Meghan Markle has now filed a formal complaint to the British broadcaster ITV against the former television presenter and a former Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan.

Meghan Markle files formal complaint against Piers Morgan

Piers Morgan, the pugnacious British TV presenter who lost his job over his attacks on Prince Harry`s wife Meghan, said on Wednesday he still did not believe what she had said during her Oprah Winfrey interview.

Morgan, 55, left ITV`s 'Good Morning Britain' on Tuesday after a backlash against his comments on Meghan`s interview with Winfrey, in which she revealed she had felt suicidal while living as a royal in Britain.

"On Monday, I said I didn`t believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview. I`ve had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still don`t. If you did, OK," Morgan said in a characteristically combative Tweet on Wednesday morning.

"Freedom of speech is a hill I`m happy to die on. Thanks for all the love, and hate. I`m off to spend more time with my opinions," he told his 7.8 million Twitter followers.

In an interview that has embarrassed Britain`s tradition-bound monarchy, Meghan, who married Prince Harry in 2018, said the royal family had rejected her pleas for mental health support.

The American actress, who is mixed race, also said that someone in the royal household had raised questions about the colour of her unborn son`s skin.

The morning after the interview was aired on U.S. television, Morgan said on Good Morning Britain, among a torrent of other criticisms, that he did not believe a word Meghan had said. In a Tweet, he called her "Princess Pinocchio".

The following morning, he stormed off the set of the live programme when challenged by a co-presenter about his stance. Later that day, ITV said he was leaving.

Monday`s programme attracted more than 41,000 complaints to Britain`s media regulator, the second highest in its history, which announced an investigation.

Morgan first made his name in the cut-throat world of the British tabloid press, culminating in stints editing the now-defunct News of the World, then the Daily Mirror.

He later went into television, appearing as a judge on the reality shows America`s Got Talent and Britain`s Got Talent. For three years he hosted a chat show on CNN.

Morgan`s detractors said his attitude towards Meghan seemed to be partly driven by personal animus because, by his own account, he had got on "brilliantly" with her when he had first met her but she had later dropped contact with him.

Susanna Reid, who co-presented Good Morning Britain with Morgan and frequently disagreed with him on air, described him on Wednesday`s programme as "outspoken, challenging, opinionated, disruptive".

Morgan told reporters on Tuesday he thought Meghan`s interview had damaged the monarchy and Queen Elizabeth at a time when her 99-year-old husband Prince Philip was in hospital, which he said was "contemptible".

"If I have to fall on my sword for expressing an honestly held opinion about Meghan Markle and that diatribe of bilge that she came out with in that interview, so be it," he said.

Dumped British TV host Morgan pours more scorn on Meghan suicide, racism claims

The Harry and Meghan interview has triggered an international crisis for the British Monarchy. The interview triggered the #AbolishTheMonarchy trend. Are people overreacting to this interview? WION's Palki Sharma tells you more about the hysteria.

Gravitas: Harry & Meghan interview triggers an international crisis for the Royals

What purpose does the British Royal Family serve besides being UK'S soft power? Their lifestyle costs the taxpayer heavily, their powers are unaccountable & they see privilege as a birthright.WION's Palki Sharma asks: Is it time to #AbolishTheMonarchy?

The Harry and Meghan interview has received wall to wall coverage within British media - while the country is still struggling with the Wuhan virus. The British economy suffered its worst slump since 1709. WION's Palki Sharma asks, why are the Brits still obsessed with the Royals?

Gravitas: What explains the obsession with the Royal Family?

"Meghan Markle is bringing down an empire.” That's what a Democratic lawmaker in New York said yesterday. He was talking about the bombshell interview, the one featuring two former royals.

"Meghan Markle is bringing down an empire.” That's what a Democratic lawmaker in New York said yesterday. He was talking about the bombshell interview, the one featuring two former royals. The one that's been in the headlines for more than a week now. And the one that has triggered-- what can only be called--- hysteria. British tabloids are infamous for blowing things out of proportion. And this interview is perfect fodder for them. It is triggering new fights, even on live television. Broadcaster Piers Morgan engaged in a rather heated debate with his colleagues — while discussing the interview. Meghan Markle's father dismisses her racist allegation against the royal family: The whole thing about colour is bulls**t The Good morning Britain anchor said: "I'm angry to the point of boiling over today; I’m sickened by what I've just had to watch." Good morning Britain co-anchor, Susanna Reid, said: "OK, several people might be upset and moved by what they've heard." Then, Morgan replied: "Sorry, you can defend it in a minute. I'm just going to say what I'm going to say. They trash everybody. They make out the entire royal family a bunch of white supremacists by dropping this race bombshell." Royal concerns on Archie's skin colour to having suicidal thoughts, Meghan Markle tells all in Oprah interview Reid said: "They didn't use that phrase." Morgan later walked out of his show. He lost his cool after one of his colleagues accused him of launching a "one-man tirade" against the former royals on air. You could say they're over-reacting. And you'd be right. But they're not the only ones. This interview has caused what is being called a full-blown constitutional crisis in the UK. Across the Atlantic, even the White House felt the need to weigh in. During a press conference, the White House press secretary seemed to suggest that US President Joe Biden backs the decision of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to speak out. “Markle is a private citizen and so is Harry at this point. For anyone to come forward and speak about their struggles with mental health and tell their personal story, that takes courage. That's certainly something the president believes,” she said. A flood of tweets came from Meera Harris too, the niece of Vice President Kamala Harris, the one who's proven to be an ace at milking controversies. Comments and reactions have been pouring in from around the world. It's as if which princess made the other one cry is the subject of utmost priority for the whole world. It's beyond bizarre. But 2020 has taught us to not undermine the bizarre. So this is what we have. Everyone is talking about the royal interview. Except for the royals themselves. No word yet from Buckingham Palace. The royal family is yet to issue a statement. To say that Meghan and Harry washed dirty linen in public would be an understatement. They've levelled some very serious charges against the British monarchy. Markle claims she was suicidal. She accused a member of the royal family of racism. The Buckingham Palace hasn't said a word. Harry's father, Prince Charles, made his first public appearance today. He was asked about the interview. He did not say anything. You can walk away from a question. But you'll have to face the crisis that the interview has triggered. In the US, the hashtag #Abolishthemonarchy has gone viral. Social media users are questioning the relevance of the monarchy today. Even the British prime minister couldn't avoid the subject. He chose to defend the queen's role, in a public statement. "I've always had the highest admiration for the queen and the unifying role that she plays in our country and across the Commonwealth. As for the rest, all other matters to do with the royal family, I've spent a long time now not commenting on royal family matters and I don't intend to depart from that today," Boris Johnson said. All of this is happening over one interview. A former royal couple chose to reveal their family feud. Some have called them brave. Others say they're just attention seekers. Whatever they are, they're at the centre of a storm now. They may have wanted to make a splash. They ended up with a tsunami. What's the role of the British Monarchy? Which countries still have kings and queens? To do what? If there's one thing that Meghan Markle's interview has done, it has raised questions on the role and conduct of the British Monarchy. Is it unaccountable, is it racist? What purpose does it serve? Except maybe boosting the soft power of Britain? It attracts media attention, tourism, international students, maintains political good-will. And sometimes helps secure trade deals. But is it a meaningful and relevant institution in today's world? One family gets taxpayer-funded grants, lives in lavish palaces, gets special protection from the justice system. And wields political influence. Why? Because they were born royal!!! But pause for a moment. And ask yourself: Does the world still have a place for such an antiquated system of governance? Or is it time to abolish the British monarchy? Here's our case. A child born in the United Kingdom today can become anything he or she wants to. An actor, a footballer, a prime minister, but not ahead of the state, no matter how intelligent or talented they are. Because Great Britain is a constitutional monarchy. The head of the state is a position given to a royal as a birthright. A monarch is born superior, while the rest of the people are the monarch's subjects, not British citizens. The monarch is also the sovereign of 15 countries in the Commonwealth of Nations. The monarch cannot be prosecuted, cannot be made to pay taxes either. Can drive without a license, can travel without a passport, has the power to form governments, and the power to dissolve governments even in Australia. These are all powers every monarch inherits at birth. But should they? Members of the royal family are in no way biologically superior to anyone else. They have nothing that sets them apart except maybe jewels and magnificent clothes. Their lifestyle is incredibly expensive. Accounts for the sovereign grant -- which funds the queen and her household expenses show that the monarchy cost the British taxpayer 67 million pounds between 2018 and 19. A 41% increase from the previous financial year. To add to this, the royal prerogative gives extensive and unaccountable power to the royal family. The monarchy can exercise its judgement to influence government policy, political debates, the appointment of the next prime minister and the dissolution of the British parliament. The parliament, on the other hand, is simply prohibited from questioning the conduct of the royal family or discuss the future of the monarchy. The monarchy also undermines the proper recognition of merit as the hereditary head of state. The queen is the governor of the Church of England, the commander-in-chief of the armed forces and the 'fount of justice’ the head of the British judiciary. The monarchy says these are all ceremonial powers but according to a report by The Guardian, there have been at least 1,000 instances when the queen has been given a chance to shape draft legislation to suit her private wishes. In fact, in February this year, a report revealed how the queen had lobbied for changing a law to hide her wealth. The monarchy also makes it impossible to separate the church and state. For all its claims of being a multi-cultural and secular society, the Church of England discriminates in favour of one religion above all others. Because the queen is both the head of the church and the state, making it impossible to disconnect the two. Of course, the United Kingdom is not the only one. There are currently 43 monarchies globally. But only a few are constitutional monarchies. And even fewer insist on claiming the moral high ground of being a democracy. So should the UK abolish the monarchy? If Britain can leave the European Union in the name of sovereign rights, then why not? There's no other way to put it: Britain is in its worst shape since World War 2. This time, the enemy at the gates is invisible: the Wuhan virus. The pandemic continues to grow in the UK. More than 4 million cases and 124,000 deaths. The UK is the worst-affected country in Europe. Hundreds are still dying from the virus every day. And just as the vaccines emerged - so did a new variant, a more potent and more contagious mutation. Britain's response was more lockdowns. But that came at a cost. The country is going through its worst economic slump in three centuries. Jobs are disappearing, small businesses have been decimated. It will take at least two years before the economy reaches pre-pandemic levels. And we're not done listing Britain's economic woes just yet. The government has been on a borrowing spree since last year. The budget deficit is at its highest since World War 2. What Britain needs right now is some Churchillian steel to channel the guts of the greatest generation. The generation that braved the barrage of Nazi bombers, 70 years back. Instead, they're busy talking about an interview. At the outset - let's make one thing clear. We are not trivialising Meghan Markle's struggles. Her allegations are serious. The palace must be held to account for its actions. But does a family squabble qualify as public interest? At what point does fascination become an obsession? It's an unnecessary distraction, even for the government. The prime minister has to field questions about it. Even the White House has released a statement. We are in the middle of the world's largest vaccination drive. The pandemic is the only thing world leaders should be focusing on. But in Britain-- this has always been the case--daily life is shaped by royalty. Britons are urged to speak the Queen’s English. They gather under the flag and sing God Save the Queen. That's the British national anthem. They line the streets and go gaga over royal weddings. The same ones that they, the taxpayers, end up paying for. The monarchy is embedded in every Briton's DNA. But why? After all, the family doesn't do much. Other than wave and smile a lot. The royals have managed to convince the country that it needs them. That Britain would disintegrate without a king or queen. There's a common saying among royalists: Politicians may come and go, but the family remains. Humans love a sense of continuity. The idea of something that exists for posterity. The monarchy preys on this. It also explains all the pomp and show. Hundreds of years back - the British monarch was considered God's representative on earth. People aren't naive enough to believe that today. But the divine narrative remains. All the traditions, the coronation with holy oils, it's all part of the larger-than-life image. Royalists believe the monarch is endowed with God's mandate to rule. It's an unequal and unjust mandate. The family has its reasons for defending the monarchy. But why do people stick with it? The queen serves as a reminder of Britain's golden days. When it ruled the seas and had colonies on every continent. In other words, the monarchy is Britain's biggest colonial hangover. Many countries were ruled by monarchies in the middle ages. But as British historian Robert Lacey says, they were sensible and clever enough - to grow out of them.

Meghan-Harry interview and obsession with UK royals: Is it time to abolish the monarchy?

The White House said Monday that it took "courage" for Prince Harry and his wife Meghan to speak out in a bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey.

"For anyone to come forward and speak about their own struggles with mental health and tell their own personal story, that takes courage," President Joe Biden's press secretary, Jen Psaki, told reporters.

"We have a strong and abiding relationship with the British people and a special partnership with the government of the United Kingdom on a range of issues and that will continue," she said.

Harry, Meghan show 'courage' in airing mental health struggles: White House

Meghan Markle's interview has revealed the dark side of British royalty. Markel claims she was bullied. There was a 'discussion' about her son's skin. Markel says at one point - she even struggled with suicidal thoughts.

Gravitas: The dark side of British royalty

It was well worth the wait. The first joint interview with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle since they stepped down from royal life last year (a process that became officially permanent last month) did not disappoint.

I, for one, watched this tell-all with Oprah Winfrey while texting with many of the same Black women with whom I watched their wedding in 2018. Back then, we shared OMG emojis because we were pleasantly surprised by the way Black culture was so powerfully celebrated and Markle’s African American identity so thoughtfully integrated into their ceremony at St. George’s Chapel.

Now, we were aghast at the couple’s allegations that racism toward Markle and its various consequences were a primary reason they fled their home to find freedom in sunny California.

Based on Markle’s deep commitment to women’s rights and the interview’s promo clip — Winfrey asks her, “Were you silent or were you silenced?” — I went into this assuming it would be a feminist revision of the couple’s fairy tale romance.

“The latter,” Markle responded in the interview. Later, she’d compare her life as a royal to Princess Ariel losing her voice after falling in love with a human in “The Little Mermaid.” In that analogy, this interview is the final breaking of that spell, with Markle now fully in control of her voice. It reminded us that she never needed a Prince Charming to rescue her, while showing us that their very modern marriage is what saved and ultimately liberated them both from the trappings and the trap that it is the Crown.

But therein lies the true catalyst for their radical reinvention: Harry’s racial awakening. Here, I do not just mean the accusations from the couple about the deep anxiety some royals had about the potential skin color of their son, Archie — which resulted, they said, in him not being offered the traditional rituals of the royal hospital picture, the title “Prince” and the security that comes with that status. Rather, the second hour of the interview was a culmination of a process that Harry had been undergoing since their first date in 2016, when he was becoming more clear-eyed, confrontational and emboldened to take on the British monarchy into which he was born, and the white privilege that holds it up and has benefited him his entire life.

Typically, we see racial awakenings as a tragic rite of passage for Black people. In slave narratives and early 20th-century African American autobiographies and novels, there is often a moment in which a Black child realizes she is not only different from her white peers but that her darker skin or African American parentage makes her inferior to them. Literary critic Henry Louis Gates Jr. once described it as a “scene of instruction.” In books like W.E.B. DuBois’ collection “The Souls of Black Folks,” from 1903, or Nella Larsen’s novel “Passing,” from 1929, this traumatic rupture is always intimate and severe, the first and most formative experience in a lifetime of racist insults.

As Black parents, we try to prepare our children for these inevitable encounters with The Talk, the sage advice and survival strategies we hope might blunt the damage of these betrayals. But every Black person I know has had such a moment. Mine was my senior year in high school when my white classmates charged that the only reason I had been admitted to the University of Pennsylvania was because of affirmative action, an insinuation that equated being Black with being underqualified, and an injury that has caused me to obsessively overachieve in almost every aspect of my professional life.

I’ve rarely heard white friends discuss their parallel experiences of first realizing their privilege. In fact, this past summer was unprecedented in the sheer number of public figures and predominantly white organizations that released statements or tweets acknowledging their role in perpetuating systemic racism. In private, I and many of my Black friends received more sympathetic emails or Black Lives Matter solidarity texts from our white colleagues than ever before. It seemed, suddenly, white people too were having their own version of The Talk.

And in popular culture, these awakenings are appearing with more frequency. In this season of NBC’s “This Is Us,” Randall’s white siblings, Kate and Kevin, are, as a result of the Black Lives Matter protests this past summer, slowly coming to terms with how much their own white household, and their ongoing refusal to deal with racism, has harmed their African American brother, who was adopted.

Without such recognition by our white family members and friends, racial inferiority is merely thrust onto Black people as a unique burden that we must bear, disprove of and reject. This innocence is at the core of white privilege, and by extension, white power.

Back in 2005, when Harry wore a Nazi uniform to a costume party, it would have been impossible to predict his trajectory. By last fall, however, his awakening was well underway, with him talking about how his marriage to Markle immediately changed his understanding of race.

“I had no idea it existed,” he said of unconscious bias in British GQ. “And then, sad as it is to say, it took me many, many years to realize it, especially then living a day or a week in my wife’s shoes.”

Sunday night, he took it a step further. First, he noted how “the race element” distinguished the tabloid frenzy surrounding Markle from others in the past.

“It wasn’t just about her, it was about what she represents,” he said. Next, he indicted his family for not taking on the racist attacks hurled at their own, and then linked their institutionalized reticence or refusal to intervene to Britain’s much longer history of imperialism.

That the couple landed in the United States during a pandemic that has disproportionately harmed African American and Latino families, and in a period of racial protest and rising white nationalism, feels a bit like jumping out of the frying pan into the fire.

But maybe that’s the point.

Freed from the constraints of not being able to confront racism head-on might mean that he will dedicate his life to dismantling it, not just out of necessity but also as a way of writing a new chapter in his family’s history and bequeath his children a legacy of anti-racism.

And if that is the case, it really will be better than any fairy tale ever imagined.

It was well worth the wait. The first joint interview with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle since they stepped down from royal life last year (a process that became officially permanent last month) did not disappoint.

By last fall, however, his awakening was well underway, with him talking about how his marriage to Markle immediately changed his understanding of race. “I had no idea it existed,” he said of unconscious bias in British GQ. “And then, sad as it is to say, it took me many, many years to realize it, especially then living a day or a week in my wife’s shoes.” Sunday night, he took it a step further.

Prince Harry finally takes on white privilege: His own

Some 17.1 million Americans watched Oprah Winfrey`s bombshell television interview with Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, broadcaster CBS said on Monday.

CBS said Sunday`s two-hour interview, in which Harry and Meghan accused the royal family of racism and of failing to protect them from negative media coverage, drew the biggest audience for any entertainment special since the Oscars telecast in February 2020, which was watched by 23.6 million viewers.
It was also the most-watched non-Super Bowl event on a Sunday in prime time in over a year, CBS said. The National Football League`s Super Bowl regularly draws an audience of around 100 million and is the highest-rated TV event in the United States.

Sunday`s interview was the first given by the couple since they stepped back from the British royal family a year ago. Meghan spoke of feeling suicidal while Harry said his father, Prince Charles, had let him down.

The interview will be broadcast in Britain on Monday night. Buckingham Palace has yet to comment on their remarks.

Markle and his daughter have been estranged since her marriage to Prince Harry in 2018. Markle, a former lighting director for US TV soaps and sitcoms, pulled out of the wedding days beforehand after undergoing heart surgery.

In May 2018, just a week before Meghan and Prince Harry's royal wedding, UK Tabloid The Mail on Sunday had published a report claiming Meghan's father had teamed with the paparazzi to stage photos of himself preparing for his daughter's wedding day.

Meghan, on Sunday, also addressed her 'betrayal' while speaking to Oprah Winfrey, and recalled how the UK media had even hounded her parents in days prior to her wedding.

She said, "There was such an obsession with anything in my world, including tracking down my parents, and I did everything I could to protect both of them in that media frenzy."

Meghan added, "But for over a year, the UK tabloids were trying to find my dad, offering people so much money to try to find his address. Once they did, I remember being told, there was a huge headline like, 'We found him' or 'We've got him.' We're talking about someone's father. And from that point, the tabloids, they moved into the apartment next door and across from him, descended on this small town, giving him gifts. The whole thing brings us to where we are today."

"Did it feel like a betrayal, when you found out that your father was working with the tabloids," Oprah asked.

Meghan replied, "If we're going to use the word betrayal...it's because when I asked him…When we were told by the comms team this is a story that's going to be coming out—which, by the way, the tabloids had apparently known for a month or so and decided to hold until the Sunday before our wedding because they wanted to create drama, which is a really key point in all of this: They don't report the news, they create the news—we called my dad and we asked him, and he said, 'No, absolutely not.'"

Meghan Markle in explosive Oprah Winfrey interview: I didn't make Kate cry, reverse happened

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry opened up like never before in the Oprah Winfrey interview that aired on March 7 on CBS. From addressing rumours around who made who cry before her wedding with Harry, her equations with the royals, how baby Archie was perceived by the “institution” and having suicidal thoughts, Meghan and Harry gave explosive details of their life.

As the couple stepped back from their “royal duties” last year, Meghan revealed how baby Archie, before he was born, raised concerns among the royals of how dark his skin will be and whether they will consider making him a prince. Without naming anyone, Meghan said royals had “concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he is born.”

“In those months when I was pregnant ... we have in tandem the conversation of ‘He won’t be given security. He’s not going to be given a title,’ and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born,” she said.

The comments were made to Harry who then told her. When asked if she could identify them, Meghan said, “I think that would be very damaging to them.”

It all left a toll on Meghan’s mental health who revealed in the interview that she was suicidal. She had contemplated suicide prior to the couple’s break from the royal family. “I was really ashamed to say it at the time, ashamed to have to admit it to Harry — especially because I know how much loss he’s suffered. But I knew if I didn’t say it, that I would do it. I just didn’t want to be alive any more. That was a very clear and real and frightening constant thought. I remember how he just cradled me.”

Harry also said he has been cut off financially from his family since the first quarter of 2020. It’s only after that they signed deals with Netflix and Spotify. “That was never part of the plan,” Harry said. Financially, he said, he is dependent on the inheritance left to him by his mother, the late Princess Diana, who was similarly hounded by tabloids and paparazzi before her untimely death in 1997 at the age of 36.

Harry was cut off from father Prince Charles for the longest time when he “stopped taking calls”. However, the couple have good relations with Queen Elizabeth. Harry said, “I’ve spoken more to my grandmother in the last year than I have done for many, many years. My grandmother and I have a really good relationship, and an understanding, and I have a deep respect for her.”

On his love for elder brother Prince William, Harry said, “We’ve been through hell together. We have a shared experience. But we’re on different paths.” Pressed by Winfrey, Harry said, “The relationship is space at the moment. And time heals all things, hopefully.”

Meanwhile, Meghan Markle spoke about the “crying” episode that was the talk of the town as rumours went around that she made Kate Middleton cry before her wedding with Harry. Read details here.

Royal concerns on Archie's skin colour to having suicidal thoughts, Meghan Markle tells all in Oprah interview

A year after Meghan Markle married Prince Harry in a fairy-tale wedding, she said in an extraordinary interview broadcast on Sunday night, her life as a member of the British royal family had become so emotionally desolate that she contemplated suicide.

At another point, members of the family told Harry and Meghan, a biracial former actress from the United States, that they did not want the couple’s unborn child, Archie, to be a prince or princess and expressed concerns about how dark the color of the baby’s skin would be.

An emotional but self-possessed Meghan said of her suicidal thoughts: “I was ashamed to have to admit it to Harry. I knew that if I didn’t say it, I would do it. I just didn’t want to be alive anymore.”

Meghan, 39, made the disclosures in an eagerly anticipated, at times incendiary, interview on CBS with Oprah Winfrey that aired in the United States in prime time. In describing a royal life that began as a fairy tale but quickly turned suffocating and cruel, Meghan's blunt answers raised the combustible issues of race and privilege in the most rarefied echelon of British society.

For an American audience that has lapped up the palace intrigue depicted in the popular TV series 'The Crown,' it was the equivalent of an explosive bonus episode — one promoted in a week of charges and countercharges about the role Meghan played in the House of Windsor.

For the royal family, already preoccupied by the hospitalization of its patriarch, Prince Philip, it was both an embarrassing airing of dirty laundry and a painful reminder, a year after Harry and Meghan turned their backs on royal life, that the wounds from that rupture had yet to heal.

Meghan said that while her husband was deeply concerned about her emotional fragility — gripping her hand tightly at public events — her efforts to seek medical help were rebuffed by palace officials, who worried about the effect on the monarchy. She described herself as a sort of prisoner in Kensington Palace.

“I couldn’t just call an Uber to the palace,” she said.

Meghan did not say which family member had raised questions about her baby’s skin color, nor did she fully explain why the royal family had not automatically planned to confer a royal title, which would have provided security protection for the child. By convention, Archie would assume a royal title once his grandfather Prince Charles ascended to the throne.

Still, the lack of detail did not rob the moment of its power: Meghan's reference to her child’s skin tone provoked a stunned “what?” from Winfrey.

In other, less provocative disclosures, Meghan corrected the record on some family business and revealed the sex of their unborn child.

It was her sister-in-law, Kate, she said, who drove her to tears in a clash over dresses for the flower girls, rather than the reverse as had been widely reported. In another awkward encounter with of her own aides, she said that the aide told her she shouldn’t go out to lunch with friends because she was overexposed, even though she had left her residence only twice in four months.

Harry and Meghan disclosed that their second child, due this summer, will be a girl.

Meghan, her baby bump clearly visible, spoke casually and with humor about her early encounters with her future in-laws. She described learning how to curtsy moments before she was introduced to Queen Elizabeth II, with whom she said she always had a warm relationship, and insisted she knew nothing about what was going to be expected of her as a working royal.

“I didn’t do any research about what that would mean,” she said. “I never looked up my husband online.”

Harry, who joined Meghan for the second half of the interview, said the couple broke away because of a lack of support or understanding from his family, particularly about the racism that he said his wife confronted in news coverage.

“No one from my family said anything over those three years,” Harry said.

The prince, who remains sixth in line to the throne, described being financially cut off by his family after he and Meghan announced plans to withdraw from royal duties. He said his relationship with his father was particularly strained — Charles stopped taking his calls at one point — because “there’s a lot of hurt that has happened.”

On both sides of the Atlantic, this was the most eagerly anticipated royal interview since Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, told the BBC in 1995 that “there were three of us in this marriage,” referring to her husband, Charles, and his extramarital relationship with Camilla Parker Bowles, whom he later married.

Like Meghan, Diana was a glamorous outsider who brought a shower of stardust to the House of Windsor when she married Charles, only to become deeply unhappy within the confines of royal life. Unlike Meghan, her marriage crumbled amid competing claims of infidelity, and by the time she spoke to the BBC journalist, Martin Bashir, she said the palace viewed her as a “threat of some kind.”

A vivid bookend to her turbulent years in the royal family, Diana’s interview was a pop-cultural moment that drew one of the largest British television audiences in history, lived on in parodies on “Saturday Night Live,” and deepened the media’s fathomless hunger for all things Diana. Two years later, she was dead in Paris, the victim of a car crash after a high-speed chase with photographers.

Harry invoked that tragedy with Winfrey, saying of his wife’s recurring clashes with the tabloid press, “My biggest concern was history repeating itself.” He has long blamed journalists for his mother’s death and said one of the reasons the couple moved to California was to escape the unrelenting media glare.

Even Meghan’s choice of wardrobe seemed calculated to telegraph the message of a new start. Her elegant black dress, designed by Giorgio Armani, featured a striking lotus flower design that her staff said symbolized revival and a will to live. She also wore a diamond tennis bracelet that once belonged to Diana.

But the couple’s effort to relaunch their public image did not go unchallenged back home. In the days leading up to the broadcast, new allegations surfaced that Meghan had bullied members of her staff, reducing junior aides to tears and driving two personal assistants out of the palace. Meghan dismissed the claims as character assassination, while Buckingham Palace said it would look into them.

“What is going on is a significant struggle for the control of the narrative,” said Peter Hunt, a former BBC royal correspondent. “What is our settled judgment for why Harry and Meghan left the royal family? Do we accept two hours of Oprah or do we believe those charges of bullying?”

Early headlines in the British tabloids suggested that Meghan’s bombshells will reverberate for weeks. “I wanted to kill myself,” said a headline on The Daily Mail’s website. “I felt suicidal,” said a headline on The Sun’s site.

Meghan has no shortage of defenders. Patrick J. Adams, an actor who worked with her on the television series, “Suits,” described her on Twitter last week as having “a deep sense of morality and a fierce work ethic.” The royal family, Adams said, was “obscene” to promote accusations of bullying against her.

Critics have long detected a whiff of racism in how some people react to Meghan, a professional woman who had been divorced before she met Harry. While initially rapturous in their coverage of the couple, Britain’s tabloids turned against them, publishing unflattering articles about how they flew on carbon-spewing private jets and restricted access to their newborn son.

Some also point out the hypocrisy of Buckingham Palace investigating claims of bullying against Meghan when Prince Andrew, the queen’s second son and Harry’s uncle, has declined to speak to U.S. authorities about allegations of sex trafficking by his late friend, the convicted sexual predator Jeffrey Epstein.

Though British papers have covered every conceivable angle of the interview, some made clear there were limits to the interest it was generating. The Sunday Times of London reported that the queen herself had no plans to watch the program, which is quite predictable, since it aired after midnight London time. It was to be shown on Monday evening on Britain’s ITV network.

Others in Britain tried to play down its significance, pointing out that there are other more important things going on in the country: Schools are to reopen on Monday, and the coronavirus vaccine rollout continues at full speed. At least one prominent British leader said he had no plans to stay up for it.

“Of course, I’m interested in all sorts of stuff around the news around the world,” Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Sunday, when asked about Harry and Meghan. “I think it’s quite late our time, so I’ll probably miss it.”

A year after Meghan Markle married Prince Harry in a fairy-tale wedding, she said in an extraordinary interview broadcast on Sunday night, her life as a member of the British royal family had become so emotionally desolate that she contemplated suicide.

I just didn’t want to be alive anymore.” Meghan, 39, made the disclosures in an eagerly anticipated, at times incendiary, interview on CBS with Oprah Winfrey that aired in the United States in prime time. “I never looked up my husband online.” Harry, who joined Meghan for the second half of the interview, said the couple broke away because of a lack of support or understanding from his family, particularly about the racism that he said his wife confronted in news coverage. “No one from my family said anything over those three years,” Harry said. The prince, who remains sixth in line to the throne, described being financially cut off by his family after he and Meghan announced plans to withdraw from royal duties. He said his relationship with his father was particularly strained — Charles stopped taking his calls at one point — because “there’s a lot of hurt that has happened.” On both sides of the Atlantic, this was the most eagerly anticipated royal interview since Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, told the BBC in 1995 that “there were three of us in this marriage,” referring to her husband, Charles, and his extramarital relationship with Camilla Parker Bowles, whom he later married. Like Meghan, Diana was a glamorous outsider who brought a shower of stardust to the House of Windsor when she married Charles, only to become deeply unhappy within the confines of royal life. Unlike Meghan, her marriage crumbled amid competing claims of infidelity, and by the time she spoke to the BBC journalist, Martin Bashir, she said the palace viewed her as a “threat of some kind.” A vivid bookend to her turbulent years in the royal family, Diana’s interview was a pop-cultural moment that drew one of the largest British television audiences in history, lived on in parodies on “Saturday Night Live,” and deepened the media’s fathomless hunger for all things Diana. Do we accept two hours of Oprah or do we believe those charges of bullying?” Early headlines in the British tabloids suggested that Meghan’s bombshells will reverberate for weeks. The appearance has, apparently, been timed considering the airing of the tell-all interview and the recent announcement by Buckingham Palace claiming that they are currently probing allegations against Meghan Markle of bullying the royal staff.

"Let’s just call this what it is – a calculated smear campaign based on misleading and harmful misinformation," a statement from the Sussexes claimed.

Chrissy Teigen defends pregnant Meghan Markle, ‘They won’t stop until she miscarries’

The Mail On Sunday, part of a UK newspaper group that lost a high-profile privacy case brought by Meghan Markle, must print a front-page statement acknowledging her legal victory, a judge ruled on Friday.

High Court judge Mark Warby also ordered Associated Newspapers, which owns the Mail On Sunday and MailOnline website, to publish a notice on page three of the paper stating that it had "infringed her copyright".

Warby in February upheld Meghan's claim that Associated Newspapers had breached her privacy and copyright by publishing parts of a 2018 letter she sent to her father Thomas Markle.

The letter to her estranged father was written a few months after she married Queen Elizabeth II's grandson, Prince Harry, and asked him to stop talking to tabloids and making false claims about her in interviews.

Warby has already ordered Associated Newspapers to make an "interim payment" of £450,000 ($627,000) to cover legal costs for the Duchess of Sussex, as Meghan is formally known.

On Friday he also formally refused its appeal bid, saying the newspaper group had "no real prospect" of success.

In his written ruling, the judge said the front- and third-page statements about Meghan's successful copyright claim would have "genuine utility".

He noted the Associated Newspapers titles involved had "devoted a very considerable amount of space to the infringing articles, which it continued to publish for over two years".

"The wording sought is modest by comparison, and factual in nature," Warby added of the notices he was ordering.

Meghan, 39, and 36-year-old Harry, who now live in the United States after stepping down from frontline royal duties last year, have taken legal action against a number of publications, alleging invasion of privacy.

The couple have been in the headlines all week after becoming embroiled in a transatlantic war of words with Buckingham Palace ahead of their blockbuster interview with Oprah Winfrey, set to air Sunday.

By calling Royal Family 'shameless' and their actions 'obscene' the actor said "It’s OBSCENE that the Royal Family, who’s the newest member is currently GROWING INSIDE OF HER, is promoting and amplifying accusations of “bullying” against a woman who herself has basically forced to flea the UK in order protect her family and her own mental health. IMO, this newest chapter and its timing is just another stunning example of the shamelessness of an institution that has outlived its relevance, is way overdrawn on credibility and apparently bankrupt of decency. Find someone else to admonish, berate and torment. My friend Meghan is way out of your league."

From day one she was an enthusiastic, kind, cooperative, giving, joyful and supportive member of our television family. She remained that person and colleague as fame, prestige and power accrued. — Patrick J Adams (@halfadams) March 5, 2021 × "It sickened me to read the endless racist, slanderous, click-baiting vitriol spewed in her direction from all manner of media across the UK and the world but I also knew that Meghan was stronger than people realized or understood and they would regret underestimating her. And then they welcomed Archie. And on any sort of decent planet that would be a time to stop sharpening the knives and let these two people enjoy the magical early months and years of starting a family. But we don’t live on that planet and instead the hunt continued." She has always been a powerful woman with a deep sense of morality and a fierce work ethic and has never been afraid to speak up, be heard and defend herself and those she holds dear. Like the rest of the world, I have watched her navigate the last few years in astonishment. — Patrick J Adams (@halfadams) March 5, 2021 × By calling Royal Family 'shameless' and their actions 'obscene' the actor said "It’s OBSCENE that the Royal Family, who’s the newest member is currently GROWING INSIDE OF HER, is promoting and amplifying accusations of “bullying” against a woman who herself has basically forced to flea the UK in order protect her family and her own mental health. IMO, this newest chapter and its timing is just another stunning example of the shamelessness of an institution that has outlived its relevance, is way overdrawn on credibility and apparently bankrupt of decency. Find someone else to admonish, berate and torment. My friend Meghan is way out of your league." Gravitas: Meghan Markle accuses Royal Family of 'perpetuating falsehoods'

Prince Harry`s wife Meghan has accused Buckingham Palace of "perpetuating falsehoods" about her and her spouse, saying the royal couple would not be silent in telling their story.

Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, made the comments to American talk show host Oprah Winfrey in an interview about why they quit their royal roles that is due to be broadcast on U.S. television on Sunday.

An advance excerpt of the interview was released on Wednesday, hours after Buckingham Palace said it was "very concerned" about reports in the Times newspaper that assistants working for Meghan two years ago had been bullied by her. Harry and Meghan issued a statement denying that she had bullied anyone.

"How do you feel about the Palace hearing you speak your truth today?" Winfrey asks Meghan in the excerpt.

Meghan responded: "I don`t know how they could expect that after all of this time we would still just be silent, if there is an active role that The Firm is playing in perpetuating falsehoods about us." The Firm is the name that the British royal family sometimes uses to describe itself.

"And if that comes with risk of losing things, I mean, there`s a lot that`s been lost already," Meghan added. The interview was recorded before The Times newspaper ran a report citing unnamed sources as saying an aide to Harry and Meghan had raised a complaint in October 2018 alleging that Meghan had reduced some of her assistants to tears and treated others so badly that they had quit.

The paper said Harry had urged the aide, who has now left their staff, to drop the complaint, and it never progressed.
The Times said it had been contacted by former staff members who wanted the public to gain insight before the Winfrey interview aired - and that lawyers for the couple had labelled the allegations a smear orchestrated by the Palace.

Reuters could not independently verify the report. "We are clearly very concerned about allegations in The Times following claims made by former staff of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex," Buckingham Palace said in a statement.

The Royal Household "does not and will not tolerate bullying or harassment in the workplace", it added. It said its HR team would look into the allegations, and that members of staff involved at the time would be invited to participate.

A spokeswoman for Meghan said earlier that she was "saddened by this latest attack on her character, particularly as someone who has been the target of bullying herself and is deeply committed to supporting those who have experienced pain and trauma".

That decision was confirmed last month when they also handed over all their royal patronages. They said their move was fuelled in part by intense press intrusion.

According to the report in The Times, the complaint was made in October 2018 by the couple's former communications secretary Jason Knauf who claimed that Meghan compelled two personal assistants to quit their jobs and undermined the confidence of a third staff member.

Knauf reportedly submitted the complaint in an effort to protect other palace staffers who were allegedly bullied by the Duchess of Sussex and even reduced to tears at times. One royal aide, who anticipated a confrontation with Meghan, is alleged to have told a colleague, "I can't stop shaking."
A source told The Times that when Harry first heard of Knauff's complaint, he pleaded with him not to pursue the HR complaint.

Buckingham Palace launches probe after former staffer accuses Meghan Markle of bullying

Meghan Markle has been awarded $625,000 in legal costs after winning a privacy and copyright infringement case against a UK based tabloid.

Duchess Meghan of Sussex wins privacy claim against UK newspaper

Meghan, Britain`s Duchess of Sussex, is seeking 1.5 million pounds ($2.1 million) in legal costs after she won a privacy claim against the Mail on Sunday which had printed extracts of a letter she wrote to her father.

Last month, a judge at London`s High Court ruled the tabloid had breached her privacy and infringed her copyright by publishing parts of the five-page letter she wrote to her father Thomas Markle who she fell out with on the eve of her wedding to Queen Elizabeth`s grandson, Prince Harry.

Judge Mark Warby ruled in her favour without holding a trial, saying the articles were a clear breach of privacy after the paper argued the duchess had intended the letter’s contents to become public and it formed part of a media strategy.

At a hearing on Tuesday to determine costs and other unresolved issues, documents submitted to the court showed that Meghan`s lawyers had asked for 1.5 million pounds in legal fees, with half the amount to be paid within 14 days.

Her legal team has also demanded the paper hands over any copies it has of the letter, and called for the judge to order the paper to publish a statement on its front page stating she had won her case, with a notice also placed on the MailOnline`s home page for "not less than 6 months".

"The first reason why the claimant seeks an order for publication and dissemination is to act as a deterrent to future infringers," her lawyers wrote in their submission.

Meghan Markle wore Princess Diana's bracelet for her interview with Oprah. Here's why

Her lawyer Ian Mill told the hearing that they were not seeking to punish the paper, and would accept nominal damages based on the profits the Mail made from its articles, saying this was a "proportionate" way forward.

The Mail is seeking permission to appeal Warby`s ruling and also argues that other issues such as whether Meghan had sole ownership of copyright to the letter needed to be addressed.

As regards to Meghan`s decision to only seek nominal damages, the paper`s lawyers wrote: "No purpose would be served by a hearing to determine the precise amount, which by definition is not relevant. It is suggested that 1 pound, 2 pounds or 5 pounds would do."

Meghan, 39, and husband Harry, 39, have rarely been off the front pages of Britain`s newspapers in the last month, having announced they were expecting their second child, followed by news of their final split with the royal family, following their decision to move to California last year.

On Sunday, a highly-anticipated in-depth interview they gave to U.S. chat show queen Oprah Winfrey will be aired.

The two trailers that have been released by the CBS channel, shows Meghan wearing a bracelet that originally belonged to Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana.

According to reports, the bracelet was most notably used to craft Markle’s engagement ring in 2017 when Harry took two stones from his late mother’s piece of jewellery to compose the Duchess’ sparkler.

Markle’s ring ultimately featured the stones from Diana’s bracelet, which surround one large stone from the country of Botswana — a country dear to Harry’s heart.

Markle, in fact, has worn her late mother-in-law's jewellery from time to time.

In 2018, Markle was spotted donning Diana’s butterfly earrings and gold bracelet as she attended events in Sydney, Australia, during her royal tour with and Prince Harry.

The earrings were worn by Diana in 1986 for her trip to Canada, a year after she gave birth to her second son.

The trailer that has been released shows Harry mentioning his late mother, who had to find her way alone after she and Prince Charles divorced.

"I’m just really relieved and happy to be sitting here talking to you with my wife by my side because I can’t begin to imagine what it must have been like for her going through this process by herself all those years ago," the 36-year-old said of Diana, adding, "because it’s been unbelievably tough for the two of us. But at least we have each other."

The interview- which many are terming as 'explosive'- will air on March 7.

Meghan Markle wore Princess Diana's bracelet for her interview with Oprah. Here's why

It's going to be the interview of the year. Britain's Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle sat down for a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey. The interview is scheduled to air on March 7 and a week earlier, the trailer was unveiled -giving a glimpse of what to expect.

The CBS broadcast network released two brief clips from Winfrey`s interview with the couple, which is scheduled to air on March 7. It is the first TV interview the couple, formally known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, have given since making their homes in California last year.

"My biggest concern was history repeating itself," Harry said, apparently referring to his mother Princess Diana, who was hounded by the British press and died at age 36 in a car crash in Paris after her divorce from Prince Charles.

Harry, 36, was seated next to Meghan, 39, and holding her hand. The couple announced on Feb14 that they were expecting their second child together.
"I`m just really relieved and happy to be sitting here talking to you with my wife by my side," Harry said. "Because I can`t imagine what it must have been like for her (Diana), going through this process by herself all those years ago.

"It`s been unbelievably tough for the two of us, but at least we had each other," Harry added.

In the clips, Winfrey said that no subject was off-limits and at one point tells the couple "you have said some pretty shocking things here," including that their situation had been "almost unsurvivable."

Before they moved to California, the couple had complained about the British tabloids` treatment of Meghan, whose father is white and mother is African-American, some of which they said amounted to bullying or racism.

Earlier this month, Buckingham Palace announced that the couple would not be returning to their lives as working members of the royal family.

The royal family reportedly is not very happy about the couple's interview with Oprah. Harry's elder brother, Prince William has expressed displeasure at the move, state royal insiders.

The interview will be aired hours after Queen Elizabeth addresses the commonwealth countries in a televised speech.

First trailer of Harry and Meghan's explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey is out: 'No subject is off limits'

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have made a few changes to their Archewell Foundation website.

According to Us Weekly, the royal couple appears to have edited the website and removed personal photos of the royal prince. The series of photos missing from the site includes that of Prince Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana, as well as an image of Meghan with her mom Doria.

The site previously paired these images with the message,“I am my mother’s son. And I am our son’s mother. Together we bring you Archewell. We believe in the best of humanity. Because we have seen the best of humanity. We have experienced compassion and kindness, from our mothers and strangers alike.”

Archewell’s homepage now shows Meghan and Harry doing charity work, along with the slightly less personal message,“Welcome to Archewell. Through our non-profit work, as well as creative activations, we drive systemic cultural change across all communities, one act of compassion at a time.”

This change comes post the Sussexes officially stepped away from senior royal duties and were relieved of their patronages.

The couple will be seen next in a tell-all interview with Oprah where absolutely nothing is off the table. Meghan is expected to cover“everything from stepping into life as a royal, marriage, motherhood, philanthropic work to how she is handling life under intense public pressure,” while Harry will then join her to talk about“their move to the United States and their future hopes and dreams for their expanding family.”
