There is no confirmed development about Nawaz Sharif's possible return but a majority of the party's parliamentarians want him to return to the country to save his party which is sailing through pretty turbulent waters.

Maryam Nawaz hints at 'certain problems' hindering Nawaz return

Maryam Nawaz, leader of the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz), has said that fighting between the two mainstream political parties is not in the best interest of Pakistan.

Maryam, who is the daughter of former Pakistani premier Nawaz Sharif, has for the first time offered a "hand of friendship" to ousted leader Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

While addressing a rally of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party in Multan city of Punjab province, she said ''I don't want to fight with the PTI. I want Pakistan to progress and for this, I offer a hand of friendship, peace, and love to the PTI youth and its supporters. I first take this initiative only for Pakistan. I also ask Imran Khan to let the country progress.''

Highlighting that her "offer of peace" should not be taken as a weakness, she warned the former prime minister Khan against a "tit-for-tat" response.

Ahead of the crucial by-polls in Punjab province, Imran Khan is campaigning across the country for 20 assembly seats in the country's most populous province.

After the election commission disqualified members of Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, the machinations led to a change of government in the province. Currently, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's son Hamza Sharif is the chief minister of the province.

Giving lengthy speeches claiming the government was imposed on Pakistan by a US-led conspiracy, Khan has drawn thousands to rallies across the country since being deposed.

In order to avoid ceding control of the assembly to the PTI and its allies, the Pakistan Muslim League-N party needs to win at least half the 20 seats up for grabs in Punjab.

Fighting between two mainstream political parties is not in best interest of Pakistan: Maryam Nawaz

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan is facing backlash for his misogynistic comments on Maryam Nawaz during a rally in Multan.

While addressing the rally, Khan said "Maryam Nawaz, you shouldn't be taking my name this much, your husband can become insecure."

His sexist statement, which reeks of innuendo, has been criticised by Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who condemned the "deplorable language used against the daughter of the nation Maryam Nawaz."

"Your crimes against the country and the nation cannot be hidden under your lowly humour. How could those -- who cannot respect the sanctity of Masjid Nabawi (PBUH) -- be expected to respect the honour of someone's mothers, sisters, and daughters?" he tweeted.

Imran Khan's foreign conspiracy claim is fake, says Maryam Nawaz

The "threat letter," which Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan described as evidence of a "foreign conspiracy" against his government, was drafted by Ministry of Foreign Affairs staff, according to PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz.

Maryam Nawaz questioned why Prime Minister Imran Khan is not displaying the alleged threatening letter, claiming that no such letter existed.

Maryam Nawaz inquired as to why Pakistan's envoy to the United States, who had received the threatening letter, had been relocated to Brussels.

She demanded that the envoy be brought before the Supreme Court.

"Pakistan's ambassador to the US was abruptly relocated to Brussels a day before Imran Khan released the letter to the public," she said at a press conference in Lahore.

Threat letter shown by PM Imran Khan was drafted by Pakistan's foreign office: Maryam Nawaz

Many years ago, author Salman Rushdie quipped of cricketer-turned-politician and Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, "Back in the day, when he was a playboy in London, the most common nickname for him was 'Im the Dim.'"

Dim, as in dimwitted, and a little slow in the head.

That sounds very unpleasant, but Imran Khan, facing the heat in Pakistan's politics, appears to be adamant about proving the assessment correct again and again.

Now, on April 3, Imran Khan called for fresh elections after a vote of no confidence against him was blocked in parliament.

Given the sheer number of controversies and mindless statements that Khan has made on a regular basis, there has scarcely been a moment of serenity in the 3.5 years since he came to power.

When you consider Khan's illustrious history as a star cricketer, his current pitiful predicament is incomprehensible.

The chasm between what he promised the people of Pakistan-a 'Naya' or new Pakistan devoid of corruption - and the steps, and people, he chose to fulfil those promises, was larger than anyone could have anticipated.

The religious fundamentalist 'Kaptaan'

In his cricketing days, Khan was a notorious playboy whose constant romances with new women made headlines.

His past indicated that he would at the very least keep an open mind, but in the course of appeasing Pakistan's religious fundamentalists, he utterly lost it.

He transformed his image from a famous cricketer to a politician busy appeasing the Pakistan Army and religious fundamentalists.

As a result of his political shift, Khan went from being a playboy to a staunch conservative.

The man who used to call London's Tramp nightclub his "home place" is now an anti-feminist.

In 2021, he blamed sexual violence against women on "vulgarity" in dressing: "Not every man has will power. If you keep on increasing vulgarity, it will have consequences." He also said in an interview that "If a woman is wearing very few clothes, it will have an impact on the men unless they are robots. It’s common sense."

Let's put that aside and return to his self-described populist, anti-corruption reformer political persona.

While it is true that Pakistan's economy and society were on life support long before Imran Khan joined power, it is no exaggeration to say that Khan has steadily and needlessly worsened the patient's condition.

His sincerity of intent will be judged by history, but his actions have been extremely harmful and ill-advised.

With the exception of a few misled journalists in Islamabad, his anti-Islamophobia campaign, which he launched from the big stage of the UN General Assembly, found few takers.

At a time when countries like Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar appear less interested in concerns like Palestine and Kashmir, the likely former prime minister stands out as an anachronism.

In his most recent 'Jalsa,' or rally, he looked almost humorous in his emphasis on his own honesty, reminding listeners of the dictum that those who are honest do not need to remind the world of their honesty at every chance.

On other occasions, particularly during the outcry against France, he did more harm than good by siding with the country's fundamentalist forces.

Of course, the harm was not limited to Khan's reputation in the west, but also to Pakistan's as a whole.

Imran Khan, the self-obsessed

The words "I," "myself," and "myself" were repeated 213 times in Khan's address to the nation last week ahead of Sunday's no-trust vote against him.

That sounded a lot like many of his previous narcissistic remarks. His controversial World Cup victory speech from 1992 is one of them.

He didn't mention the triumph in that address; instead, he talked about his off-field ambitions, the cancer hospital he seeks to develop.

He didn't even acknowledge or thank his teammates after the victory.

'Im the dim': How Pakistan PM Imran Khan turned out to be a terrible caricature of the champion cricketer

Maryam Nawaz, Vice-President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has stated that the moment has come to give Prime Minister Imran Khan the "final push" towards a loss.

Maryam Nawaz delivered a harsh attack on Imran Khan in her address to the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) in Islamabad on Monday, criticising his economic, governance, and diplomatic policies.

The proceedings were deferred until March 31 after a no-confidence motion against Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was tabled in the National Assembly with a total of 161 votes in favour.

On March 8, the opposition parties filed a motion of no confidence in the government.

Because several PTI legislators have come out openly against Prime Minister Imran Khan, the Opposition is certain that its motion will be passed.

The Pakistani National Assembly has a total of 342 members, with 172 constituting a majority.

The PTI led coalition was formed with the support of 179 members, with Imran Khan`s PTI having 155 members, and four major allies Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) and Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) having seven, five, five and three members respectively.

Imran Khan's position is fragile, since three of his four allies, the MQM-P, the PML-Q, and the BAP, have expressed support for the Opposition's no-confidence resolution and declared that they will vote accordingly.

Also read | No-confidence resolution against PM Imran Khan tabled in Pak Parliament Because several PTI legislators have come out openly against Prime Minister Imran Khan, the Opposition is certain that its motion will be passed. Pakistan PM Imran Khan-led govt 'illegitimate, incompetent', says PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz

Maryam Nawaz, the Vice President of the Pakistan Muslim League (N), slammed the Imran Khan-led PTI government on Saturday, stating that Prime Minister's electoral symbol should now be a "thief" rather than a cricket bat.

Maryam made the remarks while speaking at a political gathering in Sharda town of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), reported Geo News.

Imran Khan "stole the election" in 2018, according to the PML-N leader, using the cricket bat as a symbol.

People were overburdened by inflation, Maryam observed, and Imran Khan's name brought back "memories of long waits at sugar and flour stores."

"The mere mention of Imran Khan's name now evokes memories of people being robbed of wheat, sugar, and Kashmir," she explained.

Imran Khan's party symbol should be 'thief', not a cricket bat: Maryam Nawaz

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) vice president Maryam Nawaz on Sunday said that "it was time to stop giving sacrifices and demand accountability" from the Imran Khan-led government.

Speaking at a youth convention, the opposition leader also said that her father and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was removed in 2017 on false allegations, and vowed that the next government will be formed by the PML-N, while telling the incumbent government to count its days, reported Geo News.

"Even today, when they wish to strike against Nawaz Sharif, they have to arrest his brother and summon his daughter before National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in a political case," she said.

This statement comes after NAB has summoned Maryam on March 26 to respond in a case pertaining to the acquisition of land in Raiwind as well as the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case, reported Geo News.

The PML-N will fight against NAB "with all their might if NAB causes any problems, said the PML-N leader, while remarking that the bureau is sore that their 'master Imran Khan' is being exposed in front of everyone for robbing the people of wheat, sugar, gas, electricity and their votes.

"They were so scared of the long march that they summoned me the very day the long march was (previously) scheduled," she maintained.

Maryam further said that if the 'fake government' had any real sway, then the 'fake' Imran Khan would not have been in the state he is today despite having forcibly obtained election results in his favour, according to Geo News.

She also credited the former Chief Minister of Punjab province, Shehbaz Sharif, for leaving behind a 'sparklingly clean Punjab', which has now been reduced to a 'mound of garbage'.

"PML-N knows that if it allows the government to continue for the next two-and-a-half years, its name might be erased from the pages of history, but the PM has the gall to say he will mobilise the public against the Opposition," she further said.

"Wherever there is an election, Inshaallah Nawaz Sharif will win [...] and wherever there is election rigging and underhanded dealing, you will see that we have lost," Maryam Nawaz remarked.

Pakistan opposition leader Maryam Nawaz said the trust vote secured by Prime Minister Imran Khan in National Assembly has 'no worth' as he had forced lawmakers on gunpoint to vote for him.

Speaking to reporters just after the conclusion of the National Assembly (NA) session, Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) leader Maryam said that the government turned the Parliament lodges into a bunker and government members were assigned to each of the 16 MNAs, who had allegedly sold their votes in the Senate polls to ensure their presence for the vote of confidence, Dawn reported.

"What worth does a vote have that you got by telling [MNAs] on gunpoint: 'Give me the vote or I won't spare you'?" she asked. Pakistan Opposition on Saturday rejected the confidence vote cast in favour of the country's Prime Minister Imran Khan during a National Assembly (NA) session, said Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) and JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

Speaking to media in Sukkur just after the NA session concluded, Rehman said that the Constitution clearly stated that the president can summon a session "if he believes that the prime minister does not hold majority", Dawn reported.

Earlier in the day, Imran Khan won a trust vote in the National Assembly (NA) with his party securing votes above a majority mark in the 342-member lower house of parliament.

Khan decided to take a vote of confidence after finance minister Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, on Wednesday, faced a drubbing in the Senate election, reinforcing the Opposition to demand the Prime Minister's resignation.

"Here, the session was called over a summary by the fake prime minister. Summary is not involved in summoning such sessions, all of this is a drama," said the JUI-F chief, who is not part of the NA.

"We don't accept today's Assembly session, nor do we accept the confidence vote. This was not a confidence vote. We know which agencies watched the members of the assembly the entire night. [We know] who knocked on the doors of each member to ensure they were present," he added.

Rehman, who is the chief of the opposition alliance PDM, alleged that MNAs were 'forcefully' made to vote for Prime Minister Imran. He urged the premier to 'be courageous and ask the public to cast a vote of confidence [by] conducting a new election'.

(With inputs from agencies)

Trust vote won by Pak PM has 'no worth', says Maryam Nawaz

Amid the growing atrocities against the minority communities of Pakistan, PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz has asked Prime Minister Imran Khan to speak to the relatives of the Baloch missing persons, who are protesting in Islamabad against the various human rights violations, including the issue of enforced disappearances.

"You are placed in the corridors of power," Maryam said on Wednesday, in a message to the Pakistan’s prime minister as she visited the protest site in the D-Chowk area, Geo News reported.

"It is your duty to listen to these people," Maryam added. This comes as protests are being held in Islamabad against forced abduction, torture, and harassment by the Pakistani agencies.

The protest is being held in a bid to highlight the plight of minority communities in the different regions of Pakistan. There is a long history of enforced disappearances in Balochistan. While thousands of Balochs have been abducted and disappeared since its illegal occupation, hundreds of others have been eliminated in the line with Pakistan's 'kill and dump' policy. Thousands still remain unaccounted for. Enforced disappearance has been used as a tool by the Pakistani state to silence the oppressed people of Balochistan since the very first day of its occupation.

While countless abductees have been killed, many of them are still facing inhumane torture in army secrets cells. Enforced disappearances have been an old stain on Pakistan's human rights record.

Despite the pledges of successive governments to criminalise the practice, there has been a very slow movement on legislation, which is equal to nothing, while people continue to be forcibly disappeared with impunity.

Maryam Nawaz asks Pak PM to speak to Baloch missing persons’ kin

The Vice President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Maryam Nawaz criticised Prime Minister Imran Khan, urging voters to ensure that Khan does not return to the post.

While referring to "selectors", Nawaz said that the country has undergone many ordeals under the leadership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), news agency ANI reported.

"The country has been worn out but my dear selectors, do not do this with Pakistan again...I feel bad when people bad-mouth the selectors because after all, the institution is ours," Nawaz said during an election rally in Wazirabad.

"I say to Wazirabad police and administration... I know that you yourself are frustrated [but] the nation is looking at you; if you instead of serving the country and the people try to serve anyone else, try to steal the vote and make a lost person win, then remember, Imran Khan came once but now at least Punjab will not let him come [to power] again", Nawaz added.

Don't let Imran Khan come to power again, says Maryam Nawaz at a rally

Pakistan's deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif's daughter Maryam Nawaz said on Monday that she will not leave the country to join her father in London for her treatment despite the Imran Khan government's apparent offer to go abroad.

"Even if someone (from the government) comes to my home and offers me to go abroad, I will decline it straight away," she said while talking to reporters at her Jati Umra Raiwind residence here.

"I know some ministers are saying that if Maryam is allowed to go abroad the opposition's movement (against the government) will fizzle out. But let me make it clear that I will not leave my country come what may, and will not seek the removal of my name from the no-fly list," she said.

The PML-N vice president further said that she had to undergo a 'little surgery' which is not possible in Pakistan. "But despite this, I will not leave Pakistan. I will live and die in my country," she asserted.

Pakistan Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has said that the PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif's passport will be cancelled on February 16.

Sharif has been living in London since November 2019 after he was allowed to leave the country for medical treatment.

Adviser to the Prime Minister on Accountability and Interior Mirza Shahzad Akbar said that United Kingdom authorities had been asked to deport the convicted former prime minister from their country.

He said Pakistan had written a letter to the UK to cancel the visa of Sharif which was issued for medical treatment after taking an undertaking.

Prime Minister Imran Khan in October said he would contact British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, if needed, to discuss his deportation and his adviser Akbar wrote a letter to British Home Secretary Priti Patel on October 5 urging her to deport the former premier whom he said is responsible for pillaging the state.

Maryam has alleged that the "selectors" (a reference to the army chief Gen Bajwa and others) are being questioned within the institution regarding imposing inept and incompetent Imran Khan on the nation.

"Now voices are being raised within the institution for imposing this incompetent Imran on the nation who made the lives of the people miserable," she said and lamented "inhuman statement" of Sheikh Rashid regarding use of water cannon on protesting government employees.

Rashid had said that the government had tested water cannon on the employees. "Tomorrow, this government will say that it is using the atomic bomb on the masses to test it," Maryam said.

Will live in Pakistan, won't go abroad, says Maryam Nawaz

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) vice president Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Friday slammed Prime Minister Imran Khan for not visiting the Shia Hazaras protesting against the killing of coal miners in Balochistan and for suggesting that the demonstrators were "blackmailing" the premier.

Speaking at a press conference in Karachi, Maryam said Khan had admitted today that he was not going to Quetta because of his ego and stubbornness, reported Dawn.

"The nation wants to know what was the problem which prevented you from going and putting your hand on their heads. If this was due to obedience (tabedari), then the nation wants to know is obedience more important than the people's lives?" she said.

"If this is insensitivity and ruthlessness then tell the nation so we know not to look towards you in crisis and [know that] you won't come and call innocents blackmailers," added the PML-N leader.Maryam terming Khan's remarks 'devoid of humanity', adding that it was a `great failure` on the part of the government that the Hazaras, who were a vulnerable population and had been repeatedly targeted in the past again, became victim to a terrorism incident.

"When I asked them what are your demands, they said we have no demands, we only want the [prime minister] to come here and cover our wounds and reassure us that such events won`t happen again," she mentioned.

She further alleged that the Prime Minister had "time to watch dramas and play with dogs and soak the sun in huge lawns but did not have the time to partake in the pain and grief of the Hazara community". She also appealed to the Hazaras to bury their loved ones, telling them "the person you have kept hopes from has no heart in his chest".

Earlier today, the prime minister was widely criticised on social media when, amidst countrywide protests and rising political pressure, he suggested that the protesters were "blackmailing" him by refusing to bury their loved ones until he visits them, Dawn reported.

"We have accepted all of their demands. [But] one of their demands is that the dead will be buried when the premier visits. I have sent them a message that when all of your demands have been accepted [...] you don`t blackmail the prime minister of any country like this," Khan said on Friday while speaking at an event here.

On Sunday, unidentified gunmen stormed a coal mine in Machh town near Quetta, pulling out ethnic Hazaras, members of Pakistan`s Shia minority community, from their homes and opening fire on them.

The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack. Following the deadly attack, protests erupted in the region with the kin of the victims refusing to bury the dead until the government meets their demands.

The protestors have held several rounds of negotiations with members of Khan`s cabinet, including Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed, but to no avail.

The National Commission on Human Rights has estimated that more than 2,000 Hazaras - adherents of the minority Shia Muslim sect, and easily targeted due to their distinctive facial features - have been killed in targeted attacks since 2004, Al Jazeera reported.

They have been subject to targeted shootings and mass bomb and suicide attacks, particularly in Quetta, where the majority of the country`s estimated half a million Hazaras reside.

We saw this in 2006 when Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif — two former Prime Ministers of Pakistan came together to overthrow General Parvez Musharraf. Now, years later, we are seeing it again as Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Maryam Nawaz Sharif — the heirs of Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif — have come together to overthrow the government of Imran Khan Niazi.

Their coming together has infused new energy in their cadre. Their anti-govt rallies are being attended by thousands of Pakistan locals and their bonhomie is making headlines.

The political pundits of Pakistan are seeing this growing camaraderie as a new chapter in their country's politics. However, the real question is if this assumption is correct.

In 2006, Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto came together in London to sign a charter of democracy. They promised to struggle against what they called a dictatorship and they too promised to do away with the politics of hatred and polarisation.

Pakistan's anti-government coalition holds rally in Mardan

From 'go Nawaz' to 'go Niazi', Pakistan has come a long way. For months the country has been rocked by anti-government protests. On Sunday, December 13, these protests came to a temporary halt.

The Pakistan Democratic Movement held its final rally for this year in the city of Lahore. This does not mean the anti-government movement has subsided. The opposition is planning to organise what it calls another 'tsunami of protests' in Islamabad by February 2021 — bigger than the power-show they put up in Lahore yesterday.

Thousands of Pakistani citizens converged at Minar-e-Pakistan and chanted slogans against Imran Khan Niazi and demanded his resignation. There were fiery speeches by opposition leaders such as Bilawal Bhutto, the Chairman of Pakistan People's Party (PPP), Maulana Fazlur Rahman, the President Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam and Maryam Nawaz, the Vice-President of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.

Their grudges against the Pakistani government varied but their message was the same: 'Imran Khan will have to go.

"Imran khan, you will have to leave the government because you destroyed industry, you destroyed the business of the people, you destroyed the institutions, you raised the price for your class. You have to go now because you destroyed the national economy," said Nawaz.

Voicing the same opinion, Maulana Fazlur Rahman said, "We will eliminate the role of the establishment and the intelligence agency from politics and introduce the concept of independent accountability."

Nawaz Sharif, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, was also present virtually in the rally. Streaming in from London, he lashed out at the Pak army for its increasing involvement in the country's political matters and accused them of installing a puppet in the highest office of the country.

Imran Khan also talks about blackmail when just four weeks back his government bowed down to fundamentalists and extremists and allowed them to camp right outside Pakistan's capital. "Imran khan, you will have to leave the government because you destroyed industry, you destroyed the business of the people, you destroyed the institutions, you raised the price for your class. You have to go now because you destroyed the national economy," said Nawaz. Voicing the same opinion, Maulana Fazlur Rahman said, "We will eliminate the role of the establishment and the intelligence agency from politics and introduce the concept of independent accountability." Nawaz Sharif, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, was also present virtually in the rally. Streaming in from London, he lashed out at the Pak army for its increasing involvement in the country's political matters and accused them of installing a puppet in the highest office of the country. Pakistan opposition's rise in protests signifies fall of Imran Khan

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) vice president Maryam Nawaz on Thursday approached an Islamabad accountability court against the seizure of her father Nawaz Sharif's property in the Toshakhana reference.

Maryam filed an application in the court on behalf of her father, and after an initial hearing, Judge Syed Asghar Ali issued notices to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and others to submit their response to the application by December 16, reported ARY News.

Sharif's seized house in Murree is registered in the name of his late wife Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, the application stated, adding it was purchased before the date mentioned in the reference.

According to ARY News, the house was divided among the family members after her death and a court had already given a verdict regarding the division, the application said.

Maryam pleaded with the court to set aside the order regarding the seizure of the house.

On June 11, a non-bailable arrest warrant for Nawaz was issued by an accountability court in the Toshakhana reference.

According to the accountability bureau, Zardari and Sharif obtained cars from the Toshakana by paying 15 per cent of the cars' price.

The bureau further alleged that former Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani facilitated former President Asif Ali Zardari and Nawaz in this regard.

Zardari had paid only 15 per cent of the total cost of the cars through fake accounts, according to NAB. He also received the cars as a gift from Libya and the UAE when he was president and used them for his personal use instead of depositing them in the treasury, the anti-graft body had alleged.

The Toshakhana (gift depository) gift from any country to the head of the state remains the property of the government unless sold at an open auction. Rules allow officials to retain gifts with a market value of less than Rs 10,000 without paying anything.

Imran Khan's minister faces flak over sexist remarks against Maryam Nawaz

Pakistan federal minister Ali Amin Gandapur has been facing flak for his derogatory remarks about Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice-President Maryam Nawaz. He apparently said that her "beauty" was due to several "surgeries she got using taxpayers' money".

"She is beautiful, I will speak the truth. But listen to this as well -- she spent tens of millions on surgeries during Nawaz Sharif's two governments, using your tax money to fix herself," Gandapur said while addressing a rally in Gilgit-Baltistan's Shigar, as quoted by Geo News.

Social media in Pakistan, to this end, did not spare the federal minister, terming him a "disgrace".

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Senator Sherry Rehman said, "Gandapur’s remarks are insulting. His presence in GB during the polls is a violation of the election’s code of conduct."

But Imran Khan's minister did not stop here.

His special advisor made another derogatory remark -- this time against a renowned political commentator in the country by terming her a "filthy thing" and further disparaged people with liberal ideology as 'libtards'.

"Poor filthy thing .. Asking for an Ali Amin Gandapur kinda response so she can go whine to fellow libtards? How are you such a comprehensive package of all different kinds of filth combined #MadamCessPool," tweeted the Special Assistant to Khan, Sayed Bukhari.

Bukhari's tweet was in response to a political commentator Marvi Sirmed's tweet that read, "One of those moments when PM wasn't at the top, and First Lady wasn't in the room."

Pakistan's anti-corruption body has slapped a fresh corruption case on deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif, compounding the legal woes of the embattled Opposition leader who has frequently attacked the powerful military as well as the government.

Sharif, the 70-year-old supremo of the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) who was ousted from power in 2017 by the Supreme Court on corruption charges, is currently in London for medical treatment.

The National Accountability Bureau also approved cases against Sharif's ex-personal secretary Fawad Hasan Fawad, former federal minister Ahsan Iqbal, former foreign secretary Aizaz Chaudhry and former Intelligence Bureau (IB) chief Aftab Sultan, Dawn newspaper reported.

On Thursday, a total of 11 cases were approved at NAB's Executive Board Meeting (EBM) presided over by its chairman, retired Justice Javed Iqbal.

According to the National Accountability Bureau, a fresh case was approved against Sharif along with Chaudhry, Sultan, and Fawad for ''illegally purchasing 73 high-security vehicles for the security of foreign dignitaries.''

They are accused of favouritism and illegal use of vehicles, causing a loss of over Rs 1,952 million to the national exchequer.

The EBM also approved a case against Ahsan Iqbal and Mohammad Ahmed, contractor/owner of private firm Ahmed and Sons, for increasing the scope of the Sports City project in Narowal from Rs 30 million to Rs 3 billion by ''abusing the authority.''

They are accused of illegally providing the funds of the federal government to provincial government projects after the 18th Amendment by using personal influence, which inflicted huge losses on the national exchequer.

The case against Iqbal was approved two days after he had said in a private TV talk show that the NAB had been investigating the Narowal Sports City case against him for the last two-and-a-half years but did not file a reference.

Sharif is already facing several cases of corruption and misuse of authority which he has declared as a result of political vendetta by the current government led by Prime Minister Khan.

The approval of fresh cases followed a recent speech by Prime Minister Khan that the Opposition would see a ''different Imran Khan'', which was interpreted as a threat to arrest more opposition leaders and court cases.

Apart from Sharif and his close aides, the NAB approved cases worth billions of rupees of alleged corruption against several officials and businessmen for causing losses to the country in different projects.

Sharif criticised the military establishment in recent speeches at gatherings of the opposition Pakistan Democratic Movement.

Days before the July 2018 general elections, Sharif was convicted in the Avenfield properties case and sentenced to 10 years in prison. His daughter Maryam was sentenced to seven years in prison for abetment and his son-in-law Captain (retd) Mohammad Safdar to one year.

In December 2018, anti-corruption court judge Arshad Malik convicted Sharif in Al-Azizia Steel Mills case and sentenced him to seven years in prison. Judge Malik was later dismissed from service over misconduct.
