The Libyan Foreign Ministry on Monday emphasised that it had rejected an invitation from Israel for a meeting and that the interaction between the two sides was both "unplanned and incidental."&nbsp;

However, talking to Reuters, an Israeli official denied Libya's "short and unplanned" statement and said that the meeting was in fact prearranged "at the highest levels" within Libya. The official also said that the meeting lasted for over one hour.&nbsp;

Speaking to The Associated Press, a Libyan official, revealed that the meeting lasted for approximately two hours and that Mangoush later briefed the Libyan prime minister upon her return to Tripoli.&nbsp;

The official also said that this meeting was the culmination of US-brokered efforts aimed at having Libya join a group of Arab nations, and establishing diplomatic relations with Israel.

The official further revealed that the subject of normalising relations between Libya and Israel had initially been broached in a meeting involving Dbeibah and CIA Director William Burns, which took place when the latter visited the Libyan capital in January.

As per Haaretz, diplomats from Arab nations and the US believe that in the foreseeable future, the recent turmoil may have implications for efforts to foster normalisation between Israel and other Arab and Muslim countries.

The report goes on to say that a senior diplomat from an Arab nation maintaining ties with Israel said that this incident would erode other countries' confidence in Israeli officials.

As per a US Department of Commerce statement, "Secretary Raimondo looks forward to constructive discussions on issues relating to the US-China commercial relationship, challenges faced by US businesses, and areas for potential cooperation."

Confirming the visit, China said that the US Commerce Secretary has been invited by her Chinese counterpart, Wang Wentao.

During her August 27-30 trip, Raimondo will travel to both Beijing and Shanghai, said Washington. Her visit will reportedly build on an agreement between US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping.&nbsp;

Last year, the two leaders had agreed "to deepen communication between the US and the PRC on a range of issues."

<h2>Trip agenda</h2>

Speaking to reporters during a press briefing on Tuesday, White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said that Raimondo will carry the message that the US is not seeking to decouple from China but rather to "de-risk", which means that Washington only seeks to protect its national security.

"Contrary to claims by some voices in China that we are seeking to slow down China's economy or weaken China's economic growth, that's just not the case," he said.

US secretary of commerce to travel to China next week, to focus on US-China commercial relationship

Donald Trump has declared that, on Thursday, he will turn himself in&nbsp;to face racketeering and other charges stemming from his bid to overturn the 2020 election.&nbsp;

Writing on his platform Truth Social on Monday, Trump labelled the trial a 'Witch Hunt' and said&nbsp;that he would be "ARRESTED by a Radical Left District Attorney, Fani Willis," the Georgia official behind the fourth indictment against the former president.

The bond, as per CNN citing court documents reviewed by it, was agreed upon after the former US president's lawyers met with the Fulton County district attorney’s office on Monday.

<h2>Extensive release conditions</h2>

Reportedly, Trump's bond order is more extensive than those granted to other co-defendants.

The businessman has been explicitly barred from using social media "to target his 18 co-defendants in the case, as well as any witnesses and the 30 un-indicted co-conspirators," reports CNN.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee's order states that "The Defendant (Donald Trump) shall perform no act to intimidate any person known to him or her to be a codefendant or witness in this case or to otherwise obstruct the administration of justice."

"The above shall include, but are not limited to, posts on social media or reposts of posts made by another individual on social media," it specifies.

While Trump's bond has been set at $200,000, for several other defendants who also had their bond orders approved on Monday, the amount is significantly lower.

John Eastman, a conservative attorney, reached a bond agreement of $100,000 with Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.&nbsp;

Kenneth Chesebro's bond was set at $100,000, while Ray Smith's bond was set at $50,000.

The bond orders forbid them from communicating with the other 18 co-defendants or any potential witnesses regarding the case. They also include similar terms for release — defendants have been ordered to regularly report to pre-trial supervision every 30 days, this can also be done over the phone.&nbsp;

As per&nbsp;an AFP report, late on Tuesday, the two strikes&nbsp;hit at the facility near Ain Shib, west of the city of Idlib, where displaced Syrians had been living. This comes&nbsp;amid a recent increase in attacks by the Syrian government's ally, Moscow.

Other late-night air strikes reportedly targeted the town of Ariha, located south of Idlib city in Syria.&nbsp;

Quoting first responders, AFP reports that at least&nbsp;two civilians had been killed. Several inhabitants&nbsp;of the building remain unaccounted for.

The CDC's Vital Signs report mentions the various forms of mistreatment. These include instances of women being scolded or shouted at, them not receiving a response to requests for help, and not having their physical privacy protected.&nbsp;

Additionally, many reported that they were on the receiving end of threats to withhold treatments or were pressured into accepting unwanted treatment.

Survey data shows that around 30 per cent of Black women, 29 per cent of Hispanic women, and 27 per cent of multiracial women reported mistreatment during their maternity care experiences.&nbsp;

<h2>What would improving pregnancy care do?</h2>

As per the survey that was conducted in April, enhancing the quality of maternity care could play a crucial role in preventing pregnancy-related deaths.

Furthermore, it highlighted how prevalent discrimination was among pregnant women.&nbsp;It noted that "the most common reasons for reported discrimination were age, weight, and income and varied by race/ethnicity."

The survey also found&nbsp;that in general, women tend to hold back from asking questions or concerns to healthcare providers during their maternity care. This hesitation was often due to&nbsp;embarrassment about discussing certain topics, fears that they would be perceived as difficult, or because the providers were rushed.

Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra stressed that "every mother deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. Maternal care is a core component of this nation's health care." He also said, "Bias, stigma, and mistreatment have no place in our healthcare system."

He was referring to an incident from 2004. Back then he was a senator for Delaware and was in Washington for a 'meet the press' session when lightning struck a pond by his home. The bolt&nbsp;hit a wire, only to travel into his Delaware home and into the heating and air conditioning ducts.

As per an AP report from August 2004, this led to a "small fire that was contained to the kitchen."

The then Cranston Heights Fire Company Chief George Lamborn in a statement had said that "the fire was under control in 20 minutes."

"To make a long story short, I almost lost my wife, my '67 Corvette, and my cat," said Biden, adding, "But all kidding aside, I watched the firefighters, the way they responded."

Mali, which has witnessed three coups in the past decade, is currently under the rule of a military junta that has been pressing for the departure of the MINUSMA UN mission which commenced in 2013 following the 2012 separatist and jihadist rebellions in the northern part of the nation.&nbsp;

MINUSMA has already handed over control of two bases near Timbuktu to Malian authorities. In spite of the UN&nbsp;compliance&nbsp;with the Junta's demand, the region remains plagued by unrest, reports AFP.

Somalia has banned a number of social media applications in light of rapidly spreading indecent content and propaganda, said the nation's communication minister in a statement released late on Sunday.

While ByteDance's TikTok and betting website 1XBet are yet to issue a comment over the ban, Telegram in its statement said: "Telegram consistently removes terrorist propaganda in Somalia and worldwide."

It also said that it "actively moderated" harmful content on its platform.

<h2>App users criticise the ban</h2>

In Somalia and elsewhere, millions of users use TikTok to make money by posting videos, entertaining content or promoting their products. Talking to Reuters, some Somalian TikTok influencers&nbsp;and content creators said they were against the ban.

"Where will we get our daily bread?" he asked.

Another user, Halimo Hassan, who sells precious metal gold on TikTok, expressed worry over losing her customers and said: "I urge the government to allow TikTok for the public, but control how it is used in the cultural context of Somalia."

He also denied Trump's attempt to delay Carroll's case while he pursued an appeal against the June 29 decision — which had concluded that the former president was not entitled to absolute presidential immunity for calling Carroll a liar.

<h2>‘Frivolous’</h2>

Judge Kaplan as per Reuters, remarked, "Mr. Trump has not provided a single reason for the court to find that there is any likelihood that he will succeed on appeal."

Reportedly, in his attempt to secure a stay, the former president had argued that he had a substantial likelihood of proving that Judge Kaplan's June 29 ruling was incorrect. He also claimed that there was "immense public interest" in allowing the appeals court to take a decision.&nbsp;

Furthermore, Trump contended that he would suffer irreparable harm if a trial which is scheduled for January 15, 2024 took place before the appeals court's decision.

However, Judge Kaplan rejected Trump's assertions, and said that Carroll deserved her day in court without undue delay due to the businessman's other trials or his upcoming presidential campaign activities.&nbsp;

Morocco has denied reports that claimed it will join the BRICS grouping ahead of the upcoming summit of the emerging economies led by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa at the summit in Johannesburg next week.

Talking to Bloomberg, South Africa’s BRICS Ambassador, Anil Sooklal clarified that the upcoming summit's focus will be on promoting local currencies within the bloc.

"Trading in local currencies is clearly on the agenda, he said, adding, "There is no de-dollarisation item on the BRICS agenda."&nbsp;

"The dollar will remain a prominent global currency,&nbsp;that is a given," said Sooklal.

He said that contrary to some narratives making the rounds,&nbsp;the bloc is not a counter to the West or the G7. Instead, he said the alliance aims to "advance the agenda of the Global South and build a more inclusive, representative, just, and fair global architecture."

<h2>Other applicants</h2>

According to&nbsp;South Africa's top diplomat in charge of relations with the bloc, more than 40 countries have expressed interest in joining the&nbsp;BRICS&nbsp;group of nations. Nations&nbsp;that expressed interest include Algeria, Argentina, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Cuba, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Comoros, Gabon, and Kazakhstan.

This revelation comes in the wake of an electoral court decision that has rendered Bolsonaro ineligible for public office until 2030. This decision, as per Reuters, was taken due to his abusing his presidential powers to undermine trust in Brazil's electoral system.&nbsp;

Speaking to Reuters, a person close to the Bolsonaro family described Delgatti's allegations as "devastating."&nbsp;

Acknowledging growing concerns over the exploitation of young 'influencers' on social media platforms, Illinois has enacted the United States's first law to safeguard minors featured in online videos. The law will also ensure that these young influencers are properly compensated.&nbsp;

The legislation, as per a CNN report, was inspired by the advocacy of 16-year-old Shreya Nallamothu from Normal, Illinois.

<h2>How it all started</h2>

The teenager's concern reportedly began when scrolling through social media during the pandemic. She noticed an increasing number of children featured in family vlogs. These videos made her "realise family vlogging is putting very private and intimate moments on&nbsp;the internet."

This prompted her to write a letter to Democrat Dave Koehler, her state senator, urging him to consider protective legislation for these children.&nbsp;

"The fact that these kids are either too young to grasp that or weren’t given the chance to grasp that is really sad," says Nallamothu.&nbsp;

<h2>The law</h2>

Influenced by her letter, last week, Illinois Governor J. B. Pritzker signed into law an amendment to the state's Child Labor Law.&nbsp;

Among other things, the new law allows teenagers over the age of 18 to sue their parents if they were featured in monetised social media videos and not adequately compensated. These rights mirror the rights held by child actors.

The new law draws inspiration from the 1936 "Jackie Coogan's Law," which was designed to prevent parents from exploiting child actors' earnings.

Starting July 1, 2024, parents in Illinois will be obligated to allocate 50 per cent of earnings from a video's content into a blocked trust fund for the child 'influencer'.&nbsp;

The exact amount, however, will depend on the duration for which the child is featured in the video. For instance, if a child appears in 50 per cent of a video, they'll be liable to receive 25 per cent of the earnings. Similarly, for a video they're in 100 per cent, they will get 50 per cent of the earnings.

However, this rule applies only when a child appears on screen for more than 30 per cent of the vlogs shared in a one-year period.

Talking to CNN, Senator Koehler said that they "understand that parents should receive compensation too because they have equity in this, but we don't want to forget about the child."

<h2>Why is such a law necessary?</h2>

Recently, there has been a rising trend of YouTube parent vloggers and social media influencers posting frequent videos sharing personal details about their lives.&nbsp;

Children often play a significant role in these monetised videos, yet there is no legal requirement for parents to share the video earnings with the children.

Similarly, kid influencer&nbsp;accounts that often earn as much as $20,000 for sponsored posts rarely benefit the children. These accounts are managed by parents due to age restrictions on social media platforms.
