Australian chief selector has locked in Travis Head’s batting position as the batter is all set to return to the side for the Netherlands clash on Wednesday (Oct 25) in Delhi. Head, who fractured his hand during the away ODIs against South Africa earlier, will land in India this weekend to join the Australian World Cup squad.

Head decided against surgery that would have taken another 10 weeks to recover. Upon healing from the broken left hand, Head received the fitness clearance certificate from the doctors and will now fly to India for the remainder of the tournament.

Speaking with the media, Bailey acknowledged Travis’ return to the side, admitting Head would bat at his usual position at the top of the order, replacing Marsh.&nbsp;

The lanky all-rounder, who scored a hundred against Pakistan in Bengaluru on his birthday, would now be demoted to number three, while Steve Smith to play at four.

"Clearly, he (Travis Head) comes in at the top," Bailey said. "He's been fantastic there for us, and that's where he'll slot in. And then we'll just work out (the Playing XI) when it is, who we're playing, the surface and what you might need."

Bailey informed everyone about Head’s heading process, saying that given the nature of the injury, it would have taken around six to eight weeks. But Travis recovered before time, and upon ticking all the boxes, he will now return to the contention for selection.

"It can be a six to eight-week injury. He's ticked all the boxes in terms of the four-week scan, and the bone has healed, so that's all going well, and he's progressed really well through the week (since he started batting).

"But clearly the whole point of having him (in the WC squad) and carrying him to this point is not to then risk it by bringing him back early. So if it works out for that Dutch game, great. If it's a little bit further on, then that's okay," Bailey said.

<h2>Australia bash Pakistan</h2>

David Warner came off well with the bat in Bengaluru, smashing his first hundred of this World Cup. Marsh also hit his maiden CWC 2023 ton as Australia posted a mammoth 367 for nine.

Pakistan started well, with openers adding 134 for the first wicket, but none could stand tall as they fell shy of the target by 62 runs. Adam Zampa starred for them, picking four wickets, while Captain Cummins and Stoinis returned with two wickets each.

World Cup: Chief selector George Bailey lays plans for Travis Head as Aussie batter set for anticipated return

Pakistan have locked horns with Australia in match 18 of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 edition on Friday (Oct 20) at the M Chidambaram Stadium in south Indian city of Bengaluru. Winning the toss, Babar Azam &amp; Co. opted to bowl first and were taken to the cleaners by Aussie openers David Warner and Mitchell Marsh as the duo broke a plethora of records during their record 259-run opening stand. Marsh and Warner were at their attacking best from the powerplays and never allowed the Pakistani bowlers to settle on a batting-friendly pitch.&nbsp;

As a result, the two stitched the highest opening stand for Australia in ODI World Cup history. The pair surpassed&nbsp;Shane Watson and Brad Haddin's 183-run first-wicket stand against Canada at the same venue in 2011. In addition, this is the highest partnership against Pakistan for any wicket in ODI World Cup history. Moreover, this is the second-highest opening partnership ever in the tournament history, with Upul Tharanga-Tillakaratne Dilshan's 282 remaining the highest (during the 2011 edition).

Overall, this is Australia's third-highest opening stand in the ODI format.

Highest opening partnerships for Australia in ODIs
284 - David Warner &amp; Travis Head vs Pakistan, Adelaide, 2017
269 - David Warner &amp; Travis Head vs England, Melbourne, 2022

258* - David Warner &amp; Aaron Finch vs India, Mumbai WS, 2020
246 - Aaron Finch &amp; Shaun Marsh vs Scotland, Edinburgh, 2013&nbsp;

With Travis Head set to return to the Australia XI sooner than later, it will be interesting to see if the Pat Cummins-led team management change the opening combination or not.

Pak vs Aus, CWC '23: Warner, Marsh register Australia's highest opening stand in World Cup history

For the first time in Cricket World Cup history, Australia’s back is against the wall, having lost their opening two encounters to India and South Africa, respectively. Under-fire all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, who opened in both games, vowed to learn from his mistakes and try and put his best foot forward in the upcoming matches.

Known to pressurize the opposition from the ball one, the newly-appointed Australia’s T20I captain admitted failing in his attempts against two quality bowling attacks. While against India, Marsh edged one off to the first slip on a duck, he played a wrong line in the game versus South Africa, nicking the ball to the mid-off area of Marco Jansen and hitting just seven runs.

Much like how every team plans ahead of each game, an opening stand plays a crucial role, something Australia has not been able to do in two games.

Being cornered, given their stance on the points table, Marsh believes Australia is ready to bounce back and play with a winning mindset.

"I still feel really good, it's obviously been a tough start personally," Marsh told reporters in Lucknow, the venue for Australia’s third CWC game against Sri Lanka on Monday (Oct 16).

"The other night (it) was tough conditions, and I probably wasn't able to put pressure back on the bowlers, which is a strength of mine, certainly in the Powerplay.&nbsp;I'll certainly be looking to be doing that."

"And 'Davey' (Warner) and I haven't got off to a partnership yet, which really helps set up our innings, so that’s something we need to rectify, and hopefully, that's this game,” the right-handed batter noted.

<h2>‘Excited about rectifying our mistakes’</h2>

Dropping catches is a crime in the cricket world, and Australia has committed it at least seven times in two matches. While their unwanted record of putting down six catches against the Proteas is one to look into, Marsh is aware of the repercussions Australia faced after he dropped Virat Kohli during the 200-run chase in Chennai.

"(Fielding) has been a hallmark of every good cricketing team, especially the Australian cricket team, and it's something as a group we're really proud of," Marsh said. "There's no doubt we've been off the mark with that in the first couple of games.

"We've got to be excited about rectifying that, playing a really exciting brand of cricket and hopefully bringing back a bit of energy in the field,” Marsh added.

World Cup: Lackluster Mitchell Marsh vows to correct mistakes as cornered Australia eye comeback

Dropping Virat Kohli, that too in a run chase, is a crime for any opposition. Mitchell Marsh was the offender in this case during the India-Australia World Cup clash in Chennai on Sunday. While India got reduced to 2 for 3 at one stage in the chase of 200 with three batters back in the hut on ducks, Virat escaped getting caught after his top-edge shot was dropped by Marsh, who ran from the square leg area.

That dropped catch, however, proved too costly for Australia, as Virat went on to score 85, adding 165 runs with KL Rahul for the fourth wicket. As a result, India walked away with a six-wicket win in their CWC 2023 opener.&nbsp;

Speaking on the repercussions of that particular dropped catch, Josh Hazlewood, who picked two wickets in his first over, defended Marsh, saying Alex Carey running in towards him caught him off-guard, resulting in putting it down.&nbsp;

In hindsight, had that catch been taken, India would have been 20 for four, with chase master Kohli back in the pavilion.&nbsp;

However, with bygones being bygones, Hazlewood said such things (catches getting dropped) are part of the game and can happen to anyone at any stage.&nbsp;

"I didn't think Carey could get there. I think it was Mitch's catch, and probably just Carey got quite close in the end, so, it might have just put Mitch off," Josh said of the dropped catch. "Yeah, he dropped a catch, it's one of those things that happens, and everyone's training hard and working hard off the field to hang on to them. So, yeah, we'll continue on."

<h2>King Kohli, Rahul march India home</h2>

India needed 200 runs to win on a dry Chennai track to open their World Cup with a bang. The start, however, had put them down right away, with three of their top four batters getting out in the space of seven balls.

The pair of Kohli and KL, who, against Pakistan during the Asia Cup, bailed India out of a similar situation, did the job for the team again.&nbsp;

While Kohli was at his absolute best on Sunday, KL Rahul’s return to form strengthened the team's batting, as he slammed an unbeaten 97 to see India home.

In the first innings, it was the spin trio of Ravindra Jadeja (three wickets), Kuldeep Yadav (two wickets) and Ravi Ashwin (one wicket), that ran riot and dismissed Australia on 199.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, India will face Afghanistan in their next CWC match in Delhi on Wednesday&nbsp;(Oct. 11).&nbsp;

World Cup: Hazlewood defends Marsh over Kohli’s drop catch, backs Australia to bounce after Chennai slump

Australia’s star man Mitchell Marsh has highlighted Glenn Maxwell’s importance to the side as the visitors salvaged a consolation win on Wednesday, 27 September in the final ODI. The win saw Maxwell play a key role as he scalped four wickets to prove his all-rounder ability. Already a prolific batter, his performance saw Australia clinch the final ODI in the three-match series by 66 runs but losing the series 1-2.

<h2>Marsh addresses Maxwell’s importance</h2>

"It was a great spell. He came back after having not played much cricket for the last (few) months. It was great to see him back. It is the energy that Maxi brings to the team, his presence, and the balance that he gives us," Marsh said during the post-match press conference.

"We obviously know that his batting is absolutely class but what he can do with the ball, and the options that he will give us with our all-rounders is vital for us going into the World Cup,” Maxwell said.

Like Maxwell, 31-year-old Marsh also played a key role in Australia’s dominant win as he scored 96 runs in 84 balls. However, he was unlucky to miss out on a hundred having enjoyed a prolific last few months. He, along with David Warner (56), put up an opening stand of 78 runs. Marsh would later partner Steven Smith (74) for a stand of 137 runs for the second wicket.

However, Kuldeep Yadav got the better of him in the 28th over as he missed out on his second ODI hundred. Later, the ever-impressive Marnus Labuschagne scored a brilliant 72-run knock as Australia scored 352 runs in their 50 overs. Jasprit Bumrah scalped three wickets for India while Kuldeep ended with a brace.

In reply, Australia restricted India to 286 with Maxwell getting four wickets in the contest. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli both got starts on their return to the team while the Men in Blue fell short of the target before being bowled out.

The Aussies will get their ODI World Cup campaign underway on Sunday, October 8 against hosts India. They will take on the Netherlands on Saturday, September 30 in their first warm-up game,&nbsp;while Pakistan await them in the second warm-up match on Tuesday, October 3.

ODI World Cup 2023: Mitchell Marsh underlines THIS star's importance for Australia, says 'he is vital for us'

Australia brought their A-game during the third ODI against India in Rajkot. Bringing in the World Cup-bound players for the final One-Dayer, the visitors posted a mammoth 352 for seven batting first. While all-rounder Mitchell Marsh hit a brilliant 96 off 84 balls, David Warner, Smith and Labuschagne scored respective fifties. For India, ace seamer Bumrah picked three wickets but conceded more than eight runs per over.

Australia elected to bat first after winning the toss. Warner and Marsh, the likely opening pair for the World Cup, attacked the opposition from the word go. Both went after Bumrah and Siraj, with Warner completing his fifty inside the first 10 overs. After Warner departed on 54, Marsh and Steve Smith carried forward the momentum. The Aussies crossed the 200-run-mark inside the 25th over, putting India on the back foot.

Kuldeep broke the stand by dismissing Marsh on 96. It was then India could put brakes on Australia’s pacey innings. While Smith and Labuschagne looked like putting the innings in the fifth gear, two wickets had them on the mat. Returning Glenn Maxwell got out cheaply to Bumrah, while Kuldeep dismissed Cameron Green to derail the Aussies' momentum.

The batter in form, Labuschagne, built a partnership with captain Pat Cummins to see Australia go past 330. Their stand was crucial in helping Australia gain a little advantage during the fag end of the innings. Although Marnus got out in the penultimate over off Bumrah, hitting 72, Cummins remained unbeaten on 19 as Australia posted a mammoth total of 352 for seven in 50 overs.

<h2>India aim for series whitewash</h2>

With seniors returning to the side, including regular captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, India boosts a potent batting line-up with match winners in the middle overs.

All eyes will again be on Shreyas Iyer, who starred with the bat in the previous outing, hitting his third ODI hundred. Suryakumar Yadav, who impressed everyone with his SKY-style cricket in Indore, will hog the limelight too. KL Rahul’s form will be crucial for India as he looks to cement his position as the top batter.&nbsp;

India aim for series whitewash With seniors returning to the side, including regular captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, India boosts a potent batting line-up with match winners in the middle overs. All eyes will again be on Shreyas Iyer, who starred with the bat in the previous outing, hitting his third ODI hundred. Suryakumar Yadav, who impressed everyone with his SKY-style cricket in Indore, will hog the limelight too. KL Rahul’s form will be crucial for India as he looks to cement his position as the top batter. Meanwhile, Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja will look to add some more runs to their kitty, while any contribution from the tail would be a bonus for India heading into the World Cup. Full-strength Australia on song, amass 352 as India bowlers suffer wrath in Rajkot ODI

Returning star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell stunned India with his four-wicket haul as Australia beat hosts by 66 runs in the final ODI, avoiding a series whitewash. Mitchell Marsh and the rest of the top order clicked with the bat as Australia posted a daunting 352 for seven batting first. A sensational spell by Maxwell helped Australia break India’s winning streak.

Electing to bat first after winning the toss, Australia got off to a flyer. Marsh and David Warner added 78 for the first wicket, with Warner completing his fifty during the stand. Even his dismissal couldn’t put brakes on Australia’s innings as Marsh took over the aggressor’s role and slammed Indian bowlers to all parts of the ground.

Though he departed for a well-made 96, including 13 fours and three sixes, the fifties from the batters to follow kept India silent throughout. Jasprit Bumrah impressed in his second spell but conceded joint-most runs in an ODI game, 81 off ten overs, picking three wickets.&nbsp;

Kuldeep also returned with two wickets, while Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna picked a wicket each. Thanks to an all-round team show, Australia scored a mammoth 352 for seven in 50 overs.

India had a new opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Washington Sundar. Playing their first game in this series, both looked in fine touch, with Rohit showing why he is still considered the best opener in this format.&nbsp;

As the opening stand was starting to flourish, with both adding 74 for the first wicket, Maxwell removed Sundar before accounting for Rohit, who hit a superb 57-ball 81. Virat Kohli completed his yet another fifty soon after but fell prey to Maxwell.&nbsp;

Shreyas Iyer turned back the clock with his impressive stroke play, looking sharp to repeat the Indore heroics. But before he could put on the fifth gear, Maxwell bowled a beauty and clean bowled him, picking his fourth.

In the meantime, Australia had also removed keeper-batter KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav, putting India’s back against the wall. Though Ravindra Jadeja stood his ground, the absence of an all-rounder at number eight hurt India during the chase.

The tail failed to weather the storm as Australia defeated India in the final ODI by 66 runs.

India still won the three-match series 2-1.

Meanwhile, India will open its World Cup campaign against Australia in Chennai on October 8.

Glenn Maxwell stars with ball as Australia beat India by 66 runs in final ODI, avoid whitewash

Australia’s stand-in skipper Mitchell Marsh has confirmed the batting plans for the ODI series against South Africa, with veteran stars David Warner and Travis Head set to spearhead the attack. The Aussies, on seventh heaven after their 3-0 whitewash of hosts South Africa in the T20I series, will look for a winning start as the ODI series gets underway. Marsh had earlier opened for Australia during the India series in March, sparking rumours of his return in that position.

<h2>Warner-Head to lead charge</h2>

"I expect to bat middle order," Marsh told AAP ahead of the first ODI.

"Things may change, but Davey is literally one of the GOATs of one-day cricket and white-ball cricket in general. We have Travis Head and Australia's best-ever all-three-format player there, so I dare say I probably won't be opening the batting."

Warner’s absence during the ODI series in India in March saw Marsh grab his opportunity as he scored 192 runs in three matches with an average of 96. He scored two fifties during the series before missing out on a third. Marsh’s superb run of form during the series saw his name in the hat for the opener’s slot, however, with Warner now fit and ready, the experienced all-rounder will return to the middle-order.

The visitors announced their Playing XI for the first ODI in Bloemfontein on Thursday, September 7 with the inclusion of two spinners. With Mitchell Starc missing from the pace attack, Josh Hazlewood will lead the bowling along with Sean Abbott and Marcus Stoinis. Ashton Agar and Adam Zampa will take charge of the spin department while Cameron Green and skipper Marsh will be vital with their all-rounder's ability.

Interestingly, despite being picked for the ODI squad, Tim David was not included in the Playing XI and will have to wait for his debut.

David Warner, Travis Head to lead opening charge during ODI series vs South Africa, confirms Mitchell Marsh

Australia’s newest T20I captain, Mitchell Marsh, can do nothing wrong. Marsh was Australia’s highest run-getter during the recently-concluded three-match T20Is against Proteas, hitting 186 runs with a similar strike rate. Usually bats at number three in the shortest format, Marsh will fight for an opener’s slot in the Australian ODI side for the upcoming Cricket World Cup, the stand-in coach Michael di Venuto feels.

Marsh’s return to the Australian setup lit up their cricket. During the third Ashes Test, in the absence of regular Cameron Green due to an injury, Marsh got roped into the side and that move paid dividends. Playing his first Ashes Test since last appearing at the Oval in 2019, Marsh slammed a hundred. In three matches played during the series, the attacking batter hit 250 runs at an average of 50.

Following the Ashes, Australia’s selection committee, chaired by George Bailey, appointed Marsh as the new permanent T20I captain, with a plan of handing him white-ball captaincy following the World Cup 2023.

Leading from the front, Marsh inspired Australia to beat hosts South Africa across three games played in Durban. In the first game, he won the Man of the Match for his incredible unbeaten 92 off 49 balls, including 13 fours and two sixes. In the following match, he again hogged the limelight with his match-winning 79 from just 39 balls, hitting six sixes and eight boundaries.

Alongside Matthew Short, Marsh helped Australia chase 168 inside 15 overs with eight wickets in hand. However, during the final match at the Kingsmead, he got out on 15.&nbsp;
His exploits in the shortest format have given Australia the selection headache as to where to make him play and utilise his form during the marquee event in India, beginning on October 5.

While Australia will play eight ODIs before their CWC opener against India on October 8 in Chennai, those matches will provide a clearer picture. Speaking on the same line, Australia’s stand-in coach Michael di Venuto said,

"There's lots of options for us moving forward opening the batting," Di Venuto told reporters. "You look at the World Cup – David Warner comes back into the mix, Mitch Marsh, Travis Head, they've all got good form recently, they can all put a case forward to open the batting at the World Cup."

Meanwhile, the five-match ODI series against South Africa will begin on September 7. After this, Australia will travel to India to play the three One-Dayers, starting September 22 in Mohali.

Left-handed opener Travis Head smashed a career-best 91 from 48 balls to lead Australia to a five-wicket win and a clean sweep of their three-match Twenty20 International series against hosts South Africa in Durban on Sunday.

Australia dominated all three games against a depleted home side on the small Kingsmead ground, and were the better side with bat, ball and in the field, where South Africa were sloppy.

The hosts elected to bat first and posted 190 for eight in their 20 overs, their highest score of the series but not enough as Australia easily chased down the target with 13 balls remaining.

Young spinner Tanveer Sangha showcased his prowess against South Africa as Australia went 1-0 up in the three-match T20I series in style in Durban on Wednesday.

His bowling figure of 4-31 was the best for a player making his debut for Australia.

His spin magic made short work of hosts South Africa as Australia cruised comfortably towards a thumping 111-run victory.

Australia set a massive target of 227 for the hosts with skipper Mitchell Marsh playing a captain's role and powering the visitors to the gigantic total with his unbeaten 92(49)*.

Tim David's knock of 68 off 24 balls was also vital in powering the Baggy Greens to the mammoth total.

While chasing the target, the hosts were dealt with an early blow with Marcus Stoinis sending Temba back on the final ball of the first over.&nbsp;

Rassie van der Dussen and Reeza Hendricks stitched up a 46-run partnership to get the Proteas back in the high-chase battle.

But once the right-arm pacer Sean Abbott sent Dussen back to the dugout, Sangha, who was the surprise selection in the squad, inflicted mayhem.

His legbreak style of bowling broke South Africa's backbone with skipper Aiden Markram (7), Dewald Brevis (5) and Tristan Stubbs (0) failing to face the new challenge that was in front of them.&nbsp;

Marco Jansen came in and became the third batter for South Africa to cross the double digits, but once again Sangha showed his potential by claiming his wicket.

Earlier in the innings, Australia, who held the record of scoring the most runs in the powerplay, broke their own record as the opening order plundered 70 runs in the first six overs, making the Proteas bowlers toil hard.

Marsh and David defined modern-day batting with their aggressive yet subtle shot technique to make the hosts run all over the field to chase the ball.

SA vs AUS 1st T20I: Sangha magic, hard-hitting Marsh power Australia to 111-run victory against South Africa

Australia’s stand-in skipper Mitchell Marsh has urged debutant Matt Short to make an instant impact as his side prepare to face South Africa in the first T20I on Wednesday, August 30. The contest set to be played at Kingsmead in Durban will see the away side with three debutants as Short will open the innings for Australia. According to Marsh, Short will be an exciting addition to the national team having enjoyed a stellar run with bat in the last few months.

<h2>Marsh excited about Short</h2>

“(He’s) very exciting. He’s coming off an outstanding 12 months for the Strikers and Victoria last year and thoroughly deserves his place,” he told reporters.

“I’m looking forward to seeing him open the batting for Australia.

“I’ve encouraged him to not change anything and take the game on, and we’re looking forward to seeing how he goes.”

The Victorian batter has enjoyed his cricket in the last 12 months during which he has been named Player of the Tournament in the BBL while also impressing in the Sheffield Shield. With 458 runs in 14 matches, Short was the second-highest scorer in the BBL last season with only Aaron Hardie scoring more with 460.

Short also scored 483 runs at 80.5 (including two centuries) in the Sheffield Shield while transforming his form in the red-ball format. His performance also saw him earn recognition in the Indian Premier League (IPL) where he was picked by Punjab Kings. In six matches for Punjab, he scored 117 runs with a best of 36.&nbsp;

SA vs AUS T20I Series: Mitchell Marsh urges Matt Short to shine on global stage, says 'he’s very exciting'

Australia’s stand-in skipper Mitchell Marsh has opened up on his new role as he prepares to lead his side in the limited-overs series against South Africa. Marsh, 31, will be the man in charge for the T20I and ODI series in the absence of regular captain Pat Cummins, who is nursing a wrist injury from the Ashes 2023. According to Marsh, he wishes he could be a good captain and fulfill the task of leading the side in Cummins’ absence.

<h2>Marsh on deputising for Cummins</h2>

"Hopefully I’m a good captain. If not, I won’t be in the job for very long. That’s okay I’m just looking forward to the opportunity.

"It's certainly been a crazy year. Throw in getting married, it's been a good one.

"We’ll get through South Africa and see how we go. I’m available to captain for as long as the team needs me. We’ll see where it all ends,” Cummins said while speaking on his new role with the team.

Australia will have a few concerns going into the series in South Africa as they will miss Cummins, who is expected to return only during the India series. Australian management though has insisted, Cummins will be in South Africa, promoting an early from the wrist injury.

<h2>Injury crisis for Australia</h2>

Currently, Australia are without Cummins and Steve Smith for the South Africa series, as the latter too injured his wrist. Smith injured his wrist during the Lord’s Test but still participated in the remainder three Tests. However, with the ODI World Cup coming up in October, the management wanted not to take any risk and avoided Smith for the series.

However, he too is expected to return to the team during the India tour when they face the two-time ODI World champions in a three-match ODI series. Smith is expected to wear a splint to protect his wrist during the India series.

Australia’s South Africa tour starts on Wednesday (Aug 30) with the first T20I taking place at Kingsmead in Durban. The three-match T20I series will then be followed by a five-match ODI series starting on Thursday, September 7 at Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein.

Australia tour of South Africa: Hopefully I’m a good captain - Mitchell Marsh on deputising for Cummins

All-rounder Mitchell Marsh is named as the new interim captain of Australia’s T20I side for the scheduled three T20Is against South Africa, starting August 30, making him the frontrunner for the role leading into next year’s T20 World Cup. Australia also included three uncapped players, Spencer Johnson, Aaron Hardie and Matt Short, in the 14-man squad.

The decision to appoint Marsh as the T20I captain (strictly for this series for now) gives a broader view of the situation Australia cricket is currently in – with the selectors eyeing to appoint one captain for the white-ball format following ICC Men’s ODI World Cup in October-November, and Marsh looks like a viable choice going forward.

Though Pat Cummins is leading the ODI and Test teams, he is likely to vacate the spot in white-ball cricket following the mega event.

Meanwhile, head selector George Bailey backed Marsh to lead the Aussie ODI and T20I teams, saying,&nbsp;

"Mitch has long been a senior player within the white ball structure, with this an opportunity for him to add to his leadership skills at the international level. We look forward to him taking that step in South Africa," Bailey said.

Star players like Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, Cameron Green and opener David Warner are rested following the Ashes and will join the side for the five-match ODIs.&nbsp;

While spin-bowling all-rounder Ashton Agar did not find a place in the side as he continues to recover from his calf injury, senior campaigner Steve Smith is picked and will find a home in the top order.

The three uncapped players, seamer Spencer Johnson and all-rounders Hardie and Short got picked on the back of impressive domestic performances. While Spencer impressed everyone with his death bowling during BBL last season for Brisbane Heat, Hardie (playing for Perth Scorchers) had a breakthrough season, ending as the tournament’s highest run-scorer with 460 runs at a strike-rate of over 140.

Matt Short, who scored 458 runs and picked 11 wickets, was picked by Punjab Kings in the IPL 2023.&nbsp;

"Aaron, Spencer and Matt have been outstanding in the BBL and identified as potential national players of the future," Bailey said. "This tour is a great opportunity for all three to demonstrate those skills in a national team environment."

England and Australia locked horns on Day 1 of the fourth and penultimate Test, on Wednesday (July 19), at the Old Trafford, Manchester. With a 2-1 lead, Pat Cummins &amp; Co. kicked off proceedings with an aim to take an unassailable 2-1 lead and win their first away Ashes series since 2001. Ben Stokes-led England opted to bowl first and did well to restrict Australia at 299 for 8 with many Aussie batters getting starts but failing to capitalise on them.

After the end of Day One, former Australian captain Ricky Ponting analysed the day's proceedings and stated that Cummins-led visitors would be disappointed for 'letting a very good opportunity slip'. "I think Australia will be disappointed," Ponting said on Sky Cricket. "They have let a very good opportunity slip. It has been pretty good batting conditions [with the sun out] and their top score is 51," he added.

Talking about the first day's play, England got rid of in-form opener Usman Khawaja (12) early, while the likes of David Warner (32), Marnus Labuschagne (51), Steve Smith (41), Travis Head (48), Mitchell Marsh (51), Cameron Green (16) and Alex Carey (20) got their eyes in but failed to build up. Labuschagne, Australia's No. 3, crossed the 50-run mark for the first time in the ongoing series.

"(From) where we were, and how many guys got themselves in, I think we would be slightly disappointed with no one getting a big score... The ball will be more in their court,” Labuschagne said in the post-match conference on Day One.&nbsp;

On Day Two, on Thursday (July 20), Australia will resume at 299 for 8 with skipper Cummins and Mitchell Starc (23 not out) in the middle. The duo will hope to take the score forward and take Australia to the 350-run mark at least. With England trailing 1-2, they will resort to an attacking style of play to take a sizeable lead and put the Aussies on the back foot.

Ashes, 4th Test: Australia will be disappointed, says Ponting after Cummins & Co. end Day 1 at 299 for 8

Cameron Green has attained full fitness and is ready to play the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford in Manchester, starting next Wednesday. But it’s not as easy as it appears to be.

Cameron Green has attained full fitness and is ready to play the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford in Manchester, starting next Wednesday. But it’s not as easy as it appears to be. Green missed the third Test in Leeds after suffering a minor hamstring injury, and the selectors decided to bring Mitchell Marsh in his place – who, for his good, scored a brilliant hundred in the first innings and pressed the case for his retention in the next game – much to the selection committee's headache. With Marsh also contributing in the wickets column, the selection dilemma increases for the George Bailey-led panel. However, Green’s credentials will help his case, but the young all-rounder isn’t too sure about opening the innings. Since David Warner’s lone gritty knock during the first innings in Lord’s, the veteran batter has struggled, and without any guesses, against Stuart Broad, who now has picked his wicket 17 times in international cricket. ALSO READ: WI vs IND 2023: 'He showed patience, temperament, stuck to his plans': Rohit lauds debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal Calling the idea of him opening the innings only on the ground that he has to play, Green labels it as a bit stretched. Though he is putting his hands up to bat at any position for the team, Green feels since he bowls a bit more for a batting all-rounder, he must stick with batting at lower down the order. Citing Shane Watson’s example, who had batted at the top of the order during the 2009 Ashes, Green said, "I think it's a bit of a stretch. I think being an all-rounder [makes it a stretch] - probably Shane Watson is the only one who comes to mind doing that - [and] I'm not too sure how much he bowled." "I think anyone would be happy to bat anywhere to play Test cricket. You always put your hand up for selection but have to wait and see what selectors think,” Green added. We share a good bond, says Green on Marsh Though it’s evident if Warner retains his place at the top of the order or even gets replaced by Marcus Harris for the fourth Test, either of Mitchell Marsh and Green will play in Manchester as Travis Head will start, given he adds value with the ball in hand. Speaking on the overall relationship he shares with Mitchell Marsh, Green said, "We both have a great relationship. We're so happy for each other when one gets picked…I kind of look up to Mitch, so I'm so happy to see him play well. There was no doubt in my mind that he was going to come back and play an incredible game, which he did,” Green added. Meanwhile, Australia lead the five-matches Ashes series 2-1. Ashes: Fully fit Cameron Green unsure of opening batting in fourth Test as selection dilemma lingers on

The ongoing Ashes 2023 has been a riveting series. After the first three Tests, Australia lead England 2-1 with the fourth and penultimate Test to kick off on July 19 at the Old Trafford, Manchester. Ahead of the next Test match, Pat Cummins &amp; Co. have some tough calls to make while deciding their playing XI.

After a loss in the third Test at Leeds, Headingley, Australia still lead the five-match series but will have to decide if they need to continue with a struggling David Warner at the top and who among Cameron Green and Mitchell Marsh will make the cut. Green started the series for Australia but Marsh replaced him after the former's hamstring injury in the third Test.&nbsp;

While Australia lost the Headingley encounter by three wickets, Marsh was their top-performer. He returned with a magnificent 118 and 28 along with claiming two scalps. Green, on the other hand, has three wickets and&nbsp;but has only managed&nbsp;38, 28, 0 and 18 with the bat. Ahead of the penultimate encounter, former Aussie captain Ricky Ponting made his choice and feels Marsh will be picked ahead of Green.

Speaking on the latest episode of ICC Review, Ponting opined, "I know he's a highly talented youngster (Green), but with the national series on the line and what Mitch Marsh provided last game and with two top-order wickets as well, let's not forget about the wickets that he got. I think they might keep him in."

Meanwhile, Punter also opened up on David Warner's struggles in Ashes 2023. He was dismissed by Stuart Broad for the 17th time in the format during the second innings of the third Test. He has returned with scores of 9, 36, 66, 25, 4 and 1 in the series.

"When someone's got you out 17 times, it does become as much a mental or probably more of a mental battle than it does a technical battle. But just thinking about the series, I'd be inclined to stick with David Warner," Ponting stated.

"With the lack of tour games for Australia, it doesn't just hinder the guys that are out of form, but it actually hinders the other guys that are trying to push for a place into the side because they're just batting in the nets every day and they're not getting any match practice either," he&nbsp;added.

Ashes, 4th Test: Green or Marsh? Ponting names Aussie all-rounder likely to feature in the XI

Ashes 2023 is turning out to be an exciting series for all cricket lovers. Australia are currently leading the series 2-0, but this hardly tells the story of how nail-biting and competitive the fixtures have been. When England and Australia faced each other on Day 1 of the third Ashes Test, a very peculiar incident happened that is now catching everyone’s attention. Before the toss, England’s head coach, Brendon McCullum was reportedly stopped by the security staff who failed to recognise him.

<h2>Brendon McCullum stopped by the security</h2>

As reported by The Times UK, Brendon McCullum was stopped by a security guard and was not permitted to enter the ground at Headingley, Leeds. The report said, “The security guard on duty did not recognise McCullum, who tried to argue while the person accompanying the New Zealander pointed out that it was fairly critical to the England team's chances that he was allowed through.”

The security guard stopped McCullum because he did not have the correct entry pass. This didn’t sit well with the former New Zealand skipper, who was in a hurry for the toss and moved past the guard. It was said that McCullum lost patience and bypassed security when the guard was trying to contact his supervisor and told him, “You'll just have to deal with it.”

<h2>The Third Ashes Test: A game of comebacks</h2>

If England want to keep their hopes alive of winning the series they will have to win this Test. The Ben Stokes-led side made 2 changes in their line-up. They brought in Mark Wood to replace James Anderson and Moeen Ali in place of an injured Ollie Pope. The changes seem to have worked as Wood took a five-for and helped dismiss Australia for 263 runs in the first innings.

On the other side, Australia brought in Mitchell Marsh, who made a return to the side after a long gap of nearly four years. Marsh had a dream comeback and carried Australia to a respectable score. The all-rounder scored a brilliant hundred. Later, he took the crucial wicket of English opener Zak Crawley.

<h2>Ashes Third Test</h2>

Despite getting Australia out for 263 on Day 1, England failed to capitalise on the situation, thanks to a six-wicket haul by Pat Cummins. English skipper Ben Stokes once again played a magnificent fighting innings, but could only take the hosts to a score of 237. With Moeen Ali leading the bowling attack with 2 wickets, England would look to finish off Australia’s innings quickly. Australia have a lead of 142 runs, with the star pair of last innings- Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head at the crease.

Australia lead 142 runs in the 3rd Ashes Test. The Pat Cummins-led side were at 116 for 4 at the end of Day 2. The match is a must win game for England if they want to keep their hopes alive of winning the series.

Brendon McCullum stopped by the security As reported by The Times UK, Brendon McCullum was stopped by a security guard and was not permitted to enter the ground at Headingley, Leeds. The report said, “The security guard on duty did not recognise McCullum, who tried to argue while the person accompanying the New Zealander pointed out that it was fairly critical to the England team's chances that he was allowed through.” Also Read: ODI World Cup 2023: Mohammad Kaif makes big claim about Team India, says 'chances are quite bright because...' Ashes 2023: Brendon McCullum stopped by security guard at Headingley

Being asked to bat first on Day 1 of the third Ashes Test, Australia were in a spot of bother at 85 for 4 in Leeds, Headingley. With Mark Wood (5 for 34) and Stuart Broad removing the Aussie top-order, the onus lied on Mitchell Marsh, on Test return after 2019, and Travis Head. The duo stitched a memorable 155-run fifth-wicket stand as Marsh's 118 inspired a spirited comeback from the Aussies.

While Pat Cummins-led Australia folded for 263, being 240 for 4 at one stage, after Marsh's 118, the right-hander played a superb knock on his Test comeback. After the opening day's play, the 31-year-old all-rounder, who replaced an injured Cameron Green, reflected on his knock and stated that he worked really hard to control his nerves.

<h2>'Worked really hard to control my nerves'</h2>

"It was pretty amazing, I'm still lost for words. In the past my nerves have really got the better of me and I've worked really hard to control them. I think it's the first time I've been dropped in Test cricket and you always need some luck, it was my day," Marsh said while speaking to BBC Sport.

After Wood's five-fer, England came out to bat in reply to Australia's 263 and ended the day's play at 68 for 3 with Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow in the middle. Marsh chipped in with the ball as well and removed Zak Crawley (33) and will be eager to contribute with the ball on Day 2 of the third Test on Friday (July 07).

With Australia on the verge of winning their first away Ashes series since 2001, Marsh will be desperate to make an all-round contribution and take his side to an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series. For England, they need to bat really well on the second day to stand a chance to take a sizeable lead and dictate terms from there on.

Ashes, 3rd Test: Centurion Mitchell Marsh recalls Day 1 heroics, says 'worked hard to control nerves'

England premier seamer Mark Wood made an emphatic return to the Test side, picking a five-wicket haul (five for 34) on day one of the third Ashes Test in Leeds. While his supreme pace stunned the Aussies, a comeback hundred for all-rounder Mitchell Marsh kept the touring side in the game at least until tea. After Australia’s first innings got wrapped up on 263, England was also reduced to 68 for three at stumps, thanks to early strikes by captain Pat Cummins.

Asked to bat first on a relatively greener track, England got the big wicket of David Warner caught in the slips off Stuart Broad for a record 16th time. Though the man in form for the Aussies, Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne enjoyed the true bounce off the pitch, hitting a few fours early on, Mark Wood’s sheer pace terrorised them to say the least.

Bowling at over 95 mph, Wood bowled Khawaja off a Jaffa.&nbsp;

Playing his 100th Test, Aussie batting giant Steve Smith joined his favourite batting partner Marnus in the middle. The pair tried stitching a stand but failed, falling prey to exceptional bowling by fellow seamers Broad and another returnee Chris Woakes.

With Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh batting in the middle, English fans knew less about what’s coming for them. Recalled in the side for the first time in around four years as replacement for injured Cameron Green, Marsh grabbed the opportunity with both hands and played a Bazball-like-inning against the inventors of it after lunch.

In just one session, he completed a remarkable hundred, scoring run-a-ball 118, adding 155 for the fifth-wicket stand with keeper Alex Carey. Just on the stroke of tea on day one, Woakes returned to pick the big fish. Come the third session, England was all over the Aussies, with Wood running wild with his express pace. His first five-for in the home Ashes this time saw Australia getting bundled out on 263.

<h2>Cummins, Marsh put brakes&nbsp;on Bazball</h2>

England got off to a good start with Zak Crawley sending a few bad balls across the boundary line. Australia captain Cummins removed Ben Duckett on two caught behind and picked new makeshift number three Harry Brook caught in the slips. With two wickets down early on, Joe Root joined Crawley in the middle, and the pair started building a partnership.

Star with the bat in hand, Marsh continued with his purple patch by removing Crawley, caught in the similar fashion on 33. Root and Jonny Bairstow played sensibly to avoid losing another wicket as England ended day one on 68 for three, 195 runs behind.

After days of speculation, Australia has finally named the 15-man squad for the World Test Championship Final against India, starting June 7th at the Oval in London. Australia picked experienced seamer Josh Hazlewood after the latest reports stated he has no serious damage following an early exit from IPL 2023 due to soreness. The Oz have kept all-rounder Mitchell Marsh and batter Matthew Renshaw as part of the reserves. While uncapped keeper-batter Josh Inglis has also been picked, Australia have moved the pace bowling duo of Michael Neser and Sean Abbott as net bowlers – with Neser tipped to replace Hazlewood in the team if required. Todd Murphy, the off-spinner who made his Test debut against India earlier during the away Border-Gavaskar series, is also included in the 15-man squad alongside veteran spinner Nathan Lyon. IPL 2023: SRH back to winning ways with 9-run win against bottom placed DC

Former Australian all-rounder Tom Moody has urged the struggling Delhi Capitals side to take some risks if they wish to overturn their fortunes in IPL 2023. Ahead of DC’s sixth match against Kolkata Knight Riders on Thursday, Moody wants DC to drop Prithvi Shaw and replace him with Mitchell Marsh at the top of the order.

Moody feels IPL 2023 is not Shaw’s year and that he should get benched for good, and the team must look into other options straightaway. The young right-handed batter scored only 34 runs in five games, including two ducks, and hasn’t looked confident either.

As the Delhi side is reeling at the tenth spot in the points table with five losses in as many games, Moody said the time for extended runs for a few players is over and the team must take some harsh calls.

"You've got to make a tough call on certain players that aren't showing any light at the end of the tunnel. And on the evidence of what we've seen so far with Prithvi Shaw, it may well be that IPL 2023 may not be his year where he has the impact that we all hoped that he was going to have," Moody said on ESPNcricinfo, as quoted by India Today.

"It can just be, 'Oh, we'll give him a couple more games and see what happens'. Those couple of games go, and your chances as a franchise have gone. That's why you've got to make that cold, hard decision at that point. This is a crunch time," he added.

Giving his suggestion to this solution, Moody said Delhi must consider looking at Mitchell Marsh as the option, as he has done it in the past – most recently against India in Vizag, where he scored 66 off 36 balls, hitting six fours and six sixes.

"He's (Marsh) done that before recently, and he's done it successfully. He's naturally an enforcer, so that would complement [David] Warner, it would help him as well," Moody said. "You've got a left-right combination, you've got a 6ft4in and a 5ft8in batter, which is difficult to bowl to."

Besides, he also wants the man-in-form, Axar Patel to bat higher up the order at number five.

IPL 2023: SHOCKING! Bats, other equipment stolen from Delhi Capitals players' kits

Under-pressure David Warner was Wednesday spared the axe and included in Australia's squad for the first two Ashes Tests and the World Test Championship final, while all-rounder Mitchell Marsh earned a recall.

Veteran opener Warner is fighting to save his career after a lean run with the bat that had some questioning whether his time was over.

But the 36-year-old will head to England as part of a 17-man squad that also includes Josh Inglis as cover for wicketkeeper Alex Carey, and Marcus Harris and Matthew Renshaw as back-up batters.

There was no room for batsman Peter Handscomb, who featured on the recent Test tour of India and is currently playing county cricket in England.

Big-hitting Marsh, who has long battled injuries, returns as a likely replacement for Cameron Green should he pick up an injury.

"The UK is a very different assignment from our most recent tour of India and some of the changes are based upon the conditions we are anticipating," said chairman of selectors George Bailey.&nbsp;

"Marcus, Josh and Mitch return to the squad and provide valuable depth and flexibility within their respective skillsets."

Australia play India at The Oval in the World Test Championship final from June 7 followed by five Ashes Tests at Edgbaston, Lord's, Headingley, Old Trafford and The Oval.

Bailey said selectors would evaluate the makeup of the squad following the first three matches.&nbsp;

"We see value in revisiting the squad following the second Ashes Test given the short turnaround between the WTC final and the first Ashes Test, along with the length of the tour," he said.

David Warner makes cut, Mitchell March recalled for Australia's Ashes squad

The Delhi Capitals will be looking to get into winning ways when they take on Kolkata Knight Riders at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi on Thursday. The 2020 runners-up have endured a tough start to the season, having lost all of their five matches. Led by David Warner, DC will look for a positive outcome in their contest to keep their faintest hopes alive to make the playoffs.

Speaking ahead of the game, Delhi Capitals' all-rounder Mitchell Marsh said, "We would certainly like to bat better. We've not been able to get off to good starts or we have lost wickets in clumps. We have to string partnerships and we need one player to get a big score. If we can do that, then we can turn it around."

When asked about his own form with the bat, Marsh said, "I've got a lot of confidence in my processes and routines to go out there and play aggressively from ball one. I've not been able to execute my plans in the three games that I have played this season. But I know that my process works and therefore it's about sticking to your process and having good intent. Hopefully, I can start scoring runs."

The Australian further expressed that the Delhi Capitals are working very hard to turn their fortunes in the TATA IPL 2023, "It's always difficult when things are not going right for the team. However, the spirits are high in the camp. We are a family at the Delhi Capitals and we care deeply about each other. We are all working extremely hard and hopefully, we can get a win in our next game."

Delhi Capitals have so far lost all their matches in the IPL 2023 and will look to register their first win of the season against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Thursday, April 20 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

IPL 2023: 'We have to start stringing big partnerships,' says Delhi Capitals' all-rounder Mitchell Marsh

Not everything is going right for certain franchises as both Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals are set to be without their key players for the coming days in the Indian Premier League.&nbsp; According to several reports, Jos Buttler of Rajasthan Royals and Mitchell Marsh of Delhi Capitals will miss the upcoming clashes for two different reasons.

<h2>Buttler out with injury</h2>

The England limited-overs captain was the recipient of the Orange Cap in 2022 with 863 runs but will likely have to warm the bench for Rajasthan against Delhi due to an injury. Buttler, injured his finger while taking a catch in the contest against Punjab Kings on Wednesday. Buttler sustained the injury while taking the catch of Punjab Kings batsman Shahrukh Khan and had to undergo multiple stitches.

The injury forced him to sit out of the batting duties and therefore Ravichandran Ashwin was promoted to open the innings. However, the experiment failed and resulted in Buttler batting in the second over, but failed to make an impression as he was unable to bat at his 100 percent.

Delhi Capital’s star man Mitchell Marsh is also reported to be out for a week, but not with injury. It is reported that he will be getting married. Marsh will get married in Australia and will miss a week out while it will be an opportunity for someone to fill in. Rovman Powell could be back in the team, as there are suggestions he might have to sit out of the team.

"He [Marsh] is not going to be available for the next few games. He is getting married," Hopes told the media ahead of the Capitals clash with Royals in Guwahati.

IPL 2023: Tension grows for DC, RR with absence of key stars; Marsh, Buttler out for a week - Reports

Australia’s Mitchell Marsh feels more all-rounders in the team will result in a better balance. World Cup-winner with Australia in One-Day and T20 cricket, Marsh feels having more dual-ability players provides the captain with extra cushion to pick the best XI for a game. Realising that Australia has eight all-rounders in their squad for the three-match ODIs against India, starting on Friday in Mumbai, Marsh thinks this number fits in the team's structure.

Adding that how in the England team players can bat up to even eight or nine, Australia will love to deploy the same approach if they were to succeed in One-Day cricket. Ahead of the first ODI, Marsh told the Australian media,&nbsp;

"The more all-rounders, the better," Marsh said.

"For the balance of our team, having as many all-rounders in here as we can is important for the structure we line up with. England have guys batting at No.8 that are genuine batters. It gives you the ability to either set really big totals or chase big totals. You'll see that hopefully this series," the hard-hitting all-rounder added.

Marsh opined that knowing this is a World Cup year and how cricket is played in this part of the world, having the batting depth will benefit Australia going ahead.&nbsp;

"And looking forward to the World Cup, just the way the cricket is played here in the white-ball format, you're going to have to chase big scores or make big scores to be able to defend them," Marsh further opined.

The Western-Australian star underwent ankle surgery and missed three months of cricket, as he wasn’t even available for the Border-Gavaskar series also. Now returned to the side for the white-ball leg, Marsh revealed he is not 100% ready and fit to bowl but will get there in a couple of weeks' time.

“I'm probably a month away, three weeks away, from bowling in games," Marsh said. "We've got a lot of (bowling) options in our team at the moment and a lot of cricket to play this year.”

Rishabh Pant's DC release Shardul Thakur, Tim Seifert, retain core players ahead of IPL 2023 auction

England and Australia locked horns with each other in the second and penultimate T20I on Wednesday (October 12) at the Manuka Oval, Canberra. With a 1-0 lead, Jos Buttler &amp; Co. were asked to bat first by Aaron Finch's Australia. Reeling at 53 for 4, it seemed the English innings won't go anywhere before Dawid Malan's 82, off 49 balls, and all-rounder Moeen Ali's 27-ball 44 propelled the visitors to a competitive 178 for 7.&nbsp;

In reply, Australia were 22 for 2 but saw vital knocks from Mitchell Marsh, Marcus Stoinis, Tim David and Pat Cummins before only managing 170 for 6 to lose by eight runs, and conceding the series 2-0 with one game to play. During the run-chase, Ben Stokes pulled off a blinder to save a certain six off Marsh's willow.&nbsp;

The incident took place during the 12th over, bowled by Sam Curran. The younger Curran bowled a length delivery as Marsh went for the big shot. The ball reached Stokes, stationed at long-off, who managed to&nbsp;get a hand on it and then backflipped it to save a certain six. Here's the video of Stokes' brilliance on the field:

England were challenged throughout the match but the visitors stood tall in crunch situations to go past the Aussies by eight runs and earn an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, being played right before the T20 World Cup.

At the post-match presentation, Buttler said, "Really satisfying win. We showed great character. Malan played really well to anchor us to 178. Extra special for him. Curran enjoys the tough overs. He was brave enough to hit the leg stump. David is tough to bowl at. We needed to find a way out to get him out."

Finch, on the other hand, stated, "Dropped a couple of chances after having them four down. Could have made it easier for us. David has been fantastic. He will get better the more he plays at the international level. We have luxury with the new ball as we have three world-class bowlers to pick from."

With a 1-0 lead, Jos Buttler & Co. were asked to bat first by Aaron Finch's Australia. Reeling at 53 for 4, it seemed the English innings won't go anywhere before Dawid Malan's 82, off 49 balls, and all-rounder Moeen Ali's 27-ball 44 propelled the visitors to a competitive 178 for 7. In reply, Australia were 22 for 2 but saw vital knocks from Mitchell Marsh, Marcus Stoinis, Tim David and Pat Cummins before only managing 170 for 6 to lose by eight runs, and conceding the series 2-0 with one game to play. During the run-chase, Ben Stokes pulled off a blinder to save a certain six off Marsh's willow. The incident took place during the 12th over, bowled by Sam Curran. The younger Curran bowled a length delivery as Marsh went for the big shot. The ball reached Stokes, stationed at long-off, who managed to get a hand on it and then backflipped it to save a certain six. At the post-match presentation, Buttler said, "Really satisfying win. We showed great character. Malan played really well to anchor us to 178. Extra special for him. Curran enjoys the tough overs. He was brave enough to hit the leg stump. David is tough to bowl at. We needed to find a way out to get him out." Finch, on the other hand, stated, "Dropped a couple of chances after having them four down. Could have made it easier for us. David has been fantastic. He will get better the more he plays at the international level. We have luxury with the new ball as we have three world-class bowlers to pick from."

Australia trio of left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc, all-rounders Mitchell Marsh and Marcus Stoinis are set to miss the upcoming T20I series against India due to injuries. Opener David Warner had already been rested from the trip and now, Starc (knee), Marsh (ankle) and Stoinis (side strain) have been ruled out of the short tour of India.

"Selectors felt with three games in six days across three cities -- including travel to India and internally -- Marsh, Stoinis and Starc are best served remaining in Australia to prepare for the ICC Men`s T20 World Cup," said a statement from Cricket Australia (CA).

Earlier, a report in cricket.com.au said pacer Nathan Ellis, all-rounders Daniel Sams, and Sean Abbott will be the replacements for the injured trio on their trip to India, with matches to take place on September 20, 23 and 25 in Mohali, Nagpur and Hyderabad respectively.

The last time Australia played a T20I series against India, it was in 2019, where Australia won two-match series 2-0.

Marsh and Stoinis were injured during Australia`s ODI series against Zimbabwe at Townsville and against New Zealand at Cairns. But Starc, their pace spearhead, is a late exclusion from the tour to India after a scan on his knee in Sydney on Wednesday.

The trios absence means that Australia will have some changes to their desired playing eleven on tour of India.

"The absence of Stoinis all-but guarantees Tim David will make his Australian debut on the tour as a middle-order finisher, and gives him the chance to make it difficult for Stoinis to force his way back into the side."

"Marsh`s absence could see Steve Smith move back up to No.3 with allrounder Cameron Green coming into the side, while Josh Inglis is likely to partner Aaron Finch at the top of the order with Warner rested from the tour for family time," added the report.
