the decision to move Mitchell Marsh up the batting order to No.3, instead of designating him the role of being a finisher lower down.

Throughout the calendar year, he was their best batter in the shortest format, improving his game by leaps and bounds, especially against spin and when it came to rotating the strike.

He was the silver lining in Australia's poor showings in West Indies and Bangladesh batting higher up the order. Heading into the tournament in UAE and Oman, he was in supreme confidence after his good displays and improved fitness.

This led to a fruitful tournament as he aggregated 185 runs in 6 matches at an average of 61.66 and a healthy strike rate of 146.82. He would reserve the best for the last, playing a match-winning knock in the final against New Zealand.

England wicket-keeper Jos Buttler started the year brilliantly with two blistering knocks against India away from home. He would continue this run in the subsequent series against Sri Lanka and Pakistan, despite not playing all the matches. This boded well for England as their key batter was in sublime touch heading into the T20 World Cup.

He did not disappoint in the tournament, always getting his side off to brilliant starts. His two best knocks came in consecutive matches - first against age-old rivals Australia and then against Sri Lanka who faced his full wrath.

He ended the tournament as England`s leading run-scorer with 269 runs, as their run would be ended by New Zealand in the semi-finals in a nail-biting thriller.

Australia captain Aaron Finch believes that pace all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has been a huge asset for them. He added that Marsh coming at number three and playing an aggressive role with the bat has been very pleasing for him apart from putting in the effort with the ball.

Marsh has been a vital cog at number three for Australia's top order this year. He is also the seventh highest run-getter in T20Is this year, scoring 522 runs in 18 innings at an average of 32.62 and strike rate of 127. In Australias last Super 12 match, which they won by seven wickets against West Indies, Marsh scored 53 off just 32 balls.

"In terms of Mitchell Marsh, he's been excellent for us. His ability to bat at No. 3 and be really aggressive and take the game on has been really pleasing. The overs that he bowled the other day against a really dominating West Indies batting lineup were really crucial in dragging that score down to 160. He's someone who works hard on his bowling, and yeah, he's a huge asset for our team," said Finch while responding to a query from IANS in the pre-match press conference ahead of the semi-final against Pakistan in ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

Finch opined that he was never worried about his opening partner David Warner's form. Before the start of the tournament, Warner's form was a worry with scores in single digits, including two ducks. But now Warner had scored 187 runs in five matches, averaging 46.75 and strike rate of 144.96 with fifties against Sri Lanka and West Indies in Super 12.

"I was never worried one bit about Dave's form. He's one of the all-time great batsmen of our era. I think you can look at it as though he had a really lean IPL and then the start of this tournament. But the two halves of the IPL were a long way apart. So, if you miss out a couple of times at the end of the first part, which was in India, and then the first couple of games in Dubai, it looks as though a run of form is a pattern there. But I certainly wasn't worried. He's all class, trained hard, mentally fresh and ready to go. It`s great to see the best of him fit and firing. It`s a great sight when he`s up and about and scoring runs for Australia."

Finch felt that momentum is something which doesn't carry forward in a tournament like this. "I don't think that momentum is something that really goes over -- in a tournament like this, I don't think it carries over a huge amount because you're playing a totally different opposition, in different conditions. It's going to be a different wicket again. I don't think you can read too much into anything like that. One thing that -- all you can control is your process and your planning, and we've been doing that really well. We've got confidence in that. Pakistan are playing really good cricket, so it'll be a great test."

Finch was of the opinion that this could probably be the last time Australia may have a single head coach across all formats, with COVID-19 bringing the possibility of red and white-ball matches crossing over at the same time. "I think there will probably be a little bit of a crossover of formats again like we saw what was planned with the South Africa and New Zealand series. I think that down the track that that's something -- if they keep crossing over that, that'll have to be thought out, but as it stands at the moment, I think it's going okay."

"There might be some questions once those tours start to become really condensed and back up with each other, that support staff, players, coaches, team managers, physios, everyone will need a bit of a chop-out, and to be able to get out of these bubbles that we're in at the moment. I think, just over the next two or three months that'll probably be a little bit clearer."

The 42-year-old Gayle smashed two sixes before chopping a delivery from Pat Cummins on to his stumps as he walked back with his bat raised and a standing ovation from his players in Abu Dhabi. Gayle has not yet announced his retirement but is unlikely that he will play for the West Indies who have failed to defend their title this edition. Gayle, a left-hand batsman who can bowl off spin, has amassed over 12,000 runs including 27 centuries in white-ball cricket since he made his debut in a one-day international in 1999. Sunrisers Hyderabad sign Jason Roy as Mitchell Marsh pulls out of IPL 2021

Mitchell Marsh marked his return to the world stage by leading Australia to a five-wicket consolation win over England at Southampton on Tuesday as they regained top spot in the global Twenty20 rankings from their arch-rivals.

Australia were cruising to a modest target of 146 at 70-1 even though they had rested dynamic opener David Warner in one of three changes to their side.

But they lost three wickets for 17 runs to be 87-4 before Marsh (39 not out) and Ashton Agar (16 not out) saw Australia to victory with three balls to spare.

"Six months is a long time without cricket so it's great to get the opportunity today," player-of-the-match Marsh told Sky Sports.

"It's nice to finish off the series and nice to contribute.

"I would've liked my first game back to be a bit easier than that... I certainly looked up to make sure (Adil) Rashid had bowled out and I do like pace on the ball."

England, however, still won the three-match series 2-1.

- 'Got us over the line' -

"The first couple of games, we played such good cricket for a lot of it and didn't finish it off," Australia captain Aaron Finch told Sky Sports. "But tonight Mitch and Ash got us over the line."

Australia's slump started when Marcus Stoinis holed out off Tom Curran before dangerman Glenn Maxwell fell for six when he reverse-swept leg-spinner Rashid to short third man.

Rashid, who should have dismissed Finch for 27 only for wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow to drop a skyed chance, then bowled the Australia captain for 39 with a superb googly.

And with the last ball of his spell, Rashid caught and bowled star batsman Steve Smith to finish with excellent figures of 3-21 from his four overs.

Australia were now 100-5, needing 46 more to win off the last seven overs.

But the recalled Marsh, in his first competitive match for Australia since a one-day international in March, settled their nerves with a six and a four in a 16th over from fast bowler Mark Wood that cost 14 runs.

When Agar drove Curran down the ground for four, Australia needed just one off the last over, bowled by Chris Jordan.

Marsh, however, could not score off the first two balls.

But the third saw him run the decisive single, although he would have been out if Joe Denly had hit the stumps with his throw from mid-off.

Earlier, Mitchell Starc led a disciplined bowling display as Australia held a revamped England to 145-6.

Fast bowler Starc took 1-20, with leg-spinner Adam Zampa returning fine figures of 2-34.

Jonny Bairstow, with 55, was the only England batsman to pass 30.

But England were without captain Eoin Morgan (dislocated finger) and fellow star batsman Jos Buttler, absent for personal reasons after making a match-winning 77 not out in a six-wicket victory on Sunday.

They were also missing opener Jason Roy (side injury) and star all-rounder Ben Stokes, with his ill father in New Zealand, for the whole of this series.

But stand-in skipper Moeen Ali was grateful to have captained his country for the first time.

"It was a very proud moment and an amazing experience, sadly we didn't win but I thought we showed good fight in the end," he said. "Generally in the field we weren't great and we didn't back the bowlers up as we would have liked."

Bairstow, who struggled early on, struck left-arm spinner Ashton Agar and Zampa for two huge sixes.

He completed a 41-ball fifty with a superb straight six off Zampa.

However, Bairstow was out soon afterwards when caught and bowled after mistiming a pull off Agar.

England, the 50-over world champions, and Australia now head north to Manchester for a three-match one-day international series starting on Friday.

It will be the first time they have played an ODI since England beat Australia in the semi-finals of last year's World Cup.

Marsh stars as Australia regain top spot in T20 rankings from England

There were some shocking exclusions from Cricket Australia’s list of 20 nationally contracted players on Thursday as the likes of Marcus Stoinis, Peter Handscomb, Usman Khawaja, among others were missing from the core group of Australian players. While all-rounder Mitchell Marsh found his way back to the centrally contracted players’ list, his elder brother Shaun was axed from the list.

The Australian national selectors picked a group of players loaded with limited-overs talent in a bid to reflect on Australia’s forthcoming schedule including the ICC T20 World Cup, scheduled to be played in October-November.

"With many of the squad crossing into all three formats it gives us the benefit of being able to add in specialists depending on the opposition and the conditions," chief selector Trevor Hohns said in a statement.

"The depth of this squad and the success of the past 12 months gives us that solid base."

The likes of Nathan Coulter-Nile and Marcus Harris were also missing from Australia’s centrally contracted players’ list.

"As is always the case there are unlucky omissions but, however, because you are not on the list does not mean you cannot be selected to represent Australia," Hohns said.

Australia’s young maestro Marnus Labuschagne was among the new faces along with Joe Burns, Ashton Agar, Kane Richardson and Matthew Wade with Hohns heaping praise on all of the latest inductees.

"Marnus's rise has been meteoric and well documented," Hohns said.

Big Bash League: Mitchell Marsh's 93 off 41 help Perth Scorchers beat Brisbane Heat

After taking four wickets on day one of the fifth and final Ashes Test, Australian pacer Mitchell Marsh revealed that many people back home hate him for not cementing a place in the side after being given so many chances by the team management.

"Yeah, most of Australia hates me. Australians are very passionate, they love their cricket, they want people to do well. There is no doubt I have had a lot of opportunity at Test level and I have not quite nailed it, but hopefully they can respect me for the fact I keep coming back and I love playing for Australia, I love the baggy green cap and I will keep trying and hopefully I will win them over one day," ESPN Cricinfo quoted Marsh as saying.

Making a return to the Aussie Test side after almost a year, Marsh was exceptional with the ball in hand, as he got the key breakthroughs of Ben Stokes, Jonny Bairstow, Sam Curran, and Chris Woakes. It was through his spell that Australia was able to come back into the match.

Marsh was named the team vice-captain ahead of the 2018/19 season but he had a poor series against Pakistan in UAE and he was not able to produce good results against India in December last year, as a result, he was dropped from the side.

The all-rounder revealed that he was battling with personal issues and as a result, it took a toll on him and he was unable to contribute to the side.

"I was not making runs, if you bat No. 4 for Australia you need to make runs. Last year was a range of stuff, a few things in my personal life. I lost a close friend to suicide at the start of the summer and when things like that happen, I did not handle it as well as I could have and that transitioned into my cricket at times as well. I understand everyone goes through tough periods in their life but I certainly did not handle it as best I could," Marsh said.

Marsh is playing in his first Test of the ongoing series and he said he wants to be a positive influence on the side even if he does not get opportunities in the playing XI.

"I wanted to come here and have a positive influence on this group, I think I have done that running the drinks and I just waited for my opportunity. I do not necessarily eat that bad, I am just a big eater, so I probably cut down my portion sizes a fair bit. There is no secret coach Justin Langer has certainly challenged me from a fitness perspective, he wanted me to get fitter and stronger and over the last six months I have put everything I have had into it," Marsh said.

The 27-year-old revealed that he was given a pep talk by the coach Langer to give his all with the ball in hand.

"I think in the past my role as a bowler has been to hold an end. JL came up to me before the start of play and at lunchtime and he just said 'go for it, attack, bowl the way you want to bowl', and I was a little bit, not shocked, but it gave me the confidence to go out there and give it everything I had," Marsh said.

"Maybe a change of mentality allowed me to bowl a bit more attacking as a player and it was fun. I want to be the best I can be at both batting and bowling, I don't really want to pigeonhole one of them. No doubt as an allrounder at times you certainly hit them better than you're bowling or vice versa but that's just something that happens in cricket I guess as an allrounder. I want to be the best allrounder I can be in both facets of the game," he added.

England ended day one of the fifth and final Test in the ongoing Ashes at the score of 271/8 here at the Oval.

After being put in to bat, the team kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and only Joe Root and Jos Buttler have been able to go past the 50-run mark.

Root was dismissed for 57 whereas Buttler is unbeaten on 64.

Most of the Australians hate me, says Mitchell Marsh

Australia have called in wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Wade and all-rounder Mitchell Marsh as cover for their injured duo of Usman Khawaja and Marcus Stoinis ahead of Thursday's Cricket World Cup semi-final against hosts England.

Number three batsman Khawaja retired with a hamstring injury in Saturday's defeat to South Africa and though he returned to bat later in the innings, he clearly looked in pain and may miss the rest of the tournament.

All-rounder Stoinis has been battling a nagging side strain for a while and was due to have a scan on Sunday to determine the extent of the injury.

"It doesn't look ideal for Usman," captain Aaron Finch said after Saturday's loss.

"He'll have a scan tomorrow and if we need a replacement -- and I think we will -- but until you get the definitive scan it's hard to know.

"But it's not looking great for him, in all honesty. He's done a couple of hamstrings before and he said it feels a bit similar."

Both Wade and Marsh were part of the Australia A squad who begin their four-day clash with Sussex in Arundel on Sunday.

The duo had left for Birmingham to join the Australia squad, http://www.cricket.com.au reported.

Australia had earlier drafted in batsman Peter Handscomb for the injured Shaun Marsh.

Skipper Aaron Finch said Mitchell Marsh, who is on standby and has started training, would be ready if he is included into the official squad.

"Yeah, that's why he's here ... But as a bit of a precaution more than anything, if Stoinis doesn't recover well enough over the next couple of days," Finch was quoted as saying by Sydney Morning Herald.

"There is confidence that Mitch will come in and do well if selected if Stoinis doesn't recover properly," he added.

Finch admitted that injury to an all-rounder upsets the balance of a side.

"Yeah, it's tough when guys, especially all-rounders who balance out your side really well and give you that extra fast-bowling option, as well as a top-six batter, (are out). So it's a little bit difficult trying to decide whether you go the extra batter or the extra bowler, depending on conditions," Finch said.

"So I think it does make it a little bit tougher, a bit more of a challenge, no doubt. But we also did plan for that, if it did happen throughout the tournament. So it wasn't a total surprise. Obviously, it's not ideal, but it's not a surprise to us because we had already thought about things like that. But just game to game, it totally changes depending on the conditions," he added.

Throwback to ICC Cricket World Cup 2015: Starc emerges as Australia rules

Australia Thursday drafted Perth Scorchers batsman Ashton Turner as cover for Mitchell Marsh who was ruled out of the first one-day international against India in Sydney with a gastro bug.

All-rounder Marsh has spent two days in the hospital with his availability for the other two games in the series - in Adelaide and Melbourne - under a cloud.

"We'll see how he goes, but he certainly won't (play) this first game and we will wait and see how he recovers," said coach Justin Langer ahead of the opening clash on Saturday.

It is another blow for Marsh who on Wednesday was axed from the Test squad to play Sri Lanka, along with his brother Shaun.

Turner, who plays state cricket with Western Australia and for the Scorchers in Twenty20, has scored 43 not out, 47 and 60 not out in his past three Big Bash League matches.

Revised squad:

Aaron Finch (capt), Usman Khawaja, Shaun Marsh, Peter Handscomb, Glenn Maxwell, Ashton Turner, Marcus Stoinis, Mitch Marsh, Alex Carey, Jhye Richardson, Billy Stanlake, Jason Behrendorff, Peter Siddle, Nathan Lyon, Adam Zampa.
