Post the IPL 2022 edition, which is set to end on Sunday (May 29), the cricketing action will continue for the Indian players as a second-stringed Indian team will shift their focus to hosting South Africa in a five-match T20I series at home, starting on June 09.

Ahead of the series, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has confirmed that there will be no bio-bubble for the forthcoming T20Is. However, the players will continue to undergo Covid tests. “If I’m not wrong, the bio-bubble for IPL-2022 was the last. For the India-SA series onwards, players will be tested (for covid), but will not be any bio-bubble,” Shah told Times of India in an interaction.

Shah further pointed out that BCCI created bio-bubbles for the 15th season of the IPL which allowed family members to be with players and helped in creating an environment that players enjoyed. “Yes, it’s tough for the players. However, they got a family-like atmosphere inside the hotel bio-bubble. In the case of the IPL, we had hotels dedicated to each team. The whole tournament was held at one place."

“All the teams had their lounges, and recreational centres (to relax and unwind). So, they also enjoyed it,” added the senior BCCI official.

For the unversed, the regular captain Rohit Sharma, former skipper Virat Kohli and pacer Jasprit Bumrah will miss the SA series as the trio have been rested. Match 64 of the IPL 2022 edition will be held between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai on Monday evening (May 16). The clash holds utmost significance in the league stage with regard to the remaining three playoffs spot.

Both Delhi and Punjab are tied at 12 points. With Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) very much certain to take the second or third spot and join Gujarat Titans (GT) in the playoffs, the fourth spot remains wide open. While Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have 14 points and are also close to confirming a berth, DC and PBKS are far from being out of the race. If the winner of Delhi-Punjab goes on to win their remaining game as well, they can move past RCB to take the fourth spot.

Talking about the last face-off between both teams, it saw a spirited show from Rishabh Pant & Co. They faced each other in match 32 whereas Kuldeep Yadav-Axar Patel's two scalps each rocked Punjab as they were bundled out for a paltry 115 after being asked to bat first. In reply, Prithvi Shaw and David Warmer (60 not out) propelled Delhi to a massive nine-wicket win.

Match prediction for Punjab vs Delhi encounter: 10 out of the 18 games have been won at this venue by batting second. Hence, chasing remains to be the top priority and in a must-win game for both sides, Mayank and Pant will fancy their team's chances of knowing the total and planning a chase accordingly (so far, DC have won 4 out of 6 while chasing, PBKS have won 4 while defending). Expect a run-scoring game with it to go down to the wire.

PBKS vs DC, IPL 2022 today match prediction: Who will win Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals clash?

Match 60 of the IPL 2022 edition saw the three-time runners-up Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) face the Mayank Agarwal-led Punjab Kings (PBKS). While a win would've taken RCB closer to the playoffs, they lost by a whopping 54-run margin in pursuit of a mammoth 210 as Punjab remain alive in the playoffs race.

Winning the toss, Fafd & Co. invited the Punjab XI to bat first at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai. The Punjab outfit were off to an electrifying start as Englishman Jonny Bairstow went bonkers from the word go. Shikhar Dhawan also contributed as the duo's 50-run stand came in no time. Josh Hazlewood, RCB's premier pacer this season, was hammered left, right and center as Punjab made full use of the powerplay overs. While Bhanuka Rajapaksha fell early, Bairstow was joined by Liam Livingstone, who anchored the innings after the former's dismissal for an impressive 29-ball 66. The middle overs have been the Achilles heel for Punjab as their batters tend to slow down and the same was witnessed Friday evening (May 13) but Livingstone's well-crafted 42-ball 70 propelled the one-time runners-up to 209/9 despite Wanindu Hasaranga's 2 for 15 and Harshal Patel's 4 for 34.

In reply, RCB were never in the run-chase. Virat Kohli came out to bat with a positive intent in a bid to move past his sluggish form. While he got a start, he soon perished off Kagiso Rabada's well-executed short-pitched delivery. Faf couldn't trouble the scorers whereas none apart from Rajat Patidar and Glenn Maxwell took Punjab bowlers to the cleaners. The duo's departure sealed the contest in favour of an inconsistent Punjab as Rabada's 3 for 21 and two scalps each from Rishi Dhawan-Rahul Chahar took Mayank & Co. to an easy win to stay alive in the playoffs race. They now have 12 points from an equal number of encounters with a healthy NRR (+0.023) as they move up to the sixth position.

IPL 2022: Liam Livingstone, Jonny Bairstow & bowlers shine as PBKS beat RCB to remain alive in playoffs race

Shikhar Dhawan struck a fine half-century as error-prone Punjab Kings finally produced a clinical performance to beat Gujarat Titans by eight wickets and end the IPL table leaders' five-match winning streak here on Tuesday.

Pacer Kagiso Rabada snared four wickets as Punjab Kings restricted formidable Gujarat Titans to a below-par 143 for eight after Hardik Pandya opted to bat first.Punjab, who made a mess of what should have been a straightforward chase in their last game, learned from their mistakes to pace the innings much better and overcome the target in 16 overs.

Dhawan (62 not out off 53 balls) scored his third half-century of the season and got good support from Sri Lankan Bhanuka Rajapaksa (40 off 28), who entertained with five fours and a six. As one of the senior batters in the team, Dhawan took the responsibility of finishing the game for his team and he did that with elan.

Skipper Mayank Agarwal dropped himself down the order to accommodate Jonny Bairstow (1) at the top of the order but the move did not work. However, the 87-run stand between the left-handers, Dhawan and Rajapaksa, ensured Punjab got home comfortably.

Liam Livingstone (30 not out off 10) displayed some brutal hitting towards the end of the chase and smashed premier India pacer Mohammad Shami for four sixes including a monstrous 117m hit over deep square leg. The 16th over going for 30 runs also gave a big boost to PBKS' net run rate.

It was a much-needed win for Punjab, who have struggled for consistency this season with five wins and as many losses. For Gujarat, who are set to make the play-offs, it was a timely wake-up call to fix their batting issues, especially at the top of the order. They have had somebody or the other to bail them out of tough situations but it was not the case on Tuesday.

Earlier, Sai Sudharsan's unbeaten 65 off 50 balls was the saving grace in Gujarat's innings as Punjab bowlers conceded only 11 fours and two sixes. Sudarsan managed to hit five boundaries and a six but ran out of partners as Gujarat skipper Hardik Pandya's decision to elect to bat backfired.

They lost openers Shubman Gill (9) and Wriddhiman Saha (21) cheaply. Gill, who had struck two boundaries, was dismissed courtesy a direct hit from Rishi Dhawan from cover, in the third over.

In the next over Saha, who started aggressively, gave a sitter to rival captain Mayank Agarwal at mid-off, giving Rabada (4/33) his first wicket. Saha, who had hit three boundaries and a six, was undone by the extra bounce, as he tried to play a lofted shot, but mistimed it and paid the price.

Gujarat further slipped to 44/3 as pacer Rishi Dhawan (1/26) removed Hardik (1) early. Hardik tried to drive an outside the off length ball, but ended it nicking to wicket-keeper Jitesh Sharma leaving his team in all sorts of trouble.

Then Sudharsan and David Miller (11) tried to rally the innings but managed to add only 23 runs in 30 balls. It became 67/4 after Liam Livingstone (1/15) dismissed Miller, who miscued a lofted drive to be caught by Rabada at long-off.

Sudharshan tried to change gears from the 11th over, when he pulled Livingstone for his first boundary, but was unable to free his arms frequently.

Rabada further pegged back Gujarat by removing Rahul Tewatia (11) and Rashid Khan (0) in successive deliveries in the 17th over, with GT reeling at 112/6. Rabada capped off a memorable spell by dismissing Lockie Ferguson (5).
For Punjab, Sandeep Sharma (0/17), Arshdeep Singh (1/35), Rahul Chahar (0/11) and Livingstone also played their parts to perfection.

IPL 2022: Punjab Kings put together perfect game to end Gujarat Titans' winning run with 8-wicket victory

A superb, fighting half-century by seasoned Ambati Rayudu went in vain as a clinical bowling performance saw Punjab Kings beat Chennai Super Kings by 11 runs in Match 38 of IPL 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium here on Monday.

Chasing a target of 188 set by Punjab Kings largely boosted by a brilliant 88 not out by Shikhar Dhawan, Chennai were in trouble soon.

Rayudu came in to bat with Chennai struggling at 40/3 and took them to safety with a blazing 78 off 39 balls, hitting seven fours and 6 sixes to raise hopes for a CSK victory. He raised 64 runs off 32 deliveries for the fifth wicket partnership.

But in the end, Jadeja (21 off 16 balls) could not guide his team to victory as from needing 47 off 24 balls, they reached a stage where they needed 27 off the last six deliveries with Jadeja and M.S Dhoni at the crease.

Dhoni struck Rishi Dhawan for a six off the first ball but was out off the third legal delivery and Jadeja could manage only a six and a single off the final two deliveries as CSK slumped to their sixth defeat in eight matches -- ending with 176/6 in 20 overs.

Chennai got off to a poor start and lost opener Robin Uthappa with 10 runs on the board, top-edging a length ball by Sandeep Sharma to Shikhar Dhawan. It soon became 40/3 as Mitchell Santner (9) and Shivam Dube (8) got out cheaply.

But just when it looked like they will suffer a collapse, Rayudu got together with the other opener, Ruturaj Gaikwad to pull them out of the woods. Both Rayudu and Gaikwad started cautiously but struck some fine boundaries on the right occasions to keep Chennai`s hope alive.

They added 49 runs for the fourth wicket and just when it was looking like they will raise the tempo, Gaikwad, who despatched Rabada to the boundaries off successive deliveries in the first over, was out, caught by Mayank Agarwal while trying to hit Rabada for a second successive four in the 13th over.

Rayudu however, kept up the good work. He struck Sandeep Sharma for fours off successive deliveries as the bowler strayed on legs and blasted Rahul Charar for a four and a six in the 15th over before hammering Sandeep Sharma for 23 runs in the 16th over, blasting three sixes and a four.

He and skipper Ravindra Jadeja raised 64 runs for the fifth wicket in 32 balls, Rayudu doing the bulk of the scoring. He got out just when it looked he was good for a century, cleaned up by Rabada with a superb yorker backing away from the leg side but missing the ball completely to see his leg stump re-arranged. Rayudu`s brilliant 78 off 39 balls left CSK needing 47 off 24 balls.

With Arshdeep Singh and Rabada bowling two good overs, the equation came down to 27 off the last 6 deliveries and eventually to 19 off two balls and though Jadeja struck Rishi Dhawan for a six, CSK eventually fell short by 11 runs.

Shikhar Dhawan carried his bat through as he scored an unbeaten 88 off 59 deliveries, hitting 9 fours and 2 sixes as he helped Punjab Kings to 187/4 after they were asked to bat first by Chennai Super Kings skipper Ravindra Jadeja.

Brief scores: Punjab Kings 187/4 in 20 overs (Shikhar Dhawan 88 not out, Bhanuka Rajapaksa 42, Liam Livingstone 19; Dwayne Bravo 2/42) beat Chennai Super Kings 176/6 in 20 overs (Ruturaj Gaikwad 30, Ambati Rayudu 78, Ravindra Jadeja 21 not out; Kagiso Rabada 2/23, Rishi Dhawan 2/39) by 11 runs.

Match 38 of the IPL 2022 edition saw the second reverse fixture of the season as Punjab Kings (PBKS) faced Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Monday evening (April 25). Opting to bowl first, Ravindra Jadeja & Co. couldn't pick regular wickets and their fielding remained below-par as Shikhar Dhawan's 88 and vital knocks from Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Liam Livingstone propelled Punjab to 187-4.

In reply, CSK were tottering at 40-3 and were behind the required run-rate before Ambati Rayudu's scintillating 39-ball 78 kept the defending champions in the hunt. At one stage, Rayudu's blitz reduced the equation to a gettable 47 off 24 balls before Arshdeep Singh and Kagiso Rabada's brilliant death bowling led to Chennai needing 27 off 6 balls.

With MS Dhoni still in the middle, CSK fans hoped for a miracle. He started with a mammoth six, off Rishi Dhawan, before Punjab eventually beat the Yellow Army by 11 runs. Thus, Kagiso Rabada lauded Rishi for keeping his composure in a tough situation and getting the better of Dhoni (12 off 8 balls).

"Rishi, coming back and bowling that final over. He put his hand up. I don't know if I've left anyone out. It's still a bit nerve-wracking when you're bowling at MS Dhoni, and there's not one red shirt in the crowd, only yellow shirts chanting his name, but he held his nerve and came out on top. Huge credit to him," the South African pacer said at the post-match presentation.

"Arsh (Arshdeep) has been the best death bowler in this comp; that's what the stats say. He's a youngster coming in, has got a lot of drive, a lot of ambition as well. And he's just a good bloke, so, it's nice to have him around. I always bowl at the death as well, so I know that, but Arsh has been magnificent; he's been leading the way in that discipline," Rabada added.

With this win, Punjab have now moved to the sixth position in the points table, with four wins and equal number of losses. They remain in contention for the playoffs spot, however, still have lots to catch up in order to progress ahead. Jadeja-led CSK are also alive -- despite two wins from eight games -- but are now in a must-win situation.

Mumbai Indians (MI) will be looking to spark a turnaround and bag their first win of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season when they lock horns with Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday. Mumbai Indians are the only team who are winless in the season so far with four defeats in their first four matches.

While skipper Rohit Sharma is yet to his purple patch, the likes of Kieron Pollard, Tim David and Dewald Brevis have also failed to get going this season. However, the trio of Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma has displayed great form so far this season which is the only positive for the five-time champions.

Their bowling attack has also lacked sting as Jasprit Bumrah has not managed to find support from the other end. The lack of a wicket-taking spinner and an overseas pacer who can partner Bumrah with the new ball and in the death overs has hurt MI's chances this season.

Punjab Kings have had a contrasting start compared to MI as the Mayank Agarwal-led side has managed two wins and two losses in their first four games of the season. Punjab Kings have shown intent with the bat and have played an aggressive brand of cricket.

With the likes of Liam Livingstone, Jonny Bairstow and Shahrukh Khan in a rich vein of form, Punjab Kings will be licking their lips against MI's struggling bowling attack. However, their death bowling has been a huge concern as the pacers have struggled to control runs towards the end. The lack of wickets for the likes of Kagiso Rabada and Harpreet Brar is also a worrying sign for Punjab.

Mumbai Indians vs Punjab Kings, IPL 2022: Head-to-head record, trivia, stats and predicted playing XIs

Match 8 of the IPL 2022 edition will see the two-time winners Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) face the one-time runners-up Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Friday evening (April 01). While this will be only the second game for Punjab, Shreyas Iyer & Co. will play their third match as the first week of the 15th season comes to a close.

Talking about the PBKS outfit, they started their campaign with a spirited five-wicket win over the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) franchise. Bowling first, Punjab leaked runs as RCB posted 205-2 in 20 overs. However, their batters such as skipper Mayank Agarwal, Shikhar Dhawan, Bhanuka Rajapaksha, Liam Livingstone, Odean Smith and Shahrukh Khan combined with vital knocks to propel the side to a thrilling last-over win, at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai.

After a desirable start, Punjab will aim to move past their inconsistent tag and make it two wins in a row. It won't be easy facing the KKR outfit, who have won and lost a match each. Iyer-led KKR are a formidable unit with a good mix of batters and enough variety in their bowling department.

While Punjab have some big hitters, they will need their bowling to improve with each passing game. Kagiso Rabada looks all set to don the Punjab jersey for the first time in the KKR face-off. The South African seamer will look to add to the bowling unit and spearhead the attack versus Kolkata.

While Punjab need not make a lot of changes, they will have to fit in Rabada. In all likelihood, Raj Bawa is expected to warm the bench to make way for Rabada. The rest of the line-up should remain the same. As of now, there is no news on the availability of Jonny Bairstow, hence, Rajapaksha will retain his place.

IPL 2022: Kagiso Rabada to debut for PBKS? Predicting Mayank Agarwal & Co.’s likely XI vs KKR

The cricketing action will continue on IPL 2022's second day itself. On Sunday (March 27), the 15th season will see its first doubleheader as Mumbai Indians (MI) face Delhi Capitals in the afternoon game whereas two new-look teams in the form of Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Mayank Agarwal's Punjab Kings (PBKS) will lock horns with each other in the evening encounter.

Talking about the second game of the doubleheader, it will be an exciting contest between two teams who have changed a whole lot since the last season. For Punjab, they will have a new captain once again after KL Rahul left the franchise to join the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Mayank will step into his shoes and has a power-packed squad, comprising the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Kagiso Rabada, Liam Livingstone, Shahrukh Khan, Odean Smith, Rahul Chahar, etc. Jonny Bairstow is currently involved in England's third and final Test versus West Indies in the Caribbean island and, hence, his absence will be felt. Nonetheless, PBKS have most of their players which should keep them in good stead.

On the other hand, the perennial underachievers RCB will be led by Faf du Plessis. He steps into the big shoes of Virat Kohli, who resigned from the top post after IPL 2021. Faf will have Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik's experience along with him but the Aussie all-rounder will miss the opening few games due to his marriage. Bengaluru still have enough firepower to rely upon and will give a tough competition to the Punjab line-up.

It will be interesting to see how the bowlers from both sides utilise the DY Patil Stadium's surface, which has been used as a football ground of late. The captains will also be put to test to rotate their bowlers and set a template for their batters on a pitch which can have anything on offer.

Match prediction for RCB vs PBKS: The surface at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai continues to be the biggest talking point ahead of the season. Being in the early days of IPL 2022, not much can be predicted on how it will come into play. If one analyses the two teams on paper, Punjab pack a solid punch, however, it remains to be seen how well they gel and show up on the field versus the three-time runners-up.

RCB vs PBKS, IPL 2022 prediction today: Who will win Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Punjab Kings match?

Fast bowler Kagiso Rabada took 5-39 as South Africa cruised to a seven-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the second one-day International at The Wanderers on Sunday to square the three-match series.

Bangladesh chose to bat, but after a poor start could only manage 194 for nine in their 50 overs. The home side had no trouble chasing down the target, which they reached with 76 balls to spare.

They earned 10 points on the ICC’s World Cup Super League table, where South Africa are battling to break into the top eight to automatically qualify for the tournament in India next year.

Bangladesh collapsed to 34 for five as the home seamers got exaggerated bounce out of the surface and caught the edge with regularity.

Rabada was particularly destructive, but when South Africa lost their third seamer, Wayne Parnell, to a hamstring injury early in his spell, it opened an end for the visitors.

Afif Hossain (72 from 107 balls) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (38 from 49 balls) put on 86 for the seventh wicket to bring respectability to the score, but it was well below par at a venue famous for high-scoring games.

That was proven by opener Quinton de Kock as he smashed 62 from 41 balls in the home side’s reply and Kyle Verreynne (58 not out from 77 balls) led South Africa to an easy win.

Bangladesh were victorious in the first game by 38 runs on Friday. The series decider will be played at Centurion Park in Pretoria on Wednesday.

Kagiso Rabada's five-for helps South Africa clinch 2nd ODI against Bangladesh by 7 wickets

From Jasprit Bumrah to Kagiso Rabada: A look at five players who might win Purple Cap in IPL 2022

Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has reacted to the decision of a number of prominent South African cricketers to prioritise Indian Premier League (IPL) over playing for their nationl team by skipping the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh at home for IPL 2022. South African players with an IPL contract have not been named in their country's Test squad for the two-match series against Bangladesh.

South African skipper Dean Elgar, who had earlier requested his players to not skip the Test series against Bangladesh, has now been left with a number of first-choice players and an almost second-fiddle squad for the two Tests against the visitors. South Africa are scheduled to play three ODIs followed by two Tests against Bangladesh.

While the IPL-bound players will be part of the ODI series, they will travel to India following the conclusion of the three limited-overs games and skip the two Tests against Bangladesh. The Proteas players' decision to head to the IPL and not turn up for their national team has once again raised the club vs country debate with regards to the Indian Premier League.

Reacting to the move by the South African stars, former India cricketer Chopra asked if IPL has started bullying cricket boards across the globe? However, the popular commentator defended IPL by stating that CSA itself issues no-objection certificates to the players and also earns a part of the players' salary from IPL.

"The question that stems from this is - Is club bigger than the country? The club versus country debate has caught a little fire again. Dean Elgar had said this will be a loyalty test. The question is - Is IPL bullying the other boards?" said Chopra in a video on his YouTube channel.

"IPL has not said anything, IPL in fact says that when Cricket South Africa gives the NOC (No Objection Certificate), they get 10% from the players' salary. This is how the market of international cricket works," he added.

Chopra also insisted that players should not be made scapegoats for choosing to play IPL or other franchise cricket over the country and that the decision should be of the country's cricket board.

"Do not make players make this difficult choice. The club versus country conflict will keep continuing, there will be different opinions on it but the fact is the players will choose IPL ahead of bilateral commitments and the boards will not be able to stop it," said Chopra.

"Let's be honest, there are a lot of players - Lungi Ngidi, Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen, Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram. There is nothing known about Anrich Nortje at the moment, neither is he playing for his country nor does it seem that he will play the IPL," he added.

Also Read: 'CSA not at liberty to refuse': IPL bound-players not named in South Africa's squad for Bangladesh Tests Chopra also insisted that players should not be made scapegoats for choosing to play IPL or other franchise cricket over the country and that the decision should be of the country's cricket board.

'Is IPL bullying other boards?': Aakash Chopra reacts as SA players skip Bangladesh Tests for T20 league

Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Thursday announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh. The two-match Test series which will be hosted by South Africa will get underway from March 31 in Durban. None of the Indian Premier League (IPL)-bound players have been named in the Test squad.

South Africa's Test skipper Dean Elgar had recently appealed to all his players to remain available for the Bangladesh Tests as he wanted to head into the series with his best squad. Elgar had requested the IPL-bound South African players to prioritise their country over the T20 league.

However, despite the South African skipper's request, none of the IPL-bound players have been included in the squad. "I can't take the field without my best side in order to give ourselves the best chance. I need my best players. You don't want players to miss out on a big occasion like the IPL, by no means. But I'd still like to think playing for your country is bigger than that," Elgar had said in a press conference earlier this month.

There are a host of South African players who are part of different franchises for the upcoming IPL 2022. The likes of Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Marco Jansen and Aiden Markram among others are integral members of the South African Test team but will be playing in IPL 2022 while skipping the Test series against Bangladesh.

Reacting to the development, Cricket South Africa (CSA) in a statement clarified that the board is currently not at liberty to refuse players the opportunity to not take part in the IPL. CSA said the Test team against Bangladesh will be without the IPL-bound players.

"The team will be without its IPL players. CSA's current MOU with @SACAplayers states that CSA is not at liberty to refuse players the opportunity to take part in the IPL, as CSA and SACA look to balance the livelihoods and opportunities of players and their national duties," said CSA in a statement.

Warner, Iyer, Rabada and 7 others part of marquee set at IPL 2022 mega auction, see full list

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 edition is still over two months away. However, all eyes are on the mega auction, which is set to be held in mid-February in Bengaluru. The 15th edition is eagerly awaited as it will see two new teams joining the eight franchises, which also makes the forthcoming mega auction all the more important.

While the eight existing teams will face the challenge to revamp once again, the two new teams -- i.e. Lucknow and Ahmedabad -- will aim to create start from scratch and make the most of the auction proceedings. Ahead of the auction on February 12 and 13, Lucknow Super Giants' captain KL Rahul has lavished praise on Kagiso Rabada, who was not retained by the Delhi Capitals (DC), and hinted that the team management might aim to buy him.

"We have seen Rabada being a key bowler for the Delhi Capitals and played a huge part in their success. Every team would want a player like Kagiso Rabada. Come on, he bowls over 145kph and is a very smart cricketer. Everyone would want someone like that," said Rahul about the South African pace spearhead on India Today.

Rahul also heaped praise on Marco Jansen and Rassie van der Dussen, who made heads turn with their performances in the India-SA series, in the rainbow nation. "Marco Jansen played a few games for Mumbai Indians but he has come of his own now. He had a really good series with the red ball (during the India Test series in the African nation) and that makes a little bit of a difference with how people see him. He is someone who will do really well in international cricket with the red ball. We all spoke about it after the series as well that he is going to be the next big thing in international cricket," opined Rahul.

"Van der Dussen has been performing phenomenally and is someone who plays spin really well. That is key and a very important thing that a franchise looks at when you are picking a foreign batter. We play the IPL in India and teams tend to use a lot of spinners in the middle overs so you need to be a good player of spin to get into an IPL team," added Rahul.

For now, Lucknow have acquired the services of Rahul, Ravi Bishnoi and Marcus Stoinis. On the other hand, Ahmedabad franchise have named Hardik Pandya as the captain, along with claiming the services of Rashid Khan and Shubman Gill.

After the riveting three Tests, India and South Africa will square off with each other in the three-match ODI series opener at Boland Park, Paarl on Wednesday (January 19). Team India will play their first-ever series in the 50-over format since July 2021 and following Rahul Dravid's appointment as the head coach.

In 2021, India played two bilateral ODI series, versus England and Sri Lanka respectively. India ended the year winning four games and losing two. Since then, a lot has changed in Indian cricket. Virat Kohli was sacked as the ODI captain, having resigned on his own as T20I and Test captain (recently on January 15). Rohit Sharma was named the limited-overs captain in early December 2021, before being ruled out of the upcoming ODIs due to hamstring injury.

Thus, the 29-year-old KL Rahul will take the charge of the side in the SA ODIs in Rohit's absence. Rahul has already led India in the ongoing tour, during the second and penultimate Test at The Wanderers, Johannesburg. It will be interesting to see how he guides the side with veterans such as Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, R Ashwin, etc.

Since July 2021, Dravid has already worked with several captains -- in the form of Dhawan, Rohit, Ajinkya Rahane, Kohli and Rahul. Thus, the national side will be eager to gel well and start the series with a bang after losing the Tests 2-1. The young guns such as Venkatesh Iyer, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan, Md Siraj, Rishabh Pant, etc. will be desperate to make the most of their chances.

On the other hand, Bavuma-led SA aren't pushovers by any means. The likes of Bavuma, Quinton de Kock, Lungi Ngidi, etc. will be bolstered by the presence of white-ball specialists David Miller, Andile Pheklukwayo, Tabraiz Shamsi.

Match prediction for India-South Africa encounter: There's not much separating both sides. Expect big runs with small boundaries -- on a pitch known to be slow and flat -- if the weather doesn't play a big role. SA's practice session was abandoned on Tuesday (January 18) due to rain interruption. Thus, the weather can make its presence felt.

Given how much India enjoy playing this format and are well in sync with it, expect the visitors to go 1-0 up. Nonetheless, it will be a close contest.

After the riveting three Tests, India and South Africa will square off with each other in the three-match ODI series opener at Boland Park, Paarl on Wednesday (January 19).

In 2021, India played two bilateral ODI series, versus England and Sri Lanka respectively. India ended the year winning four games and losing two. Since then, a lot has changed in Indian cricket. IND vs SA, 1st ODI prediction: Who will win series opener between KL Rahul-led India and South Africa?

India and South Africa will square off with each other in the second and penultimate ODI on Friday (January 21). After losing the three-match ODI series opener convincingly, KL Rahul-led India will feel the pressure as they have only a day to regroup and keep the series alive.

Talking about the first ODI, Temba Bavuma-led Proteas won the toss and opted to bat first. Despite the hosts being reduced to 68-3, Bavuma's 110 and Rassie van der Dussen's 129 not out propelled SA to a daunting 296-4 in 50 overs. Bavuma-Rassie's 204-run fourth-wicket stand took the game away from the visitors despite being on the back foot at the start.

In the run-chase, Rahul & Co. rode on an impressive 98-run second-wicket stand between Virat Kohli (51) and Shikhar Dhawan (79). However, the duo's dismissals brought the home side back into the contest as the middle and lower order failed to put up a fight from thereon. Shardul Thakur's 50 not out ensured India played their full quota of overs, to end at 265-8.

For the second and penultimate ODI, India will ring in a few changes in the line-up. Suryakumar Yadav or Ruturaj Gaikwad might get a look-in whereas Deepak Chahar can be considered to bolster the pace department.

INDvsSA: When and where to watch India vs South Africa 2nd ODI match - IST time and streaming details

Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Tuesday confirmed that seam bowler Kagiso Rabada has been released from the team for the upcoming series against India.

The decision has been taken due to high workloads over a sustained period of time and the need for him to recover prior to the outbound Test series against New Zealand next month.

"No replacement will be brought in for him as there is an extended squad in place in the Bio-Secure Environment (BSE), but George Linde has been retained from the Test team as an extra spin-bowling option for the series," stated an official Cricket South Africa (CSA) release.

Earlier on Tuesday, South Africa limited-overs skipper Temba Bavuma said that his side would look to take the momentum from the Test series onto the upcoming ODI series against India.

India and South Africa will lock horns in a three-match ODI series, with the first match set to be played on Wednesday in Paarl. Earlier, the Proteas had defeated India 2-1 in the Test series.

"Yeah, momentum is a real thing, you would have seen after the first Test, how we managed to get some momentum in the Johannesburg Test and how we carried through. Momentum is a real thing, obviously, it is a different format and there is a different kind of pressure. Confidence is well within the team and we will be leading onto that to inspire the new guys," said Bavuma during a virtual press conference.

"I would like to have as many options as possible considering the balance of the team. I am not aware of any physical or mental issues with Quinton de Kock. He had his commitments with his family, he is here with the team now and he is training with the team. As far as I know, Quinton is fit and fine," he added.

Talking about Quinton de Kock, Bavuma said: "It is good to see him again. We obviously missed him in the Test team but he has made his decision to retire from the longest format. We respect his decision, having him back has been good. Quinton will have a point to prove and I am sure he is also as excited as we are to see him in the team."

South Africa release pacer Kagiso Rabada from ODI squad ahead of India series

From Rahul to Hardik: 6 players who can be picked by new teams and not enter IPL 2022 auction pool

Day 3 of the second and penultimate Test between India and South Africa, at The Wanderers Johannesburg, ended on a cliff hanger as Proteas require 122 more runs whereas KL Rahul-led India are 8 wickets away from win.

The third day's play started with Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane in the middle, resuming India's second essay from 85-2 (with the overall lead standing at 58 runs). The out-of-form duo looked in positive frame of mind and accumulated runs at will as the lead went past the three-figure mark with ease. However, both fell after reaching their respective half-centuries as the onus fell on Hanuma Vihari and Rishabh Pant.

Pant got involved in a heated exchange with Rassie van der Dussen but didn't trouble the scorers as he fell for 0. Courtesy a cameo from Shardul Thakur (28) and Vihari's 40 not out, India fell for 266 as they setup a competitive 240-run target for the Dean Elgar-led hosts.

In reply, Elgar and Aiden Markram started off on a positive note before Markram was trapped lbw off Thakur. Elgar stitched another vital stand with No. 3 batter Keegan Petersen before Ashwin removed the latter against the run of play. Rahul attacked by employing a leg-slip and even called back Jasprit Bumrah (who had an altercation with Marco Jansen early in the day), but the speedster conceded runs at will despite troubling Elgar with his pace and bounce. Mohammad Shami also tested the SA captain but none could remove him as the left-hander held one end firmly. He was given company by van der Dussen before stumps on Day 3.

Hence, the result is surely going to come out on the penultimate day as both sides have a solid chance to win. SA have a slight edge as they have started their run-chase very well, however, India need 8 good deliveries to win and clinch their maiden Test series on South African soil.

India tour of SA: Quinton de Kock, Rabada, pacer Anrich Nortje named in Proteas Test squad

The existing eight franchises of the Indian Premier League (IPL) recently revealed the names of the players they have retained ahead of the mega auction for the 2022 season and beyond. While the franchises made some smart retentions, some of the picks surprised many as a number of top players were released by their respective franchises.

The likes of Rashid Khan, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer and Hardik Pandya among others were released by their respective teams as the countdown for the mega auction begins. The two new IPL teams - Lucknow and Ahmedabad now have a chance to pick a maximum of three players each from the pool of non-retained players ahead of the mega auction.

The mega auction ahead of IPL 2022 is all set to be one of the busiest ones as ten teams will be looking to build their respective squads almost from scratch with the remaining amount in their auction purse. While there will be plenty of Indian names in the fray, a number of overseas superstars will also feature in the mega auction this time around.

Here we take a look at the top five overseas stars who have been released by their respective IPL franchises and are set to head into the auction pool or get picked by one of the two new teams.

1) David Warner

The first name on the list is Australian star batter David Warner. An IPL great and one of the most consistent performers in the history of the league, Warner has been let go of by Sunrisers Hyderabad after a disappointing campaign in the 2021 season. Warner has been one of the best batters in the league over the years and his numbers prove his class. Warner is the highest run-getter among overseas batters and the fifth-highest overall with 5449 runs to his name in 150 matches at an average of over 41 and a strike rate close to 140.

2) Rashid Khan

Another Sunrisers Hyderabad star who features in the list. Many had expected SRH to retain Rashid, however, the spinner's desire to reportedly be the first-choice retention saw the franchise releasing him ahead of the mega auction. Rashid has been one of the most successful bowlers in the IPL ever since making his debut in 2017. He spent four years with SRH, playing 76 matches and picking up 93 wickets at an impressive economy rate of 6.33. He is reportedly in talks with the Lucknow franchise ahead of the mega auction.

3) Ben Stokes

England all-rounder Ben Stokes had become the most expensive overseas player at the time when he was picked up by Rising Pune Supergiant for a whopping Rs 14.5 crore (INR 145 million) in 2017. Stokes' stature has since grown in leaps and bounds and he has established his credentials as one of the best all-rounders in the world at present. Stokes has 920 runs and 28 wickets under his belt in 48 IPL matches. He was released by Rajasthan Royals this year but is expected to fetch a big amount at the mega auction.

4) Faf du Plessis

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had to let go of one of their most consistent batters over the last couple of years due to the 4-player cap on retentions. CSK decided to keep all-rounder Moeen Ali over Faf due to his all-round abilities but will be trying their best to get the Proteas batter back in the mega auction. Du Plessis played a key role in CSK's IPL triumph in the 2021 season with 633 runs from 16 matches as he finished 2nd on the list of highest run-getters of the season behind only his opening partner Ruturaj Gaikwad, who notched up 635 runs and was retained by the franchise for Rs 6 crore (INR 60 million).

5) Kagiso Rabada

One of the best fast bowlers in the world and a force to reckon with in IPL over the years, it came as a surprise to many when Delhi Capitals decided to release Kagiso Rabada and keep Anrich Nortje. Rabada has been a prolific wicket-taker in the IPL with 76 wickets in just 50 IPL matches. He was the leading wicket-taker of the tournament in IPL 2020 with 30 scalps in 17 matches.

1) David Warner The first name on the list is Australian star batter David Warner. 3) Ben Stokes England all-rounder Ben Stokes had become the most expensive overseas player at the time when he was picked up by Rising Pune Supergiant for a whopping Rs 14.5 crore (INR 145 million) in 2017. 4) Faf du Plessis Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had to let go of one of their most consistent batters over the last couple of years due to the 4-player cap on retentions. Rabada has been a prolific wicket-taker in the IPL with 76 wickets in just 50 IPL matches. He was the leading wicket-taker of the tournament in IPL 2020 with 30 scalps in 17 matches.
